BUYERS BEWARE-(ESPECIALLY OVERSEAS BUYERS) I logged onto their website before Christmas and saw that they were having a "Winter Sale" and to my delight there was a Red Tail Hawk in the key of G at a discounted price of $99, so i proceeded and purchased the flute. After paying $45? for shipping and waiting 20 days for it to arrive, after it being sat with USPS after collection from their place for 12 days before even being posted to the UK. Imagine my delight when the flute eventually arrived and my horror when what I found inside when I opened it. I was expecting a nice new shiney Red Tail Hawk and instead I had got a 10 YEAR OLD flute that had been played to death with God knows how many mouths it had had around it, with a mis matched badly made fetish, dirty and pen marked leather wraps and a worn mouth piece with teeth marks/indentations(see attached photos). I complained to Jessica about this to which I got the following reply: The Classic flutes differ from our regular flutes due to one or more of the following reasons; they may be older stock, a previous design, have a slight cosmetic imperfection, crafted from a discontinued wood, or the last of our current inventory. "The flute body design and/or the flute fetish for all our Classic Flutes may vary from the image seen on the product page." You received an older Red Tail Hawk with an older fetish and that's exactly why it was in the Classic Flute Sale. I hope you aren't too terribly disappointed and that the deeply discounted price makes up for it. With a WINK emoji. All sales are final with Classic Flutes, but, we'd love to offer you a free to download for one of our music CDs: NOWHERE on their website did it state before, during or after purchase that I was actually buying a "Classic Flute" until I receieved my invoice with a correct photo attached but the wording "Classic" also included. I made a complaint and received the above response and low and behold a couple of days later the actual wording on their Classic Flutes mysteriously appeared on their website to cover their tracks. Ether way what I received is not covered in their wording. Had I wanted to buy a 10 year old second hand, dirty flute with teeth marks, dirty leather and a wrong mismatched fetish I would of done so in the first place. I wrote to Odell and he apologised and refunded the $99 I had paid. I responded with a thankyou email and stated that I was grateful for the discount but VERY Unhappy with their underhand business tactics which in my eyes accounts for false advertising and fraud and I am still left with a badly made fetish and as of date have had no further reply regarding this matter. Undoubtedly they make nice flutes but I find their business ethics leave a LOT to be desired and find it quite disgusting to be honest. I am beyond happy with my purchases. They sound great and are a joy to play.. I feel so happy, so at peace when playing. They sound THAT good.. Truly an amazing company, and wonderful creations to soothe, revitalize the soul, heal, and bring comfort and smiles to the world, one flute at a time! After moving to Arizona, I became interested in the Native American Flute and Native American Style flute. When I first heard them, I knew I had to have one... but people told me that it was unlikely that I would end with just one. They were right! Partially right due to the craftsmanship and beauty created by High Spirits Flutes of Pategonia AZ, and now with a 2nd showroom in Tucson. When I first started looking, I didn't know one company from another. Online, there were several manufacturers and I found several making negative comments about their competitor High Spirits. I never liked that, and my attention turned more and more to High Spirits, so I guess I should be thankful to those competitors who talk less about their own work, and more about trying to drag High Spirits down. My first flute, I found in a gallery in Scottsdale. I loved the look with its distinctive southwest addition of turquoise. I played several flutes that day... or tried to, and then picked up my first adoption. It was beautiful, and the sound came so easy...Melodic and uplifting and still somewhat haunting. I asked who made it and was told "High Spirits" and I just smiled. I couldn't purchase that day, but did come back and am so happy I did. It has brought great joy and happiness. One day at a local fair in Mesa, I met some distributors for High Spirits and they were exceptional friendly people. They let me try several, and I was attracted to a deeper sound than my first. It was also tuned to 432Hz instead of 440Hz. and when playing, it just seemed to vibrate in my soul. Another clear beautiful voice that seemed so calming. One might think that was enough... but no. It certainly wasn't that I was unhappy - far from it, I just wanted more beauty and to try different things. I had seen on their web site, their signature series and claims of how it was different, and I had to know. It was also the most beautiful flute that I have seen and the design held special meaning for me. I waited and waited hoping for a sale, and finally it was on sale and I jumped at the chance, and at the same time got the deepest of all my flutes. I was unsure if I would be able to play it, because it was so large and had large fingering holes. I actually called High Spirits and spoke with the owner, Odell Borg. He listened to me, answering and asking questions and said he felt I would do fine... so I took a leap of faith and adopted yet another flute. Both have added tremendously to my well-being and not a day goes by when I don't just pick up at least one of them, and usually two or more. They have different sounds, but both as with my others tend to just fill me with peace and let the world float away. I do have flutes from three other flute makers and while they are all wonderful, particularly one of them, still I am so glad that I found High Spirits. They are not the least expensive, but there certainly is a noticeable difference in playing their flutes, especially the signature flute - of which I have the Monarch Butterfly in F#. Truly an amazing creation. They have outstanding customer service, and return/exchange policies, and you couldn't meet more helpful people. I have heard people say "I could never play that, I have no talent" and more. Actually, it is one of the easiest instruments to learn to play. Like many, I just play from the heart, but High Spirits does actually include a CD with purchase that has easy to follow instructions and offer much more free online from downloads to advice to a calendar of events and more. I know this is long, but I truly can't say enough about High Spirits... the people and the flutes. If you ever wanted to try, spread your wings, and leap into the beauty. You will be so glad you did and thanks to Odell Borg and his company there will be one more smile in the world. read more

