I went there for a sprained ankle and get an x-ray exam. The facility accepts my insurance and has reasonable rates. It looks clean and is conveniently located. A kind, professional nurse first took care of me. Other than that, the service was hardly acceptable. The doctor (?) did not introduce herself. She performed a careless medical examination of my ankle (barely any question, no touching, no time for reflection); with the nurse, she handled the x-ray exam in an amateur way at best (only 2 views, light randomly turned on/off). First surprise: No diagnosis right after the x-ray except for what I already knew (and why I came): my foot was swelling. They were supposed to call me with X-ray reports a couple of hours later, but I had to wait five days to get them, after many phone calls, emails and a final onsite visit to complain: yes, FIVE DAYS, at an URGENT CARE clinic. Does that sound right? In addition to being blatantly wrong, this is against what they lead you to expect on their website (*none* of the doctors listed there were present on my two visits, the one who took care of me is *not* on the website; the exam is conducted by the onsite doctor and nurse, not by a radiologist; you don't get your results before leaving...). They succeeded in selling me useless and cumbersome crutches, not in complying with their duty of care. You don't even get to see radiology pictures unless you pay $10 for a CD... Biggest scam in medicine. I only realized they did the same thing to my friend when I was complaining to her about my experience after. I went in yesterday for a fairly simple case of food poisoning. Instead of providing any sort of treatment, the PA simply took my blood pressure and temperature before referring me to the hospital a couple of blocks away. The receptionist kept telling me my insurance was inactive, I called my insurance company (When she is supposed to as part of her job) and my insurance company said it is active, my insurance should not have any issues. While I was there I asked if she can check again, she refused to. Only thing she offered was for me to pay the $125 fee. 1. A medical problem showed up while out of reach of university health services - these guys took my insurance. 2. The person who answered the phone (who is also an RN) was incredibly nice and let me know how long i could expect to wait when i arrived (less than 10') 3. Its super convenient to the subway which is a bonus when you're feeling terrible. 4. After like five minutes, I saw Dr. Faucette, who was an intelligent, thoughtful good listener. After a quick, competent exam, she gave me the perscription that i needed, some good advice on how to treat the condition outside of the medication, and advice on what to do if things got worse. 5. These guys are results focused. You are not going to get a lot of hand holding. They want to get you better and get you out of there - but this is what i wanted too. Saved me a trip to the ER. Came in today, got outstanding care from doctor nivens, with the assistance of two amazing people a medical assistants under the name, jannina and a nurse named younghee. After treatment of my injuries, they wrote me a referral that i wasnt able to get, they got it for me the same day, as well as printed me out directions. I highly reccomend this facility to those looking for a quick and safe treatment. This place is amazing! I was seen within 10 min of walking in. The facility is modern, clean and very cute. Everyone working was professional and polite. Dr. Chen saw me and diagnosed me quickly (after spending hours at Mount Sinai with no results). He gave me a prescription, explained to me what was wrong and sent me on my way. I cannot recommend Dr. Chen and the overall UMD Urgent Care - Union Square clinic enough! I have seen Dr. Chen a few times at this location and have always received care of the highest quality! Dr. Chen is professional and friendly and is diligent and thorough in his approach. I have come in a few times not knowing what the cause of my symptoms was and he has always promptly worked with me to both make me feel heard as a patient and efficiently find and treat the cause. By the time I've left the clinic, they have already called in any medicines I might need, and I pick them up and move on with my day. He has even gone out of his way to follow up with tests results and answer my sometimes many questions! After such positive experiences, anytime a friend or colleague of mine is sick, I recommend them to Dr. Chen and UMD Urgent Care - Union Square. My entire family has been in here several times and it's a great service to the community to have it there. (My family includes my husband and I and our 3 teenage boys). We've gone for things ranging from a sliced finger, a sprained ankle, flu, random hip pain, and more. The staff is super friendly and nice, it's always a fast and easy experience. Dr Chen is professional, highly competent, practical, responsive and caring. In addition to traditional medicine he also has some valuable non-Western training in acupuncture and other therapies which has been super helpful in adding perspective. We use this practice in addition to our regular doctors when we want to take care of something quickly, economically, and without a fuss. Thank you to the full staff. read more

I cut the tip of my finger during a shift in the area on a Sunday. Unfortunately my normal clinic is closed on Sunday's so I ended up here. The "Doctor" literally insisted that I lie back so that I didn't have to watch him work. It took him the better part of an hour to do FOUR STITCHES. He wrapped my thumb and sent me on my way. When I went to re-wrap it later (it was far too tight and cutting off my circulation) I noticed that the stitches were poorly done, the wound was poorly wrapped, and over stuffed with gauze. I will be going to my regular clinic and hope that this isn't irreparable. In addition, the nurse stepped out to prep the following patient and came back to my exam room to discuss the other patient. I did not expect much from this place, but it was the nearest to me when I sprained my ankle a few days ago. I have no complaints at all about my treatment, which was courteous and professional, and exactly what I needed until I could get to an orthopedic specialist. They took xrays, correctly diagnosed a small fracture, wrapped my ankle, provided me with a temporary boot, sold me crutches at a reasonable price, gave me the xrays on a CD-ROM (for $10). I would not go here for any non-emergency, or for a serious ailment, but for the type of injury that I suffered, they were terrific and convenient, and I recommend them highly. read more

