Came on a weekday late morning, not too many people, plenty of spots to park. Trail to High Falls wasn't too steep, pretty flat, a bit wet and leafy but nothing too bad. There was a spot to see the waterfall from the trail and it was pretty cool, and there's also a trail that goes down to the waterfall to get a bit closer. Worth a stop, short and sweet hike!

If you are looking for an easy hike with a big reward, this is trail is for you! We arrived mid-morning on a Sunday and it was not as crowded as we expected. Plenty of parking was available at the trailhead, as well as bathrooms. The hike can be completed as an in-and-out or as a loop. We opted for the loop so we could take in Triple Falls as well.

The hike to the last waterfall we visited was FANTASTIC! The view was stunning and a lot of great photographic moments! The hike it self is not bad but there are a lot of up hill and down hills! Get there early (8 AM or earlier) if you want to avoid the crowd and not be rushed for your photos! Enjoy my photos :)

The high falls trail is an easy to moderate hike in some areas. Having a bad left knee and right ankle disability, using walking sticks really helped me. We did the loop to triple falls and high falls. The view is beautiful and so majestic and peaceful to see.

We went up to High Falls and it's beautiful! There are several trails to take and the sound of the falls is so relaxing. The falls themselves are beautiful and breathtaking. Definitely worth the trip if you are in the area!

Since I first created this page, HIGH FALLS has continued to be one of the most amazing waterfalls in the South for casual hikers! It is the pinnacle of Southern waterfall trails because you access multiple waterfalls from the same parking lot + there are also amazing overlooks along the way as well as a gorgeous covered bridge. ITINERARY (from Atlanta) If you are looking for an amazing way to spend a day in nature consider this route: * Take Hwy 276 to Bald Rock Heritage Preserve for an impressive view from a graffiti-covered granite outcrop. * Next drive to Caesars Head State Park for yet another AMAZING scenic view. Be sure to walk through Devil's Kitchen while there. * Continue to High Falls. Along the way you will see the parking area for Raven Cliff Falls, which is roughly a 4-mile round trip hike. I would only do this if you start your day early & have energy to burn! * Otherwise continue to the High Falls parking area off Stanton Road. From here you can access High Falls, Triple Falls & Hooker Falls; a very satisfying series of waterfalls within a 2-mile loop. * IF you have more endurance, you can cross High Falls Covered Bridge to access Grassy Creek Falls, and if you want even more of a challenge, continue to Wintergreen Falls. * Typically I like to end my day by traveling to downtown Greenville for a restorative and then to Falls Park on the Reedy to relax. TIP: A fantastic side stop if you have time would be the view from Fred W. Symmes Chapel. ~ A story I shared in my previous review involving this waterfall and a very special hiking trip: THE SCENE (2013) I am a strong believer in helping others. We as a family are by no means rich, but we do what we can for people. 'Silver and Gold I have not', but caring for others doesn't always involve the exchange of money. Your time, knowledge and resources can also be of great value. A septennial ago, a single mom with 4 children moved into our home. Shortly after we took a planned road trip to Greenville SC without them. Upon returning, they were very eager to hear all about the trip and view our pictures. There were lots of oooh's & ahhh's, but I also detected a sadness. I made up my mind in that moment that I would take the kids on a similar adventure. So, the following weekend I made time to take them on a 'guys getaway'. In the past I usually didn't allow video games to travel with us (unless traveling in cold climates), so I had to be very creative in entertaining my children on a modest budget. Waterfalls and hiking are the perfect way to spend quality time as a family for little to no money. The Carolina's have hundreds of waterfalls within 3 hours drive of my home, so we'd take every opportunity we could to leave the city for weekend of exploration. THE EXPERIENCE The boys spent the weekend climbing rocks and jumping from boulder to boulder pretending to be action heroes. It thrilled me to see them playing and using their imaginations instead of gathered around a video game. I got to be a weekend dad to these boys and give them an adventure they may not have otherwise experienced. Along with my 11-year-old, we spent 2 days touring the mountains surrounding the City of Greenville, SC. We toured a total of 6 waterfalls, 7 points of interest and hiked 9 miles of trails. The smiles on their faces would have been enough for me, but my most heartfelt moment came after we returned home. They were so excited to share this adventure with their mom that the conversation was barely understandable as they each spoke over the other about the trip. Their mom's eyes swelled with tears, a moment I will not forget. Doing something to make another person's life better is a good feeling. POINT OF MY STORY This is not a tale of self promotion, it is a hope that through being open, others may be inspired to step out of their comfort zones. Men, we've got to find time to ensure the next generation of men will be better than ourselves. So many of us look back and wish we'd had strong male guidance. If you know of a single mother with boys, make plans to give her a day or weekend free of kids and take her boys on an adventure. I don't know of a single mother that wouldn't be thrilled to have a man (she knows) do this for her sons. It could be hiking, a baseball game, a fishing trip or even helping you build something. Showing them someone cares and creating a positive life experience will mean more than you or I will ever know in the long run. UPDATE ON STORY: We took the trip in the spring of 2013, their mother died of cancer in the fall of 2018. We didn't know she was sick, so the trip mattered all the more. 2020 / 60

