We had our opportunity and went for it in visiting The Wilds and others in the area. We visited on a Saturday for a Sunset tour. Dinner is cooked up in the kitchen there and provided buffet style on the deck overlooking the fields. The food was good. Shortly after dinner a thunder storm blew in quick with some strong winds. Being from the west coast we rarely see these strong storms. We sheltered in place for a while. Whe the storm had passed through those of us who stayed for the tours were treated a wonderful upclose tour and stunning colorful sunset. We returned on Monday to stay in one of the hurts for a few nights. There are about 12 yurts yurts overlooking the fields of some animals with a wonderful view. A very good Dinner and breakfast and an open air tour are included with the stay. After visit time around the fire pit. I woke up early one morning to find the takin along the water and some taking a swim. Everyone staying in the yurts enjoyed sharing the stories of their tours and checking out the views from the various yurts. There are the 2 tours for the visitors. The wildside tour is an upclose ride in the back of a truck which can leave the road to be up close to the animals. The open air tour is an open air bus which stays on the road while still getting to see the beautiful exotic animals. There are bison, Asian and white rhinos, giraffes, takin, camels, and so many other animals with all of the babies. The tour guides and whole staff is so knowledgeable about the animals. Ready to answer all of the visitors questions about the animals. Everyone has their favorite animals that enjoy seeing around. We are talking about a return visit to check out the new lodge.

Went on a Saturday around 12, started to get pretty busy around 12:45-1:30. Which makes the…read morecave/cavers very tight to walk through. While your down there your using a provided map to guide yourself around and match the corresponding areas ( Ex; A to A or 1-1 ) We went after it had just rained the night before, so everything was VERY wet. Wear waterproof/walking shoes if you plan on exploring. Be prepared to get dripped on by very cold water coming off nearby rocks, and the "ceiling". Coming down the initial very steep stairs is a beautiful view of different levels of rocks decending into a tunnel/cave where the rest of the cavers are. Tons of puddles all over the ground from collected rain water and the "droplets". Most the areas are about big enough for one person to walk through the tunnel areas at one time, and if your a larger person i DO NOT recommend going down there. Some areas are extremely tight and really only accessible to someone under 4'5 and around 100 pounds or less. (Im 5'4, 140 and some areas i almost got stuck cause it was too tight going through the rocks. It is neat to see though, i dont think id want to do it again as it is just wet rocks and the furthest tunnel was closed from the previous year that occurred from some heavy rain water. (The water collected, over time causing a collapse). So that was kind of a bummer but i get it for safety reasons. The gem mining was fun, definitely loaded with a lot of "gravel" type rocks so that was new for me, Ive only ever had ones with dirt/sand that yield rocks/gems/shark teeth. We found some really interesting gemstones in each tray. The petting zoo was great. I thought it wad Going to be boring and smelly, and i was happily wrong. The goats were adorable, when we came in a baby jumped through the fence and was following our group. And when we came inside the "pen" to pet them he ran back in it was very cute! The deer were a little skittish but very sweet and gentle. The treasure hunt/maze was VERY fun we enjoyed getting different prizes snd trading them within the group.

It's mostly comprised of goats with a few pigs and Zoe the cow "Queen of the barnyard!" It's not exactly conducive for people in wheelchairs. It has a lot of gravel which can make it challenging when you go into the petting zoo. The restrooms are NOT handicap accessible. Which was annoying but we had a work around thankfully. My experience was a five star, but the lack of handicap parking and all the gravel and no handicap accessible bathroom. I have to give it a 2 but because it was so much fun I give it a 5.

The ladies who give the tour are dressed up adorably to fit in with the time period of the mansion. They are knowledgeable and informative and are happy to answer any questions about the mansion and the spirits that reside in it. The hidden Marietta tours are one of the main reasons why Marietta, Ohio stays on top of my favorite spooky cities to visit.

