After hearing the buzz and seeing Meat Boss featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, my wife and I made it one of our stops while in Mobile for the 2026 ALACTE Conference. I left expecting memorable barbecue. I left wondering what all the hype was about. The restaurant has a true down-home, hole-in-the-wall country smokehouse feel. The building looks like a converted home, and the patriotic, pro-America décor fits the barbecue theme well. Unfortunately, our experience got off to a slow start. We walked in and weren't greeted, which made for an awkward first impression. I ordered the DDD Burger, the restaurant's featured burger made with a half-pound brisket and chuck blend, rib candy, pepper jack cheese, and Spicy Carolina sauce. My wife ordered the Smoked Pulled Brisket on a baked potato with pepper jack cheese, butter, sour cream, White BBQ sauce, and Sweet & Spicy sauce, plus a side of banana pudding. For a sandwich that's been showcased on national television, I expected something that would justify the recognition. Instead, it was simply underwhelming. I didn't dislike it, but I certainly didn't get the hype. It lacked the flavor and wow factor you'd expect from a signature item. The sides followed the same pattern. The Boss Beans were basic, and the fries weren't as crispy as they should have been. My wife's loaded baked potato was also underwhelming. The White BBQ sauce and Sweet & Spicy sauce were both okay, but neither added enough flavor to make the dish memorable. Dessert didn't change the outcome. The banana pudding was fine, but there was nothing special about it. Ironically, the best part of our meal was the Coke Zeros. I want to try the burger! (Sold out both visits) That being said, I have had the rib tips and the brisket sandwich...both fantastic. Absolutely love the toasted sweet roll the brisket came on. The white barbecue sauce was sweeter than any I've had, but it was very tasty. This is the first barbecue joint that I've tried where I went back to the counter to buy their sauce (the white sauce). Unfortunately, they were sold out. The seasoned fries dipped in the white sauce are delicious. The staff is always friendly here. Comfortable and consistent service keeps me coming back. I wish I could give this 10 stars! I got the hamburger fully loaded with potato salad and my boyfriend got the ribs with beans and mac n cheese. The white sauce is to die for. A little runny but amazing vinegar taste. The ribs are slow cooked and so tender! Great rub on them! Mac n cheese has the shell pasta and loaded with cheese! Well I now have the best burger I have ever had, The DDD, named after Guy Fieri. Patty was thick and cooked to perfection and the candied rib, Lord help me. The sauces were very good. The white sauce blows away anything you can get in North Alabama. You order at a counter and they write your order out on a paper bag. My colleague and I sat outside and I know it was freshly cooked since it took a few minutes to get to us. The inside is unassuming as is the building but we did enjoy the outside seating. The baked beans were also good with shreds of pork mixed in. They had a slight spicy kick to them but was not overwelming. I highly recommend Meat Boss when in the area. read more

We went for my wifes high-school group that still get together regularly. The meats were awesome. She had the sweet potato with pulled chicken on top and Alabama white sauce. I had the pulled brisket on a round top roll with jalepeno jelly and sweet bbq sauce and fries. I really enjoyed my selection and the brisket was moist anf full of flavor. Her dish was very good but her potato was a bit over done but, tasty nonetheless. While we were there for the people, we found a lunch place that we will go back to over and over again. Me and my daughter went in yesterday to get some takeout to meet my husband at the airport and eat. Everyone was very nice. The lady at the desk was so sweet to my daughter. The food service was very quick. The prices were good! I did not look at the food until we got to the airport and sat down to eat. I got my seven year-old two sliders thinking they would be small. No, they were like full-size sandwiches! I got me and my husband, both a barbecue pulled pork sandwich with pickles and regular barbecue sauce. They were so big we could've shared one! They were absolutely delicious. We had leftovers and I just ate another one out of the microwave a few minutes ago and it was still just as good as it was yesterday if not better! The baked beans were amazing!! they have pulled pork in them. They were my daughter's favorite. She ate all of them. I got a quart of banana pudding. It was probably the best banana pudding I've ever had. Besides my grandma's! The Bottom Line: The Meat Boss is large and in charge when it comes to BBQ sandwiches. Would I drive over 7 miles outside Mobile to try some highly rated smoked meats? It does help when it's on my way to Biloxi. Walking in I was welcomed with walls adorned with license plates, and customer artwork drawn on the brown paper bags all their orders come in. Normally