It was a month to month membership and they billed me for 4 months I wasn't a member, even though I kept emailing them asking them to stop. At first they said they'd handle it, then they stopped answering my emails altogether. Who knows how much more money they would have taken if I hadn't called my bank. Oh, also I was sick with cancer when they did all this to me. That's why I had to stop training. So that's what I came here to say: 1) DO NOT give them your checking account, give them your Credit Card. This will protect you if they do the same to you. 2) If they keep billing you for multiple months after you cancel, like they did to me, you will have to call your bank to stop the charges and get your bank to fight with them to get your money back. Mine was Bank of America, thank goodness they make it so easy to dispute fraudulent charges. And thank goodness for my friends who own a the Krav Maga studio in another city, for giving me the advice on how to handle a gym that won't stop billing me. I honestly wonder how many people don't know to do that, and how many people's money they "accidentally" keep taking even after the membership was cancelled.

Sure enough, the very polite person on duty turned to the computer, punched a few keys (no pun intended) and then told me I was good to go. What? Why couldn't I do this over the phone? It makes no sense. All I can imagine was the upsell. They tried to upsell me into buying individual sessions. No thanks. Again, great people but poor business practices. Took one star off of my 3 star rating. Here I am now (June) doing a few bills online. What's this I see? 9Round charged me for June? Huh? The space is always clean and well organized. Russel has been the only trainer I've worked with so far and he's great. He is super friendly, but also brings a level of joking that makes you feel like you've been coming there for months rather than days. While he is nice, he's also there to make you work. He pushes and motivates you to work harder. Maybe more importantly, his playlists are always on point. He has been very helpful whenever I ask what a move is or how to do it, I have never felt nervous about asking for help like I have in other places. I've been stuck in a funk where I've missed all the mid-day classes at most gyms and would have to go home, disrupt our evening routine to drive somewhere else, then get back to a delayed bedtime for my kid. 9 Round is the best because there are no class times. I pop in right when they open in the afternoon and get home right when the rest of my family does. I've been bringing all my co-workers here. I saw this place being recommended by many of the local moms in the Maple Valley/Covington Mom group on facebook, so I checked out their website and found that Han Mu Do incorporates Aikido/Hapkido in their teaching! I contacted Washington Han Mu Do for my son to attend the trial class. My son loved the trial class, and he wanted to continue (He is one of the most undecisive kid on this earth, and him wanting to continue is a big deal). It's been almost 2 months since he started, and he loves the classes. The environment is very family friendly and they teach the kids respect and discipline in addition to martial arts (which my son needs badly). Their prime location is also what sealed the deal for us. They are located within close distance from the local elementary schools, which makes it convenient to take my son to the class after picking him up from the after school program. In the same center, there is Taco Time and McDonalds just across the street for easy dinner after the class.

While Han Mu Do is a good form of martial arts, the Maple Valley location is the only location in Washington State. You will likely start over if you leave. With only a few licensed instructors, mature students are often relied upon heavily to lead lower students and classes. Favorites are compensated, others are not. As a result, the schedule is not reliable due to leader availability. Unlike Washington Han Mu Do, other martial arts studios often include some aspects of Asian philosophy, such as an active focus on the balance between mind and body, meditation as part of the session, and understanding that spirit and body need to be in harmony. This studio is about forms, sets, and workouts. Repeat. Overall, a good cost to experience ratio when compared to a gym or other exercise place. But is that really what you wanted to do when you join a martial arts studio?

I've taken classes taught by every instructor -- their instructions are clear and they always put an emphasis on safety and care. The instructors quickly troubleshoot each student's execution of the techniques and provide individualized tips or customizations to accommodate individual strengths or weaknesses (e.g., a less flexible back, etc.). Often, the instructors will demonstrate the technique 1:1, showing how a correct execution should feel -- super helpful. I've trained with many other students so far, and I've experienced that same caring energy and focus on teaching from each of them. The techniques are also available online with great emphasis on detail, which further eases and accelerates learning both before and after class. The sessions are simultaneously challenging, enjoyable, intellectually stimulating, and a great workout. Also big thanks to coach Ben, with whom I've trained the most -- a fantastic teacher! NAK2 is an excellent team to train and learn BJJ with, and I couldn't be more excited about this gym and their classes.

I signed up both my seven and five year old sons and never looked back. One of the best parenting decisions I have made. My oldest has gained considerable confidence and belief in himself, while my five year old son is showing more respect and curbing his quick temper. They show the Tae Kwon Do moves and also explain the way you would use them in a real life application. If a student is in need of more assistance with a specific move they will have an instructor, or peer with a higher belt work solo with them to ensure that they get it.
