We have been with hicks financial for 10 years. Their communication hasn't always been the greatest but this.... Is beyond unprofessional We Had our appointment beginning of March to file our taxes. Had our appointment and everything was good. Colby finished our taxes and told us he'd call us right back. He never called. Found out in may they filed an extension. We Have been trying to call, email weekly. Finally decided to do a walk in they are no longer at their location. Continued to Tried to get update on taxes no response. HELD HOSTAGE!!! Dennis formed my corporation back in 2000 and had been doing my taxes for the last 22-25 years. Dennis was an amazing man and as long as he was in charge, everything was great. But now I can't get anyone from Hicks Financial Services to return my phone calls or emails, make my IRS & FTB payments, submit my Sercretary of State Statement of Information, or discuss future plans with my corporation. After several attempts I finally got my 2021 tax filing appointment, showed up and my taxes weren't even started, then it took them 3 weeks to complete them even though I requested a rush as I was buying a house and needed the tax return. We used Hicks for 20 years or so. He did my husband's business taxes as well as our personal. He was a friend. In the past 3-4 years, however, every tax season has been nail-biting time for us. One year, the deadline surprised them and they quickly filed only after we called. It was a concern then. We didn't learn of the passing of the principle until 9 months after it happened. We were saddened but still needed to get our taxes filed. Fortunately, Ski sent us the completed return, but it had "do not file" on every page. No one in the office could access the software to do the filing after the departure of Dennis, so it was panic time. Gradually all communications slowed and then stopped. We begged for the original return so that we could get it filed, but to no avail. We ended up downloading the forms used and transcribing the information from the return that was sent to us. We then went to a family friend who had a tax business to get it e-filed. I'm so sorry for the loss, but things have been degrading for quite a while and the communication was never good. There was usually an administrative assistant who would at least return emails, but after they were let go, it was very hard to get information from anyone. I know it was a panic for them about what to do with the avalanche of unfiled returns - both business and personal as well as a panic for all the clients. In my search for a replacement tax advisor, I am making it a point to inquire about their succession plan and avoid going with a lone wolf who could disappear at any time. Arrived to our appointment with paperwork on hand just incase, and we proceeded to wait for 40 minutes while they scanned the files that were sent to them, again, in January! No contact. No conversation until we walked up to ask for a status. Angel at the front desk could care less that they were losing new clients. Not really customer service oriented, not professional and not prepared. They clearly don't need our business and yours. It is now 6/30 and we still haven't heard from Hick's Financial. My wife looked into our taxes herself and found that there was indeed a mistake and the taxes were filed errantly by Hick's Financial. The IRS sent us a letter saying we owed an additional $1200+, but in fact they owed us an additional $400. My wife contacted the IRS and they agreed. DO NOT USE HICK'S FINANCIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They "might" contact you before they get your money, they will most likely file your taxes wrong and they WILL NOT contact you after they receive your money. read more

It took over a week just to return my phone call for an initial consult. A was then asked to make a phone appointment, which I did. When my phone appointment time came up, it was just for a receptionist who called me to ask for basic information that I already provided the first time. Why would I need an appointment to speak to a receptionist?? I then made another appointment to speak to an accountant by the name of Dennis. On the date and time of appointment no one picked up. I left a message and no one bothered to return my message. I colleague of mine who has an accountant there says it sometimes takes weeks to hear back for a simple question. Bottom line: Accountants are a dime a dozen and this one has poor communication. Better to look elsewhere with an accountant firm that is reliable. read more

I have been a client for the past 5 years and I was happy for most of it. However, one incident has erased all of that and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Namely, I had them doing my payroll tax filing but IRS says that they didn't receive a filing for a past time period. Hicks told me that they were handling it but 2 years later, I am still having to deal with the IRS directly for the late payment and fees totalling over $1600. I have called Dennis multiple times to find out what is going on and have NEVER gotten a call back. I would be surprised if I got a call from them even after this review. Dennis came highly recommended by the owner of my Real Estate Co so I met with him (he showed up late with no apology) I appreciated the feedback he gave me and he was very informative, I thought. I was surprised that, as we sat there, he tried to do my 2011 taxes without any of my expenses except asking me about mileage! Since that date I have attempted to reach him 4 times (5th time today) to follow up our agreement for him to form a corp for me with NO REPLY and even his secretary acknowledged "He knows you have been trying to reach him." Right off the bat, the office staff was extremely friendly. Kate nicely asked me to go check in when I walked into the wrong side of the office (oops) and even walked me over to make sure I got all settled in. Dennis did not keep me waiting, and provided me with apples and peanut butter to snack on during our consultation. The office is very neat and comfortable, and all my information was projected infront of me. I really felt that Dennis gave me 100% of his attention, and explained everything to me clearly. Beyond Disappointed. We have been customers with Hicks Financial for the last 7 years. Last year we noticed a significant delay with communications from Sarah with updates regarding our taxes. Due to our long standing relationship with Sarah and Hicks Financial, we decided again to use their services this year and hoped for a better experience. NEVER AGAIN. We sent Sarah everything she needed to file our taxes in early February 2016. We then sent 7 emails and left 3 voicemails throughout March requesting an update on the status of our taxes. All went unanswered. When we called and spoke to the office administrator, she seemed shocked that we were not getting any response, put me on hold and when she came back said she spoke to Sarah and that we were on her "call back list". She never called us back. April 6th we emailed her and said we would take our business elsewhere. She finally replied to that email with a curt response of "OK". Terrible service and if you choose to work with this group to get your taxes done, you run the risk of not getting your taxes filed! read more

