Hertz personnel at the time of my rental and drop off were fine. The problem is they tacked on a toll charge from plate pass to my credit card; to which I didn't owe as I told them both times I drove through the booth, I paid cash. I even asked to view the video. No response because there isn't one. Again, I paid cash. The amount doesn't warrant my time to fight which is probably what they count on. I'm certain this happens to others which adds up $ for them. this is the ABSOLUTE worst car rental place at the Lexington airport! they gave me a car with a tire that blew out while on the highway. it's a good thing no one was hurt or they'd have a lawsuit on their hands!! then they had the audacity to charge me to fix the tire (I used my own AAA membership!!) and when I swapped my car for a different one they changed my return time and charged me for a full extra day! I was staying with a friend in Lexington, and booked a car through Travelocity the night before I was leaving to Louisville. Little did I know, those actions would haunt me for the rest of the next day. I reserved the "Economy Special", as it was the cheapest car available. Then I showed up to Hertz the next day, and was "greeted" by the indifference of two gentlemen behind the counter that seemed to want to be doing anything else than work at Hertz. I approached the counter and told them I had a reservation. Of of them looked at a printed-out list (that I found out later was printed at 3pm the previous day, before I made my reservation) and they said I wasn't on the list. Well, now I just had flashbacks to being rejected from club after club in my youth. But never had I expected this at Hertz! Anyway, they were gracious enough to look on the computer to see if I was lying about my reservation, and eventually found it. The "Economy Special", we joked. What could it be? Well, all they had was a Tesla. Now, all joking aside, I didn't really want a Tesla. I wanted something cheap and fueled by gas, as I don't think Kentucky has really grasped onto the whole "electrical revolution" quite yet, and finding an EV charger would be kind of difficult for my limited time in Louisville. But whatever. I said that was fine. I would make it work. I was being reasonable. We made a couple more jokes about the "Economy Special". But then, the last straw snapped. They told me I couldn't return the Tesla in Louisville, that it had to come back to Lexington. Well- I told them- my reservation, which seems to have been completely discarded at this point, was for an Economu Special car to be picked up in Lexington and dropped off in Louisville. Hopefully you've been following that much so far. "Nah" [I'm paraphrasing], he said. "It's gotta be brought back here." "Well I can't do that. I'm dropping off in Louisville." "We can't give you that car, then." "I don't care about that car. Give me something else, that'll be fine." "We don't have anything else." At this point, I'm taken aback. I was at a loss for words. I had schlepped my luggage, my friend who was dropping me off and my reservation paperwork to this Hertz location, to receive my car, and they- not only didn't have a car for me, which seems weird for a rental car location- but couldn't care less that I had purchased a service from them which they had no intention of fulfilling their end of the transaction. AND- didn't even offer to, maybe call an a sister location and see if they could set me up with something else? Anyway, needless to say, I left there and made a reservation with a different company. This location needs to be shut down. First you give me the wrong class of car and I spent a day going back & forth to get the right class of vehicle that I prepaid for. I extended rental due to winter storm and they took my weekly reservation out and charged me per day because I returned the car today instead of holding on a day because storm is set to return. Did you tell me I should have returned after office hours to avoid being charged double? Like does anyone use common sense. I guess you wanted me to take the risk of damaging the car. Bad! They do not care how long you wait! They charge for fuel you never used and definitely don't accidentally tap Sirius satellite radio! You will be made pay 4.99 per day even if it was active for 5 minutes!!! Nowhere to return cars and if it gets towed YOU have to pay the tow bill even though there's nowhere to return vehicle!!! I have been renting here for over a year. Bree, the manager and Ron, the assistant manager are wonderful people! They do everything in their power to help accommodate everyone's needs. We unfortunately had one of our cars totaled in late December. Thankfully, our car insurance payed for a rental car for us for a few weeks. Of course, these things never happen on schedule, and we ended up using the car for a full 31 days. Here's where things went wrong at Hertz. Not only did they charge us for insurance on the car after my wife had told them not to (not to mention that State Farm was paying for 2 weeks of the rental), but they continued to charge us for it during the two weeks we were paying for it out of pocket. So essentially, the amount we were expecting to pay was literally TRIPLED. We complained to Hertz, trying to explain and correct the situation and, well, they told us tough. Granted, this is partially our fault for not looking over the receipt in detail at the time of the transaction, but in all honesty Hertz is just lucky they didn't make us overdraft. Worst rental experience I have ever had. I am a five star gold member and will never rent from them again. Waited an hour and half for ride. I reserved a Model 3 a month prior to reservation and they didn't have one. Gave me a Malibu that look and felt like it was in an accident. Went back next day and got a very poor condition Model 3. Upon returning there system was down and couldn't get a receipt. Contacted Hertz about experience but no replay. I am renting from Enterprise from now on. read more

