Nailed it with that Thai pizza, and as a Central Oregonian I been wore out on Hazy IPA's but HG's Mountain Haze is superior and if I didn't have to work for a living I'd probably retire here (not just Hamilton...this brewery). If only MT could figure out their damn liquor licenses so a guy could get off work and still have a chance to sit down and have a couple beers without rushing. First time ever going to Higherground Brewing and my experience couldn't have been better! I ordered The Thai Pie (pizza with peanut sauce, Parmesan, shredded Thai chicken, mushrooms, Asian greens, and crushed peanuts). I asked if it was spicy and upon being told that it had a "bit of a bite to it", I explained that I'm very sensitive to spicy food and they gladly made sure to adjust my order to my liking. I literally got my pizza within 10 minutes of ordering it. It was absolutely delicious! After sampling several of the craft beers (which were all very tasty), I settled on the Hop Tamer Session IPA. I was pleasantly surprised that along with their custom brews, they also had a hard seltzer (The Morning Glory) that I really enjoyed. I tend to lean toward hard seltzers more than beer and loved that they have a selection to accommodate all tastes. The gentlemen that were working were very friendly, knowledgeable and provided excellent service. My server / bartender Corey was more than happy to go over the menu with me and had a great personality to boot. It's one thing to go out and get great food, but when you pair that with wonderful service it makes for an excellent experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Higherground Brewing and will be recommending it to all of my friends. I will most definitely be a return customer and encourage anyone reading this to give it a try. You will not be disappointed! read more

We ordered the pizza and 20 minutes later the bartender came over to us and said we have a lot of takeout orders so it's gonna be another 20 to 25 minutes. Higherground is quickly being removed from our go to place to take home salad and a pizza. The salad with added chicken used to be a chicken breast, now it's a dab of very shredded chicken. Thought we'd try it again without the chicken and per the description, there was no butterleaf lettuce at all. What was used was the "pretty" looking bitter tasting lettuce, not pleasant at all. The pizza was a disappointment as well, way too burnt on the edges and anemic looking on the bottom as well as bland tasting. Such a shame. read more

Good food and beer in a fun atmosphere. It can get really busy though, so be prepared to wait a bit during tourist season.

Came by to try out their beers via sampler, which came out to be eight beers. Styles cover a decent range including golden ales, scotch ale, IPA, red ale, stout, etc. Being a mostly IPA fan myself, I didn't particularly care for any of the beers and thought the Dry Fly IPA was a bit lacking. The only brew I really liked was a seasonal beer, the Meditation Ale, which is an interesting mix of Japanese-American pale ale, clocking in at 8% abv. For bites, options only include $15 specialty pizzas and salads at the moment. I enjoyed the "365" pizza with its' interesting toppings of garlic sauce paired with dried cranberries, chicken, broccoli, and bacon. Crust was a bit thin but that's expected from the wood fired pizza oven. Service at the bar was okay, a bit slow on a non busy Saturday afternoon. As a venue, there's plenty of seating, tables and bar stools. Think I even witnessed a 5 year old's birthday party at the brewery... strange. Montana liquor laws only let brewpubs open till 8pm, since its supposed to be a tasting place, not a full blown bar. Kind of absurd imo. read more

This may sound like a cliche, but this place is easily one of the best beer and pizza places in the West let alone Montana! I had the Irish Red and it was a perfect blend of malts and hops! My wife had the Flash Flood Milk Stout and she thought is was the best stouts she's had in a very long! We had the Bremeister Pizza that was one of the best pizzas we've ever had! That also is not a cliche! We came all the way from Phoenix AZ to Hamilton MT to find a brewery who knew how to brew beer and make pizzas! ON TOP OF ALL THAT...we we got here there was 1 server (a bald guy) waiting in 5 tables! He did not complain, he did not slow down but got our beer and pizza in a speedy amount of time! Higher ground is lucky to have this guy working for them! What a great place! We wish we could stay an extra day to have dinner here. Reward yourself and eat here! read more

