We needed a new electrical panel installed since ours was 1970's vintage. I found Bob somehow on-line and then did some background checking. He received rave reviews. Granted, he's in Grass Valley but he came down to Carmichael to do the job. Now, when he shows up, he isn't in a starched white uniform - he's dressed to work! He gave us an estimate and we gave him the go ahead. He contacted SMUD and got the process rolling. It took two days (1st day installing - 2nd day fine tuning) and he and his apprentice worked in 102 degree heat. He also made sure the unit was compatible with having solar panels if we wanted in the future. They did an excellent job. I highly recommend him for any Residential or Commercial Electric job. Bob is the best!! We called him on a Friday night when most of our house lights were flickering like crazy a couple weeks after a bad winter storm knocked our power out. He was able to swing by, assess the problem and generate a solution almost immediately. Our power went from flickering to completely out, and with a little baby and a toddler it was hard to be without power. Since it was over the weekend, he was able to replace the damaged panel with a temporary solution until he was able to get the parts on Monday which was essential because without that we had no power. He was so kind, very quick to respond and did the job very quickly and let us know about all the electrical details between or after the job. I cannot recommend him enough. Bob's a peach! One of our 200amp main service breakers went kaboom on a Friday night, taking our A/C units with it during 100-degree heat. He arrived within a couple of hours and only took a half hour to replace the breaker. My parents needed help with a smoke alarm that kept going off and it was installed up on an 11ft. ceiling. Being elderly, there was no way for them to get up that high to check it. They also needed a high porch light replaced. He came out very quickly, addressed the issues and found the solution. We had an old (1968) electrical circuit breaker panel made by ZINSCO. If you look on line my old panel had a reputation for not tripping when it should have and sometimes catching on fire. I was originally excited about Robert/Bob. He responded to my work request and he was able to start a couple months after I contacted him. Most of the wait was he claimed he needed to order the equipment. His bid for the work was definitely over-priced but since I was not able to find anyone else who was available to do the work without waiting 6+ months, I decided I'd pay the higher price. The work was completed in ~ 2 days so his hourly rate was probably hovering around $100/hour each for him and his assistant. The material bill was more than 2x what I could have bought the same materials at HD. This was a fixed bid, so I can't complain at this point, until I received his final bill which was 25% ($1000) more than what we agreed upon. He tried to claim more work was required than in the original bid. Whether this was true or not, he finished the work earlier than he estimated with a fat hourly rate. He agreed to remove the extra cost, so at this time, I might still have been ok with the experience. The last issue was that part of the work was to install AFCI breakers. Robert claimed he could not source any of these breakers so he'd have to come back in a couple months to replace. I question this since he had 2 months to order the materials prior to the work. I had contacted him twice to get an update and both times he claimed he still was unable to get the breakers. It's been 6 months now and I've seen the breakers in both Lowes and HD. I've given up on Robert. I am accepting that I overpaid for the AFCI breakers to begin with and all I got was a traditional $5 breaker. I will just buy the breakers myself and install them. read more