I am extremely disappointed with hertz. I booked a car at the new circle road location and they called 24 hours before pick up to say they had no cars and would be closed on Saturday "due to weather." Even though the weather was fine by then. Instead of helping me reschedule they told me to call the hertz 1-800 line. I was able to switch my reservation to blue grass airport hertz and on the phone they said they would honor my original week long price. When I get to the airport they tried to charge me $300 more for the week and said that they wouldn't honor the original price. I spent an hour on the phone with the 1-800 number again and even let the customer service rep speak to the hertz person on the phone and they still wouldn't honor the price because they had "no way of changing the price from their end." I ended up just ubering home. This was terrible service and extremely frustrating. If new circle road location told me they would have "zero cars" available then why couldn't they have helped me reschedule my reservation? Also how unprofessional is it to cancel someone's reservation without even offering help. This place is unreliable and I would never recommend them. read more

Hertz says they are focused on the customer experience, and will make it unforgettable. In my many experiences I have either gotten a decent car or a terrible unsafe car. So it's really hit or miss. That being said, their customer service skills and "solutions" are appalling. Unfortunately, they are the cheapest and closest option for me and my family, and so I take that gamble whenever I book a rental. The first major problem I've had was a rental that had COMPLETELY BALD TIRES. My son was only 1 year old at the time and when I voiced my concern for his safety, I was told that I could pay for an upgrade and I'd have to drive an hour out of my way to do so. So after hours on the phone with several locations and the hotline, we ended up trading for the same model, which was fine, that had tread on the tires. Now I am currently in another rental, the tread is ok, not great, but the interior is stained, not been vacuumed, all four hubcaps and the plates are twisted and bent out of shape and there's significant scratches on the body which indicates that this vehicle may have been involved in a collision. Also the tires were low on air, hopefully there's not a leak. When I voiced my concern at the pickup location again, I was told that I could pay an extra $200 or so to upgrade. The issue is NOT the size or model of the car, my problem is with the safety of it. My last experience with the bald tires, I was hydroplaning all over, but was unable to exchange until after a 14 hour drive! This was due to every single Hertz in our area being out of other cars in that class and unwilling to sacrifice their profits for our safety. So a 10 hour drive took 14 hours because I was terrified to drive the speed limit and was instead crawling down the highway. I wish I had the money then to afford a different class, but something tells me that Hertz simply doesn't care about the conditions of their vehicles, the safety of their passengers, or the experience of their customers. I was actually told today that the only location in my city that had another vehicle in the same class was the airport, which denied helping us because they don't do trades unless we went to them initially. So I assume they don't want a sub par vehicle returned to their location, because sadly everyone knows what you can expect from the Hertz on E New Circle Rd in Lexington, KY...hit or miss vehicles, and guaranteed to get terrible service and an unapologetic staff. Although other locations and the hotline were also unhelpful and unwaivering. I am beyond disappointed in Hertz as a company that I once was more than happy doing business with. All I expect from Hertz is Quality, mostly in regards to safety, and service. If your customer is nervous to leave your lot, or you send them off that lot in an unsafe vehicle, something is seriously wrong. read more

Still up in the air on whether I would rent from this location again. They do not tell you that they have a STRICT 30-minute policy from your reserve date. If you are late, guess what? You don't get your car. Fortunately, they showed me grace and still allowed me to get my car. Secondly, when you rent off of Hertz.com and ask for Neverlost...there is NO GUARANTEE that you will get GPS. Only the airport offers this luxury. Thank God, I had GPS on my phone to guide us in our travels. Thirdly, I rented a Toyota Prius and I had NO idea how to drive it. They graciously showed me how to drive it and after a few days, I was a master. Fourthly, this Hertz has parking spaces in the back so this avoids having to park somewhere else to avoid airport parking fees. So that was a big plus. Overall, I give the experience a 3.5 out of 5. The verdict is still out on whether I would rent from them again. read more

A car rental service that "doesn't have any cars available" multiple days a week.