2 months ago I ordered Earth Tone bass B 432 hz from high spirits and I was very happy with what I saw but when I started playing I immediately realized that there was a problem. I found that the fetish is curved and there is a rather large gap between it and the flute, which leads to air leakage from behind. I contacted them and they sent me a new one, free of charge, for which I thank them, but it also turned out to be curved. Then I decided to fix them myself and flattened and polished them with micron sandpaper (don't do this if you don't know what you're doing) and the flute started to sound much better. And again I was happy until I decided to check its key and frequency. I took a professional chromatic tuner ... and guess what ... it turned out to be tuned to 440Hz. My Earth Tone bass 432hz turned out to be Notearth Tone bass 440hz. There was no way I could put up with that anymore, because the most important thing for me was that it was tuned to 432hz, otherwise I wouldn't have ordered one, right? I contacted them again, describing the situation in detail, and the answer was that due to complications with customs, I could not send the flute back and they offered me a 75 USD refund, provided I kept it as it was, which I of course refused. I asked them if it was possible to tune it to 432hz myself and I didn't get an answer. Our correspondence ended here. My guess is that they messed up the blanks, but that doesn't matter anymore. So, I wanted a bass flute with deep and healing tones at 432hz, and I ended up with a flute I didn't want. This was a very important condition for me. Now maybe I'll put it up for sale to go to someone who wants such a flute. And I will order from a real flute master, who still makes them with love and attention, and money and mass production are not the most important to him. So, in conclusion, I personally would not repeat the mistake of ordering from High Spirits again and I would not recommend anyone else to do it. read more

I have purchased two flutes for my wife from High Spirits over the course of three years - the "Sparrow Hawk" key of A, walnut, and the "Spirit Flute Traditional Bass" Key of D, Spanish cedar. Both are extremely well crafted, easy to play and look fantastic. My wife is not a musician and practices sporadically, but she has nonetheless made good progress because of the ease and "approachability" of these instruments. I am most impressed with the Spirit Flute; my wife was seeking a deeper tone, but a traditional "D" bass flute is rather large and can be cumbersome for a beginner. Somehow, Odell Borg, the "spirit" and craftsman behind these flutes and this company, was able to design a shorter, much easier to handle flute without sacrificing any of the deep, "D" tones. We have a neighbor who owns High Spirits traditional "D" bass flutes; played the two side-by-side, and there is very little discernible difference. Quite a feat! I recently heard that High Spirits suffered a terrible fire at their business that nearly wiped them out. I can't tell you what a grave loss that would have been to the spirit of all musicians who seek authentic Native American instruments. May Odell and High Spirits continue on for many, many moons to come! read more

I've had my High Spirits flute for 9 years, I bought it in a store in Moab while riding around on the rocks. it is as beautiful and inspiring as the day i bought it. Wow what a lovely instrument. I live in boulder and have just purchased a pocket flute for my daughters 6th birthday, she is going to flip over it I just know she will make wonderful sounds every time she plays it. Odell Borg makes these flutes so beautifully, AND he supports them well with lots of instructional videos on youtube and he has a wonderful monthly email newsletter with lots of flute information in it so you feel really supported. When I ordered my first flute from High Spirits, a Sparrow Hawk in Spanish Cedar, I liked it so much I told my Dad and he ordered a Golden Eagle in Spanish Cedar. I ordered another flute, a Kestrel D for myself for Christmas and there was a computer glitch and I accidentally ordered 6. They were really great about taking the other 5 flutes off my order and quick to refund the money. The flutes are beautiful to look at and they sound great.
