I bet this place would be great if you walk in with a Brione suit on and a hot chick on your arm. Unfortunately, I only had my adidas black sweat top and tennis shoes one and was not treated well. Other customers that perhaps were perceived as bigger paychecks were consistently served before me. At first I sat at the bar to make it easy for the servers. Unfortunately it was only me and I was abandoned after My drink came and no dinner menus came despite being asked and responding that yes, I need them. So, I took my drink and asked to be seated at a table. the table next to me had about 8 people seated after me, and again they were able to order drinks before my waitress came to me. So, looks matter in this restaurant - a lot! That is never a good sign. My waitress is probably in the wrong career as she was brusque and seemed put off at having to serve 1 person. Maybe she was cursed with being German as I am. The wedge salad I ordered was two small wedge pieces instead of the normal 1 large piece and was ok, but underwhelming in both the size and the amount of blue cheese which was a bit sparse. The 6 oz fillet seemed more like 4 and was ok - the baked potato noticeably smaller than most but loaded at least. The restaurant scene is Helena is pitiful, to be honest. Billings is the place in Montana to be for restaurants. Maybe Bozeman or Missoula but unfortunately, the capital is lacking. I had New York steak a couple days ago. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The steak was as thick as it should be. The restaurant was quiet and nicely decorated. The waitress, Ramona, was great. She checked in on us frequently to make sure everything was good. There were several options for sides. I chose baked potato with sour cream. My coworker picked sweet potato fries. Solid modern Montana steakhouse. Just my first time here because I favor the old school haunts. But so much to recommend--comfy welcoming vibe, lots of hustle and bustle. Our server Jordan was on top of it all evening. Good appetizers--recommend the mushrooms, and beer served cold. New England clam chowder, only on Fridays they tell me, is a must--so creamy and plenty of crabmeat. Caesar salad is superior. Impressed by the ribeye--nicely marbled, cooked perfectly. I was visiting Helena and my friend - who lives in Helena - suggested Silver Star. I was so impressed!! The Tenderloin and shrimp Bruschetta, which they deconstructed for me and did the shrimp, Cajun style for my friend, on the side as I'm allergic to shellfish was outstanding!!! Melt in your mouth perfectly cooked to medium rare tenderloin was delicious!! The Crab Cake also was very good!! Both were delivered by the Chef Ben, who was so nice!!! The crème brûlée was delicious too!! Chef Ben's talent shows up in his menu and the food he and his kitchen deliverers!!! Our waitstaff was excellent as well! My wife and I had dinner here about three years ago, and it was not a great experience. However, last night was our anniversary, and we decided to give it another try. I'm so glad we did because the dinner was amazing. The service was excellent--our server was attentive without being overbearing and very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. While the place itself hasn't changed much, the food and atmosphere certainly have. The drinks were fantastic, and for an appetizer, we had steak tips in a blue cheese and bacon sauce, which were incredible. We both ordered the small filet, the wedge salad, and the duchess potato--all were perfectly prepared and delicious. I added garlic and herb butter to my steak, which was also excellent. I'm very happy we came back, and we'll definitely make this one of our regular spots. I highly recommend it! read more

If you go left its a trip to a serious dining room with a coziness to it! All the finishes are of solid craftsmanship and mix together with a style that is traditionalist yet modern business! Our server, Ramona blew me away! She was sharp, witty and relaxed! Led me right through the menu selections like she knew me to a tee! Drinks were exceptional, price and pours were spot on! I went for the Buffalo Rib Eye! Locally sourced, and an impressive cut! I order it RARE! Of course! And damned if it didn't come out perfectly( see photo) it was delicious! My family ordered multiple cuts of steak, all of which were good. I decided to order a new York steak Philly cheese steak. This was by far the worst Philly cheese steak sandwich I have ever had. Instead of sliced meat it was a flavorless, fatty, and tough slab of new York steak. The sandwich itself lacked the cheese it was supposed to have on it, and really only tasted of the poorly seasoned onions, red peppers and awful steak. The bread that made up the sandwich was actually very flavorful, the highlight of the dish was the bread and the side of fries. The service was great, and the resturant itself wasn't too loud, although more dimly lit that I'd like. Overall definitely a great place to come for dinner, just don't waste your time or money on the Philly cheese steak sandwich. read more

