When a bunch of us want to go out and have some casual fun and beer, we go here. There are tv's everywhere (one at each table, plus big screens elsewhere), plenty of pool tables, free ping pong, darts, and good sized bar. They have a good assortment of beers on tap, can make tasty mixed drinks, and the music works well for us. They have daily drink specials, and I've even been here for breakfast that was pretty darn tasty (the special of the day: chicken fried steak Omelet with gravy on top). Where else can you go for breakfast and have a tasty pint of IPA? It's not a fancy place, there's no dance floor, the furniture is, well, bar furniture, but it's fun. We'll keep coming back. In fact, I wish it was a little closer to town. It's up in the hills south of town, and you need to drive through a residential neighborhood to get there, but it's a nice find. read more

Not fancy. Lots of beer on tap. I am a fan of the Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries. Friendly staff - though inconsistent with how fast you might get service. Sometimes we sit for awhile before anyone comes to check on us. Not a big problem! Pool tables, ping pong, and lots of TV's. Our go to place for a cheap and easy meal (with beer!). read more

This is an awesome bar if you're looking for something to do beyond just having a drink. They have so many different games to play! Food has been really good each time I've been. Breakfast is awesome, love the sausage and gravy and omelettes. The bloody Mary is pretty good slightly spicy but not overly spicy. Really like the free pool days. Overall just a nice neighborhood place to hang out! read more

Our high school reunion weekend started with a Friday night meet and greet here on July 31, 2015 - we upped the median age of the customers by a fair amount and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Most of our classmates didn't know that Highlands even existed, but they assured me that they would be back again. It was noisy, to be sure, but it was a Friday night and with the regulars our group of 61 filled it to the brim. Dan and Mike the bartender/waitperson kept turning the jukebox volume down when requested, and generally made us feel very welcome. I knew I stuck out like a sore thumb a little, seeing as it was mainly a sports and pool bar and I was a young, introverted woman. But I came to meet a date who stood me up, and the bartender who took my order was friendly and supportive. He helped me not feel like an idiot, being by myself and uninterested in what was on the televisions. Had a cider and tater tots and went on my way. When you need a good place to relax, enjoy bar food, and play pool, the Highlands is a chill place. They have shuffle board, too. It's a little bit of a dive bar, so don't go if you are expecting upscale Eugene type-A wine and appetizers bar - this is not that. This is relaxed. The staff here is amazing. They really know how to handle large crowds of 30+ people who funnel in hungry after kickball league each week. The bartenders are friendly and quick with service, and the drinks are always great. This bar has something for everyone. The service is TERRIBLE. The servers and bartenders spent the majority of their time chatting with the regulars than assisting other guests. The group of people at the table next to us was belligerent (at 4pm) and extremely rude and inconsiderate. They kept making snarky comments to us and at one point the server joined in. Like seriously? I guess she doesn't care about getting a good tip. The only reason for one star is because they have a goo selection of beer. I made this account just to relate my recent experience here. This is an alright bar and I've always decent service here until very recently. Most of the staff is awesome, but they have recently hired a woman with black hair as a bartender who has consistently given me attitude in uncalled for situations. For example: I came in with a group of people to order a nightcap before heading home. Her service was unduly rude and gruff, and we had an obviously drunk patron come up and harass us. Not only did the bartender ignore the fact that this person was harassing us, they continued serve this patron. The bartender then gave me attitude when I asked the drunk patron to leave us alone. After this ordeal I wished the bartender a good night and we were getting ready leave. They were rude AGAIN! For background information I come to this bar often, and I have always tipped this person well and have been polite in all my interactions. I get along well with all of the other staff and it's a shame that this one bad apple is ruining the bunch. Unfortunately I can no longer recommend this bar, and you would be better off visiting the Flying Squirrel just down the road, where you will receive much better service. read more

There food is stellar! Wow!! Came for the free pool on Saturday night, found that they had 5 pool tables, ping pong, Jenga, shuffle board and darts! Not many people there, so no problems getting to any game we wanted. That was cool. But the food was awesome! My partner had a burger and brew special were they let you pick ANY burger on the menu. Bacon-cheese here we come. I got a steak sandwich that rocked my world. Tender and nicely seared served on a hoagie with home made pesto and grilled veggies. It tasted so good. The place has quite good food, I admit. The problem is the smell of booze and urine combined. From around 11 PM until closing- - It's not 2:30 AM anymore, but 1:30 AM. - - There are always seven or eight people hang around right in front of the door cussing, smoking, and arguing at the top of their lungs. Go before 8 PM, if you want to; otherwise, stay away from it. The clientele become sleazier by the hour after that, to the point that many people would be made uncomfortable, even if they are used to being around bars in general. read more

Went to highlands on a Saturday they had a great beer and burger deal. The service was good and the atmosphere was cool, lot of fun things to do. The group I went with liked it so much we decided to pick a Saturday every month to go out and hang at the highlands. My husband and I were out for the first time in over a year and I recommended this place. I used to live down the street and I always had great memories of it. Unfortunately, this was not an experience we will ever do over. When we walked in the server, Melody was busy making a drink. We sat down and patiently waited to be served. She apparently knew the people who came in after us because she went immediately to them and hung out for a few minutes. She eventually came back to us and was visibly irritated we were there, or maybe she is just has a bad attitude. We finally placed an order and drank 2 beers a piece before my husband went to see where our food was, since it had been over 45 min. She said there must have been a problem, as the order had not been put in. She rudely told me she knew I was upset and I truthfully told her the service sucked. She threatened to throw me out, just for being truthful, and proceeded to charge us over $5 more than we owed. We are actually thankful the food never made it to us, the place is kind of dirty. The worst. I have been going to highlands for over 3yrs. The finger steaks used to be the best in lane county. Last night I orderd the prime rib. It arrived at the table Grey, the fat in the prime was literally puckered and looked like a giant white slug, the grain of the meat was puckered. This happens to meat only when it is flipping boiled, I asked the server what is wrong with it? She said I don't know taste it see if it tastes good. I did it was leathery and no flavor at all.. I ran it back to the bar the original server had gone off shift. I told the other server what the problem was. And asked for the finger steaks! Now keep in mind a order of finger steaks is $8.50 the Prime is $12.99. that is a $4.49 cent difference. The server was going to refund the difference. So I said ya know don't worry about it, just please add and additional half order of finger steaks. She said ok. A few minutes ltr she comes and tells me (she gave me a big basket of fry's and a huge Salad.) I told her I already have a salad, that had been with the prime.) at this point I still thought I was getting additional FS.. 25 mins yes 25 mins go by and no food comes to me.. Keep in mind she gave me was her statement when I was on the patio!! Implying my food was already there. I finally go up and tell her just give me my money I'm done. She says I can't comp 2 meals. I say hey your cook messed up the prime, and 25mins have gone by and my food has not been replaced. Thats on your bar, not me.. She refused. Finally I get my huge Salad, Large Basket of Fry's and the normal single order of finger steaks!!!!!. I was to pissed to eat. So I gave them away. Are you flipping kidding me?? The person I gave them to, could not eat the finger steaks, they were so tuff he said, and did not taste in anyway like the fingers steaks they normally serve.. read more
