A lovely doggie park conveniently located in the center DC . This park has 2 gates open for access. Ground is not flat rather hilly in the middle and slopes down around the sides. This fenced in dog park is close to Dupont circle and is easily walkable for pup owners in Northwest DC. This park features astroturf and is situated in a cute intersection surrounded by victorian style buildings. The streets are well lit and this is a safe area, making this park nice to visit later in the day. Pros: Set up: This part usually feels clean. I'm not sure how the turf drains, but there is never any smell at this park. There are always poop bags readily available, and trash cans that seem to be emptied regularly. There are lots of benches for owners to sit on, as well. Because of the turf, I do not see my white pups getting as muddy or dirty as they do in some natural grass or granite parks in the area. Activity: This is a frequently visited dog park-- there are lots of pups here, and most are well behaved. This is a wonderful spot to bring your dog to socialize with other pups. Convenience: This spot is super convenient for folks living in the Logan circle or Dupont Circle areas. Con: Sometimes, at peak hours, and especially on weekends, I feel that it can be a bit crowded at this park. Folks definitely tend to social distance, so the crowding here more so apples to the number of dogs running around in a limited space. I don't mind this so much, but I have seen some collisions of pups running into each other. If you have an older or less social dog, I might advise that to avoid the crowding and happy chaos present at peak hours, you avoid weekend mornings and come at off times, if possible. read more

Dog parks complement an urban scene and allow not only socialization among pets but also among humans. This park is a gem in a gem of a neighborhood, stone's throw from Embassy Row, Dupont Circle, the 17th Street Gayborhood, and the Connecticut Avenue scene. I remember when it first opened there were issues with inconsiderate Basenji owners who would come in with 12 or so dogs and take over the park. Apparently they've been spoken to and are no longer present, to the benefit of the neighborhood. It is also well maintained and supplied with poopy bags and water. Awesome. read more

Very fun! We brought our dog on a visit to DC and she had a blast running with the other dogs. Dogs of all sizes but all were great at playing with each other. Plus with the turf she didn't get all muddy. Fun little spot in the middle of DC read more

The city needs to do renovations badly, but most people who go keep the place looking as best they can. Lots of dogs in the peak hours, it can get a little crazy. Important to keep an eye on your dog. Most have fun, but every once in a while there is a scuffle. Best part is the park is Astro turf and got gravel so your dog won't got insanely dirty. read more

Nice park and I don't mind the astro turf. They have little plastic pools you can use for your dogs on hot days. The biggest problem is that you have to keep a watchful eye on your dog because most owners don't pay adequate attention to theirs. I have seen dogs get out of control quick so I watch my baby like a hawk. Also, people don't pick up the dog poop around the perimeter where there is dirt. These areas also get very muddy on rainy days. It's all one park - no separate areas for small/large dogs. The trash cans often get to overflowing which draws many flies around it. They have plenty of poop bags. It's better than average. My dog has more fun playing at the Ellsworth Park in SS. read more

Bad Dog Parents, you have taken the fun out of the park. Actually, you have made it disgusting. When your dog goes and pees on the seats, and you are WATCHING THIS, please try to say something like "no" (or whatever) rather than just laugh so that not every dog will follow.... and then someone won't sit in it. But then, as what happened yesterday, is the ultimate in disgusting: because two dogs had just gone to the bathroom on top of the seats, one giant dog actually POOPED on the seat. ON THE SEAT. Yes, we are envious non-dog-owners who like to sit here because our TiVo accidentally deleted Puppy Bowl. This is one cool dog park. They have antimicrobial(!) K9 "grass." It's securely gated so you needn't worry about Fido chasing balls into the street. There's lots of bench seating. And some of the dogs here are sooo cute and sweet and friendly and funny. This is my favorite dog park in D.C. It is a true community hub. The gates work great (only 9-10 years old), the grass is fake so the dogs don't get muddy. The dog owners are (mostly) respectful. Every now and then the dogs will get aggressive (especially when there are a lot of big dogs) but usually the owners resolve things quickly. Love it! read more

Yes, it smells like dog pee at all times, and yes it is tiny, but my dog loves it SO much more than the larger, less smelly Shaw Dog Park at 11th and R. In fact, I suspect the smelliness and the smallness are two of the things that appeal to her-- it gets the dog a lot more excited and keeps them in much closer proximity to one another. Ultimately, the test of the dog park is in my dog's happiness. Five stars. read more

