Beware - if you're from the USA you'll get an extra charge for damage to a car you were not responsible for. I rented a car from Heathrow and dropped off to St Pancras. No one inspected car on pick up and there was no one to inspect car with me on drop off. The car had not been damaged during my use: I was then sent photos and charged for damage I can't even see in the picture. Some on a back door trim I didn't even use. I've had three people inspect pictures and they are also confused. This has happened to me twice renting a car in the UK. It's disgusting and I'm extremely upset as I wasn't here on happy times but for a funeral. This just added salt to the wound. read more

My experience with this rental was one of the best I have ever had. It was quick to pick up the car at Heathrow and drop it off at St Pancras in London to catch a train to Paris. There is a 50 pound drop fee for not returning it to the airport, but the given the convenience and not having to pay for any additional travel - it was well worth it. Next time I will order a bigger car. We got a standard and in the UK that represents a smaller car than it does in the States. Overall this rental added value to our vacation and allowed us to explore the country on our schedule. read more

Nothing but a bunch of scammers and crooks. Rented a car that was (1) provided to me dirty with an apology note and then (2) managed to "find" a scratch on rear rim of the wheel and charge me $150; note that all rims on the car were severely scratched, made more impactful since the rims were black rather than silver. How anyone can inspect a dirty car and then drum up additional charges is a shocker. Totally unprofessional and scam artists. Go elsewhere if you have any sense and act on the low score for this rental agency. read more

HERTZ rental is usually great. BUT IN LONDON youre charged over 100. pounds congestion fee each day you drive the car in london. problem is.. if HERTZ "forgets" to tell you - hundreds of pounds are charged unexpectedly to your credit card. like mine. i tried calling & nobody can help you. we googled it & LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME RIP OFF HAPPEN. apparently every car rental place has this problem of "forgetting" to tell you about the incredibly expensive fees London is going to charge you to drive thier cars. im sure, this would kill their business. HERTZ has been totally unhelpful, just shrugs their shoulders & says "yep, London charges you we cant do anything for you" well... YOU COULD HAVE TOLD ME! This place would win the award for "place most in need of a facelift" as it's literally falling apart inside and if it weren't for the fact of someone sitting behind the desk you'd think it was closed down. BUT, I had to use them 5 times last year and each time I was very impressed, for the following reasons: 1. Easy pick-ups (normally all done within 5 mins), they just hand you the key and a stamped parking ticket and you collect from the basement hotel carpark. 2. I got a free/reduced upgrade at least 3 times, once from an Economy car to an Audi TT convertible!! (well, it was the day of the London tube strikes to be fair, so they'd ran out and I'd pre-booked) 3. Their one week rentals (or anything more than 3/4 days) are really good value. You can get an Economy car for a week with unlimited mileage from only £140ish. 4. You can collect Nectar points AND cashback (with cashbackkings http://www.cashbackkings.com/?ruid=3055196-keep ) with Hertz, saving even more money! 5. Drop-offs were easy too, just park the car outside the office and hand the key in (if the office is closed you hand it in at the Hotel reception) The only negatives were that the office opening hours aren't great, and you often need this kind of service outside of office hours. Actually Pancras Rd location. Car not ready on tome, no gas. Attendant not helpful and difficult. Not customer oriented. Try somewhere else.

Don´t go. Staff was highly incompetent, very bad English. I had a pre-paid voucher from abroad. It took the staff almost two hours to provide a car. We agreed that I´d also prepay the petrol and return the car with an empty petrol tank. At the end it turned out that they made me sign a new contract and insurance. So I was charged additionally to my pre-paid voucher. Also they did not record that I intended to prepay the petrol so that the company made me pay the whole petrol tank (over 140GBP!!!). Took me 4 months to get back the money for the additional contract. Nevertheless I had to pay the 140 GBP for the petrol. Ridiculous! Never experienced such incompetence before. read more

This is my preferred option if I want to hire a car for the weekend. Firstly, the staff are always friendly and efficient. Secondly, you are able to rent a car from this branch and return it on a Sunday (unlike many). My only gripe is that whenever I rent a car I am never given what I have asked for (a Focus like equivalent). So far, I have driven away in a multitude of saloons, MPVs and SUVs which whilst fine isn't what I have asked for and aren't really suited to London's streets. A small point - otherwise this branch does exactly what it should. read more

No information about this in my rental agreement made via orbitz. "They should have told you" was the best response the attendant could muster. No assistance trying to find another vehicle. DO NOT USE! Booked a small economy car, got stuck with an SUV type thing. I wanted a small vehicle as was doing lots of miles and wanted to save on fuel. They insisted this was an upgrade but I didn't want it and they didn't have anything smaller for me. I was then upsold a service that you can return the tank empty and patrol charge 5p less than average (not true, saw petrol at 10p less per litre at most stations). Nail in coffin: I was charged two "administration fees" for the Dartford Crossong at 42£ each, this was simply to give the company my name and address so they can contact me to collect the fine which should have been about £37.50 if paid within 14 days (so if Hertz were a decent company they could pay this fine for you and still make a few quid for the administration). I understand companies are in business to make money but they are completely heartless. Use Avis on Eversholt street for a better service and very similar price and no headaches. Hertz not worth saving a few extra pounds as they'll find was to continually extract money from you. read more

I rented a car from the Southampton Row Branch of Hertz over the summer, and the person at the counter asked me if I would like to pay the London Congestion Charge Fee. I of course said yes -- there is really no choice -- and went on my way. A month later, I got a letter from Hertz saying that I had been charged GBP120 for violating the congestion charge. When I complained about this to Hertz, they ended up refunding me the small congestion charge fee AND NOT THE FINE! When I complained about this, I got an infuriating email thanking me for my inquiry and confirming that they have charged my credit card for the amount of the fine. It seems that they are almost willfully refusing to address the problem. I can't recommend that anyone rent anything from Hertz. read more

I rented a car from Hertz. I picked it up at night in a pouring rain so I did not inspect the vehicle. When I returned it they examined it for several minutes in great detail. They found a tiny chip in the lower part of the windshield. I do not remember anything hitting the windshield. They said I owed 60 pounds for repair. I argued my case but agreed to pay. When I looked at the bill there was an additional 35 pound charge for damage administration. This is outrageous. read more