Waterfall Stop no 1 on our hike, High Falls Beautiful, Boyfriend and I stopped for a while to enjoy the moment and to take a few pics with the selfie stick (this was definitely his favorite part). Then we headed down the hill to hike towards High Falls base. This is my second favorite waterfall in DuPont State Forest.

We visited the day after an exceptionally strenuous hike. We wanted to see some falls but didn't want to work too hard for it. Turns out, High Falls is a great option for that! Dupont State Forest is an easy drive from Asheville, with trails for hiking and biking and horseback riding. The most ample parking area that we were able to find was at the High Falls Trailhead (which was where we were headed anyway...how convenient!). Hooker Falls looks to be very popular as well, but that could also be because its trailhead is closer to the entrance, before the visitor's center and parking lot for the High Falls Trailhead. It was a lovely day, and the park was very busy. But we got a great parking spot. We stopped in at the visitors center to see what information they had, as well as to utilize the facilities before heading out to the falls. The trails are well maintained and easy to follow. I wouldn't necessarily call them easy, as they are rather steep at points. But with enough time, most activity levels should be able to get at least far enough to see the falls and back. And High Falls is beautiful! Grander than I expected, and lovely to see. There were people down near where the falls pool in to, but we could not figure out how they got down there. I would have loved to have sat down there near the water for a while and just enjoyed the view. In all, the trail and falls are beautiful. It is an easy, maintained trail. Uphill a lot of the way but gravel or well-tamped down. It does appear to be a heavily trafficked trail, by both those on foot and on bike, so keep aware of your surroundings. But it is absolutely worth a visit!

DOV: Saturday, April 14 @ 3pm This is a great little hike to take to see three nice waterfalls up at Cedar Mountain. We started at the visitor's center and made it an 'out-and-back' trip so we could take in all three falls in one shot. All total, if you include the covered bridge, the walk is about 4.5 miles. It's an easy walk in because it's all downhill, but some might find the hike out rather taxing in places. I would rate the uphill as moderate, not too bad. We started down the trail and came to the covered bridge path to the right where you can go over to the bridge and get a nice view over High Falls. You then walk back out to the main trail and continue on down where you get a great view looking up at High Falls and the bridge you just came from. Continuing on down you come across Triple Falls where you can walk down a steep flight of steps to the river at the foot of the falls. Next, you continue on to Hooker Falls. The walk from Triple Falls to Hooker Falls is some distance down so you have to be patient as it takes some time to get there. There is a parking lot near Hooker Falls and a lot of people use it and come in from that end of the trail rather than using the visitor's center access. Once you have enjoyed the falls and the forest and you are ready to head back to your car, you should motivate yourself for the hike back up the hill, which is constant all the way out. There is one place that is a bit of a handful but the rest is just a moderate incline, not too bad. There are many trails in the surrounding area to take advantage of. You will see cars on the side of the road all over. Dupont is a real treasure that is not far from home, and if you are clever you will finish your hike just in time to roll into Brevard for some really good food! And Asheville is just a few more miles from there. Lots of places to go and things to do.

