Apparently my nephew has been getting bullied by two students, one which has demanded the toys of my nephew which now all but one have been returned. Now the teacher in charge is refusing to stop further bullying in light of the the bully's skin color. Now my nephew has been written up as a trouble maker in the situation and was said "He's being a pussy" by one of the educational staff. Is this the type of conflict resolution we should expect from this school? As an educator myself, I'd expect better out of people who are there to shape the minds of the future and be able to find creative ways of solving problems? If this school cannot stop child bullying, then why should we have confidence in their education abilities. If my nephew isn't being protected at Nibley Park Elementary, then can I enroll him in self defense?...Then what's the repercussions if there's an injury? Is that a school issue they'll deal with then or is my nephew in trouble for protecting himself when the school refuses? Supposedly Nibley Park Elementary has a zero bullying tolerance policy, but it seems to only be enforced when students skin color match. I'm not asking for any students to be removed or punished, but simply a teaching and learning experience for the students and teachers to resolve a conflict between people at their most vulnerable stages in life. These are children & they are being shaped by actions and inactions of their environment, so it would seem to be a opportunity for the school to step up as educators and solve a problem between small vulnerable people before it's a life long habit for the kids and educators. I will comeback to this post if the matter is resolved or the situation changes.

My son struggled with his handwriting, pronunciation, and letters prior to attending Carden; his progress after just a couple months is incredible. His teachers believe in him and are so patient, they recognize his strengths and that has given him so much confidence. Ms. Reese is a far better alternative and a dedicated teacher. Ms. Bares missed 10+ days of a term at the end of the term and work/testing that normally would have been done was not. Though I understand the reason she missed 10 days I am at a complete loss as to how this approach was in any way beneficial to the kids for which she was responsible. There was an expectation on her part to be allowed the time off but she refused any consideration as to how that might impact her classes and the children's grades. Her approach was discussed at length with herself, the principal and the district. The principal and the district claim their hands are tied and the teacher utterly refused to even discuss the issue and stormed out of our meeting indignant that she was being questioned. The school is a newer facility with air conditioning which is a definite plus and it is a feeder to Skyline which is also still currently a plus. It is close to the freeway so accessibility is good. However I would seriously be reconsidering another school if I had any younger children. PS. Playing games with parents and trying to somehow trip them up over whether a sick student used a cell phone or not is also not appreciated. If my child is sick and I come to get them I'm not in the mood to play 20 questions. Really the desperate attempts to somehow control the kids and the parents is really very off-putting.

I could post over a hundred examples, but rest assured that she really embraces the "power" of controlling children. I assume, like many employees in an administrative role, that she was stepped on when SHE was in Jr High and High School, but now she sees herself as the one that finally has the ability to step on others. When talking to her over the phone she won't answer any questions, but is quick to accuse every kid of terrible things. When asked directly what the kid(s) are guilty of, she has no answer. I believe that sending any child here is just a waste of the kids' & parents' time. I wish they would just take the time to hire some quality (and qualified) people that actually care about children.

Just so you know the tours start at 3:30 once school gets out! It looked like they had guided tours, but we ended up doing the self guided tour. They even give you a little map/souvenir to help you find all the places around the school! Everyone we encountered who worked at the school was so sweet. I bought a HSM shirt at the front office, and I absolutely love it! I got to see everything from the cafeteria to the front of the school to Sharpay's locker to the iconic gym where Troy Bolton sang Getcha head in the game. It was an experience I'll never forget, and it made me want to watch high school musical all over again! You need to come here if you loved HSM and if you're in Utah!
