Stopping into this little Tex-Mex Chili joint just blocks from the central train station made me feel at home. Their menu isn't extensive, but what chili shop's isn't? I went for the "Classic." What I got wasn't quite what a Texan would call "Chili." It had beans in it, which is a Cardinal Sin in the Lone Star State. Big no-no. But I guess they are Finnish, so I can't fault them too much. The meat was the smallest bit I've ever gotten in a chili bowl- but it was layered thick and deep with fresh tomatoes, cheddar cheese, onions, lime, and tortilla chips. The presentation was wonderful- it was colorful and looked delicious! The interior was small- they can only accommodate 5 diners, tops. But the cozy space inside is a great way to get out of the snow, and get some down-home Tex-Mex cooking! They play Spanish music over the speakers, but the staff doesn't speak it. The place is attractive, with cute water bottles, and fun place settings. It's a really nice looking spot, and they do make a welcome bit of my state's cooking. Bless their hearts!

Cheeseburgers came up quickly, and the kitchen thankfully still used the hold hot plate style holding area rather than putting together everything to order - so the cheeseburgers were actually good because the cheese had been warmed and wasn't cold when bitten into. One of the staff members brought over the sticks when they were ready, we just used on the standing tables on the upper level rather than going down to the seats. I just wish we still had these types of McDonalds back in the UK; I originally thought that the touch screens etc were good and they would be, except they result in nothing ever sitting as the recipes require on the hot plate holding areas. So I do miss my proper cheeseburgers, so it was nice to get that back again here.

Located in the city center of Helsinki and close to my hotel, after a long day of exploring, I was exhausted and hungry. Craving something casual that won't break the bank, I found Friends & Brgrs, which was better than expected. Friends & Brgrs serves smashed burgers with fries, shakes and everything else you'd expect from a fast food joint. But it's better than anything you'd have in the U.S. I visited during dinner time and the place was steady, with a few patrons dining inside. You order on the touchscreen and and grab a number where one of the employees delivers your tray of food to you. After asking the staff for recommendations, they said first timers should try their signature, Friends Burger, which is a classic cheese burger with all the usual toppings, with hand-cut fries and the truffle dipping sauce. My meal was solid. I was seriously impressed by how delicious the burger was from somewhere that's considered a fast food joint. I could easily tell the burger was hand-formed and cooked fresh upon order and the fries were hand-cut. Everything is freshly made here, including the baked buns. Everything just tastes better outside of the U.S. because they don't use trash ingredients - only fresh stuff approved by the EU. I'm a fan. I would totally eat more fast food if the food in the U.S. was like Friends & Brgrs.
