They should stop trying to upsale you when doing cataract surgery, for instance using laser or premium lenses. Laser isn't necessary and they charge a lot of money which is out of pocket. read more

As one grows older in life, you learn to take your health needs and wants much more seriously. This was certainly the case with myself as I realized my eyesight was not as good as it used to be and that driving at night was becoming increasingly difficult. My wife of 56 years became proactive and started searching the Internet for what might be reasonable options for me given our circumstances in these our "golden years". Thanks to her initial efforts and her past work experience in healthcare, I took responsibility for my own well-being by consulting doctors that we knew personally and whose judgement we trusted beyond their current medical affiliations. We jointly concluded that Highland Ophthalmology Associates in New Windsor, NY looked like the best bet for the diagnosis and treatment of any eye disorder that had started plaguing me. I am very happy to attest that the treatment that I obtained under Dr. Mathew, addressed my needs, and my eyesight has improved dramatically, so much so, that I no longer suffer with not seeing well at night. The Docs here MIGHT be good, but the office staff is HORRIBLE! They do not follow up with insurance, do not fill out pre-authorization forms and do not communicate accurate information to patients. They cause painful eye situations to last a l-o-n-g time. Avois this practice. read more

Researched doctors throughout Hudson Valley and beyond. The docs here are best in class, and the facility and staff are top notch. I use them for everything and anything eye-related. They are surgeons, but also have optometrists on site, so it's also where I get my glasses and contacts (great prices, surprisingly!). Unfortunately , I am about to post my first negative review: I was compelled to leave Dr . Davidian's practice due to trust issues . For the past few years , she and her colleagues gave me conflicting advice . She was unable to give me a conclusive eye exam due to dry eyes, according to her , yet , at the same time recommended surgery for narrow angle and cataracts. During that same appointment ,she earlier had said the laser for narrow eyes was not needed . When I questioned her further , she blamed my dry eyes for the uncertain diagnosis and prescribed a $500 ( with insurance) eye drop medication. When one of my clients told me that she had the exact same experience with Dr . Davidian , I was even more concerned . I n seeking a second opinion , I found a wonderful Ophthalmologist , who gave the most thorough eye exam of my life( dry eyes was not a problem) and explained my situation and plan to move forward in great , understandable detail . And now , after two months of waiting for my medical records , Dr Davidian's office informs me that they need $29 to release them ... read more

I had a last minite emergency come up at work and called them to cancel and reschedule my appt. They said I might have to pay a cancellation fee. I have never cancelled an appt in my life, no or charged a fee. I explained to them I had no choice. When I checked in at my rescheduled appt they told me I owed them $75 for as a cancel fee! I told them I have never cancelled before but they didn't care. The business manager looked at my file and said that I only signed a paper two years ago that agreed to pay a $25 cancel fee. I thought about it for a moment and paid it with the intention of getting through my visit and never coming back. A month went by and I got a bill from them today for a $75 cancel fee!!! I will take these people to court before I pay this. How can this business do this to thier patients and still expect them to come back? STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!! read more

ASK ABOUT INSURANCE FIRST!! I had an eye exam at Highland Op. and my wife has been a patient of Dr. Davidian for a few years. This office is covered under our vision insurance. BUT- that is ONLY if you are seeing the opthalmologist. I saw an optometrist in the same office, and that is NOT covered, which I was not told when I called to make an appointment, nor when I came in to sign in and fill out paperwork, even after my insurance card was copied. The difference? For my wife and I: $300 total out of pocket, vs. $50 if we had gone to another optometrist, using our insurance coverage. Buyer beware!! The front desk was at fault, in my opinion, and this took all afternoon waiting and being seen, to boot! read more

Dr DAVIDIAN saved my sight. My eye had blown during a cataract surgery and hard as he tried, the surgeon just couldn't help me. I was in pain, frightened and unsure if that eye would ever be right. This office squeezed me in that week. That's why you sometimes have to wait-they will see you for emergencies even if it messes up the schedule. I had cataract surgery performed on March 7, 2019 I came out of the surgery with a massive cornea edema which luckily did go away, however I ended up with verse vision after the operation then I had coming into the operation. At best now I have 20/50 vision, before under good lighting conditions it is more in the vicinity of 20/20, but due to the cataract such was not possible in lowlight conditions. I have been advise I now probably require Laski Surgery to correct the problem at another cost of about $2,500 which I am told I will have to pay for personally? Highland Ophthalmology seems to be taking no responsibility. I am only hear numerous excuses and cannot obtain my Medical Records which I have a legal right to have. I have been waiting months for my Medical Records so other surgeons can determine what went wrong and how to correct the problem. I paid premium prices including Laser Cataract Surgery cost of $1,600 which probably was a contributing cause to the problem, I was not informed of the risks of cataract laser surgery., and the dangers I was be exposed too. read more

