This is one nursing home I'm in and this place is definitely a disaster for all of the residents and families to come to. I'm the youngest one here and I used to be a CNA, etc.. I came here for one thing but I ended up with alot of more problems. I hear people screaming with pain and the so called nurses nor doctors do anything but within their own time. I've called the state to come in unannounced and they said that they would.. people are dying here, the staff says that they're short staffed all day long, etc. I'm going to make sure that this place gets properly reviewed by the state visually unannounced so that they can see what the people are doing. read more

I came into the facility with minimal injuries and left worse than when I came in. I am a retired psychologist and mandated reporter I'm a diabetic On January 19 2025-February 7 2025. I was on the 7th floor of he highland and cece was the so called nurse on duty and she'd never come into my room with food or medication of any kind. Well on Jan 19 I was quite hungry and I called the kitchen I asked for 3 fruit loop cereal and they said they couldn't bring it in the room Cece didn't like me coming out of my room. So when I exited my room for the cereal at the elevator I was yelled at in front of all patients who were in the dinning room and then Cece had an aide who was her bff and Patrice Todd said I pulled her badge off her. Now a little background I was a hate crime victim and had absolutely no functional use of my left arm and she released the clip on the ribbon which held her badge and ribbon together so it's physically impossible to do what she said I allegedly did. Both called the supervisor that was on that day Mabel Brandi she didn't speak with me but only heard bullshit from Cece and officers from the worst police department 103rd responding. One of the officers was osina a female officer who is has such predatory behavior problems badge number 5048. Remember what I said I only came out to get two cereals and I ended up in Jamaica hospital psych wardI . I was kept at highland to be abused neglected and tortured on a daily.basis. On April 1 2025 I had an apportunity again for housing do I signed lease again and I was not let into the apartment until August 15 the landlord e & m management made me pay rent and wouldn't let me in the apartment. On August 15i was accompanied to the apartment by physical therapist and the director of social work at highland her name is Cristina osirio. When we arrived at the apartment I was promised a ramp. Because there are three steps leading into the apartment and I walk with a walker. I never hit a ramp the landlord went back on his word Then while I was dropped off on a hospital bed Till this day I have absolutely no furniture. Cristina said I either fen for myself or die. I just had hip replacement surgery because highland broke my hip when I arrived at this make shift apartment the utilities were not put on. The electric sockets were not working. No curtains so everybody watched me do whatever I did. When I arrived there was absolutely no food. No medication. I had no phone. No furniture. No side or jnursen no therapy of any kind. I'm a diabetic and the apartment was in no shape for occupatanvy the neighbors saw some packages on my stoop and they've noticed that I wasn't getting them inside so they called for the police and in turn the cops broke my screen door if my bedroom window because I was unconscious from a low blood sugar level I had no food or medicine highland discharged me with the wrong medication and the police had to call my pharmacy on Brooklyn and they delivered the correct medication. As far as food I had to buy everything for myself. After y to he police had to break my screen window and get me to the emergency room I noticed that my neighbor had an idea that they were going to scam me I residents 385 Bayview ave and my neighbor directly above me came down and introduced himself as Ricky and I gave him a chance to befriend me. But a couple of days later he presented a female that he claimed lived with him in the apartment above me bake said her name was twana when she came into my apartment she cut my hair it was very matted and washed it and sweep the floor and she didn't a lot and in return I paid her handsomely for what she did. She took my spare key to my apartment. She's was letting herself in and out of my apartment. Then I noticed by identity cards were missing. At first one night she'd buy dinner next night I would. Then one day she bought wing stop and she also bought a six pack of heinkin beer now I don't drink and never did. Now I'm getting very suspicious of who these people are then she comes down and tells me as she's sitting on a chair in my apartment. I have a job if I do something for you I'd like a twenty dollar bill here and there and then she said boldly what's a matter you don't trust me with your debit card ? I would not even give sstsn my debit card why would I give it to you? Are you planning to clean out my account. I immediately called e & m and demanded a new lock be put on my door. After the new lock was put on my door that's when Ricky returned the key to the old lock. What the thermostat says and what the heat actually is in the apartment is different It's in the middle of winter and it's very cold and I caught a cold but have no heat And as I said at the beginning I was only a hate crime victim and when the landlord was made aware of what Ricky and twana did he said that's not their name because it differed from the names on their lease. On Christmas Eve of 2024 I was riding my ebike in a crosswalk in Salt Lake City when a 4 wheel drive pickup ran the red light and ran me over. I spent a week in hospital and was released to Highland Care Center to rehab from a broken left femur. I progressed through physical and occupational therapy over the next approximately 12 weeks and I think I got to know the staff of this facility pretty intimately. I found the staff, from administration to the medical staff, the therapy staff,and even housekeeping and transportation workers to be dedicated, caring, and attentive. The food was excellent, and if I found anything to be negative it was the portions of food on my tray to be way too much. I had to request smaller portions, which they gladly accomodated. I don't wish the extreme pain of recovering from a broken femur on anyone, however should you find you have a need for a great recovery center, either from injury or surgery, I would encourage anyone to come to the Highland Care Center. I know I am a difficult patient, but I had my every need met here. read more

