They never honor any of their program benefits, they refuse to credit rewards points to your account, regardless of whether it's a Hertz or another airline or Hotel rewards account. Their prices are asinine and non-competitive so basically, they treat their customers like sh*t and won't lift a finger to do right by a single one of them -- no matter how large or small the problem. Ms. Donahue at the Vestal Hertz location was amazing. My husband left enterprise after a horrible experience and she was able to get him into a vehicle quickly and efficiently. This place is absolutely horrible!! I would NEVER use this location again . Jorge ( George ) is the most unprofessional, rude person I have come across. He has zero customer service skills !! I rented a car for a week while visiting my parents. I was not able return the vehicle @ 5pm. I called and spoke to Jorge to let him know I would be dropping it off that morning. I was aware there would be an additional fee . When he told me the fee would be $303 for an additional 2 hours i thought he was joking !! He told me that was the correct price. I told him that is called gouging ....his reply " I don't care ". When I arrived he charged me $166 for the two hours . I called corporate....they said I should have been charged $69. Awful experience with Hertz -Vestal !!!!!!!!! Go to ENTERPRISE instead!!!! The Hertz branch at 2520 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal, NY 13760 has unfriendly and very rude customer service, particularly their managers. Prices at pickup are often double what is shown in your confirmed online reservation through the Hertz app. They removes your discount code without asking or informing you, and add insurance or other extras you did not select -- again without your consent. In the end, you don't get the rental you booked; you get what they decides to give you, mostly unclean and smelly... I have been a loyal Hertz customer for many years, traveling frequently as a state employee and renting from them regularly. However, after all this experience, I will no longer be using Hertz. For my May 24-28 trip, I needed a minivan, but Hertz was already booked, so I went with Enterprise for the first time. Looking back, I regret not choosing ENTERPRISE sooner -- their customer service was far more friendly and their staff genuinely caring. The contrast could not have been clearer. Do not use Hertz in Vestal -- go to ENTERPRISE instead, where you are truly appreciated and cared for. read more

Charged me for damage I did not cause. Very, very upsetting to come home from a vacation and get an email claiming I did damage. VERY fortunately I did take pictures of the car when I picked it up (there were ALOT of scratches and other damage). I usually find the best rates through either my Costco or AARP membership with Enterprise. Because Binghamton has limited offerings I was surprised that the Vestal location offered the best (though still incredibly high) rate for a economy sized vehicle for 15 days (around $1200). Upon pickup I was given keys and that was that. My friend and I went to the car and saw a lot of prior damage. We went back in and told "Patrick" that I wasn't taking a car with so much damage. He walked out with us and walked around the vehicle and pointed to all of it and said it was documented (but did not show us any documentation). I then went and took a picture of everything (thank goodness). Before returning car I hosed it off (country roads are dusty). Bought gas, filled tank. Took notice of returning mileage so I could do a per/mile cost for this rental. Gave them keys. Flew home. Get email shortly after with picture of a bent license plate on a very dusty rear end of car, a photo of an odometer reading that was over 100 miles over my return mileage, and a photo of the largest scratch, which I had photographed before taking car off lot. I sent them photos and time stamps. I got an email saying they were going to close it out. I should be relieved, right? No, no, no. I am not. I don't accuse people of malfeasance without more proof but I do accuse people of incompetence and shoddy documentation. This was SO upsetting. Who wants to have to take on a huge corporation?? Absolutely the worst! If I could give this branch a zero I would! I had gone in to pick up the keys for my husband's rental, which I have done before. My husband was calling on the phone at the same time I was there. The incredibly rude woman working there, I didn't get her name, picked up the phone and hung up. So I called my husband back on my cell. He is a president circle member. He has been renting from this branch for over 10 years. The incredibly rude woman kept speaking over my husband, who was on speaker, she wouldn't listen to anything he said. When I spoke she spoke over me as well. She stated the reservation was for 4pm and he didn't come for the car. ( I arrived at 4:30). I explained we only have one car and I work for the school system and all buses were an hour late so there wasn't time to get him prior to the office closing at 5pm, so that's why I was there; she stated "not my problem". I offered to drive home and get my husband so he could get the rental, which he needs to go back to the airport to go back to work in FL; however, we would not be back until after 5pm and could she wait? She said no. I would like to add that the other person there, George, was also incredibly rude. At some point, a woman threatened to call regional manager. I told to go ahead call your regional manager. I would love to tell them how I was being treated, how she had spoken over my husband and me, and how she yelling at me. She stated that she would make sure my husband never rented from them again. She then said she wasn't calling the regional manager but if I didn't leave she would be calling the police. i went to pick up my car at the Vestal site that I booked online and they said they had to give me a 16 passenger van instead. i asked them repeatedly if they had anything else and he said no. when I pressed the issue he said he would give me a ford bronco SUV if I paid more. it cost me $400 for 2 days and when I asked if I can just book it online to try to get a cheaper price... he said its too late and swiped my credit card. i had an important meeting I had to get to... so i took the car. i saw the horrible reviews and rented from them anyway. never again. rude, dishonest and terrible customer experience. read more