It's centrally located, but not huge by any means. It does have the perk of water fountains inside the park, and doors are relatively easy to operate and the turf is conducive to canine track meets, if not much else. There was a paucity of objects for dogs to actually play with and apparently rules limiting what you can bring, which makes things a bit tough depending on the dog's proclivities. There's also not a ton of shade. Honestly I'd hoped S Street would be better than my local Walter Pierce Park, but in truth it was better on some counts, worse on others. read more

This is a great dog park. There is street parking right next to the park and it's is a great spot for your dog to run. It is a bit complicated because there are always at least 5 to 10 dogs in the park. This sort of makes it like a playground where everyone is worried about who is bullying whose kid. The reality is that domesticated animals are just a few steps from being wild wolves. It seems like everyone tries to remember this but it can get complicated. I think it's a great place to go to let your puppy feel free in the city. read more

Decent park for the area but extremely muddy along the sides and no poop bags when I visited.

Not the best park for people with bully breed mixes who like to wrestle, play rough, and growl. There are a few dog owners here who can tell the difference between aggression versus play and know when to step in to de-escalate a situation between dogs- all of which is really important. However, I will say that many, if not most, of the dog parents at this park are over-protective and quick to accuse a dog of being aggressive, even when it's their own dog who is initiating play and wants to be chased! Also, this park gets way too crowded. My partner and I discovered a neighborhood dog haven where we've been able to make friends with other dog-parents who live on the same block and let our dog run off leash with other dogs. We go there instead since it's super close to our apartment. read more

I've been taking my puppy here since before he was technically supposed to go. My Siberian Husky, Neptune is now six months so he's been coming here for at least three and a half months. Initially, I really liked the park. He would have a great time, there weren't too many incidents to report and most owners seemed to be pretty respectful of other dogs and owners. When he was about four months old, some one's miniature schnauzer attacked him. This owner was off chatting to another owner and on his phone, not paying any attention. Because I always pay close attention to my dog, I was able to deescalate the situation before my dog was seriously injured. This man then tried to deny the fact that his dog attacked mine (even though Neptune had a bright red blood track on his white fur coming from his eye). To make matters worse, these people provided false contact information, so I was stuck with the $120 vet bill. Something similar happened about a month later with another small dog, whose owner was barely paying attention. Again, my dog was injured in his eye area.This time, the small dog owner QUICKLY leashed his dog and exited the park before I could confront him. Because he knew he was wrong. People come here to read, socialize and play on their phone rather than to provide a fun, healthy experience for their dog like I do. While there are definitely other owners like me that frequent the park, there are far too many people who don't fit this description and I'm not sure it's worth the risk. It'd be nice if they would create an area for the small dogs (90% of the time, small dogs are the problem) or if they had cameras or an employee to monitor the area. I know that's a lot to ask for a dog park, but it seems that no one is going to care until they are held accountable. read more

The dog park is really nice and it constantly gets visited by kind people with amazingly trained and non-aggressive dogs so there's always a dog for your dog to play with. The only thing I would suggest is dividing the park between a small dog area and a large dog area to protect the smaller dogs from mistakenly being injured by large dogs. I know this will reduce running space for the dogs, especially the large dogs, but I think it's still better for the protection and safety of the smaller dogs. read more

In theory, this dog park is fantastic. However, when you actually take your dog to the park it becomes something totally different. Whether its people standing outside the park yelling at you to stop your dog from playing with a bigger dog or people inside the park being so over-protective of their dog that if any other dog comes near it, the place becomes terrible. There seems to be two schools of thought about this dog park - that it is a place for dogs to play, or that it is a place for your dog to sit outside for a few minutes. When you put them into such a small space, it creates a mess. Better to take your dog to Shirlington, where there is enough room for dogs to run around, and the owners aren't entitled crazies who flip out when their dog gets a speck of mud on it. Seems like this is the only dog park where people get worried about dogs playing with each other. Used to go here all the time, had enough horrible experiences with the people (never the dogs, the dogs are all great) that it's time to go elsewhere. read more

This is a beautiful park that is a great asset for the neighborhood, particularly with all the canine residents. However, the mix of dog parents span the scale from great to bad (but there are no bad dogs!). It's frustrating to see the number of people who ignore their dogs while there, don't pick up after them, and don't give them appropriate structure to keep them happy, healthy and safe. And it's frustrating to see people not be good stewards of this wonderful space for our pooches to play outside. At the same time, you can meet some really great people and great dogs. Word to the wise - don't sit on the benches. They're a popular target. And don't stand still for too long lest you be mistaken for a tree. I tend to shy away from weekends and "happy hour" because it gets a bit crowded/crazy. Kind of like JR's on welfare night, but without the vodka. read more

