This is a serious smokehouse with some serious eats. The ribs were not only beautiful but tasty and smoky. The fries were amazing. We had a pulled pork sandwich and it was also amazing. I always get the Southern Sopes. The food is so good and the restaurant has a fun atmosphere.

This was a great overall experience. Friendly and welcoming staff from the start. Not your typical barbecue restaurant. Cozy atmosphere with a bar in the back and patio outback. We started with the southwest egg rolls, they were good, but the star of that plate was the sauce they were served with. It was sweet and spicy. I had the baked potato and added chicken. It was fantastic, loaded with green onions, pickled onions, house made pickles and queso and tons of chicken. It was a meal in itself and I really enjoyed it. Also got to sample the Mac daddy sandwich, mac & cheese was creamy and cheesy. Sampled my wife's sope, and it was really good as well. This is not your average barbecue joint, only regret is not trying it sooner. Will definitely make the 45 minute drive to come here again. read more

Now let's get down to the food I have several smokers and I cook ever weekend at home I thought my food was pretty good until I went to hickory hog. This is the absolute best bbq joint I have ever been to I tasted every meat they had and can honestly say it's the best bbq I have ever had. Prices were great for the amount of food you get. Great BBQ restaurant in Lucedale! The pork belly burnt ends are AMAZING! I love their different sauces with all their dishes, and my favorite dish is the southern sope! It's a huge portion full of flavors! They have a bar in the back that serves a great selection of draft beer and has TVs for sports games, and plenty of seating in the front with booths and tables. We have also gotten the dips shareable which is HUGE! Everything I have tried has been amazing, definitely a great addition to the city's restaurant scene! read more

Stopped by while in town for the first time. Fairly busy for a weekday. No wait to be seated and service was very fast. Looked to be a popular local spot for lunch. Ordered the Little but of everything sampler because we wanted to try as much as possible. It comes with homemade potato chips and a delicious cheese dip. Homemade pork rinds, spicy pickle slices, pickled onions. Boiled peanuts, a choice of 2 sides (we got fried okra and Mac and cheese), 2 ribs, pulled pork, pulled brisket, pulled chicken, sausage, and bread slices. Price was $45 for the platter but it can feed a few people and you can take leftovers home if you have any. They gave 3 BBQ sauces on the table, sweet, Original, and spicy. They are thinner tangy style sauces but still tasty. I prefer a thick sweet sauce but you do taste the smoke flavors of the meats best with a lighter style sauce like they serve here. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and had coffee next door at Lucedale Coffee, great also. As we sat outside we could smell the meats smoking and it smelled so good. Stopped here on our way from Texas to Florida on vacation. We were going to eat bbq in Mobile but decided to stop here instead and really glad we did. Everything was great. I had pork belly burnt end sope which was delicious. Never heard of sope before. Mac and cheese might be best I've ever had. Waitress was very nice. We were headed to another restaurant when we saw this place and decided to stop in. Let me tell you it was awesome! It's a cute hole-in-the-wall place, very charming and very clean. The staff was very helpful with what to order. I had the The Southern Sopes with burnt ends. It's a cornbread fritter, turnip greens burnt ends and a sauce. I am not a huge turnip green eater but I am now! The flavors in this dish are superb. We also tried their sample platter which was as also very good. We will definitely be back. read more
