Booking was alright but limited since most people book way early and for next year, the website shows pics of booking spots which is nice to see but not usually as accurate when arriving to camp spot. Luckily when I went it was funtastic, hot weather with cool winds, camp spot was alright but more rocky then grassy for my tent placement selection. However, I brought enough gear which I prepared for camping such as a hammock, bbq utensils, disposable dishes, cups, food and water just to enjoy the stay. Note: Always bring sweats, sweaters, blankets and sleeping bags because it gets extremely chilly at night. Bring clothes according to the weather and appropriate shoes for hiking or hot weather, I'd say one park of beach sandals and hiking shoes. Washrooms are readily available which is nice, with showers (hot) free, and has a outdoor washer for cleaning dishes. Parking lot is limited to campground however the beach/lake view has large parking areas. Be sure to review their map for activities which is updates monthly, there are plenty of things to do such as the theatre which is a learning centre. Their website contains specific bookings for their programs too that include stargazing. Be mindful that this is also a national park, meaning there is an entrance fee and depending on your camp stay you'll need to pay for those days too per person. See website for more info. https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/index As for wild animals just be cautious, follow the guidelines mostly seen from the brochures upon entrance fee. Take your time to visit the tourism spots and nice picnic areas. Recommended for first time campers or camping goers. Trails for hikers, people who like to camp with friends or family. July is the best time to swim later months lake is algae infested. I would definitely come back here again. At night the beach view is amazing when sun goes down almost romantic as the night stars appear. It would have been spectacular if I camped when the northern lights were at its highest.

We camped in a travel trailer almost every weekend this season (many times extending the weekends). On occasion we would spend full weeks there, leaving was always sad. The campground and facilities (Park, washrooms, camp sites, ...) are all very well maintained. We use full service (Water/Sewer/Electric) and never had any issues. Every morning we see staff walking down the roads and into empty campsites cleaning up any garbage / debris that may be visible. The camping season in Alberta is just too short and we are glad we invested in Plamondon White Sands. We arrived May long weekend and plan to camp until late September. The rules in place are more than fair and provide a safer environment for families to enjoy their experiences. I am very thankful that there is a strict speed limit enforced, this makes things safer, quieter and keeps the dust down. We are very thankful for the new ice-cream machine (My kids are spoiled with the number of choices), it's a great way to cool off on those hot summer days and also just to treat yourself (we are on vacation after all). We have made life lasting friends at the campground both with the other campers as well as the staff. During the start of the season I did not have the correct socket to insert my hot water plug, fortunately the staff were more than willing to help! I have borrowed ladders, and other misc. tools throughout the season. The staff in the office are always friendly and knowledgeable. The security guards are very friendly. Every employee (whether there delivering wood, cleaning recycling/garbage bins, cleaning washrooms, watering the road, office administration, security, etc...) always wave hello and ask how we were doing. It just makes everything more comfortable. I think the resort is family owned and run, and it shows as everyone works together. The community of Plamondon and Lac La Biche also has a lot to offer families including the Pow Wow Days, and Mud Bogs. Fishing on the lake is very enjoyable, I have caught several Pike and Walleye. Depending on the wind direction, swimming can be hit and miss, but we did swim a few occasions and loved it! Froggers in Plamondon server great pizza. Next season we are told Plamondon white sands will be completing a mini golf course, we are super excited to return and continue the memories. Thanks for the memories Plamondon White Sands!

Laundry facilities available, Campground Hosts are always available and friendly. We arrived and started to set up, and the 30A socket on our spot was damaged and scheduled for repair, so we visited the Host and they offered us a choice of moving to any spot we wanted (it wasn't particularly busy right now) or the option of a 30-50A adapter. They happily loaned us a 50A dogbone adapter at no cost. Wasn't expecting sewer hookup at our site, but it was a nice surprise. There is a dump site which we took advantage of Roads are packed gravel, and parking pads as well, but the spots in A-D are grassy and well maintained. Area E-F is untreed and sites set up in a tighter pattern. Beautiful flower pots & baskets at the entryway, and the layout of the campground is logical and easy to find your spot. The wood delivery to your site is a welcome treat... the host has a little work 'Deer with a tip bin that drops it right at your fire pit! The trees are still on the smaller side, so there isn't a lot of shade - bring your own! The fish pond is lovely and has a shelter/gazebo with picnic tables for group gathering. Cute tip - each fire pit is designed specifically for your site - laser cut with your site number, and in the shape of a nifty UFO... St. Paul is the only place with an invitation for UFO's and a landing pad site in N. America.

Elk Island National Park is one of my favourite spots to visit…read more The park has many hiking trails ranging from a few kilometres to over 10. So definitely a variety for all fitness levels. Hiking can be done read round, and snowshoeing in the winter. The park has a visitor centre at the south entrance with Parks Canada staff, who are very welcoming, professional and very knowledgeable about the park and the wildlife. Speaking of wildlife, Elk Island is the home of bisons, which have been introduced to the area many years ago. They are impressive beautiful animals, that I've seen up close and personal (from my vehicle). They are impressive park also offers camping at the Astotin Lake area, but also backcountry camping. The park is a short hour (or less) east of Edmonton, and it is absolutely one of the best areas you can go to in Alberta to enjoy the outdoors, outdoor sports and activities, and wildlife. Ell Island National Park is also a dark sky area, where you can enjoy a starry night sky!!!

The showers were a dollar. And mostly sufficient for what you get. They weren't great showers. And full of bugs. The door was often propped open. Probably because there were issues with the code. The sites were nice. The staff were welcoming. Ice cream sandwiches for $1.50. There is an on-site spray park for the kiddos. It requires a nominal fee, but probably not so bad for keeping the kiddos busy.