I got my taxes done with them in 2008 and 2009. They were supposed to great with travel nurses who filed taxes in multiple states, and was happy with them because they were thorough despite being expensive. What I realized this year, is that they did NOT file my local taxes for PA , so I ended up getting a collection agency after me because I didn't pay my "dues". Not only is that horrible for your credit but I was charged $91 in penalty for 2009. Something similar happened in 2008, but I never dug into the matter because I assumed, I screwed up somehow and panicked when the collection agency wanted the $. I feel as though when you pay $300+ to get your taxes done by professionals, you should expect it to be done correctly!!!! I would not recommend them. read more

Hicks came recommended to me by one of my friends. I first called in August and got no response, I guess that should have been a sign. I called again in December, and they made some recommendations about how I should handle my payroll and my books before the end of the year. They agreed to do my bookkeeping going forward and handle my taxes, and did the books for 2 months (and I paid both invoices promptly), and then without telling me to expect this, they stopped. They also requested all my tax data, but didn't complete my taxes, and what's worse, they didn't tell me they wouldn't. I emailed twice to ask if they were working on it, they said they would get back to me, but didn't. Luckily, I know enough to know that *I* am the one who would get a penalty if I didn't at least have an extension filed, and I got that done myself instead of counting on them. I had to do it without knowing whether I was going to owe (getting that wrong can lead to more penalties), so my butt is hanging in the wind on this one. I even sent them another email time after the tax deadline to get an update, but still no communication. I hired them because I wanted peace of mind - that things were being done on time, and being done right. Instead it took away peace of mind, and left me having to chase them, and feeling like a jerk for asking just for our agreements to be met and leaving me at risk of penalties. :( read more

Paid Hicks to setup an S-Corp for my software consulting business. Everything was fine the first year. The second year I paid for payroll processing and no payments were made, and they simply didn't file my taxes. I was told an extension had been filed, and starting in September I repeatedly asked for status updates and was told everything was fine. October 15th passed, and they stopped responding to emails. Just forgot to file my return and then ignored me. Not sure what I ever did to them... I just now pulled myself out of the mess they created by hiring another accountant to file the returns they missed and shut down the S-Corp. read more

I have been going to Dennis for over 15 years. He was recommended by a friend who was also a Travel nurse. My first impression was " Man! This guy is so disorganized" and every time I see him now in his nice office building, I look at his desk and think the same thing. But then he works his magic..... Clicking at his computer and ignoring me..... "does this guy remember I am here?". He will eventually speak..... Usually to ask a few personal questions. "i havent seen this guy in a year, how did he remember that I went to Hawaii last August?". And that is when you first get to see a glimpse of that beautiful brain..... WARNING TO TRAVEL NURSES!!!! I had my taxes prepared by Hicks Financial Services from 2005-2008 as they were considered reputable and knowledege with tax laws for traveling nurses. I received a notice of audit by the IRS for 2007 taxes in November 2009. I contacted the accountant ((SARAH) who requested I fax her all forms, receipts, etc the IRS requested and she would compile a response (did not want me to send this). March 3rd a notice of payment due was received disallowing all the '07 refund plus interest as ther was no documentation received regarding deductions or form completion. The accountant never bothered to follow through agreement to respond on my behalf. I have phoned, e-mailed, faxed numerous requests to speak with the accountant who refuses to respond to any correspondence. Basically, I am left dealing with the IRS on my own. I warn anyone from this experience they will gladly take your money but don't expect ANY help when you REALLY, REALLY need their assistance with an audit by the IRS. read more