Okay, second time renting a large SUV here, first time I arrived they said they called and spoke with someone and told us that we would have to rent a MINIVAN ! So, we had to cancel and go else where. Struggling to find same day long-term rental. So, now my second time renting, I received email confirming my large SUV last week. Today I just thought better call before I drive all the way down there.....They again said they called, my husband has a Heating and cooling business, we can NEVER not answer our calls and there was no voice message as they had stated. They were unable to process the refund, I hade to wait on hold to over 10 mins with the 800# and it will tale 7 - 10 to get the refund! In retrospect, I wish I had reviewed Yelp reviews before renting. I've rented here before and always been pleased but there has been a decline in the cleanliness of the vehicles. I rented a full size car, Sonata, with 6600 miles on it so it was new. Securing and picking up the vehicle, including wait time, was flawless. The vehicle itself, well: 1) the gas was only 3/4 full. Because my husband drove it back home to Pa he didn't realize until it was en route. 2) there was a pair of WORN, DIRTY SOCKS under the drivers seat. They were clearly visible when opening the rear door. Clearly no one did. (did I mention there were dirty white socks?) 3) I could barely see through rear view mirror as it was so filthy, spotted etc. Net: vehicle not cleaned or washed or gas tank filled between customers. Would give 0 stars if possible. I used to rent with Hertz every week and travel for work, never had any issues. Apparently, there is new management. I am renting today and was told they will allow my service dog "in the car" but will not help rent a vehicle large enough to transport a crate. The crate is the preferred safe method of travel for a service dog. I asked if that was legal (to charge more to accommodate a service dog) and was again told they only have to allow the dog in the vehicle, not provide a vehicle for the dog to travel in (huh?). If I could give negative starts I would. I got a rental October 26 and am supposed to have it for one week. So I turn it back in November 2. I left my car in the corner of the parking lot. Away from other vehicles. And I was not told that I can't park my car there for a week while I have a rental. I received a letter November 1 that Hertz had my personal vehicle towed October 30. They didn't even call me to tell me to move it or anything. The towing company has had my car since Monday and I was not notified until 2 days later. The bill is $815 and when I called hertz in Vestal NY, the manager told me it's not his problem. And for us to deal with it. The tow company said Hertz called them to have my vehicle towed. When I talked to Hertz they said they never called. And the tow company drives around o find cars to tow for money. Which they said is a lie. The manager at Hertz in Vestal NY is a p***y and acted like a little b**ch. he hung up the phone on me when I explained to him that I was not informed about my vehicle being towed. He was acting like he was in charge and corporate can't say or do nothing to him. He was unprofessional at the way he spoke to me and how he handled the situation. I have already told multiple people not to come do business with Hertz. And we will no longer be doing business with them. We will take our business to Enterprise. I rented a car from Vestal, NY it was FILTHY and smelled like smoke. It was a horrible little car I went back into the office to tell them how dirty the car was and how it smelled. I was handed a bunch of wipes. I asked it there was another car available. There was NOT. I had to get home so I cleaned the car myself. No one showed me how the car worked or where anything was or walked me to the car. I figured out which one it was and cleaned it and left. I drove all the way home to Long Island NY - 3.5 HOURS with the windows open. They told me I could return the car to Hempstead. When it took the car there - later that SAME day- it didnt exist. I went to Rockville Center - which was the original return location and the rental part was closed. I spoke to them and they said return the keys to the box so I did and got an UBER home. No one offered any help or assistance. Everyone was sitting chatting. I explained I had a problem with the car and they said talk to them tomorrow. they called next day to tell ME about dirty back seat with pet hair. I said id DONT HAVE A PET I never looked in the back I was alone!!!!! Then today I see a $749. charge!!!! for a one day car rental!! which was flirty and smelled and was a terrible car. Rude, FILTHY and now OVERCHARGING me. I've worked with this location twice now: for a round-trip rental, and for a one-way rental. Both times the staff were very courteous, providing me with pickup and dropoff service so that I could get to the rental location from the nearby university. Most importantly, the employees work at a quick-pace, so you never need to sit around waiting. During my round-trip rental, they were running late and immediately offered to drop off the car with me at the university so that I could leave immediately, instead of needing to return to the rental location first. And when dropping off my one-way rental, they resolved a billing concern immediately (refreshing!) -- no arguing required from my end. Plus, for individuals 20 - 24, Hertz will wave the underage fee if you join the Hertz Gold Family program (free) or use a coupon code they have running on their site. Highly recommend. read more