I'll add my nightmare to the rest of the Hertz reviews. I rented a cargo van for what should have been a 5.5 hour drive to move my daughter to Detroit. Two hours in a message appeared to replace brake fluid immediately. I stopped at a Jiffy Lube and was told that the brakes were extremely worn, the emergency brake was not attached to anything and the if brake fluid was put in it there was a leak and it would just leak back out. He also said the van should never have been on the road and I was lucky the brakes didn't go out completely because they were very close. I called Hertz roadside service. They answered after 1 hour but I was never able to speak to a person. Three hours later, a human answered. Three hours after that I was towed for 2.5 hours to an airport with another Hertz van available. The Hertz mechanic at the airport also said the van should have never been on the road. I transferred all the furniture to the new van. It was now 11:00pm. I told them I could not move into an apartment building at 11:30 and would return it first thing in the morning. In the morning, I was charged for 2 days. I have called Hertz customer service and spoken to the rental place where I originally picked up the faulty van. All they say is "so sorry but there is nothing they can do." I guess I should feel lucky that I'm alive but not about the $271.00 bill and $58 in gas. I will never ever use Hertz again and will not recommend anyone else to use them. read more

Pascal runs an tight group of great workers at this location! Cars are always clean and prices are always way better than the airport location. I've never had a bad experience. Pascal, tony and Jared are always a pleasure to work with. I've seen them interact with both happy and angry customers and they always handle each situation with class. Some people you can't please no matter how good the service is but they always do an awesome job and there is a reason they are the only people I will rent from in Lexington! read more

I rented from hertz once before with no problems. I wrecked my car and they were a preferred rental agency for my ins. so I used them. I understand that I needed to put gas back in my car before I returned it.. however when I returned it I did not have a penny to my name. and If I had known they would charge $9.99/ per gallon I would have kept the rental a day or two more and filled it back up. Yes they gave me the chance to fill it up my response was I can't afford it. So He said ok we can take care of it. I had No clue it would be $9.99. Now Not only did they charge that but they charge me $50 for a cleaning fee stating there were crumbs in the seat and an apple core that they found that needed thrown away. Ok I did not check my sons work to see if he cleaned it out sufficiently. Sio the apple core yea that's my bad. But $50 ... really. That is the most absurd way of doing business I have ever heard and Pascal!!! He was short and tried to get me off the phone multiple times before I was even done talking. I will NEVER use Hertz again!!! Enterprise doesn't charge anything to clean their cars when you bring them back. Not to mention it wasn't clean when I got it, but I didn't want to be difficult! This is the worst company out there!!! We rented through you on line, went to pick up the vehicle and was told our credit score was not high enough. But you already had our $187!!! And we didn't even get to touch the keys!!! You said you would refund the money in 7-10 business days. Well gee thanks. Because you LIED. You refunded $87 and charged me a $100 cancellation fee. So now my goal is to make sure that you lose lots of money, because that $100 was LOTS of money to this family. And to make sure you loose LOTS of money, I'm going to tell everyone how you screwed us and we almost weren't able to make it to the Women's March on D.C. in DC! That's millions of women. And yes we called customer service and they said too bad. That is the fee for canceling a reservation. So how many sites can I put this out on??? I would NEVER rent from this agency for ANY reason again. My son had an insurance rental for 30 days. When we returned the car, I waited while the (1) attendant took 2 phone calls ahead of me while I was standing in front of his counter. Upon returning he went to inspect the car and came back telling me he would have to charge me a $50 "detailing fee" because they didn't have a strong enough vacuum cleaner to get the dirt out of the floorboards. WHAT? A car rental place that can't vacuum their rentals? I asked what dirt he was speaking of he told me and he told me it was some straw in the floor. My son and I went out and picked it up by hand ourselves. When he asked his manager Pascal to go look at the car again after my refusal to pay $50 for detailing the manager came back and said he'd knock it down to $25 because there was "some hair" in the car from a dog. My son is a college student who doesn't even have a dog! I pointed out that I brought the car back with a FULL tank of gas, not the half tank that I needed to and he said, "that was your choice, not mine." When I asked for his supervisor's card so I could speak to him, Pascal tried to hand me his own business card instead. I had to ask again for a way to contact his supervisor. These people are running a racket - charging people to "detail" cars that I am sure never leave their own garage. Do yourself a favor - go elsewhere before you get scammed. read more
