Christmas 2025 came in with a loud boom! A tree fell due to the high wind during that aweful storm, sheared the power pole to our home and ripped out our electrical lines eminating from our weatherhead on our home. The roof was also slightly damaged. PG&E came over on December 26, 2025, handed me a business card for High Sierra Electric and Generators (HSE). He said to ask for Edison. I called that night and Edison called me back early on December 27, 2025. He showed up with his crew, removed our bent weatherhead and carefully removed our wood flashing protecting the electrical conuctance pipe. They installed the weatherhead and fixed our roof in 4 hours! We called PG&E and said we had weather damage and PG&E came out that afternoon and restored power! Under no circumstances would I recommend doing business with this company, even though they are the only Cummins certified generator people within 75 miles. This all happened two years ago, but I am just now having time to write about it. Edison, the owner, is a real piece of work. At first he appeared to be reasonable and helpful, but he insisted on bringing two technicians to the job, charging "only $135/hr" for the 2nd tech. When he was supposed to come back out for the third visit and do some repairs, scheduled just before the first snow of the winter (at 4000 ft), he insisted that we needed $1600 worth of parts (which I approved), but then refused to come out because I wouldn't authorize the 2nd tech, based on having checked with Cummins' and them saying that the only repair that would require two techs would be a complete rebuild of the engine, which was not what he was doing. (I later heard from someone local and close to the family that he brings two techs because he doesn't know much of anything about generators.) I was 68 then and my husband 79. Edison knew that we were off grid, and no one would be able to get to us for quite some time, as there was a lot of snow predicted for the coming couple of weeks that winter. He knew his lack of response could potentially endanger our lives, and still, he refused to send anyone. We had a most miserable and dangerous winter, risking life and limb to try and stay warm with NO source of electricity. Even when I called him back between storms and begged, and approved two techs out of desperation, he refused because a neighbor of ours had written a bad Yelp review about the incident. I had the neighbor take it down, but Edison still refused. It took months to get him to ship the parts that we'd paid for to me, as he refused to let us come and pick them up. Also, I could never get a receipt for the $1600 worth of parts - most of which were not needed and we still have. He claimed to have emailed the receipt to me twice, but I never got it. I asked him to print and send it in the mail, but he refused. We finally got a break in the storms and got over the hill to Reno to get a smaller generator that would charge our batteries (solar) and give us a minimal amount of electricity so we could have lights, ignite the water heater, and use the washing machine. We ended up paying nearly $2000 in April for the West Sac Cummins folks to come up, check it out, and - get this - replace the propane hose with a bigger one. (Most of the expense was travel time.) He claimed that our site was unsafe (there were a few blackberry vines around the generator shelter - I sent him a photo after I removed them - attached), and he held us responsible for the bad review that our neighbor had written. He had a customer service rep for a short time, who tried to help repair this relationship so that we could have a local repair person, but after she heard both sides of the story, she either quit or he fired her because she maybe thought he was wrong. (If you end up having to deal with him, whatever you do, DON'T disagree with him.) I can't say for sure what happened to the customer service person, but our communications ended abruptly and I found out she no longer worked there. If you are going to buy a generator, Cummins is a good one. But you'll be stuck dealing with this self-righteous, opportunistic clown, or paying big bucks for the reasonable and well-trained folks to come up from West Sac. And if you have a bad experience, please report it here AND to Cummins Corporate, which I will do in the near future. This guy should not be allowed to interact with other human beings. In fact, he told me that he really prefers doing work for corporations because then he doesn't have to interact with people. Poor thing - emotionally damaged somehow, for sure. But there's absolutely no excuse in this world or any other for the way he treated us. So, here's that bad review he was holding us responsible for. And every word is the truth. read more

He and his team travelled to our remote location and fixed the generator in a short amount of time. They even brought propane as there was none available onsite. We just put in a new standby generator and had a problem with the transfer switch... I contacted another local authorized electrician to repair it and was told that I had to wait 3 weeks for a service call. Then on the morning of our appointment, they called to say that (due to the coronavirus outbreak) all services were on hold and they would call back later... Frustrated, I sent Edison an email describing the problem in detail. He responded immediately and we got the issue fixed the very same day. He was very helpful and didn't ask for any compensation... Hence, we will be using High Sierra Electric for all our future generator needs. read more

1n 2019 Edison promptly came out and quoted me a ridiculously high quote for a Generac. I reluctantly agreed and gave him huge deposit. He delivered generator and then I had to call him for 3 weeks to get it hooked up. His assistant did a crappy job on propane piping and it was leaking the next morning. I had to fix it myself. Quality product, poor service with a cocky attitude. Wont use them again or recommend. Shop around. read more