Finally someone came to help all of us but didn't seem friendly nor exactly happy to seat anyone. We arrived on a Thursday night to an unexpected full house. When the hostess asked us if we had a reservation, we said no. She promptly said she would see what she could do. We got a table in the restaurant and were very pleased with the greeting we received from our waitress Jordyn. She took our drink orders and informed us of the specials and also that we could order from the bar menu as well. We usually split an entree when we are in the U.S. because the portions are so large. I asked if we could share a wedge salad and she said she could get the kitchen to give us each a half portion. My salad came with blue cheese crumbles and blue cheese dressing; my husband had house made ranch dressing. He ordered the hamburger and I had the filet mignon with the Duchess potato The meals were delicious, the service was excellent. We paid in American dollars what we would pay in Canadian dollars at a steak house back home. The big difference was the service, it was exceptional. read more

Fancy dinner in Helena, this is classic steakhouse. Dark panels, lots of semi-private booths, excellent and attentive service. The salad to start with a sesame dressing was delicious. Mom chose the salmon with a baked potato and pronounced it excellent. The salmon was cooked properly and the potato was fluffy. One issue was that the "Chinese-style" vegetables on the plate were quite cold. Perhaps because the plate itself was cold. Silver Star should consider warming the plates before serving. I chose the buffalo steak with a loaded baked potato. The potato was perfect and nicely topped with the goodies. The buffalo steak was a little underdone (closer to under-rare than medium-rare) but still very delicious. A good meaty cut with zero fat and nicely seared outside. The mushroom sauce with it was a great accompaniment. Overall, I'm a fan. read more

They overcook their steaks. But the service is amazing. Jasmine was exceptional. We had an amazing manhattan and martini. Their "boneless wings" aren't chicken nuggets but actual chicken wings with the bones removed. Clever and delicious. The baked potato and mashed potatoes were top notch. But our steak was ordered medium rare and was firmly a medium. Dry and mealy. We sent it back and they bright back a medium well steak, but at least it wasn't dry. They apparently have no idea how to cook a steak, but their service and other items are great. I just wish I hadn't wasted $45 on that piece of meat. But wait! There's more! As bad as the steak was we went back the next day. Everything else is 5 stars! Seriously! Shayla was an amazing server. The fat washed Manhattan was excellent (never heard of fat washing but it combines a few of my favorite things!). We got the bison burger with the huckleberry bbq on the side. Good thing, because the burger was not over-cooked and perfectly charred with fresh veggies and a soft bun. And the onion rings are maybe the best I have had--crunchy beer batter crust and the onion was still fresh and crisp. The French fries are fresh and have that great potatoey flavor that isn't lost in the frying. Shayla sold us on the cheesecake and it was as light as a butterfly with the huckleberry sauce adding a touch of sweet and tartness. This place is amazing! The service is 6 stars (is that a thing? We made a last minute reservation on valentines weekend. The only open slot was 8:30 but with a phone call a few hours later, Cindy got us a 6:30 time slot. The staff was working hard and seemed very attentive upon our arrival. Our server Kelli provided amazing service and the timing of our cocktails, appetizers, main course and dessert were on point. The tenderloin medallions were very tender and flavorful and the baseball tenderloin was cooked to the perfect temp topped with a bit of lobster. I was sad to see that some of our favorite menu items were changed or gone. Whiskey grilled steak appetizer and crab dip are gone. While I realize that it could be a Covid change, I feel like this was not a great choice to remove from the menu. Also, the bread with dinner is replaced with breadsticks... and butter. We had a great experience at the Silver Star for dinner. We had a reservation for 5:00 on a Thursday before going to a 7:00 movie which was plenty of time. Promptly sat our server came to grab our drink orders and went over the menu a little bit. I enjoyed the Aperol Spritz and my husband, the Traditional Old Fashioned. There are 3 menus; cocktails/wine, bar and regular. You can order from all 3 which we did. The shrimp rangoons to start (husband did since I am allergic) and each of us had steak. Both were seasoned and cooked perfectly and come with your choice of potato, as well as a small basic salad and bread. Overall experience was great and our meal delicious. Next time we will enjoy the outdoor patio and try items from the bar menu. read more
