I spent months researching dwarf Japanese maple trees last year, trying to find the perfect variety for my yard in Franklin. By the time I finally knew I wanted Orangeola maples, they were sold out everywhere. So today I went to Hewitt's with one mission, to find two Orangeola maples, ideally in 6-gallon buckets. Alan was introduced to me as the tree expert, and he absolutely lived up to the title. I explained what I was looking for, and he immediately walked me over to the first two 6-gallon Orangeola dwarf maples they had just received. We spent maybe ten minutes with the trees, and they were exactly what I wanted. I also told Alan that I had uprooted all my plants last year to redesign my landscape and showed him photos of my front yard. I explained that I wanted more color instead of the usual deep green evergreens and boxwoods. Without hesitation, he walked me over to a beautiful little shrub that changes through five different colors. He was fantastic........knowledgeable, friendly, and quick. You know the feeling you get when you bring home a new puppy? That's exactly how it feels visiting and bringing home a plant from Hewitt nursery!! We were just starting the Landscaping in our front and backyard. Wanted to take it a different direction than the usual "green on green"; something more colorful year round, durable and low maintenance. Hubby and I decided on conifer's and Japanese maples to be the bulk of our planting. So we set out to all the local nurseries. Now, when I say we visited all the nursery's - I mean ALL! We visited the big box stores as well and after a while, everything just started to blur together. We would find us few small things here and there, but were really struggling to find -that place- the unicorn of all plant nurseries. We will *never* forget the first time we pulled into Hewitt. We immediately noticed this place was different. Very different. JUST the drive getting to the parking area was filled with stunning Japanese maples that left us awe struck. Varieties and sizes that the only other place we had seen the compared was a local botanical garden. After parking, we immediately noticed a humongous section of conifers-the array of colors drew us in! We ran to the area giggling like kids- turning our necks in constant swivel of the incredible inventory we were seeing. Nothing was average - everything appears to be specimen quality level. We eventually discovered the perennial, annuals, ceramic pot areas, and the multi-house plant greenhouses. We were quickly realizing this nursery was a standalone and at the top of their game. We were greeted by staff who allowed us to look around without any pressure but always readily available when we had a question or needed information. Everything was meticulously organized, and the categories of plants just went on and on. They even have a bonsai tree area (something we have never seen anywhere else!) with several jaw dropping specimens for sale. Now, onto the remaining part of the property, which is a few vast acres, we happily discovered the greatest variety of trees, shrubs, ground covers, and everything else we could ever want. We are huge outdoor lovers and enjoy hiking beautiful places and can honestly say, just walking through the Hewitt trees sales area rivals some of our most beautiful hikes we've ever walked -we just laughed because we couldn't believe we were seeing all of this inside of a nursery! It was just awesome!! We inquired about the delivery and install service which we found to be extremely reasonable and was happy to find a nursery that could cover it all. They had all the supplies we needed, including conditioner and fertilizers. Over the course of about two months and visiting regularly, we were set to have a pretty good delivery made to our home. Arranging the delivery was easy. Communication was flawless, the delivery drivers showed up on a rainy day with smiles on their faces and respected our property as if it was their own. Part of the delivery went to beautify the front yard and part in the back yard. We have an acre property and are so glad that we have room to really have fun with our Landscaping. We have been regular purchasers of numerous wonderful plants from Hewitts since discovering them that we have lost count! But let's be honest, a great selection of plants and trees can only get a place so far-the nursery also has to have great prices and a stand out staff. Some nursery's would have one great aspect but not the others. Could it be possible for a nursery to have all three of these winning traits? YES! Hewitt nursery not only has the best selection, quality plants and products, but they have the great staff and extremely competitive pricing! Every day we have come to the nursery there are workers out on the lot, putting in 100% in the arrangement and care of the plants, the sales people are sincere and low pressure and all of the support staff, including managers and cashiers really go out of their way to not just make you feel like a customer, but part of the Hewitt family. We are excited to see the growth of everything in our yard and the changing colors through the years. Everything that we have purchased from Hewitt has been healthy and taken to their spots in the yard and are thriving. Our yard and all these plants will keep us young and every single day provide us with so much happiness. We absolutely love, Hewitt nursery, and for good reason. Hands down my favorite nursery I've ever visited! This huge oasis in Franklin has a wonderful variety of plants (indoor as well as outdoor) and gorgeous pots! Heads up for frugal plant lovers - They are not inexpensive because they are clearly excellent quality and craftsmanship. I could spend an entire day at Hewitt just enjoying their inventory because it is well organized and beautiful. They have enough staff that you feel like you don't need to hunt someone down for help. They have a few extra large plants around the shop that are just breathtaking and worth the trip to see if you're a plant-fanatic like myself! Oh my! Oh my goodness! What a Garden Center...and more! We contacted Hewitt Garden & Design over a year ago (2020) when the pandemic was in full swing. We were searching for a few special plants and they told us over the phone that they had them. And they would deliver! Flash forward to this year (Spring 2021). I stopped by for a quick visit...just to scout out the place and my-oh-my was I ever floored! I had passed by the relatively "hidden" entrance many times, but turning in this time, I suddently realized how large a space this was. (Big Box stores like Lowes & HD....step aside, please.) And now....skip forward to this past week....4 trips, no less to visit with my wife and to discuss, explore the phenomenal selection of plants and landscape supplies....all sorts, all sizes spread out over a large area (by my unscientific estimate, several acres of greenhouses, outdoor plantings, and hoop structures.) We shopped for perennial shrubs and flowering plants to re-landscape our home while gathering information for other members of our family as well. The staff (Athena, Brie, & Chloe plus others whose names we did not write down) were helpful at every turn of our meandering shopping trips. They happily showed us where certain plants were located, helped move large shrubs & trees so we could gain access up close and "personal" to the specimens we were seeking. They helped load our car and simply made us feel very very welcome. (Be sure to wear sunscreen if you plan to stay a while! Lesson learned...) The quality of the items - annuals, perennials and some garden veggies -were all healthy and strong and we look forward to continuing to shop at Hewitt's when we help our extended family redo their homes' exteriors. 5 bright stars! read more