This place is horrendous!!!! Do NOT EVER send someone here!!!! The aids run the place and think.they're all PhdDs!! RRLOL!! Tonight the "assistant" came in and only talked about my pussy!! At one point she stood in my room and simply, repeatedly said, "Pussy, pussy, pussy, pussy". If they dont believe me, they can play back the tape and listen to her. I asked her repeatedly to leave my room, but no. She stood closer to the door and chanted pussy. You know ive never given any thought to anyone's sexuality, but they should not bring in lesbions to care for female patients, especially when they're trolling for their next lay. Anyway, the food here is horrendous, everything is covered with black pepper to the point it makes you sick. They will let you have a sandwich in place of your meal... If the aid will bring it to you!! Ive asked for a sandwich 4 times this week, and ONE TIME ONLY gotten a sandwich (although the aid complained voisiferously about the extra work it caused her.) Which by the way, isnt much. If she changes me once a week, thats a lot!! Ive gotten bedsores from the lack of care!!! Anyway, if the person is someone you care about, don't send them here!! My mom was diagnosed with dementia four years ago and has been a patient since. We were concerned about her well-being and at the beginning we didn't know how great Highland Care is. Four years later we are so great full how she has been treated. Dora González had and is getting the best care possible nurses and staff are dedicated treat each of the patients with respect, kindness. Miss Brenda and Paul make sure she takes the medications and even find ways to make sure she does. The rooms are clean a television is available for each patientthe meals are given accordingly to the patients need. I visit my mom at different hours and days and happily find my mom well. I am disabled and to know my mom is in the best care gives me the peace of mind so much needed. Security is very important and it is exactly what she has. The place is very clean bathrooms are clean it's exactly as described. Management is always alert making sure things are well. Thank you Highland Care for giving our family the care needed! read more

Highland care is a pretty big facility that holds a lot of patients. It's located right between Hillside and Jamaica and has a private parking lot with not too many spots. If you don't find a parking spot in the parking lot, you'll have a hard time finding something on the street. I have a friend that works here and she enjoys the experience. I come here for a client I have from time to time and my experience is neutral. The staff needs to come together as one. I notice they can be divided and also bring each other down. I over hear a lot of arguments due to lack of teamwork. I also feel as if they should do more with the patients such as activities. read more

I believe Gus, as my dad is there and same treatment. Everyone has a different story to tell. He was there since Tuesday evening and still they can't get their paperwork straight. Someone took his clothes from a bag in the closet and so one seems to know/care what happened to them. He was allowed to urinate on himself/floor even though I told the attendants and Supervising nurse that he'll say he needs to use the restroom. The promised me they'll check on him every 2 hours, I'm sure that didn't happen. Staff seem unconcerned and they're definitely unprofessional. They dump his food in front of him without even helping him to eat. He's vegetarian and they keep bringing him meat. The Dr. is also inept. I will give them negative star. read more

If I could, I would give Highland Care Center a negative rating. My husband was discharged from the hospital following emergency surgery. He left this place about 12 hours after he arrived. He was very weak and de-conditioned. Upon arrival he was basically strip searched by a nurse. It was absolutely humiliating. They did not have any of his medication on hand when he arrived or the next morning. A registered nurse did not know the difference between an colostomy and an ileostomy or how to help him care for the ostomy. The room was dark, the furniture was beat up, and the bed was basically a cot with a paper thin mattress. The pillow had a huge hole. There was no pillowcase. When we asked for a pillowcase, they told us they didn't have any because it was "laundry day." How could a facility like this run out of pillow cases? That night my husband told me that a woman was screaming all night and staff just ignored her. In another room he heard two women arguing all night. The next morning he asked for help emptying his ostomy bag. They ignored him. He was still waiting three hours later. Fortunately, I came and helped him. When we told one of CNA's that he was leaving, she said "smart decision." Do not place your loved one in this facility. read more