Had a very good experience at this location. The staff was very friendly and professional, the car was well priced and new. It could've been a bit cleaner but not a huge deal. I'm dropping 1 star because they did sneak a $7.99 road service charge that I don't remember agreeing to until I returned the vehicle. The rental was very fairly priced so I didn't think there was an up charge in there. I'll double check next time. I have used this Hertz for years and have always been treated well and easily able to rent/drop off cars, especially during COVID. However, this Hertz really earned a lifelong customer after this past week. I was given (forced to take) a Tesla at my origin Hertz for my trip to Binghamton. I hated the car and was not made aware that there are a lack of Tesla charging stations in upstate NY. So, I decided to try and exchange the Tesla for a "regular" car to complete my trip. At first, they said they are not permitted to take Teslas because they are not equipped for electric vehicles. Then one of the workers said he was going to make a call to see if they could help in any way. In the end, the Vestal Hertz allowed me to exchange the Tesla for an SUV to finish my trip more comfortably. The Hertz staff was understanding, empathetic, and made me feel like a valued customer. And most importantly, they made the not so typical vehicle exchange happen, which made me feel WAY more comfortable on the road! Thank you!!! read more

First off the guys working in here are very nice and good at customer service. I reserved a compact car for about of town trip, when I got there after signing the contract they told me they didn't have any subcompacts or compacts so they would give me a full size free of charge. Awesome, who doesn't like a free upgrade. The problem with this is I rented the smaller car for better fuel economy, but besides the fact the car was good. Not awesome on fuel, but newer model with nice features inside. The car was dirty inside with cigarette ashes, and smelt very bad. Numerous burns in the seats, stains, and weird gooey junk on dashboard and trim. Returned the car less than a hour late to be charged almost a full day's rent for the 38 minutes. This is a pretty poor policy honestly after you gave me a different car than reserved, and one that was dirty inside. I could understand a $10-$15 charge, but the $30+ for a few minutes is rough. Not many places to rent a car around here, so not too many options. Quick process to rent and return, they have parking for your current vehicle next door which is a bonus. read more

Quite simply the only place I'll rent from in Binghamton. The staff are always polite, cars are always clean, and in the winter, you can usually find a snowbrush already placed in your rental. No weird overcharges, no issues with overnight drop off, and no drama. read more

My friend and I left something in the car we rented when we returned and they claimed they didn't find it and that they do an extensive thorough search through every car once it is returned. That is completely BS because my friend finally got one of the employees to search AGAIN for her wallet and they wound up finding it eventually. However a few days later I called about the item I left and they would not go back to check because they said they checked already. They would not pull up my information to check which car I rented. I'm going to bet one of the employees are enjoying the item I left in the car for their own personal use. Bad customer service and no honesty. read more

