Things I love about this park: - it's plenty of space for my dude to get tons of zoomies out! I have a 1 year old husky boxer mix who sometimes just needs to run free...and this park allows him to do that! - it's fully fenced! I feel good knowing my dog can run free without getting into too much trouble. - there are two poop bag stations that sit outside of the two gates that are always stocked. - even on super nice days, it never gets tooooo crowded which I love. - there are two separate areas. The bigger side, I'm assuming for bigger dogs, and a smaller side for the smaller pups. What I love though, is the smaller side is still enough space for your pup to run and get some zoomies out. - the park is normally super clean. They shut down for cleaning once a month, which I appreciate. - there's a working water fountain for the pups and humans (on both sides). The only reason for the 4 stars (and not 5) - I wish there was some shade in the park. In the summer it can get BRUTAL for the dogs and the HUMANS. Otherwise, great park. Tons of space. Enough space to spread out.

There's grass and pretty flowers and an interesting water feature that I wish I saw a sign to describe/explain it. The middle section is more pretty flowers and some grass, with more sculptures (and people LARP-ing if you're interested in watching them.) The southern most section is less of a park and more of a large in ground fountain/water feature with seating and places to eat. Our hotel was a minute walk away, so we walked through Canal Park a lot and we really enjoyed the simple respite from city life.

There's even a giant turtle statue just a few blocks away on the other side of Eastern Market. This is a place I never even noticed until we had kids, then it became central to my life. We have come here every single day for weeks on end. We have come in the dark, during the daylight hours. It's not well maintained and always has a myriad of crappy broken down plastic toys thrown about. The drinking fountains are not operations and that's probably a blessing, however I have seen the maintenance guys come by and there are many roaches living in the recesses of the fountains. The park has some shade--not a lot. During peak summer hours it's unbearably hot and there is no water available. If you are thirsty the convenience store across the street is your only option ($5 card minimum purchase btw). During summer months this park has pretty bad mosquitos, so bring bug spray and sunscreen with you. The areas that are shaded are under trees where grass can't grow. The park is generally a bit rocky and dusty/muddy in the grass areas. It appears to have had several trees cut down because their stumps remain. Most of the patrons of the park are pretty conscientious except for the nannies. Some nannies tend to leave a lot of trash behind and I suspect it's just one or two people, but my kids tend to find and pick it up. It's so disgusting in most cases. One funny phenomenon that happens here is many families come here for dinner. There are some miniature tables setup on the side of the playground and families use them for daily dinners with the kids. There's also two picnic tables which are typically occupied by nannies or large parties of people. The far end of the park is devoted to dogs and a few homeless people sleep on the benches. The dog area of the park is also disgusting, lacking grass and being full of dog excrement. A police station is located across the street from the park so much of the surrounding parking is taken up by police cars. Interestingly though, I have never seen a police officer enter the park. They keep to themselves. All in all this is a nice city park. I wish it had a splash area and shrunk the dog run to include some other features, like maybe basketball. But for kids or dogs this is a great Capitol Hill destination, far better than other parks like Garfield or Lincoln in my opinion.

The amped responding officer said, "You guys are gone.." to the woman (mom/aunt/adult family friend?) who had a dog with her. Instead of communicating directly with the family about what they perceived as potentially harmful to children, the children themselves were the perceived threat... oops!

The only reason I'm taking off a star is because occasionally people who regularly go here forget that it is technically still a neighborhood park and many different types of people live in this neighborhood. I have seen adults treat children who just want to look at dogs in a very mean way. I understand that children are not allowed in without adult supervision, but I have seen adults threaten to call the cops on kids who couldn't be more than 10 just because they tried to enter the park instead of just calmly explaining the rules.

One stroll around the park, through it or near it and you'll immediately feel the vibe. Two of my dogs were raised at the park. Daily walks and squirrel chases were common. While they're no longer with us, the park reminds me of them. The memories linger as new pups find their place along the grassy yet dirt-patched park. It's always a great day to be at Lincoln Park.

