I have had all of my questions and transactions handled by the owner Steven, who I have found to be a knowledgeable, forthright, direct, and honest audio dealer. I only wish he'd cut me some dollar slack on the used stuff as he is a tough negotiator on price. All in all, I cannot honestly criticize the manner in which I have been treated, the processing of my transactions, or the products I have received, and I have spent almost $10k there over the last several months. Steven Javaherian is a rip off artist. We did work on a couple of amps he needed done urgently as the customer was waiting on them. he paid via credit card and after we had shipped the amps to his customer he reversed the charges on his card. He still owes us 4000.00 We will not work on any equipment he sells, either for him or for anyone who purchases from him. read more

My experience with the owner is reflective of the majority of other reviews here. The way the owner conducts business is not normal for today's standard. He makes promises he already knows he will not keep. This happened three times over a single transaction. Someone stated here in their review that once he receives the money, everything changes. This is not made up. He will infuriate you with false promises and act nonchalant as if he never wants to do business with you again. So I paid for item .3 days later he said he couldn't send it cuz it needed a new chip.A week later he said wrong chip was sent. I found an ad online (attached) on his website for an "excellent" Krell KPS 25SC for 5999. The ad said it was recapped. I bought it. When I called the following Monday, I learned it was NOT recapped - it was "going to be" recapped. Major red flag. I also wanted a video functions check showing it working. Steve eventually sent me a couple of photos of one board that had been recapped. I showed them to an expert who pointed out numerous problems with the recapping. After not getting proof that the unit worked, Steve finally admitted the laser mechanism skipped and he was working on it - sadly a well-known and common problem with these units - original laser mechanisms for this model near impossible to find. I bought it expecting it to be excellent as advertised. Steve talked about finding a laser unit possibly overseas or with people he knows. I was not willing to wait possibly months and have my claims timeframe with PayPal "cook off" and not be available. Bottom line - the unit was NOT excellent as advertised. I was able to get my money back as I used PayPal and submitted a PayPal claim, explaining the situation. PayPal reviewed the claim, found in my favor and refunded me. read more

Purchased a pair of monoblock amps, took too long to ship them out initially. FedEx lost one of the amps and HPS was difficult to get ahold of. After talking to Steve it turns out it was FedEx who was difficult to talk to and lost the 95 lb package. He has done all he can to help fix our issues. read more

Steve is a nice enough guy, however, the business is a mess. His 'tech' or 'engineer' is either non-existent or a moonlighting day laborer because the work advertised on the web ad is either fictitious or was never done. Everything is 'freshly recapped' or 'factory inspected' or 'upgraded' and none of it is provable. Even worse, the piece delivered ends up being a dusty garage sale item that was clearly never opened. Full market prices for less than pristine audio. As a one man operation, getting the piece back to him for ''my tech to take a look at it" is a forever (back & forth) process that could put you and your stereo budget out of commission for a few months. I was without a stereo for a solid 3+ months. I can appreciate a guy hustling a living- I made the mistake of giving him a chance (or two) to make it right and after a lot of unanswered calls, texts and emails, it took him two months to even get the NON-WORKING amp ("the tech went over") back to me and another month or so to get the money back (through a PayPal chargeback). Pay through PayPal if you have to do business with HPS, but know that you're most likely not going to get what he advertised. read more

Avoid like the plague. I spent tens of thousands of dollars with Steve on what was described as mint equipment only to receive it scuffed, stained, and in the wrong boxes (all of which I was left to discover on my own). I spent thousands more having the equipment shipped and specifically asked if the units needed to be inspected by the manufacturer prior to arrangement of freight shipping (which he insisted they did not). Simply attaining the address to have the equipment collected took several texts and phone calls. Steve was completely passive and unresponsive when concerns arose. This distinct change in behavior came about right around the time he was paid and became more evident once I received the equipment. The most expensive unit was very poorly packed using the incorrect box of a different piece of equipment with several empty USPS boxes stuffed in on the sides as "packing". There was virtually no support for this 150lb piece of valuable equipment. Once I got around to unboxing it (I was having a rack custom-built so I left it in the box until the completion date neared), I noticed some sticky foreign substance wedged into the edge of the face plate and around the power button, a series of scuffs and scratches around the body, and what appear to be stains of some sort of liquid across the face plate. Another unit was improperly leveled to sit on a flat surface with no apparent way to correct it. These are just the cosmetic and exterior mechanical issues. I have no idea what the manufacturer might find under the hood. Servicing these pieces normally begins in the thousand-dollar range. It didn't take but a few seconds for the followup conversation to escalate after he became defensive and obnoxiously rude. This isn't a business. It's a one-man horror show. Now I'm stuck with inferior goods that I have to pay to ship back to the manufacturer for proper refurbishing and service along with whatever service fee I'm charged plus the return shipping costs. What a loss. High Performance Stereo is completely unethical, grossly negligent, utterly dishonest, devoid of any integrity, outright disrespectful, and should be shut down. Easily the worst and most regrettable experience with a merchant I've ever had. It's almost impressive how much of a dumpster fire this so-called business is and somewhat ironic that the business hasn't even been claimed by the owner on Yelp. read more

Avoid at all cost. I took a Bang Olfsen BeoLab 1 speaker (MSRP $12k) to be repaired. After very poor communication and a very poor attitude , the owner Steve would never take responsibility for his engineer and when the speaker would be ready. When I finally collected the speaker 2 weeks , the speaker was damaged , the speaker grill ripped and as he has no way of testing the speaker , it was still not working but he took my money. Purchased an expensive second-hand Naim Superuniti. The shipping box arrived partially open and poorly padded. Missing were the wi-fi and bluetooth antennas. Perhaps damaged in shipping, the unit would not program nor play properly. HPS did arrange to have the unit, still under warranty, serviced by Naim but only after significant pushing and prodding. Two months later the amp was returned to me, fixed, but it took several more phone calls to Steve at HPS to eventually get the missing antennas. Steve at HPS did what needed to be done but with very little enthusiasm. You have a choice, shop elsewhere. read more

I don't typically write reviews unless my expeirence is terrible or excellent. Thankfully, in this case the latter. I made a $3600 website purchase for a unit that was MSRP $5,999. The condition was described by the dealer as "dealer-demo 9/10" It was shipped to my house earlier than expected and arrived in 10/10 condition. I don't think it was actually ever unboxed. I read some scathing reviews from other buyers after my credit card was charged and i admit i was a bit nervous awaiting my delivery. Had I read those reviews before my purhcase was complete, it's a good chance i would have backed out of the transaction. Thankfully, my expeirence was 10/10, actually exceeded my expectations in some ways. I'll continue doing business with High Performance Stereo.
