Came here at the end of September looking at artificial Christmas trees. We found one we loved for $799 and said we would come back in November to buy it. We came here today with the full intention of buying the tree and it was marked for $899. I went to customer service and showed them my original photo and asked if they could honor the price I saw a few weeks ago and was told no. We walked out and they lost an $800 sale today. The woman on the floor even told us that they typically raise their prices around this time of year because more people need trees. So unfortunate. read more

I grew up in Westbury in the late 1950's/early 60's. I always knew "Hicks" and my folks purchased some things over the years. However it wasn't until a few months ago I actually availed myself of their services. We purchased, with the help of several employees of the Nursery Planting department, a fairly diverse grouping. The delivery was scheduled and 2 weeks later went off without a hitch. "Pepe" and his crew arrived well within the time frame given to us. They were very patient as my wife and I positioned the plantings and were incredibly efficient in the actual installation. It looks even better than we had envisioned. This place is awesome aaa nursery. All of their staff is knowledgeable. The plants are well taken care of etc. Something happened there the other day that I just have to mention. My car broke down in the parking lot. Just loaded all of my plants into the car and bam, engine would not turn over. Brought all of my plants back into the store, called AAA, and went to sit on their patio furniture in the back room. This is a great place to get plants for any time of year. Everyone is very helpful and they have a huge selection! Every time I come here to get vegetables for my garden, everything grows and comes out beautifully. I am always impressed. They have certain events especially during the holidays. Christmas time there is so many things to do with your kids here. Trees, gifts and such. There is a lot of parking and they also have a commercial location next door. They have good sales and prices. Oh my god! This place is so magical during the holiday season and my kids love it. It has everything you need to decorate for Xmas. Large selections of inflatable/outdoor decorations for different sizes and fit different budgets. Lots of plants and indoor decorations make this place a one stop shop for Xmas. The animated Christmas story section is awesome and my kids enjoy reading the story so much. They decorate the place with heart and passion. The Santa is so patient when taking photos with the kids. Best nursery in LI! Plus with the new renovation at the entrance, it looks so much better and more modern! I've been coming here for years and am always finding new plants to bring home for both indoors and out. Their stuff can be pricey for sure such as the planters, patio furniture and garden decor , but I think the plants are pretty well priced considering how beautiful and well maintained they are here. They have a larger spot for unique/rare plants now which they get every so often so that's much appreciated! Even if I don't end up getting anything (doesn't happen too often haha), my mom and I love strolling through and admiring all the beautiful plants. read more

I came here to see the holiday decorations and santa claus with the little ones. It was kinda of hard to find parking on a Sunday afternoon in December but I found one. We walked in and it was winter wonderland. The decor was so beautiful that I automatically felt jolly. We went to go see Santa but the line was way too long. People actually dress up to take their christmas photos here which is cute. They also have a free animated show for the kids for Christmas. The prices on the merchandise is a type pricey. The first time I called I reached a woman who told me that they really only want projects over ten thousand and she put me on hold and told me to call back Monday. Any time or day. I can run here during the week/end in the morning or evening and it'll always have a crowd (not necessarily a long line always). This place is great to visit when starting a garden or a landscaping project since they have so many variants of plants/ shrubs/ flowers/ fruits/ vegetables/ decor etc.. to work with and fit your style. Be ready to pay the price though as they do tend to be more expensive than some other local mom and pop nurseries. It's beautiful to walk around here even just to browse but you'll always leave here with something in hand! It's hard to find help here in terms of customer service but when you do find a worker, they aren't too bad. They're more so good at directing you where to find something. My dad accidentally killed my succulents because he was watering them every week with the regular house plants, meanwhile I stuck to my 2-3 week plan with the plants. Needless to say they didn't survive and my dad got a gentle scolding. After quite a few bids for our landscaping project, we chose Peter at Hicks for our project. We couldn't be happier we did. He designed our front and back yard. He took into consideration our ideas and what we wanted and with his expertise showed us a plan that incorporated everything we wanted and more. We love the layout and after a year it has really grown in nicely. His Hicks team was hard working and did a great job in some real heat that week. They say that if you like planting and gardening then you have a green thumb. Me, I don't have anything even close to a shade of that color. My mother on the other hand, has at least one opposable of the verde variety and so on Mother's Day, we took a trip to Hicks. Well, Hicks wasn't our first stop. As a tradition, I usually shop for flowers with my mother, but most of what we purchase is found at Home Depot. For whatever reason, they didn't have a great selection this year. That's when Hicks became a factor. I hadn't been to Hicks in years, possibly not since I was a wee lad and saw Santa and Otto the Ghost (if you've been here around Halloween, you know what I'm talking about). Checking things out from a more mature standpoint, I was blown away from the amount of flowers found. Seriously, they had everything my mother needed and more. Beyond the flowers, there's so much outdoorsy stuff that you could probably spend a full day going through it all (if you're into the landscaping scene). The only dilemma I find is with price. Yes, you'll find exactly what you're looking for, but the cost might make you consider just waiting (or doing without it). Example, my mother always needs dracaenas for her planters. These can often be found for about $3-$4. At Hicks? $6.50 a piece. Let's just say we waited on those. Besides that specific producer, the rest of what we purchased was totally reasonable, and so we find ourselves in the four star range. Overall, Hicks has been around since I was a kid and I highly doubt it's going anywhere. Yeah, pricing isn't always the best, but if you need something for your yard/garden/grass/lawn/hills alive with the sound of music then you'll find it here. Green thumbs aren't necessary to see what's special, but it might help. read more

This place is so lit, everything is so cheap and you can really knock off many items from your wishlist. I bought a massive 10in Philodendron for only $20 and 10in Adonsonii for $25. I've also bought 6in Ficus Ruby with 5 plants inside for only $15. Hands down best in New York. read more

They truly have a lovely selection of gorgeous items. Hicks is very expensive; prices are very high. You do get what you pay for. What's concerning to me is the poor level of customer service. I visited yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon; - Overall Staff are lazy and not keen to help. They seem to go out of the their way to avoid customers. Many, if not all staff appear angry and disgruntled. The guy working in customer service scared the heck out of me, with his angry demeanor towards me. I didn't feel welcome. Many of the workers appeared clinically depressed and unwell. Not sure what's going on - but moral is very low. read more

I love this place! They have everything from all types of flowers, herbs, trees, fountains, statuary, you name it! They have everything you'd want and need for your garden or home. Depending on the time of year, they have flowers and plants for the season. It's really soothing when you get deeper into the nursery. It's like you're walking into a botanical garden. Everything is organized and healthy. Not like some places where you have to reach for the ones in the back because the others looked messed up. The prices are reasonable here. The employees are always busy with watering or getting more plants out on the floor, so they are short with you when you ask for help. That was the only setback of the place, but if you knew what you wanted, you can easily find it yourself. I bought so flowers herbs and even a statue the time that I came here. Went with my family to pick up a Christmas tree and to get photos with Santa (crazy long lines), but there was a live brass band playing holiday favorites, and I picked up some plants for my house. Great selection of all sorts of plants, including a clearance succulents shelf. Picked up a bunch of stuff and a few died after repotting, but I think it's my fault as I don't have the best track record. They also have more pots than I've seen anywhere else.
