On May 5, 2026 I left my professional-grade trombone at IMC for work to improve its slide performance. On May 18 I was assured that the job had been completed. Arriving home, I found the slide to be WORSE than when it had been left there. It also seems that none or very little of the promised work was completed. After hiring a specialized brass craftsperson to do the job, the trombone looks and feels incredible. I emailed IMC on May 21 after having it inspected by the new repair person and learning how badly the store had performed. This is a nice family music store, with guitars, drums, stringed, and wind instruments. It's not a "pro shop". For my needs, I wanted a pro-shop, but that's not to diminish the worth of a family music store. They are many things to many people, and perhaps serve that function well. It's a reasonable beginner/education-based music store. If you're a pro or traveling musician, you may be disappointed. That said, if you're a parent or a newbie, might be just fine. read more

You can't go wrong with any of the local music shops in town that does regular business with school districts. IMC is really a great retailer. They are always helpful, knowledgeable, and reliable. I've been doing business with them for 6 years now in my current district and 4 additional years while in other districts. I love their store, the way they remodeled is so inviting, comfortable, and seems roomier. I also love their logo redo, it is so cool! All the employees are great. They are always positive and friendly. I highly recommend IMC! 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I have been playing flute & piccolo for 40 years. After not playing them consistently for a while just playing here and there I decided to bring both of my instruments in to see if they needed adjustments/pads, etc. I brought them in on Saturday, December 2, 2023. I received a call on Monday the 4th. The technician sounded rude and not really wanting to do the job. He informed me that my flute needed the head cork and 4 pads replaced and needed adjustment at the tune of $370. He also informed me that my piccolo needed a full pad replacement which is not the case and a new head cork and adjustment at the tune of over $500. I can purchase a new piccolo for less than the estimate. I went ahead and had him repair my flute. I was just practicing for what I will be playing for my 2nd grader's class tomorrow. Shoddy work. Never bringing my instruments back to this store again. The pads are sticking. I had no sticky pads before I brought the flute in. The sound is not what it was. I am not happy about the money I spent on such bad work and bad attitude. I will be taking my instruments to another local instrument shop from now on. The techs are obviously not NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants certified technicians like the one at the music store I worked for in Virginia. Beware of this place and make sure you play your instruments after repair before you leave the store. They just want to charge you astronomical prices for shoddy work. Never again! read more

I decided to dust off my keyboard and see if I could learn a few new songs so I stopped in to Instrumental Music Center. They had a large selection of piano sheet music but not exactly what I was looking for. A sweet girl, I think her name was Katie, offered to help me find something I would like and when we couldn't find anything in stock she looked up some selections on line and found a great choice for me. I took my 7-year old son in to look at guitars since he's been begging me for one for ages. I'm so glad we went here. The staff was so welcoming and helpful and supportive to my little guy and totally hyped him up as he picked a guitar and played around with it. Customer services is EXTREMELY HIGH; this is the way all businesses should be run. Had tuning issues with my husbands guitar (he's 86) and they graciously fixed them at no charge to me; whereas another company in town wanted $25 to tune plus the cost of new strings, plus they didn't even have a tech working until after 5pm. Went back to Instrumental Music Center a third time, purchased a small guitar, with total help and suggestions and zero pressure. We even got a thank you card for our business. I haven't been a hardcore band geek for well over 10 years, but stepping into the store brought it all back. Instruments, beginner books from every curriculum possible, reeds, cleaning kits, they've got it all! The sheet music selection for piano was fairly limited and weighted towards the "easy arrangement" pop collections, but special orders go out on Mondays and they can get you pretty much anything you're looking for. They can also print licensed sheet music for single songs for a few dollars, and that system has a HUGE selection. The store has pretty much anything a band geek or orch dork could look for, and the staff is super-helpful to boot. Highly recommended!! read more