This is the best Beer in Hamilton. My favorite is the dry fly ipa. Pizza is good and Jasper salad is great. The place is too loud when busy but fine when it is less full. Wait staff is very good. I really like it for a lunch stop or casual dinner with friends. read more

Best Sunday family dinner joint in the Bitterroot Valley. Huge fresh salads and delicious gourmet wood fired pizzas. Great brews and service is awesome (short handed but didn't complain everyone pitched in). Highly recommend the Caesar Entree salad to share with 2-3 people homemade dressing. We had Man Pie all meat, Hawaiian and build your own they came out in a few minutes. Great sauce!! read more

I went there for lunch around 1:00 on 2/28/24. There were 2 ladies working at the bar and floor. The older woman, not old, just older than the dark haired girl that also worked at that time, was very attentive as always. I finished my lunch and beer, moved the empty plate and glass a bit away from me, to signal I was done and ready for the check. I waited and waited. The young girl was leaning on a table, socializing with a man, NOT taking an order from him. I looked at her, but she never broke her gaze with the man to check on any customer. I looked around, and the other woman was flitting from table to table far from the bar, wiping tables and picking up while the girl did NOTHING, had zero concern for the customers. I was about to walk over to the girl and tell her I've been waiting to pay the bill, when the woman actually working passed by. I asked her to check me out and she did. There were a fair amount of customers at that time. Do your young servers get sufficient training? I was mad. I had things to do and did not appreciate being made to wait a long time after I was ready to go. It crossed my mind to never come back. I am and have been a member of the beer club, which is why I probably will return, but i will not let that inconsiderate girl do this to me again. Super cool atmosphere - nice waitress/bartender. The pizza was decent; not the best I ever had, not the worst either. I ordered the broccoli beer cheese soup...it was interesting . Over the last few years I have developed an increased appreciation for breweries. Higher ground has a nice selection of brews and serves delicious pizzas. Staff are genuinely concerned about customer satisfaction and strive to keep everyone happy. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Excellent pizza--it was extremely fresh. My husband tried the scotch ale and it was a really quality scotch ale. Vibe inside was open and friendly. Only bummer is that you have to wait in line to order your food (you get a number for the table) and then order drinks at the bar. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it feels like they should have figured out a way to serve the customer where they aren't having to do so much work to get a beer and some food. Hamilton is lucky to be the home of this great brewery restaurant. Higher ground has an excellent menu of beers & seasonal offerings. I keep going back for the Flash Flood Stout (now in cans) & I really like their IPAs. Great pizza, soups & huge fresh salads. Plenty of seating, & friendly, fast service. During the evenings the noise level can be a bit high, but generally the atmosphere is warm & the energy is good. read more

I'm not a fan, although their parking lot is full all the time. I've had burned pizza there on the occasions, even when I complained the next one was too and they acted like all pizza is supposed to be burned! My wife was unimpressed with her salad and I couldn't find a beer I liked. That's been our experience, so we don't go there anymore. read more

Higher ground just opened in mid-December 2011 and seems like it is on the right track to a good business. Why? Their pizza is good and the beer is even better. Their stout was great so I took a growler of it home. The decor is pretty low key - tables look like palettes and there are a few lacquered trees scattered about. There's a long bar and an area with couches too. The signage from the street is hard to see, especially at night, so be on the lookout for it. Remembered it as being good from previous visits. On most recent visit, not so much. Found numerous unoccupied dirty tables on arrival, had to clean two separate tables ourselves to break our party of 7 in two different locations. Service was slow and other party that came in and cleaned there own tables and seated themselves 20 minutes later were served and left before we ever got our food. This was a very cool spot. You could tell it was a place frequented often by local beer drinkers. We grabbed a couple of flights and really enjoyed the beers. My favorite was the Hop Tamer mosaic session ale. If you enjoy this particular hop, come get this beer asap. Everything was incredibly affordable with a 4 beer flight running 5 bucks and a sixer or growler fill running 9 bucks. Nicely done HG. read more
