And if you do read such reviews, you'll see that the hotels are often well-maintained and are in a way, time capsules. The Riverview Inn is like that. It's like a well-maintained 1990s-era Hilton, kept in a little capsule for you to experience. I stayed a night here as a good overnight stop between two destinations and I chose the Riverview Inn for its price and its downtown location. It was fine, but that's about it. Parking is free, which is nice, and the lobby is a little updated. Then you exit the elevator into the hallway of your designated floor, and everything changes. Green floral carpet, very low ceilings, dim fluorescent lighting -- ah, I remember this, and, frankly, it's a little bit eerie. But little things let you know that, even though the rooms are holding fast on that 1990s design, there is some effort to modernize. For example, proximity RFID room keys. If this really was a 1990s hotel, you'd have those old hole-punch room keys. Remember those? Yeah. Awesome. Also, a flat-screen TV. Cool. And maybe there's something to be said for making those changes, rather than putting a new comforter on the bed that has an updated, more understated floral design. Everything works. Essentials are met. Maslow is satisfied. Breakfast is also fine. Ever stayed at a Holiday Inn Express? It's a lesser version of that. Pre-made, pre-formed pastries and eggs. It's fine. You won't go back for seconds unless you hate yourself, but it's basic breakfast at its minimally acceptable range. Eat and hit the road, it says. Considering the above (and managing expectations), I'd stay here again. I was able to walk to two different local breweries (a third closed before I could make it there on a Tuesday night) and stumble home safe and sound. Sleep, check-out, and get out, with a good location. Works for me!

Hubs actually was exploring our route and discovered this place so we bookmarked it in case we had time. Both times we visited, we were kind of strapped for time so we have yet to go on the tour. They do allow for tastings of their many boozes but they limit it to 6 or 8, which is very smart. I think we did not have that many our recent trip. Since we purchased 6 bottles our first trip (they give a discount for 6+ bottles), we were already familiar and wanted to try some of their new items. Both times we visited, we brought in our dog and she received a lot of attention. They have dog toys so of course I had to buy her one each time. Now those are really expensive! The prices vary for their bottles, maybe averaging about $55. Some are cheaper and many are more expensive than that. They also sell merchandise in the same room you do the tastings. We never have time but they do free tours and I wanna say they last about 45 minutes. It is in the middle of nowhere so it's not like you can make a day out of it any stay in town, while filling up an entire itinerary for a day. We really enjoy their bourbon and keep stock of the Blueberry and Mint Julep flavored bourbons. Everyone is always hospitable when we visit and that motivated us more to support them!

Visit Hopkinsville and come to this place first!…read more One of the best visitor centers I ever went to in my travels. This is the place to go to see the amazing things Hopkinsville has to offer. Amy Rodgers was very professional, gracious, and helpful in giving me a brief tour of Hopkinsville. The visitor center was about to close in 13 minutes, yet she encouraged me to take my time. I loved how everything was displayed and how you could rent a bicycle from there to tour the surrounding area. I learned so much about Hopkinsville in my brief visit there. I saw that they had a free African American tour you could dial in from your cellphone, the "Dark Side" of Hopkinsville, and so much more. Finding the address was a little difficult on my navigator. Postcards are not free like most postcards in visitor centers. They do have free items like chapstick, pens, a cloth bag, a cd of "the little green me" or aliens in the area, and notepads. I bought some stickers and postcards. My favorite purchase was a metal five pointed rustic star. Despite the time constraints, I was very happy and satisfied with my visit there.

I absolutely love that the L&N Train Station has reopened. ( We had photos taken here fifteen years…read moreago! ) Although I missed the official Grand Opening, I made sure to make a trip and bring the whole family. I have been here several times and with my son, but have never been inside the station. We were greeted as we walked up (the ramp). So welcoming! Large, clean spaces inside the newly renovated / updated interior with few relics of what once was. The two bathrooms are huge plus the new little kitchen is great for the space as it is available for rent (via Clarksville Parks & Recreation). Simple and comfortable (fully air-conditioned) for any event. We walked through looking at each display and reading the banners about the history of the L&N train and its significance. So great to have this historical piece still available for the public. They are only open two days (Tuesday and Thursday) from 10AM to 3PM. My son enjoyed exploring the train car. They have a step stool, if needed. Luckily, he is light enough to be lifted up onto the train. We did not stay long as it is very hot today. Going back into the station was perfect for a bathroom break and to cool off before going to get lunch downtown! Check out my pix... also, the little playground nearby has been renovated recently. Covered picnic table for when it's a tad cooler (for us) to enjoy while littles can play. Free parking and entrance. Go support a piece of our local history!