This locally-owned music store has only gotten better (and bigger!) in its ten years of existence. It is a full-service music establishment offering instruments, lessons, rentals, and repairs. On our last visit to IMC we were in the market to rent a viola for our budding musician. Leslie, one of the store's owners, was on hand to help us personally. She was a whirlwind of multi-tasking, simultaneously showing my younger sons some fun kid-friendly instruments to keep them busy while grabbing several violas for my daughter to try out, all the while overseeing the installation of WiFi (now available for parents who wait while their kids take lessons!) and greeting customers. As my boys beat on bongo drums, Leslie found the perfect viola, explained the rental agreement, and patiently guided my daughter through the ABCs of viola care. The store has a friendly, relaxed feel to it; but have no doubt, they are serious about music. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable in all aspects of traditional orchestra and band equipment (including marching band, flag, and drum lines) and gives honest opinions about repairs. This happened roughly five months ago , but it still irks me and I feel I have to say something. I needed work done on the vibrato system on my electric guitar. I relayed to someone at the front desk my request & they relayed that to someone in a far back room (I'm assuming where the repairs are done) A few days later I picked up my guitar from the store and as I opened the case I noticed that the vibrato bar was missing .Upon closer it turns out the bar was broken and the majority of the bar had busted off. I instantly took the wrecked guitar back into the store and told the person at the front desk what happened. They went and relayed the issue to the repair department.Soon after, the person at the front desk came back and relayed to me that the tech/luthier said that the bar was screwed in too tight and busted. This may`ve been very well true but in my opinion , a music store that wanted me as a return customer would`ve notified me ahead of time that a piece of my instrument was busted in the repair process. .Soon after that ,the clerk at the front desk told me "I can sell you a new bar for 8 bucks " I suppose he was just doing his job and trying to help but it was not a professional response to someone who just discovered his personal property was damaged . Also, I never had the opportunity to speak with the actual tech that did the guitar "repair". Was it my job to somehow 'flag down' someone in the repair shop ? I left that night feeling as if there was not much interest in keeping me as a customer. As a result of this experience ,I plan to venture out to a different place for future guitar repairs where there is a much greater emphasis on personal attention and care to my investment. read more

Judgemental, rude store workers, don't care about you, just want your money

First of all, I really like the selection in this store. I play guitar and they have a good selection of affordable acoustics. They set them up and keep them in tune and really do a good job of taking care of their inventory. But here's where they lose me- Every time I've ever gone in this store I get someone attached to me like a leech that just won't leave me alone to play the instruments. They want to start handing me different ones to try and tell me things like, "You need to figure out if you're a rosewood guy or a mahogany guy." I've been playing guitar for over 20 years. I can select my own instruments very well. The main thing I need to help me decide on a guitar to purchase is for people to leave me the heck alone and play their inventory. A simple, "I'm here if you have any questions," is nice. Leave it at that. Today I went in there to browse because I'm going to be purchasing in about a month and right off the bat had some girl suggesting ukelele/guitar hybrids to me. Okay, whatever, she seemed nice and left me alone eventually. Then some other guy pounced and wanted to start handing me different instruments. C'mon man! It's really a shame because I do like their inventory, prices and the way they care for their instruments. But I'll never go back just because I hate the constant pressure and forced entry into my decision making. Just leave people alone after your initial greeting unless they ask you for help. I never have posted a review, but this just irked me to no end. read more

The offensively rude salesman talked himself out of a $900 sale. After listening to him bad mouth a preivous customer who had told him he "didnt need his help" I understand why. I came in with my mother and her friend. He purchased a metronome and multiple guitar tuners. We were looking at a beautiful 3/4 bass and a guitar. I guess because we had been working on restoring a car and had dirty clothes on he assumed we could not afford them. Never judge a book by its cover. Now Im not so offended at what he said when my mom picked up a guitar. Which was "we dont sell used instruments so if you scratch that $900 guitar. You buy it" My moms friend offered to buy the guitar and Wally just stood there in disbelief. After telling Wally he needed to be a little more polite. We left. Never to return. read more

Very nice and knowledgable staff. They have a ton of sheet music and a good selection of music. If you have some time to explore they have an assortment of instruments and the staff is more than accommodating if you would like to practice or try an instrument. The strange instrument that makes sounds it has an antenna and it senses your hand movement is awesome. I cannot remember the name but they have it turned on and it's really fun to play with. I bought sheet music here I think it was about $3-5 good price and it's nice to know. read more

I walked in to get a djambe (spelling) drum for my husband for Christmas. I dont know much about them but wally was there happy and willing to help. He helped me pick out the perfect instrument and offered it hold it for me until christmas as well as offered to find a box so I could wrap it. I also asked about flute repairs since mine is in need of some maintenance and he was happy to walk me through the pricing guide of that as well.
