This place is the best! I had to come here multiple times because I made the mistake of getting my smog test a few days after taking my car to the dealer to have it serviced that included an engine "cleaning". What I should have realized was that I was supposed to drive my car for an extended period of time at highway speed afterwards before getting it smog tested. Albert explained this to me after failing the test the first time. The place is a bit hard to find on Woodley Ave. because it's tucked into a narrow alley, but it's worth finding if you need a smog test. Albert is kind, fair and explains things clearly. I showed him a coupon for someone a mile away and he at 39.95 and he still would not budge from 50. I was willing to meet somewhere in the middle. I rolled up for a regular smog test, but then we saw that my car was leaking gas. A lot of gas. It got all over the floor, and I had to leave my car with the garage next-door. The gentleman who runs the smog test place was so kind, gracious, and accommodating. I've been bringing my cars to Albert for about 5 years. He's very friendly and honest. You never get the feeling or impression that he is ripping you off or telling you something that is untrue. His shop is very clean and he gets the job done quickly. I've walked to get a drink and come back to find the test was done. I've also watched Wold Cup games on his computer while waiting. Your passing certificate gets sent directly to the DMV. It's really easy with no hassle. I've never had a car fail the check so I can't speak about retest policy. I always have an ominous feeling when I take my car in to get smogged - I have always had crap cars, that needed an extra "push" to pass smog. My newer car has been well cared for, and still, I was worried. I rolled into Hi-Tech, and 15 minutes later, I was out the door with a car that passed smog - no help needed! I then rolled off to get lunch, and THAT process took longer to get accomplished than the smog. Polite, friendly, honest ... as long as I work here, I'll be taking my car, and sending friends. *DISHONEST* Be careful of this place. Dishonest service. Came here for a normal smog test. Guy told me there were a bunch of things that needed to be fixed and shook his head like the car was about to fall apart (a 10 yr old luxury car that's been babied). Sent me to his mechanic buddy at 6810 Hayvenhurst (RS Auto Service). I'm sure they would have been happy to split whatever they made up to charge me for the "repairs". I know my car and I know there's nothing wrong with it. Went to another place a few blocks down and passed with flying colors. If you're told you need repairs - DO NOT BELIEVE THEM! I had just spend money buying a commercial truck and besides paying taxes, registration fees for it, DMV also tells you to performed a smog check for the vehicle. I hate the whole idea. I arrive early on a Saturday so I wont be an inconvenience to the staff, I mean the automotive industry is not always to friendly to women. He helped me move my big ass truck inside, complimented me on the purchase of the truck and gave me lots of great business advise.