My very 1st game was on Memorial Day 2013, which was a Beltway series against the O's. At the time, I was living in Alexandria; so I was geographically closer to DC than Baltimore. So naturally, I was rooting for the Nats. My friend who was a Phillies fan was rooting for the O's. In 2021, O's became my #1 team, and Nats moved from 2nd favorite to least favorite. Nats gained a bit back, maybe now 4th or 5th least favorite team. In spite of not liking the Nats now, it's still a solid ballpark. At some point, I'll give a 5-star review to Camden Yard in Baltimore. I like Nats Park better than Wrigley Field (Chicago Cubs)...see my 3-star of them from October 2025. Rate Field (Chicago White Sox) I gave 4-stars that same day in October. I think Nats Park is even a bit superior to Rate Field. The thing that is a winning factor for Nats Park is some good city views of US Capitol & various other buildings particularly in the nosebleed seats. The ballpark is spacious. You come in a grand entrance. Their mascot is Screech, an oversized bald eagle. But even more well known are the oversized Presidents. I've said hello to Lincoln (my favorite President) as well as Washington, Jefferson, & Teddy Roosevelt greeting fans. By far, Teddy is the most popular people root for when they race around the ballpark in the 4th inning. I'd be happy for Teddy as that's what the majority want, but I don't have a strong opinion. Regardless of who wins, it's entertaining to watch. In September 2015, I took pics of US Presidents in race greeting fans in the front. For a few years, they were honoring William Howard Taft, who was the 1st President to throw out a ceremonial pitch. It was in April 1910 in DC, the Washington Senators vs. Philadelphia Athletics. I'm pictured with Calvin Coolidge who they used for some of 2015 season in the race. Eating options are plentiful, but of course overpriced, but some good unique variety. In August 2024, I had Arepa, which was great. Fun fact: The last FIVE games I was rooting for the other teams (Rangers, White Sox, O's, Reds, & Brewers all lost when I saw them), and Nats won. My intention is good luck to the other team, but just my luck Nats win every time. Maybe I should go when Dodgers or Yankees visit; that's when I'd want to give Nats some luck! In July 2023, I was rooting for Texas Rangers. I had the starting pitcher in my Fantasy baseball league. My friend was running a bit behind. I waited by Metro for him, and I was checking on my phone Rangers didn't score in 1st inning. Then, it was Nats turn at bat, and all of sudden I heard loud cheering, it was a 3-run homer, then a 1-run homer. 4-0. My pitcher got lit up with 36 ERA in the 1st inning. I was annoyed with a rain delay that occurred. Almost the entire DC area wasn't experiencing rain but an isolated thunderstorm blew through Alexandria & Reagan National Airport and came right over Nats Park. The rain lasted maybe 15 minutes, but the game was delayed 1.5 hours, which I thought was ridiculous. I thought it might've been a ploy to get people to buy more drinks or food. But I wasn't going to do that. So instead of eating dinner after the game perhaps 6:30 or 7, it was after 8 PM. In September 2023, I had extra leave time for work I needed to use by end of month. I went to a Wednesday day game against White Sox. It was high scoring game for Nats 13 runs, and slightly below the median with only 3 for the White Sox. In May 2024, I was decked out in my O's shirt & hat for the Beltway series. Of course, my O's were bums...their final # of runs was a big fat O, while Nats got 3 or a sideways curly W for them. Then, Nats beat Cincinnati Reds when I was there in July 2024. Carly Rae Jepson performed that night, which was cool. Finally, in August 2024, I was rooting for my Milwaukee Brewers. But of course, they had to be total bums until 8th inning, where they caught up to only lose by 1 run. Conclusions: Nats Park is good solid ballpark. It's not the most architecturally appealing on the design like more the classic Camden Yard style, but it still does the job for good spectating.

It takes 2 minutes to submit a ticket and if enough people request the city invest, the city HAS to respond. Look how long they took to rebuild Florida Ave on our side of town, while all the other areas of town got new roads and parks and high speed internet. This city gets away with murder when it comes to investing in the black and brown neighborhoods. Demand they do better.