Bought bushes after deep freeze. It's hard to get help, but I waited. 7 of my bushes did not live but a few months (evergreens) and died. No warranty. They did however inform me that they did guarantee that when you left they guaranteed your plants to be healthy which seemed absolutely ridiculous and bit sarcastic. read more

So I really want to love Hewitt but the service is always lacking. I'm not sure why it is an impossible task to provide basic care instructions- each plant should have one! I always ask about air purification and safe non toxic options for dogs but the staff isn't knowledgeable. The selection often varies...today they had a lot in stock! The Boston Ferns were half off but after making the trek to green house #11 we only found dead (or dying) ones. I didn't see rocks for draining...I would like to see more hanging plant options. Overall I think Hewitt is good for large landscaping projects but if you are looking for a few indoor plants I would go somewhere else. read more

I had the pleasure of seeing a customer have an absolute meltdown because she couldnt return a plant she killed. Acted like they were making up rules as they go along, despite a return policy being posted pretty liberally around the register. i bet she goes to restaurants and asks for refund for food after she eats as well. I initially came here to give a glowing review on the customer service and knowledge all the staff has, but after seeing what I saw I also wanna praise their patience, lol. Anyways, they helped me pick out a Japanese Maple that is so picturesque it not only makes you tear up, but looks like how an angel would draw a tree in heaven. This place is great. I've been searching for a bird of paradise for a long time and I couldn't find them anywhere. A friend suggested to try here and luckily they had them! They let me know over the phone the price ranges, shipment days and any other questions I had. I arrived close to 10 before closing and I wasn't rushed at all. Friendly staff and reasonable prices! I got a well established Monstera for $35. My mom picked up a Calathea for $25 and a Pathos for $20. Obviously the pots are more expensive than the plants, but they are so unique you just want to buy them all! If I had a green thumb, or if I were in the landscaping business, I think this would be the place you would find me 90% of the time. Not only is it one of the largest landscape and gardening places I've seen in this area, it's almost like being in a botanical garden. Around 15 miles south of Nashville (that's just my estimate--I didn't actually map it) off Hillsboro Road, it's definitely out of the city which is one reason they are able to have so many acres of land. I enjoyed just walking through the "trails" between all the shrubs, trees, and plants that they sell. From what I could tell, it's not the cheapest place to shop for this type of thing, but I know these folks know what they are doing. There was a lot of traffic in the 25 minutes I spent there, from professional landscapers to little old ladies who were buying flowers and plants for their gardens. Great selection but vert pricey. I usually travel to Digger O'Dell in Memphis if I'm buying larger volumes. Last fall I wanted to buy 6 dense Yews and 4 Emerald Arborvitaes. I asked if I could get some type of discount for the purchase (over $2,000 purchase). Thet said they didn't give discounts. The next day I went to Diggers in Memphis and brought back bigger plants and spent $1,200. read more