Dr. Powell truly guided me in the best direction for contact lenses. I started wearing contact lenses after years of wearing glasses and she gave me her honest opinions about different contact lens brands. Instead of  looking to profit by selling me the most expensive contact lens brand, she was patient in helping me trial run multiple contact lens brands. She was my third opinion for contact lenses and I felt that she gave me the most straightforward answers and put my best interests first. I went here and although the visit was OK, I continually ( 6 mths) get billed for a large charge that they coded wrong when they sent it to my insurance, they didn't bill an expensive retinal scan as "medically necessary for a diagnosis". When I found this out, I called their billing to tell them to resubmit their claim with the correct code. they said they would but the insurance company said they did NOT. In the meantime I call over and over to tell them they never resubmitted it with the correct code or they would have been paid, and for weeks it's just machines and they don't even return calls, yet keep sending bills saying my payment is months late! Be very careful about going here if you don't want billing problems. I'm still dealing with this 8 months after my visit and they don't even get back to me, now I'm worried they'll send it to a collection agency and affect my credit, even though it's a covered charge and would be paid if they fix the code. Things are not as they seem.. nice office but as for trust I don't have any .. I was told by one dr my cataracts were not serious .. and he wasn't understanding that my vision was blurry & very concerning to me so he said my eyes were dry .. not as much as his bedside manner.. he gave me some systane & saw him again in a few months ..after seeing him a couple of times my vision did not improve .. I decided to see a female dr there and she wanted to take cataracts out but again did dry eye explanation & wanted to do the 6000 dollar option with insertable permanent lens ..she really was pushing it...no thanks .I did go to crystal run optho and that was a waste of time .. went across the river and found wonderful dr who really cared and great office staff..my first visit I knew I found the right place and wished I came here sooner and I will from now on.. tomm I am having my astigmatism fixed & cataracts removed ( both one month apart from each other) ..no one suggested to fix the astigmatism at Highland & to do will help greatly with my vision (not free but covered under care credit ) The cataracts removed will be covered by regular ins and he told me in my case I really don't need the unsertable "bionic" lens ..so that's my story about Highland and my trust issues .. two stars for the nice office only and possible other competent doctors I did not make appts there with read more

I will never step foot in this place again. I had to wait for over two hours for my appointment, besides the woman who finally took me in, had the customer service of an ant. I sat in the room for over an hour, was never informed what was taking so long. I had to hear two women talking about being taken out in an ambulance right outside my room, in ANOTHER waiting area, for 25 minutes, as my door was left open. My eyes were dilated, and when asked to sign three different forms, needless to say I could not see a thing. I could have signed for my entire estate being given away. Finally, when the Dr. did come in, she was as condescending as all get out. I went there for just an eye exam. I felt she pushed all these tear drop things on me just to get rid of her free supply. When I questioned her about having cataracts, she was as rude as could be. I am an educated person, and MY time is just as valuable as hers. I will NEVER return! read more

I was referred to Highland Ophthalomology by my eye doctor because I had an injury to my eye that required a specialist. I had the extreme misfortune of being assigned to Doctor Thien Huynh. He was rude and condescending - he behaved as though he was doing me a favor by examining me. I would NEVER recommend him. I left the office shocked by his insensitive attitude. read more

My appointment at Highland Opthalmology was with Dr Mary Davidian. I'm almost 60 years old and have dealt with many professionals in my life. I can honestly say this woman had the worst bedside manner I have ever seen in a doctor. In addition, she was not well informed regarding the illness that I consulted her about, and I knew more than she did about many issues that were involved in treatment. According to their website, she sees at least 35 patients a day, and perhaps that explains why she doesn't like to spend more than a few minutes with you even though she charges top dollar for her service. She seemed to bristle each time I asked a question and clearly tried to rush me out of there as quickly as possible. I also went to this appointment with another friend who saw Dr Davidian separately, and my friend's impression was exactly the same as mine: that of a rude, rushed, arrogant, and avaricious lady. After my appointment, when I said I wanted copies of my exams, she refused and said I'd have to get me through my other doctor. (Even though before I'd first scheduled an appointment I expressly stated that I'd need copies of my paperwork, and they had agreed to provide it for me.) Knowing full well that patients have a right to obtain their treatment file, I then asked the assistant at the front desk for copies. She said that their printer was out of ink. Once I returned home and wrote a letter requesting the paperwork, they took their time about sending it, and I had to phone repeatedly before it finally arrived. The only positive thing I can say is that her assistants, who also ran some tests on me, were helpful, professional, and kind, but Dr Davidian was not. She also made me wait 45 minutes past my scheduled time before seeing me. This was, all in all, a nightmare visit. If I were you I would consider finding more professional and empathic help. read more
