Such a lovely dog park but going there is not worth it. Some owners do not neuter, watch or clean up after their dogs. Ended up in a scary situation where my dog got into it with another dog who was the aggressor (not fixed) and their owner didn't even try to help was on the phone on the other side of the park. We used this park quite a bit, it's a nice area for big dogs to run and play without just being rocks like some other city parks. I give it 3/5 because you need to be VERY careful when you bring your dog here -- other owners don't watch their dogs and often we would find owners thought it was totally ok for their dogs to bully my puppy, and say, "oh they are just dogs they will figure it out." (Well no, your dog is attacking my dog). Most recently I took my dog to the park and he was attacked at the gate by a dog, and it was a very bad situation. The other owner was 'really sorry' but it took the help of a third person to rip his dog off of my poor dog. There is a private Facebook page that's very active, and so I would suggest anyone looking to start going there to join the page to get a feel for some of the problems with the park. read more

We love that we have a dog park within walking distance to our home. There's a few reasons for only three stars..... First, we hate the gravel at the entrance. Our pup has hurt his paws multiple times on this. Good thing it's not throughout the show park. Second, there's a ginormous mud pit towards the back that is ALWAYS a puddle. It doesn't seem to ever dry up. Third, no one cleans up their pups poop. No one. You'd think they have some sort of park clean up, but no. Just be weary of these things when you bring your dog. We will continue to bring out puppy here, but wish it was a little better kept. read more

Pretty awesome dog park. We came on a Sunday around 5PM with our 5 month old Black Lab puppy. By 6:30 it was a full on dog party here with around 20 dogs playing. The dogs all played well together and people were friendly too. A few times when dogs didn't get along owners did a good job separating their dogs. The park is spacious with separated bigger and smaller dog areas. There's good facilities here too with a water fountain, a GIANT water bowl, and a number of agility course obstacles. Our dog had a great time here and will go home tired tonight. And we'll be back when she needs to get some play time in and use up some energy. read more

I like this park. It has so much potential: great soft turf under kids' feet, separate big kid and little kid playgrounds. But, many of the kids like to "play gun/killing alien games." I was surprised to see that they had their Nurf guns here. Also, I wish the bigger kids would stick to their side of the playground for safety purposes. read more

Standard dog park with lots of space for large and small dogs to run around. I hadn't been here in a couple years, so it was great to see the new features on the large dog side. I've never seen the park too crowded, which was the case today as well. There was only one couple in the large dog side with two dogs. I took my large dogs to the smaller side since it was empty, with less distraction for a game of catch. There are fountains on both sides, and I noticed about 5 water bowls on the smaller side as well. These smaller bowls were in the shade, which was a plus, however I'm not one to let my dogs drink out of random standing water that's been there for who knows how long. There are two shaded benches on the smaller side, with more on the larger side. My only complaint was the large amount of trash on the smaller side. I'm not sure if this was the case in the larger side. read more

I love this dog park. I recently just started coming here. The other dog owners are really nice but it gets pretty crowded after 5. The one problem that I have is that some of the dogs try to bully my puppy and the owners don't say anything to their dog nor try to stop it. I have seen another dog get bit real bad one time and had to get rushed to get stitches. The owner did give all information and kindly said he will pay the bill. read more

The pros of this dog park are that the space for larger dogs is really big and is mostly made of grass, so dogs can really run around and have room to play. There is also a really great group of regulars who go on weeknights who are friendly with sweet dogs. The reason for 3 stars is that there are a lot of irresponsible dog owners who also frequent this dog park- in the past few months I've encountered several irresponsible owners who watch their dogs act in a super aggressive way for minutes but do nothing to intervene until their dog is attacking another dog. I've also encountered owners who are rude and outright aggressive themselves. There are also a lot of young kids (6-10 year olds) who trickle in from the playground nearby play inside the dog park with no adult supervision and it's clear that many of them haven't been exposed to proper behavior around dogs- I've seen kids try to pet dogs who are play fighting several times or will come in eating food and dogs will leap at them to grab their food and scare the kids. This is a huge liability and I'm always nervous that something will happen to an unsupervised child and the blame will be put on the dog and dog owner, even though they are in a designated dog park! Between this and the fact that pretty much every time I go to this dog park there is an aggressive dog and a dog fight, I've decided to look for another park in the area and would suggest most people do the same. It's a shame because the space is so nice and the regulars are a great group of people/dogs, but it's doesn't outweigh the risk of being around so many irresponsible people. read more

A solid dog park, although it could really use some lighting to allow for nighttime use! Also, as a small-dog owner, it'd be nice if there were some fun equipment in the small dog area like there is on the large dog side. That said, when a friend and I took our dogs there, the large dog side was empty, so we used that. The dogs had a blast, and the people had a pretty good time, too, although there was a lot of mud to navigate. I appreciate the free poop bags and look forward to trying this park out when there are some more dogs there to play with! read more