My standby generated stopped running its 20 minute weekly battery charge cycle. I noticed this on Sunday and I was leaving on vacation early Wednesday. I left them a message Sunday, they returned by call the same day. Monday morning they called and had me scheduled for a service call that afternoon. They arrived and fixed the generator problem and even replaced my two spark plugs for free. I was able to leave on vacation Wednesday with no worrying about the generator not running if needed. I rarely give small businesses a bad review because I like to support local entrepreneurs, but when a local business takes advantage of its customers I feel that I need to alert others so you don't get taken advantage of like I did. I contacted High Sierra Electric for a minor repair to my whole house generator. When Edison learned that he was not the person who installed my generator, he seemed to immediately have a negative attitude towards me. I would have called someone else then, but his name was given to me by Cummins generators as one of the only certified Cummins repair people in the area so I felt I had no choice but to accept his condescending attitude. He told me that any repairs to my generator would not be covered under warranty even though the generator is less than 2 years old (and less than 160 hours) and I would need to pay for his drive time from Grass Valley to Colfax to come service it plus parts and labor. I agreed and after another call he finally scheduled an appointment and came out. When he arrived at my house, Edison immediately handed my husband a clipboard agreeing to pay him $380, which he said was for two hours to drive the 16 miles from Grass Valley to Colfax and back. This was before any work was performed. He was there for about 15 minutes, said he would order a part and left after collecting the $380. I never heard back from him and and after 3 weeks I called him to see if the part arrived. Again he had the negative attitude as if I was bothering him. I had to call him a few more times. Bottom line: he wanted another $300+ for labor plus $100+ . I found out from Cummins that my generator is still covered under warranty so I'm not sure why Edison kept insisting that it was not and acted like it was a big hassle to repair my generator. I expect to pay for people's time but anyone who lives locally knows that it doesn't take 2 hours to drive round trip to Colfax from Grass Valley. And I don't understand the attitude, lack of response and why I was told that my generator was not covered under warranty. I think the owner is probably too busy to help anyone other than his regular customers where he did the installation. read more

Edison had installed my generac generator in the summer of 2018, this piece of equipment has performed fantastically! Because of the recent snow storm we had many many trees down on banner mountain and I was out of town while the power was out for 4 days, I didn't know my generator should only run for a few hours at a time not for days! Although this company doesn't usually make house calls for portables the technician was very kind & helped me discover what was going on through questions & pictures texted to him. His advice extended beyond the immediate problem with guiding me through the process of proper repair & maintenance all the while engaging in some witty remarks along the way. We had them install our whole house Generac several years ago. I thought they were very expensive at the time but my husband had no problem. We needed them to restart ours during this recent power outage. I called that evening and the next morning. My husband called the next day and emailed that day also. Now 8 days later still no call. On their message he said they were catering to seniors and ill customers and I mentioned that we are seniors but not ill but we have a lot of animals to take care of. I think it is totally inexcusable not to take the time to return a phone call if even only to say we are swamped and give a referral. You guys should be ashamed not to return a phone call to a senior couple dealing with these power outages. Just today I got my first chance to say no don't call high Sierra. Complete D-bags! I called a few times and got an answering machine, called back the next day and finally got a live person. I asked a general question about a transfer switch because I'm looking at getting a standby generator. Guy tells me "I can't tell you without looking at your system" which is complete bs if he'd listened to the question. Then he tells me "I saw you called a few times without leaving a message" I told him "yeah I'm not into leaving messages." He tells me "well we're not into answering questions over the phone." This kind of d-bag attitude is a direct reflection of the nature of a business during times of feast vs famine. With PG&E shutting down our power in the North State everyone is clamoring for a generator, it's times like this that a business's true colors stand out. Clearly, when High Sierra feels they do not need to provide good customer service they will probably tell you to go f yourself. Looking back I was way better off talking to their answering machine than the tool that answered the phone. read more

Absolute Crook. Took my brand new rv in to have them look at the generator that was acting up based on DeMartini RV sending me there. So many things went wrong but the main thing was that he supposedly did 650.00 worth of work to a generator that was running. We never got a quote from him and he just replaced the fuel pump, hoses etc. We never got an oral estimate he just did the work and held our rv for ransom...nor did we get the used parts back when we asked for them and the generator pretty much works the same. He says he spent 6 hours on the generator which I find very hard to believe. Even worst...He did the work on Monday...I had to call on Tuesday to find out what he discovered might be wrong. He called back two hours later demanding payment of 650.00. Then we simply wanted to call the Dealer on a new rig who sent us to him to find out if they were paying for it or if I was. It was literally hours after the job was complete and he would not stop harassing us for payment. Simply put...I doubt he even did any work and he threatened to lock up our rig for two weeks if we didn't pay him way too much money that he did not quote us for. The other thing is we caught him lying about many things including he said the dealer told him they weren't covering it....Which was totally untrue because I was in the dealers office the only time they spoke and the dealer told him they were submitting the bill to the builder of the RV. read more

