We used this park quite a bit, it's a nice area for big dogs to run and play without just being…read morerocks like some other city parks. I give it 3/5 because you need to be VERY careful when you bring your dog here -- other owners don't watch their dogs and often we would find owners thought it was totally ok for their dogs to bully my puppy, and say, "oh they are just dogs they will figure it out." (Well no, your dog is attacking my dog). Most recently I took my dog to the park and he was attacked at the gate by a dog, and it was a very bad situation. The other owner was 'really sorry' but it took the help of a third person to rip his dog off of my poor dog. There is a private Facebook page that's very active, and so I would suggest anyone looking to start going there to join the page to get a feel for some of the problems with the park.

As others have said, there isn't a separation for large and small dogs, nor is there a double gate. The large and small dogs playing together doesn't bother me as much as the lack of a double gate. I get a little worried when people are going in and out that we might get some escapee dogs. I'm even a little worried that a passerby could just unlock and open the gate just to cause chaos, although, this is probably just me being overprotective. Another item of note is that there are a few areas where tiny dogs can slip underneath the fence. During my first visit, before I even entered the park, a little chihuahua slipped underneath and started running around outside (luckily the owner was fast and got her). Otherwise, my dog loves playing here. I've met some great people so far who have encouraged me to trust how dogs play, even if sometimes it looks a little aggressive to me.

They have a doggy water fountain in the park, but as with most of these fountains, the locals leave a bowl and the dogs all drink out of that instead of the doggy fountain. The fountain has a normal waters spigot and hose to spray your dog or fill the bowl. There is a separate area that may be used for training or dogs who aren't able to play due to surgery or temperament.

This park used to be so ghetto 15 years ago, and it looks like the city did some remodeling and they fixed up the park grounds. My guess would be probably around 200 - 300 people here today on this late Sunday afternoon. There were no dogs or kids flying kites, but I did see a few yoga mats, while other people were dancing in the background. Summertime madness is here in DC.
