So glad we made it and saw it twice. We r definitely first time hikers and this was a doozy. We thought we were doing the easiest hike - High Falls. We parked next to it, and when we got to a certain point it said to High Falls twice so guess what, we picked the wrong way. We ended up finding the triple falls which were spectacular but we refused to back track bc the incline and decline were so steep for us. Well oh fun! Not really we ended up at the way opposite side of where our parking was. So, we had to go back up again and go back the other way. This felt so horrible, but we made it, and the positive thing is we saw Triple Falls twice!!! Since I'm a first time hiker, I know there is others out there. Where good shoes not flip flops. I did see people in cheap flip flops and I was like damn. Many serious hikers have their hiking stick. Luckily I had two umbrellas bc I thought it would rain. That seriously helped me walk. At the end of the triple falls you will get to a flat area, and you can take your shoes and socks off and wade in the water. That was amazing for me.

Heading to Asheville for a sports tournament we took a 35 minute detour and headed to a beautiful EASY hike. It was worth the drive and the time spent. I highly recommend heading up to the trail head and taking it in.

Came on a weekday late morning, not too many people, plenty of parking. No good viewing spot for Triple Falls since the viewing area was closed, but it's still worth a stop for a short and sweet hike!

Great moderate hike near Asheville! I am an avid user of AllTrails and this hike is very highly reviewed. We got here before sunrise and the parking lot was empty. There is a restroom there which is convenient. It was a little foggy but it cleared up when the sun started coming up. We hiked and saw Triple Falls, High falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. They were all beautiful and the covered bridge was also cool. The only part that was challenging was the first part which had an incline that you had to power through. Everything else was easy. I wear hiking boots and I highly recommend wearing proper gear. We had the place to ourselves but on the way back it was getting busy and especially at the lookouts. The parking lot was full when we were leaving so make sure to get there early.

The parking is atrocious - very few spaces and weekends beyond full. Not good! Get there mega early if you go! The bathrooms and water fountains were all not in service & port-a-potties were gross. The trail itself is very well maintained & lovely. But it's not easy, not sure where that rating came from. It's very steep. We only hiked to the second falls viewing then back, as we had to park illegally & wanted to check the car. If you can go during the week or at dawn & avoid the crowds, do that. There were so many people around us at the viewing area, we couldn't walk around freely. Super pretty place, but details make this frustrating on any weekend.

Triple Falls, one of the three waterfalls we visited when we hiked the DuPont Recreational Forest trails. The view was just FANTASTIC! If you're looking for great photos of yourself and family, you'll have to come and hike to the falls! Highly recommend you to get there early like 8 AM or even earlier if you're going on a busy weekend. It will get crowded throughout the day and there were many families go there to BBQ. If you want to avoid all that and just enjoy the nature before all the loud music and loud noise from other people, go super early!!!

We took our two dogs on the high falls, triple falls, hooker falls loop. It was a good hike. There is a pretty serious incline after triple falls on the way over to Hooker Falls. I would recommend parking at Hooker Falls and starting there and the hiking to triple falls and the high falls and return. There was a couple of muddy spots, but that's to be expected in spring. The falls were all beautiful! Worth the effort! Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a snack while hanging out on the rocks at either Triple Falls or Hooker Falls!

Beautiful views of the falls, well maintained and overall nice scenery. Just be ready for a 45+ degree incline for 5-10 minutes to reach the upper views from the hookers falls access.

Waterfall stop no 2, Triple Falls Hands down my favorite waterfall in DuPont State Forest, it is simply amazing! I also love that you can walk out onto it.

How can you not love a hike that you can see multiple beautiful waterfalls from? For me this was easy hiking in a most beautiful setting. It was a busy trail, so if you are looking for solitude - than you might want to pick something else. Very large parking lot, but people don't know how to park and we had to do a 38 point turn to get out. As for the trail you can see 2 large falls right off the bat if you go left from the parking lot. These falls even have nicely made stairs to get you down to be up close to the falls. You can make your hike 9 miles or skip the out and back to decrease it to a 5 miles loop. Again, undemanding hiking if you ask me and I have bad knees. There are plenty of spots to take a rest and take great photos. It also seems there is a great swim-hole just off the parking lot as well. After our hike was done we walked down to check it out. There were lots of people hanging out, kayaking and floating.

Trail is well-defined and maintained. It's designed to be wide enough for a vehicle, which makes it great for an easy walk for a toddler or a mother carrying that toddler. There are nice wooden steps that take you down to the middle of the falls (the landing of the 2nd). Triple Falls is worth the hike, especially since the hike isn't terribly strenuous. You should pack a picnic and clothes that can get wet, especially if you're going in the summer months, as there is plenty of area to wade in and enjoy. You'll want the break before walking back up the hill if you're coming from the visitor center.

    Beautiful view of the falls.

This is my first review and hike of the trailhead at DuPont State Forest. I spent the day hiking with my wife and two young daughters. We had an amazing day taking in the beautiful sights of the falls and all the trails had to offer. We parked at the lower parking area and chose to hike all the way to the top making it to the upper falls and the covered bridge. We also walked the extra distance to visit the welcome station where my kids got to learn fun facts about the park and see a large scale topographical map of the trails we had hiked. We were glad we had chose to hike up first therefore making the hike down much easier. For inexperienced hikers or someone looking for a shorter jaunt to the falls, you can drive up to the top and park at the welcome center. From there it's an easier walk to the upper falls and bridge. We are looking forward to going back soon and exploring additional trails we missed the first time around.