I would definitely recommend this urgent care clinic in the heart of NYC. I booked my appt an hour before I went on ZocDoc.com on a Saturday. They were incredibly polite & the clinic is high quality in every way. The nurse was great. The doctor I saw was Dr. Alexander Ostrovsky. He was so friendly & clearly highly experienced (affiliated with Mt. Sinai Hospital). He diagnosed a serious condition that was completely unexpected almost instantly & managed to put my fears to rest-all this on a Saturday afternoon. read more

I came to Union Square because it was one of the few urgent care centers in NYC that accepted my insurance. It is conveniently located and the staff is friendly. I had a decent experience (they called my prescriptions into the wrong pharmacy so I had to call back and have them transferred) but overall I thought they were reliable. Then I got the bill. There was a $300 charge that I was never told about that is simply a global charge that covers their overhead. I was charged in two separate bills over $500 for a 40 minute visit, 25 minutes of which was spent waiting on the doctor. Do not go here unless you want to be made sick all over again because of wasted hours arguing over ridiculous and undisclosed charges! read more

While my original experience was very positive, I have had some billing nightmares after my first and second visits that are still unresolved even after 6 months. My original visit was not submitted properly to my insurance and therefore billed towards my deductible as opposed to just a copay, and when they resubmitted it, it still didn't go through properly. My second visit I did blood work, and paid the full fee up front to avoid the insurance disaster, but their labs keep sending me a bill for over $400 that the billing department was supposed to have taken care of, but after numerous emails over the past 3 months, this issue is still unresolved. They are a very friendly group and I have had a positive experience with my visits there, but unfortunately have had major issues with regards to the billing. read more

I came in with extreme nausea and was told that I must be pregnant. When I provided compelling evidence that I was not pregnant (I'd just gotten my period and hadn't been sexually active with men any time in the last year), they told me that perhaps my period had been a miscarriage. When I insisted I had never been pregnant and the nausea was caused by something else, they simply told me to take B vitamins and had no other advice. For this I paid $125. If you are reading this, USUMC, do not make a habit of insulting your patients' intelligence. Women know how babies are made. read more

Everyone was nice & doctor saw me quickly. They tack on basic unnecessary procedures to drive up the cost of your visit. Buyer beware. If you go in blindly they will definitely take advantage of you. This is also probably the most disorganized front office I have ever seen. It took 40 minutes for them to figure out how to print out an itemized receipt that I needed to submit to my insurance. The same insurance they told me they accepted over the phone just to get me there.I left disgusted after 50 minutes & asked them to email it to me. I followed up with the doctor because I had a relapse of bronchitis 2 days after I finished my antibiotics. They refused to refill my prescription and said I had to come back in. Basically to spend another $260. No thanks! Never again! read more

This is the absolute best "urgent care" there is in NYC. It's always incredibly clean. The one thing that always stands out to me is how nice it smells, you would think you walked into a spa! The staff is incredibly friendly, especially the receptionist Peter at the front desk. He's very patient and informative. It's very obvious that he cares about each and every patients visit. Lastly, Dr. Nivens....LOVE HER. This woman knows her stuff. The two times I've been seen by her, she always knows EXACTLY what's wrong with me! She takes one look, diagnosis me, explains it in a way that I understands, sends in a prescription and I'm out the door. To sum it up, this place is AWESOME! read more

This place doesn't even have an answering machine. One of the doctors wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic with penicillin even though she knew I am very allergic to penicillin. They are wildly incompetent, disorganized, and lose test results. My wife and I went in for flu shots. Everything was straightforward until the billing. They billed our insurance for full office visits in addition to the shots. Needless to say, this was shady; why would I agree to a $90 office visit for a flu shot if I could get one at Duane Reade for under $40? After I called to protest the charges, I was told to disregard the bills. Good thing I called! Normally when I get a $90 bill it's because someone expects me to pay it, not "disregard" it. So the end of the story is good, but look at the number of reviews citing shady billing practices and decide whether this urgent care facility is the best one to go to. Cut my finger and needed stitches. They saw me right away. Very clean. Great nurse and doctor. They took my insurance and were able to glue my wound shut and avoid the stitches. They gave me a Tetanus shot and I was out of there. Highly recommended. read more