I have a Kohler generator which had failed. I called High Sierra looking for the part. The person who took my call, took all of the information needed to be able to order my part. One week later when I still had not heard from them, I called back, only to find out they don't sell parts. Why couldn't their employee tell me this when I first called. I highly recommend High Sierra Electric and Generators. I used them to install and maintain my generator and could not be happier! My generator is ready to go whenever the power goes out and it does frequently in the winter time in my area. High Sierra has been schooled by the generator manufacturers so they know what they are doing and have their Vans well stocked with all the proper parts necessary to properly service your generator. They are friendly, and will call you back when you call them and actually show up on time when they tell you they will! You can't ask for anything more then that! read more

These guys came out to service my Kohler generator for a specific problem. They charged me around $300 for a standard service check but did not remedy the problem. I called and talked to the owner and told him that the service techs knew ahead of time why they were coming out but instead of addressing the specific issue they simply performed a routine maintenance service. He said he was not responsible. They didn't even notice that one exhaust pipe looked completely new (paint not burned off on an 8 year old genny? Hello!) and that this would indicate the generator was running on only one cylinder. When asked about this, the owner said it probably needed a valve adjustment. My Kohler doesn't have adjustable valves you muttonhead. When I brought up the idea of providing quality service as good business practice the owner replied, "Are you threatening me?" Woah! Steer clear of these kooks. read more

Their trouble shooting process is to simply replace everything! VERY expensive. When my RV was returned they had failed to recognize that once they had opened the propane line all of the gas fired stove, refrigerator and water heater would not work without bleeding. They never checked them and did not care when I called it to their attention! VERY crappy service- will for sure tell all my friends to never use these guys! read more

In an emergency situation during the last storm here in Grass Valley this past spring, a tree came down and damaged the electrical conduit coming into the house. Being it was an emergency, I contacted the first electrical company in the yellow pages, High Sierra, explained the situation, and they sent a crew of two to fix the problem. They did a good job, but when they were finished I was told this, "We have good news and bad news, the county didn't have to get involved (good) but the pricing for such work is flat rate, $1,200 (bad, VERY bad)". That was for no more than 3 hours work which equates to $200/hour per technician. This was the first time I heard how much it would cost. Upon further investigation, had I gone to the second company on the list, it would have been $500. I sent two communiques to the owner in complaint and he didn't even have the courtesy to respond to either request. Talk about poor business practice!!! Customer service - the worst! Fair pricing - even worse. Stay away folks. You can get better service for much less by going elsewhere. I was ripped off big time and I plan to tell as many people as I can just how badly I was treated. Pathetic is too good a term here. read more

The folks here were wonderful! They TOTALY went above and beyond to fix my electrical problems and my generator in my motor home van. And the personal customer service is the best. I depend on my van for work in the Bay Area on the weekdays and the generator was dead and there was several power drains that NOBODY could find (myself included). This made the van unuseagble. So, my wife went to drive it over there and it broke down on the side of the road. She called to cancel the appointment and they offered to drive over to troubleshoot it or work with the towing agency to get it over there (she actually just ran out of gas and needed to switch the tanks). Once we got it there, they tracked down the power drains and checked in with us every step of the way constantly letting us know how much time was into it and how far they got. I know my way around electrical so they kept explaining exactly what they where going to do and provided me with the option to do certain simple things myself if I so desired (put in a terminal, etc). What I liked is that they looked at it from a customer spending/function standpoint. This van is old and has had a LOT of tinkerers wire in all kinds of things over the years so frankly it was a mess electronically. I really didn't think anyone would take on the job frankly. They focused on the cost and prioritized according to my needs. When it came to the generator, it had several things wrong (switches that were cracked and broken, rotten filters, a fried circuit board, carb gummed up, etc.). Then, knowing I really need it on the weekdays, they arranged their technicians to be there on the weekends. Sure enough, by Saturday afternoon, they had it all ready to go, installed it - all done! They walked me through what they did, how to care for the generator, maintenance, operations, the works. Throughout all the work, I never had to shell out money for a hotel because I was able to use the van every weekday thanks to the fact that they worked around my schedule. The van is like a new motor home to me. No draining batteries. Generator starts right up purrs like a kitten so now everything works (air conditioner, micro wave, etc.). A week later I even got a follow up call. They wanted to check up on their work to make sure it wasn't draining down anymore and it was working as designed!