Waited for 15 minutes at the repair place to be picked up (Herts is a mile away) and then spent almost an hour waiting at Hertz for a vehicle. Not sure how they didn't know how many cars they needed and have them available. They knew about my reservation for almost 3 weeks. I ended up with a tiny clown car that looked like it hadn't been washed in a year, was missing the seat adjustment lever and had no gas in it (at least the carpets were reasonably clean). Turns out it was the car that they picked 3 of us up at the repair place in. Why did I have to wait if they were going to stick me with that vehicle? I might not have minded the wait if I ended up with a nice car. The was not the experience I expected from Hertz. This is going to continue to annoy me every time I get into this stupid little car for the next two weeks while my vehicle is repaired. Things they should have done differently: 1) Had a real, clean car (equivalent to mine) available for me when I arrived with gas and that wasn't missing parts. That was my expectation 2) Offered to reimburse me if I wanted to have the car they gave me washed (or suggest I stop by to have it washed if I had a few minutes during the week). 3) apologize for my inconvenience and maybe offer to take me to my office and get a decent car over to me later in the day. Not impressed. My SUV is one the shop at Matthews for a new transmission. (I'm assuming people who are having warranty work done get the shit end of the stick). Because I've rented vehicles from hertz for over 10 years and never had a problem. That is until now. The car I was given for one was beat the hell up looks like someone tried to break in to the thing. The rubber door jams are all tore up and the car smells like mildew and what ever else I can't figure it out. When you turn on the heat the smell is even worse. The back window is so gross from some type of build up you can't see out of it when head lights are glaring on it. But I was reassured that they take pictures of all the damages too the car blah blah. Well great I'm so glad I'm with out my brand new SUV to drive around in a damn match box car that smells like swamp ass. What a pain that is with small children! Again not impressed what so ever. I was under the impression they try to put you in a similar vehicle to accommodate you and your as this has all been a large inconvenience. rented a car from here for an extended rental (three weeks +) from this location...was given a downgrade (smaller car) which smelled horribly like smoke...Unable to use the vehicle and had to return and rent from a different company. Staff was also not friendly, first thing I was told was that I was "two hours late" dispute calling a day before to change the pickup time. Front staff were quite nasty over a minor billing dispute (later courteously resolved by body shop), simply refusing to engage with us. The women literally shut me down and walked away. Guess you can afford to treat customers this way when you're billing insurance companies and the customers rarely see the actual bill. But it was truly astonishing. This on top of a car rented to us with less than full gas tank, low battery on electric key (so wouldn't start half the time), and low tire pressure. Car reeked of cigarette smoke + cheap air freshener. I rent cars all over the world - usually go with Enterprise or Alamo - used this Hertz due to body shop recommendation. NEVER EVER AGAIN. I would have done 4.5 stars if I could . The staff was very nice. The car was clean and in good shape. The rental price was fair. The only issue I had was I got less gas mileage then had been indicated for the vehicle I drove. It was a 4 runner and was rated at least 19 mpg, but I got slightly less than 17. Don;t know if it would have made a difference in vehicle choice, but was a disappointment from expectations. I will use this rental location again. read more

The most unprofessional, dishonest business I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. First stopped in on a Tuesday and were told that the only car available for two days was $300 on top of a $200 deposit. Obviously went elsewhere. Came back on Saturday and got a truck--instead of the car we reserved--for $100. We were told by Hertz that we could switch out the cars at the Hertz at the airport. Apparently that was a big lie, because the woman working at the airport Hertz told us that was impossible to do because they didn't have any cars available (lie) and we'd need to start a new contract with them... She came at us with an attitude and had the gall to ask us why we wanted to trade cars in the first place, "Why, what's wrong with the car?" As we told her in the beginning, we were given a truck instead of the car we reserved. All around crappy experience, poor customer service.. Done with this crap. My last experience with hertz on the vestal parkway was horrible. My credit card was charged double the amount that I was quoted when I returned the car. When I spoke to the manager he was rude and arrogant and didn't accommodation my charges at all. I then asked to speak with the district manager who said that he would provide me with a explanation and return my phone call, i never received a return phone call. I had to call the billing department to get a explanation of my charges because the store manager refused to give me a printed copy and toldme to go on line and look it up myself. I had to file a complaint and they only emailed me back to say thwy they are sorry about the poor customer service and will try to work on this with there employees and then said they look forward to my business in the future.