So much better than a BOGO, Triple falls gives you three distinct waterfalls that truly combine to make one waterfall. Along various portions of the trail, you can see all three of the falls at once, and you have to see it to believe it! We began our hike at the parking lot that houses the Aleen Steinberg Center. The parking lot (Free parking) holds a fair amount of cars, but on pretty days, a spot can be tough to find! The trail goes from the steinberg center and is marked well with signs at forks/intersections along the trails, making it pretty difficult to get lost. The wonderful thing about the trail is it's not very long, clocking in at a grand total of about 2.5 miles in and out, if you include the high falls and triple falls trail. Another added bonus is the great majority of the trail doesn't have very many steep hills. There's one or two steep kinda gravely inclines, but they don't last for very long, and we saw hikers of all ages navigating up and down the trails with ease. You have two stops to make where you can see a grand clearing of all three portions of the Triple falls, a view you really have to see. Hold on though, because you're not done! Continue walking along the trail until you come to a set of stairs on your right. This leads to a flat area of triple falls, where you can walk out onto portions of triple falls to get close for better pictures, or have a picnic while sitting next to the running water. You can FINALLY go back up the stairs and go to the very base of the falls (go down the rock surface of the trails at your own risk...this is dangerous, just saying!). I DO wish that water at the falls were flowing as powerfully as i'd been told they would, but that just means I get to come back to see triple falls again! Definitely go see this beautiful place, enjoy yourself, don't be stupid (no, seriously) and have fun!

Forgive me selfie police! I thought maybe I'd take one for a change!

It's about a 0.6 mile drive up a very gravel, windy road to the dam. Only one car can fit the road so once you drive up to the dam, you have to carefully reverse your car to make a save U-turn. This place hasn't been taken care of in years. The trees are so high and leafy that you can't get a clear view of the dam. You can definitely hear it and feel the mist. It was honestly worth the drive for me, coming from Orlando. We don't get much dams or don't have any dams at all. I hope this place gets taken care of soon. It's too beautiful to pass up, but also so dangerous to risk driving up the gravel. The neighbors will definitely eye your car when driving to the dam. A beautiful sight to see though with the farm land and mountains.

One of the things that makes it so outstanding is the natural setting it is located. Part of the dam uses the natural cliff surrounding it, giving it a little character when the waterflow is high or low. PRO TIP - There is a sign posted saying no trespassing near one of the two goat trails to the top of the dam from the road, so you might want to think twice about climbing down. However, if you do there IS a metal rope to help with the steepness of the trail on the right. Just know the dam is easily photographed from the road without illegally trespassing, although I don't quite understand how it is trespassing when you can literally kayak to the dam from Hooker Falls! [ THE LAKE ] The dam is said to have been built more than 100 years ago and the surrounding property has been owned and managed by the same family for most of that time. A battle over the will & testament of Charles Pickelsimer has left the lake, dam and even a campground in peril. Some websites say the dam is in need of inspection, but nothing has been done as the court battle raged on between Pickelsimer's children whom contested parts of the will. Charlie's father is said to have built the dam as well as started an electric and telephone company. You can still see an old wooden tube now damaged and decayed, but once upon a time it send massive amounts of water downstream to a mid-1900's hydro-power plant. [ THINGS TO KNOW ] Total Hiking Distance: 0 miles (roadside) Difficulty: Easy to see from the right spot on the road Creek Crossings: NO Elevation Gain: n/a Waterfall Height: 40-50 feet approx. Access to top of falls: YES (but may be considered trespassing) Access to base of falls: NO Pool of water @ base of Falls: YES Sitting areas @ base: NO RESTROOMS: NO PARKING: YES (room for about 2 cars along road) [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] CASCADE LAKE is where all the water from nearby Hooker, High and Triple Falls flows to become impounded by CASCADE LAKE DAM. It inevitably continuing its journey down Little River and eventually joins the massive French Broad River that flows through the heart of Asheville! From there it makes it to the great Tennessee River and butterflies kisses the Northwestern tip of Georgia before eventually releasing into the Mighty Mississippi and then Gulf of New Mexico. Just a fun little geography journey for those of you who wonder about the "Eastern Continental Divide" signs scattered throughout the area. All the water that falls on the east side of the divide flows toward the Atlantic Ocean while all the water on the western side of the divide flows toward the Gulf of New Mexico. 2021 / 49

MERRY FALLS is a beautiful roadside waterfall found along the gravel portion of Cascade Lake Road…read morejust outside the boundaries of the beautiful & rugged Dupont State Recreational Forest of North Carolina. The exact GPS location is 35.200645, -82.643481, but if you are skilled at reading maps, the waterfall is located just north of where the East Fork of Laurel Creek merges with a lesser no-named creek or about 500 feet south of where the East Fork merges with the main Laurel Creek. There is no hiking required to view the falls, but if you wanted a closer, more in-person pic at the base it would require a fairly easy goat scramble down the semi-steep roadside embankment. Different hiking websites claim the falls to be anywhere from 30 to 50 feet. However, using the topography lines on AllTrails I have calculated the height of the waterfall to be approx. 47 feet tall from top to the lower cascade. The main two tiered fall itself is approx. 35 feet tall with another 12 feet of cascades from the base. On the day I visited the falls it had rained 4 of the previous 6 days, so the falls were full and beautiful! FINAL THOUGHTS This is not a typical destination waterfall, but it IS an excellent bonus stop when touring the larger high volume waterfalls in the area such as nearby Triple Falls, High Falls, Hooker Falls and Raven Cliff Falls. You could also visit the spill wall of the Cascade Lake Dam approximately 2.25 miles north of Merry Falls on Cascade Lake Road. It is built in such a way that by itself it is a beautiful drive-worthy waterfall. ENJOY!!! 2021 / 42

White table cloths and a beautiful dining room made for the perfect ambiance! We were slightly worried about our kiddos not dressing super fancy and in ball hats, but it didn't matter and we felt very welcome.
