Higherground Brewing was yet another Montana brewery I got to try and it is always so much fun checking these places off my list. For this brewery we enjoyed the Hula Hopped IPA. I have distanced myself from IPA'S for a short time as they are everywhere but in late Spring and early Summer I have gotten a hankering for them once again and so here comes the IPA'S rolling back. Flavors to have fun with in this flavor profile here are hoppiness, floral, some maltiness and a sweetness of a natural sort. It was very refreshing and the color of the beer is nice and bright. I suppose that description could also be added to the flavor profile as well. A nice introduction into this brewery and hopefully further beer experiences with Higherground in the future! read more

We travel into Hamilton MT for different festivals, this is our 4th or 5th time to this brewery. We Love the pizza, the beer is fabulous, and the service is great. Unfortunately, today we went, received our pizza, and I asked for a ranch dressing... The server brought us two very watered down little ranch containers.... (He never mentioned a charge) Well when we got the bill we were charged .75 per very small watered down container with no clue that they were A. Going to charge us B. Tried to go here on July 4th 2025. Their instagram said they were open for July 4th and did not mention anything about modified hours. We called a few times to confirm but they did not answer their phone. We show up 90 minutes before their published close and were told they were closing early and that they never answer their phones (thanks for that). This is in a town where everything else shuts down at 8, leaving us stranded. If a place is not going to answer their phone and not bother to include their early closing in their post about being open on the holiday them for me they don't care enough about their customers to deserve my business. Not a professional setup regardless of how good their food and beer might or might not be. read more

We haven't been here in years and stopped in for a beer and pizza before going to a concert. The last time we were here, years ago, everything was great, food and drinks. This time neither was really the case. To start, the place wasn't busy, there were maybe four or five tables all two tops. They also seemed to have at least four maybe five wait people, but we still waited at least 15+ minutes for someone to come to the table and ask if we had been helped. Service was sketchy the whole time, even trying to pay was a feat. The beer, we both had one of the IPA's on tap, nothing wrong with it just not very exciting. As for the food the pizza came out from the time we ordered it to the table in about five minutes. I immediately had to tell the kid to take it back as it was severely undercooked. Even after that it was still not cooked even close to done. As I watched other ones brought out they were all the same. I don't know, maybe down there they like raw dough pizza. read more

I generally do not enjoy breweries. They tend to be loud, crowded and have just mediocre food. However, this experience was not any of those things. I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend to anyone. Also, a big - big part of a my great experience was pleasant and attentive servers. That always makes a big difference. They were very helpful in giving suggestions since I told them I had never been there. It's much appreciated when people take time and don't rush you along. Have been to Higherground 4 times in the last two months. Three of those times I was told there was a 2 hour wait for pizza order. Seemed strange as there were numerous tables empty. Left and went to another local brewery. Last time I went in there were, at most, 12 people in the brewery. My son and I were not acknowledged after 20 minutes. We were sitting at the BAR. Needless to say we left and went to another brewery, This place needs to change the way they do business. I can not and will not recommend to friends and relatives. read more

The establishment is very clean and was quieter than what we are used to for average noise but pretty close to average. We had the spinach salad with poppy lime dressing, margherita pizza, half Emerald Garden half Thai Pie pizza (per our server's suggestion, and tomato soup with bread and butter, Boulanger root beer, and Hurruh Scotch ale. We sat ourselves as instructed by the sign at the entrance, we were greeted relatively quickly, and our food came out just as quickly in the following order: beer, salad, root beer, water, pizzas, then soup (which I ordered after ordering the original order). The server proactively brought 2 cups as we mentioned that our boys were going to share the bottle soda. All our waters came out with no ice as requested and honestly, that's a first for us anywhere. The salad came out and we were serving ourselves (on paper plates with metal forks) when another server came to our table with a different dressing. They had served our salad with Mediterranean dressing instead of the Poppy Lime. Turns out I liked the Mediterranean one better! The Poppy lime was just too coconut-y for my taste but I really appreciated that they caught their own error AND let us know what the one originally served was called. Oh, I also want to mention that we had to use our "eating" forks to serve the salad as there nothing to serve it with. The magherita pizza was excellent and we all loved it, ate every slice. The other two flavors were not our favorite and there were leftovers. The soup was bigger than I expected, a bowl not a cup, enough for a whole meal for me. It was really pretty decorated using pesto to do a design across the whole top. It was thick and creamy, a bit on the salty side, but very tasty. It was served with 2 thick slices of baguette and an individually wrapped pat of butter. Lastly, my husband liked his ale saying it had good flavor as described in the menu. I liked that it was served in an aesthetically pleasing glass, nicer bthan the typical glass like what the water was served in because of its shape. SUMMARY: Customer service was excellent, very friendly and seemingly genuine. Food was good, margherita pizza was really good. Overall, I'd give it FOUR AND A HALF STARS (half off for using paper plates and not including a serving utensils with the salad), but 5 will have to do ;) (and makes my family bug eyed because of how rare that is for me XD). What was actually brought to our table tasted delicious but just like many places the service was poor... we were seated quickly and attended to right away but our drinks were only partially delivered. We had appetizers before majority of table had drinks. There was no follow up to take our actual dinner order and when we called the waitress over she informed us the kitchen was backed up and the pizza order would be at least an hour wait! The pizza looked really good but it was a little early for dinner. I ended up stopping back in for dinner later. Both the pizza and the salad are very good. This used to be one of my favorite places--this is from a born and raised Bitterrooter. The service is absolutely terrible. It was not a busy night. 7 tables were full, the rest empty. We waited half an hour to even be looked at tonight, let alone get a beer. One of their servers was wearing a shirt that said "be polite you fu**er" on the back. In a public restaurant.....with children around. Is there no work attire policy? The servers were restocking drinks and clearing tables and not paying any mind to the 5 tables that were there, waiting on food and drinks. This is super disappointing. Something really needs to change. Servers need to be trained--this is coming from someone who has been a server for 10 years. These girls have no idea what they're doing.