We love this dog park. It is huge, there's water fountains for the dogs, agility training obstacles. But more importantly most doggie owners are very nice and the other dogs (like 22 of them) are friendly. There's plenty of people around 6pm everyday of the week and a smaller dog park on its side. Huge dog park with fences to separate big and smaller dogs. Agility equipment for large dogs. I went on the weekend when weather was warmer. The dog park and surrounding park had lots of dog poop. Not sure how often dog owners or park workers clean up the park. That was a turn off. I didn't see as much garbage cans or dog bags as I'm used to seeing at other parks. A couple of dog owners seemed a bit aloof about their dogs. One dog really should've left the park since he was barking often in other dogs' faces for attention. Plenty of parking. Overall, I don't think I'll bring my dog back. I've been at other parks where owners are more responsive to their dogs and discipline them. The park does have a lot of potential. It would be great to have equipment for the smaller dogs too. read more

This is a a very large dog park! My dog and I just moved here from out of state and we have been highly disappointed by the so called "dog parks" around here. The ones we have been to have all be gravel and very small. My dog is a border collie mix and she needs to run! This park in LARGE and 25% gravel and 75% grass- yes I said GRASS!! There are poop bags all around, though no water in the park. There are bowls but no water. Yet across the path near the children's park there is a doggy fountain. We met friendly people and pets- though not one (other than mine) was fixed. read more

Huge dog park in hyattsville! What I loved about this place is that they had 2 separate yards one for larger dogs and one for puppies and small dogs. My little Tonic had such a great time running without a leash and making new friends that he came home and slept for 2 hours. read more

Very nice. We've been several times on different days and during different hours but there's never anyone else or dogs which is dissapointing. I like dog parks over regular parks for the simple fact of socializing. I thought maybe if I come around 11 on a Saturday there would be dogs but nope. That is the only reason for 3 stars vs 4. It's a bit small on the small section. But overall clean, quiet, easily accessible. read more

I've been here twice recently the people and the dogs are always friendly, my only complaint is that someone rigged the doggy water fountain to run non-stop. Which at first I thought was nice because my pup could drink when he wanted without me going over to push the button for him, that was until he laid in the tiny muddy stream the constantly running water had created. The park itself is really nice though, plenty of seating, a cute little agility training thing, and your dogs can dig in the tree square things without you having to worry about anyone tripping in the hole and breaking an ankle. Over all I really love this place and will be taking my boy there as much as I can. read more

This dog park is pretty good. It has a small dog area and huge area for large dogs that's big enough to throw & fetch a great distance, and it has a water fountain for dogs. Recently they've added an agility playground in the large dog area. There is seating for people, and some shade. The downside to this dog park is there is a shady character with 2 extremely large dogs (pit/mastiff maybe, well over 100lbs each), one is all white and the female is mostly brown/red with a white underbelly. The dogs are un-neutered and they are not well-socialized (too territorial over the owner) so they will fight with other dogs. The owner of these dogs has supposedly been banned but he continues to bring his dogs despite several injury-causing fights they've caused. Park police drive by frequently and should recognize him by now, as he lives across the street it seems. I will exit the dog park with my dogs if this gentleman comes by again (you can see someone arrive for several yards along the fence line). Flagging down Park Police is probably not a bad idea either. Everyone else is great and there are frequently lots of dogs having lots of fun. Couple Tips: 1) your dog loves you, but if he/she is PROTECTIVE over you and/or JEALOUS, then he/she doesn't belong in a dog park. He/she will start a fight and could get hurt or you could be liable for someone else's dog's injuries. Do some reading on breaking those bad habits, or consult a qualified trainer. Your dog should only protect you in a real emergency anyway! 2) if your dog is UN-NEUTERED (ie intact, unspayed) they don't belong in a dog park; they will start a fight and same as above on injuries 3) don't let your dog be a jerk in any way: humping, running down, jumping, biting and barking incessantly should be addressed; if your dog has bad manners, at the dog park you should either address it, remove them, or don't bring them in the first place 4) when you enter the dog park, keep walking, don't hover over the dogs as they meet as it will heighten everyone's anxiety, but if you keep moving, so will the introductions 5) don't pick up your dogs in your arms, no matter how small, it starts a bad interaction with the other dogs in the park; also don't leash your dog in the park unless there's a problem and you're exiting or it will make them a target for bullying by other dogs and will make your dog more protective of you, which is also not safe 6) move away from your dog if they are cowering or hiding under you, or if they are guarding you, they'll make better friends if you move away from them and they can learn how to be friends Have fun! read more
