We had an amazing experience with High Country Trails. Our guide was so helpful & gave us great tips on each specific horse. E.g. one specifically liked playing in water, one really liked the cow's molasses in buckets nearby, some had a little bit more sass than the others, etc. The little tidbits that she gave for each horse was a clear indication that the staff & owners cared for and loved these horses - this is enough for any animal lover to want to support this business. It also made it easier to connect with and understand our horses to make the experience more enjoyable. HCT was otherwise fairly priced & reasonably understanding if customers are running late. The trails were beautiful and unique. The dogs running along with us were entertaining. I couldn't have asked for a better time! Note: They have a little outhouse on the side, but unless you're ok with those, be sure to use the bathroom before! read more

I'm a single dad with two kids and finally able to afford a mini vacation for us at Shadow Mountain Lake. We had some mishaps on this trip including getting a flat tire on our way to High Country Trails. By the time I got the spare on and got there the group had waited a reasonable time and we just missed them. Hayden was in the office and after hearing our story grabbed a horse and got us saddled up and then caught us up to the group. This was above and beyond! We arrived early for our trail ride and the owner and guides allowed my daughter's to assist in leading the horses in to the corral to get them ready for the ride. The horses are well taken care of and very well behaved. The actual trail ride was amazing. Guides were patient, pointed out some great scenery and wildlife, and were very encouraging throughout the entire 2 hour ride. Thanks for making our first trip to the Rockies memorable! read more

They put my horse and I in a dangerous situation that resulted in a bad fall and significant injuries and a hospital visit. Be ware. I should have left the moment they admitted the horses fight and try to race each other on the trails, which was the exact circumstance of the accident. I'm lucky I wasn't trampled and I didn't have a spinal cord injury. They did not provide helmets. They did not call 911, I was left in a field for a half hour in a lot of pain and then asked to stand up and get into a four wheeler. No radio communication, not enough trained staff, zero emergency preparedness. Go elsewhere! read more

This was a horrible experience. Our leaders had no idea what they were doing and we had a large group with only two leaders. One of the leaders horse ran away and they told us to follow and there was a big struggle trying to find them. 3 people fell off. One was dragged behind because her foot was stuck and her saddle wasn't tightened. Another fell off because their saddle was also not tightened. And somebody else was bucked off. The horses were horribly untrained and weren't listening to anyone. The trails were very steep and kids were screaming the whole time. Trees were way too close to the edge and nobody gave any directions on how to control you horse. I personally don't think I'll ever get in a horse again. read more