Horrible care. They hardly check on there patients . Place is filth that I had to mop and wipe room down every day after my loved one got there. Staff is rude with attitude and foul language and just don't believe most of the reviews of how great it is it's not ! U can't visit after 8 mom? Really why? Every place lets u visit after 8pm this place wants to have heads up. My loved one almost fell off the bed when I visited her she was half of the bed and for over 7 hours not one person checked in on her or concerned after i told them to help get her back on the bed as I had to lift her back in bed and half hour later some one came in that on said I didn't see her off the bed as she looks to me she is fine and in bed. I took my mom out of there 3 rd day and thank god. Physical therapy lie to U telling you one thing and there hope but tell there floor manger there is no hope at all and just play you for a fool. Never once in three days did she get PT. Stay away as when I tried to get my mom out I was told " please give us another chance " even my wife said they have attitudes and let's get her out of here now!! We did and thank god never went back and packed up her stuff that sam day. Today she is much better even see her happy and not like what they told me that she has no chance to walk , talk and even move her arms. Guess what, she moving her arms , standing and yes taking again at this new place that the staff is amazing and place is your clean and state of the art equipment and over staff not like this place that the staff stand by the nurse table just gossiping and cursing out loud and not checking in on rooms make sure there patients are safe. I heard many times people yelling for help for over 25 minutes and a few times staff yelling out loud to call a ambulance in the 5 th floor . Scary but true and not a good vibe. Parking is horrible also as staff takes most of the gates parking and ur stuck looking for street parking, sometimes for hours . Horrible experience and worse decision I made sending my loved one there. Negative 4 stars !! There all about the $$$$$$ just heads up and don't ever send anyone to any place that doesn't let family after 8pm to visit or any hour they want to go to see there loved ones. read more

Don't send your loved one here. I've had several problem. My dad got an infection for two weeks I thought it was taken care of, but when we when to hospital they said its gangrene. Terrible he almost lost his leg because of the invisible doctor I never saw and the lack of care from the aide and nurses. The nurses also yell at the patients. Please don't send your love one here!! This is an extraordinary fabulous rehab center. They are rated 5 star and deserve it! First, security is good. Next, staff is the most professional that I have ever met except for one supervisor who made a statement that disturbed me and I definitely had to respond! However, staff is exceptional and really work hard, are genuine and caring. Next, the food is fabulous; has flavor and is international daily. The best is that the meals are prepared on the premises and not delivered or KOSHER! Next, this site is immaculately clean and well well maintained. Staff is always cleaning and maintaining the rooms. Finally, my dad who is currently a patient here for nearly 2 months has been so well cared for. His spirits are high; he's gained the much needed weight and enjoys attending rehab daily. Staff is very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and caring. Kudos to the CEO, director and other supervisory staff who lead by example and have nourished their staff to be the best of the best. I recommend this site 100%. read more

don"t put your loved ones there if you don"t want to losse them forever. extremely unprofessional, the social worker who works there thinks the patients as product or money, they will go all the way down to keep the patients. 1 nurse provided for 40 patients and 2 cma. no one ever picks up the phone in any floor no matter how long you wait even the operator in the front desk gets frustrated. extremely poor quality, they are keeping all the money provided by the insurance and nor spending on the care of the patients. i moved my father just after one day when i knew they are hiding something. they don"t care to let us know that they had a covid outbreak. poor management read more

My uncle was a patient at this facility for eight months. He was diagnosed with Dementia The care was good and the facility was always clean. On May 1st 2019 he was transferred out to Queens Assisted Care Facility. This was done without any relative being notified about the transfer. Upon his admission at Queens Assisted Care Facility, he walked out and was roaming the streets for hours without any shoes or coat. The temperature on that day was below 40 degrees. A concerned citizen followed him into a Walgreens and inquired about his wellness. He remembered only one phone number to an old friend The individual called that number and he was then put into contact with his granddaughter who called Queens Assisted Facility and informed them as to his whereabouts. He needs 24 hours monitoring. How could the social worker at Highland Care transfer him into an assisted living facility. He is now in limbo as to where he goes next. I am disappointed in the way Highland Care handled his situation. No one is answering my calls . Is this the way a facility in charge of providing care to the elderly supposed to operate? Hopefully someone would respond and I hope the Administration is held responsible should my uncle is hurt or gets lost in this process. People with Dementia are still human beings His long term memory is about 50% but his short term is completely shot. He was grossly misrepresented by the social worker at Highland Care who told Queens Assisted living facility a bunch of lies about his mental and physical state. read more