I order a plate of brisket to compare a BBQ joint against its peers but Meat Boss doesn't play like that. Instead they specialized in "make it your way" sandwiches. I ordered the pulled brisket with white sauce. The cashier suggested I also try the "rib candy." More on that shortly. Here's the rundown on my meal: Pulled Brisket: everything I wanted in a sandwich. The brisket was piled high and as a fan of white BBQ sauce (go Alabama) it paired well with the meat. Mac and Cheese: Your basic creamy macaroni and cheese shells. Potato Salad: Also in the creamy variety, a solid choice. Rib Candy: The cashier said this is what people travel from afar to get and I can understand why- it was the meat with the most flavor, a complex smoky and sweat combo. Maybe it was a good thing it was served in a small one ounce portion because I could have made that an entire side to my meal. What can I say? Visited this place based on several people recommending, was really disappointed. We had the brisket which was tender and well seasoned with sauce. Where this disappointed was the sides. They were below average for BBQ place. Baked beans were pork and beans from a can with some meat added. green beans were from a can with no seasoning at all. Potato salad was not seasoned and runny, potatoes were hard no taste. Cole slaw was the same no seasoning. Rib candy was delicious but over priced for what you received. Super cute & delicious! So thankful for Yelp!! We would've never found this place if it wasn't for Yelpers! On our way from New Orleans to Fort Rucker and needed some lunch. Searched for places off hwy 65 and came across Meat Boss. Knew when we pulled up we were going to like it here! Not too crowded at 1:15 on a Thursday so that was nice. Hubby and I both got brisket on sweet rolls. Then we each fixed ours up completely differently. He got a combo with beans and Mac n cheese. We also ordered the meat candy. And I got a chocolate chip cookie. Everything single thing we got was delicious! I ate half of the cookie before our food came out. Then we both polished off our sandwiches. I had a bite of the meat candy and hubby ate the rest of that along with some of his sides. He couldn't eat it all but wanted to try it all. In the mood for bbq and found this on Yelp. Reviews looked pretty promising so we decided to give it a try. Pulled up to what looked like a residential neighborhood to a little yellow cottage that housed the restaurant. The restaurant had some seating inside and picnic tables outside on the porch. Me and my husband were hungry after a long drive but decided to split the pulled pork sandwich with two sides. We added extra toppings slaw, pepper jack cheese, onions and pickles. We opted for the baked beans and mac n cheese for our side but had to order the additional banana pudding side for dessert. Your order comes in a brown bag lunch sack. How cool for the south. All the quality goes into the food and let me say it was all there and then some. The sandwich was large and had plenty of meat and the toppings were the perfect amount to compliment. We decided on the sweet and spicy and the white sauce. Both were excellent. The sweet and spicy was just perfect for me. Not to spicy and not to sweet but not to runny. The Mac and cheese was creamy and the cheese sauce was delicious. The baked beans were also very delicious. The banana pudding was tasty and just enough for the two of us to share. My regrets was that I didn't take any pics. We planned to stop by and get more bbq for our trip home. I have to say this is THE BEST bbq I have ever eaten. RUN DONT WALK to get yours. We have several people and all tried an each other's food. Loved the Rib Candy, Mac n cheese great, baked beans very good, fries nice and crispy, potato salad "white kind" mayo base I think was good. Driving from California to Florida you have to try different barbecue! Luckily for my son and I we chose "Meat Boss" about 10minutes off the 10fwy near Mobile. I ordered the pulled butte with fries and baked beans. My son ordered the pulled chicken (same sides).... These baked beans were to die for! So hearty. They could have been the main dish. My pulled butte was tender and juicy. No fat. I had the Carolina and Spicy Carolina sauces on the side. Both were very good but I liked the Spicy more. My son devoured his sandwich. The fries (baked not fried) were very well done! Not soggy or overcooked. Not too salty. We started a conversation with LeeAnn. She was a sweetheart. Talk about Southern hospitality. When she found out we were driving from California to Florida for my Coastie son, she brought us some traditional Alabama sausage and the Alabama sauce to try. You order your meat, what you wrap it in (bun, no bun, potato), sauce, and toppings, then your side. Have to agree with reviews get the brisket or pulled pork...delicious. For sides we had beans, mac n cheese, coleslaw, and banana pudding. All delicious. Beans had bits of meat, mac n cheese creamy, coleslaw great on sandwiches or by itself not to sweet and hubby said banana pudding was good and creamy. We will definitely be back.