OMG. I love dogs. So I was watching the dogs play at the park after I finished some business in the area. A couple came in with a Boston Terrier. Cool I thought. He/she was searching for dogs she/he could connect with. I understand that's what dogs do. Meanwhile this aggressive dog came and greeted her, checking her out, then later assaulted her. She ran a few times to protect herself. However, the watcher of the aggressive dog, made everyone aware that her dog sometimes would play, but there were times he would get aggressive. Well her dog went after the Boston Terrier a little while after she arrived and he had finished playing with the other dogs. And the guardian of the Boston Terrier said nothing. WTF.... I was on the other side of the fence, and I started yelling, someone needs to get that dog, over and over again. The guardian of the larger dog, got up, and replied, calm down, I'm handling this. Is this your dog, she asked? No, it's their dog. The couple was sitting on a bench (guardians of the Boston Terrier), and said nothing when their dog was under attacked. My reply, it's their dog. One of the guardians (male) of the Boston Terrier said, "Let them fight." I'm ok with it. WTF. Really. That's when I left. Otherwise, I was ready to get my camera out and photograph the entire thing, and give the larger dog guardian my card (as a witness to his words). But I don't shoot dog fights. I love animals. I have an aggressive small dog, and I would never allow my dog to fight another. It's just not cool. So I assume that he was another Michael Vick without the dog fighting ring. This is not a place I would take my dog. read more

I love this place. While some may say it is too small, I think it is the perfect size. It is small enough where the dogs are somewhat forced to interact but large enough where it isn't unsafe or awkward. You are in NW DC, and you need to accept that fact. It is a good mixed group of dog breeds and dog owners. The turf is great in that the dogs don't get dirty and you aren't at the mercy of the city for park upkeep. The owners pick up their dog's shit and everyone is good. Only problem we found with this park is something that is not unique to this park. There is going to be that dog who is overly aggressive. As a rule of thumb, if you need to watch your dog out of fear that it will get aggressive with another dog it probably shouldn't be at a dog park. read more

Some of these reviews are hilarious. This dog park is a great park for socializing dogs. People need to calm down about these negative reviews (you sound quite stuckup). No Matter what dog park you go to there will be dogs that do not behave, it is your job as a dog owner to remove your dog from that specific situation and continue having fun at the park. Most dog owners at this park either fall into the "overly protective" or the "can't be bothered to watch my dog" categories. My dog loved coming to this dog park but after too many incidents, we no longer come to this park. We will only go in if there are less than 5 or so dogs. My biggest pet peeve is that even though there are rules about not having toys at certain times, folks still bring balls and toys to toss for their dogs. This leads to many fights since some dogs have real possession issues with toys and objects. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else with your pup. It's not worth the frustration (or future vet bills!) even though it's incredibly convenient if you live in the neighborhood. read more

Lots of variety of breeds, lots of well trained dogs when we went hence good owners, well kept astroturf, nicely fenced in and fantastic double gated entrance. My name is Callie and I'm addicted to dog parks. Okay, I'm going to come out here and say it: I'm the creep in the dog park that didn't bring a dog and is trying to pet yours. My friend and I make dates to stop in this dog park after work or another walking back from the Woodley Park Metro. I assure you that we're harmless. With that said... The park is in a great location for people living or working in DuPont Circle, Adams Morgan, or 14th street. The park is clean. The people are friendly and tend to be quick to address any over-excited or rowdy pups. The park is big enough for the dogs to romp around, without the risk of losing sight of your dog. The only oddity was a man being pushed around the park on a trolley with a professional camera rig. Not certain what that was about, but it didn't seem to bother anyone. read more