I gotta admit that I was a little confused about high falls. See, I kinda thought high falls was part of triple falls when in fact High falls is its own separate waterfall, resting above triple falls altogether. We started our hike, which really is a walk, to high falls from the Aleen Steinberg Center. The trail is paved initially, fairly flat, and not long at all. I encourage you to visit the covered bridge first, about a 0.5 mi departure from the main trail Why? Because you'll be at the very top of high falls (you get here by taking the trail that leads to the covered bridge), and you get to see the really cool drop off of high falls, which is kinda cool I gotta tell you. After you're done, go ahead and back track the way you came and you'll eventually come across a clearing that gives you a nice view of high falls. You'll known it's high falls because you'll be looking up at the covered bridge that you just came from. I DO wish the falls were flowing more than what we saw, because I saw more rock face than water, and I was told that in some cases, the entire rock face was covered by waterfall....wow that WOULD be impressive!! And that my friends, is the end! If you like, you can continue on down to view and hop out onto Triple falls (and I highly recommend that you do not turn back at this point), which will net you a just under 3 mile hike. Nice waterfall with lots of exploration potential. I wish we had more time to really do this hike justice, but i'll definitely be back for more exploration!

Soooo worth the trip. Had a blast. Parking can be a little hard to find but off street parking was plentiful and not far from the head of the trail. We did see a group of lamas!!!

Very easy hike! Just make sure you go on the easy trail of course ;) Three waterfalls trail and it's free but donation is recommended. You can be lazy and actually drive, park, and walk over to Hooker Falls(parking area is below a narrow bridge) and then drive over to the main entrance to hike an easy trail for the other two falls.

A bridge near the parking lot.

Hiked up to Triple Falls from this lot. A gorgeous park and trail. This area has a nice visitor center and restrooms.

The exact GPS location is 35.200645, -82.643481, but if you are skilled at reading maps, the waterfall is located just north of where the East Fork of Laurel Creek merges with a lesser no-named creek or about 500 feet south of where the East Fork merges with the main Laurel Creek. There is no hiking required to view the falls, but if you wanted a closer, more in-person pic at the base it would require a fairly easy goat scramble down the semi-steep roadside embankment. Different hiking websites claim the falls to be anywhere from 30 to 50 feet. However, using the topography lines on AllTrails I have calculated the height of the waterfall to be approx. 47 feet tall from top to the lower cascade. The main two tiered fall itself is approx. 35 feet tall with another 12 feet of cascades from the base. On the day I visited the falls it had rained 4 of the previous 6 days, so the falls were full and beautiful! FINAL THOUGHTS This is not a typical destination waterfall, but it IS an excellent bonus stop when touring the larger high volume waterfalls in the area such as nearby Triple Falls, High Falls, Hooker Falls and Raven Cliff Falls. You could also visit the spill wall of the Cascade Lake Dam approximately 2.25 miles north of Merry Falls on Cascade Lake Road. It is built in such a way that by itself it is a beautiful drive-worthy waterfall. ENJOY!!! 2021 / 42

We went to Triple Falls first, which was a doable hike for the kiddos and took us to some really nice views of the falls. We had packed a lunch beforehand, and took that lunch then to Hooker Falls, which has some calmer waters at the base where people get in to swim and play. There is a smaller sandy beach area with shallower water which was good for younger kids to play in. It was refreshing to jump into the water after a morning packed with hiking! Again, the Hooker Falls Access seemed like a popular spot, so plan to get there early to secure a parking spot!

We hiked to High Falls and Triple Falls (both beautiful!), which I would say are moderate-level difficulty due to the inclines & some portions of the trail are loose gravel. Easy for The Hubs and I, but a tad more of a challenge for my in-laws. There are some spots with rocks just the right size to sit on and have a rest if you need a break. There are restrooms at the High Falls trailhead parking lot, and a gift shop. I'm not sure about restrooms elsewhere in the park.

There is an overlook on the Batson Creek side that faces Carson Creek, however, it is only accessible from a private trail in nearby Connestee Falls Subdivision. Thusly, the best view you will get as a non-resident will be from this nicely constructed boardwalk. The boardwalk hangs over Connestee Falls, so your view is very limited. Batson Creek Falls is visible, but not in its entirety as trees block most of the upper half of this nearly 100 foot tall sliding beauty. Topography maps show the elevation around Connestee Falls dropping roughly 65 feet before merging with Batson Creek Falls. Sliver Slip Falls is nearly impossible to see with the exception of the crest. [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] A staff member from our hotel told me about this waterfall and I'm so happy he did.