Above ground, they have turned the area into a very nice park area with a shelter house with picnic tables, a small playground, and a gem mining area, plus plentiful green space. The restrooms are clean. The visitor's center houses the ticketing area and gift shop. This is a very nice place to explore!

Also a stop at an Amish home which you are quickly ushered through (but get to see how they live) to the quilting area where you can purchase quilts, etc. The quilts are made right in the home, and while very expensive this family does take layaway. We passed buggies on our journey as we drove along the back roads. We learned a lot about the Ohio Amish, which are apparently different from other Amish communities I have visited in the past. If you are in the area, book the tour. It is well worth your time and you will learn quite a bit.

The admission fee of $10 is well worth the price when you consider what it takes to upkeep the house and all that is in it. The self-guided tour begins with a video of the history of the house. You can take as long as you want to walk around the house and then sit outside on the porch or walk around the grounds. The workers inside the house will tell you as much as they know. It's interesting to see that the items in the house are original to the house and NOT gotten from other homes or antique stores. This family saved everything from letters, to books to run the plantation, trinkets, toys, and furniture. Well worth a visit here. I especially enjoyed reading the few letters that they had copies for reading. I hope that they will eventually scan the letters and compile them for reading as they reveal history through the eyes of a family in a very troubled period of time.

The German Village Haus und Garten Tour is held the last Sunday of every June. It is sponsored by the German Village Society (and of course, the gracious folks who open their homes to the public). Tickets can be purchased in advance. But keep in mind, walking tours are available practically year round. Just pop into the German Village Meeting Haus, 588 South Third Street, to catch a 12-minute video and pick up a guide to the historic district. The 233-acre neighborhood is the largest, privately-funded historic district in the country. It's a neat place to wander around.

As for the home tour here in German Village, it was very nice. Having friends that used to live in the village, I've had the opportunity to visit several of the area houses during and after their transformation... I love the historical feel and the effort made to preserve the essence of the area!! Why only 3 stars??? Well, as I mentioned at the start of this, I've done this sort of thing before. I love the intent of the fund-raising activity, but I feel the price of $20 per person is ... a BIT much. Had it not been for Groupon offering $15 for TWO tickets, I would not have attended. So glad I did not shell out $40 to stand in line or well over an hour at each house. They're nice and all, but way to crowded. And to stand in line for that long to only see 2-3 rooms on average in most houses..... When I did this a few years ago, I totally loved the experience of meeting and talking with all the people who had actually paid money to come look at my house. It made all the work and effort worth it!! Here in German village, I met only one single owner... REALLY??? Anyway, it was a good onetime experience, as I will probably not attend this again.

Hocking Hills State Park is simply magical. Once you step onto the trails, it does not even feel…read morelike you are still in Ohio. We are so used to the rolling hills, corn and soybean fields of the Midwest. It truly feels like stepping into another world. We visited on a Wednesday - after the busy summer season - school back in session. I was surprised to still see quite a few people around the main attractions, especially Old Man's Cave, Devil's Bathtub and Cedar Falls, but once we moved farther along the trail, it became quiet and very peaceful. We hiked approximately for seven miles. The trails are marked with color codes on the trees but what I was missing where clear signs along the trail. It was difficult at times to determine if we where still on the right one. We ended up taking a wrong turn at one point and ended up on the purple trail instead of the red one we originally wanted to hike. But still - it was honestly one of the most beautiful hikes I have ever done. Hiking always recharges my soul, and this place certainly did that. The rock formations, caves, waterfalls, moss and forest scenery are absolutely breathtaking. That being said, some portions of the trail can be challenging. There are steep climbs, uneven ground and areas that can become slippery from the moisture and moss. At times, we had to steady ourselves on rocks or trees while climbing. Good hiking shoes are an absolute must, and be sure to bring a snack and plenty of water, especially on a warm day.

Wow is this a beautiful state park!…read more We went hiking on a Saturday which was crazy packed, but it was still stunning to home through gorges. Everything was beautiful! One downside is that they had stinky compost toilets even at the visitor's center.