This is a good park when you'd like to keep your dog away from nasty water and mud/dirt. The downside is that if you have a larger dog, there isn't all that much room to run. And then there's the fact that on the few occasions I've been there, some of the dog owners have been really rude/snotty/uptight. I'll continue to go because there aren't many parks around where you can pretty much guarantee your dog will leave relatively clean. (Also- they have weird bugs here that bite! We stop by here every time we are heading back to the metro from Hana Market/U Street area, and it adds about 15 minutes onto the trip because we just can't pull ourselves away from watching the cute dogs playing with each other and having a blast! The place is small, but we have seen some enormous dogs in there, and they seem to have plenty of space to get a little sprint in and always seem happy. It is also very clean for a dog park - I have seen much dirtier, smellier ones - and I like the turf. Lots of people stand on the sides of the fence watching and I think this probably applies additional pressure on the owners to clean up after their dogs - I have never witnessed a dog pooping and the owner not immediately cleaning it up. This is a very pug-alicious park - literally every time we are here we see at least 3 pugs. There is also a giant sheepdog we have seen several times who is adorable. All the dogs are! This is one of my favorite spots in the city and it is always a joy to stop by here. read more

My puppy had a lot of fun being able to play with the other dogs, in which the diversity is a nice thing to experience for both the dog and the owners. Drove around for 20 minutes before I could find any spot close to the park. When I finally did, was unsure if it was even a legal spot. Maybe it's good for people who live within the area but I wouldn't recommend if you're driving. The park itself is very small and very crowded. People were on their phones or distracted and I noticed a lot of dogs were out of control with no one to correct their behavior. I scooped my dog up from a dog who kept trying to tackle and bite him and the owner just laughed. There is no sign with rules posted. The turf reaked of urine. The kiddy pools are a cute idea but are filled with filthy water. Went out of my way to check this place out because there were some great reviews, but my pup and I won't be returning. read more

Having just moved to DC and brought our Ori-Pei from a house with an ample back yard to a one bedroom apartment, this place was a great find for us. Although the park is small-ish, there is plenty of open space to run and romp. He was able to run around and play with other dogs. The other dog owners were very attentive and friendly, and there was a nice mixture of dog breeds and sizes so every dog had someone of comparable size to play with. It's a very clean dog park. The park has shovels and bags available to clean up after your dog. There is no "grass", but it is covered in astro-turf type material. It confused my pup a bit but it's really a smart idea for the weather and dog traffic that the park receives. The neighborhood is adorable and there was street parking available for us since we traveled a distance too far to walk. There was water available for the dogs and plenty of benches for owners to sit. We are definitely going to make this a regular stop for our pup a few times a week. 100% recommend this dog park. read more

I'm not from the area and I was looking to kill some time as I waited for my boyfriend to finish something up. I had my little pup with me and decided to take a walk to this park. The park had turf for the dogs to play on. The perimeter of the park is lined with plenty of benches to grab a seat while your dog plays. This park doesn't separate big dogs from little dogs. This park is also lined with dirt along the perimeter so it's pretty easy for dogs to get very messy playing here. There is also a drinking fountain for the pups. I didn't pay attention to see if there were a good number of trash cans and/or poop bags for the community to use. read more

This is a pretty basic dog park. Just a large gated green patch for your dog to run around in. It was pretty clean but all of the bag stations were empty so I would suggests you bring your own poop bags. The water bowl was also ful of hair which seemed a bit yucky to me. I carry a protable water bottle for my dogs so I was prepared. Overall my pups enjoyed the free open space and the ppl that were there seemed nice. read more

This is a great dog park, particularly for small to medium sized dogs. It is secured with double locked entry and the space is small enough for everyone to monitor the dogs, so I feel very comfortable letting my 13 lb dog run around. The owners tend to be pretty quiet and low key, and the dogs are generally very well behaved. Several rescue volunteers frequent this park with their foster dogs, so there are pretty much always dogs here to play with. Other perks: It's always clean and there are plastic bags, water fountains, and decently comfy chairs! The only downside is that it can be very, very buggy, particularly right where the chairs are. Our doodle loves this dog park! I don't know what we'd do without it. When you live in a one bedroom apartment, you need somewhere nearby for your pup to run around and get that energy out! This park is perfect - plenty of space for him to run, always lots of dogs around to play with, and nice and clean and well-kept. There are benches, bags to pick up after your pup, and water bowls. All of the other owners there are always so nice, and all the dogs play so well together and are so friendly! I'm surprised by the reviews saying that there are aggressive dogs here - we've been taking our pup here since he was 3 months old and have never had an issue. The few times dogs were getting too rough, the owners were quick to jump right in. I think people that have had a bad experience either have aggressive dogs themselves or don't understand what it looks like when dogs play. All in all this dog park is awesome and I'm so glad it's in our neighborhood! read more
