I've been coming here since 2009. And I won't stop. The entire staff is fantastic. Dr. Wolcott is particularly friendly and knowledgeable which is what keeps me coming back. Somehow he actually makes a dental visit fun. I highly recommend this practice. Dr. Wolcott and the other Dentists, Hygienists, Dental Assistants, and even the front desk staff are all really helpful. When I have to occasionally call with a question (scheduling, billing, whatever) whomever I speak with is extremely accommodating. I was referred to Dr. Walcott and Hillendale smiles who claimed he was the best. I of course was very skeptical as I've had less than good experiences with dentists in the past. IT was easy to schedule an appointment, and the entire staff has been nothing but kind and courteous. The office infection control protocols go above and beyond anything I've ever seen. From disinfecting the air in the office every evening to having patients swish some listerine before starting. I went there for a cleaning, and then Dr. Walcott discovered in exrays that when my lower wisdom teeth were extracted, over 30 years ago, parts of the root were left connected on both sides. On the right side there was an infection so Dr. Walcott removed the piece of root on both sides, and gave me antibiotics. It cleared up. He earned my confidence which is not an easy thing to do. I asked about correcting my bite getting a nice smile. I've had multiple sclerosis for over 40 years. All the medications took toll on my teeth, how I could chew and smile. He created treatment plans to separately reflect bite correction, to making my teeth pretty. After my bite was corrected, which involved implants, I took a couple months decide whether to go forward with prettying my front teeth with veneers and crowns. I decided to go all the way. Ive never shown my teeth in pictures when smiling. I was ashamed of my teeth which were crooked and discolored. I could not find a before picture of my teeth, but have plenty of after pictures. Which I will attach. If I find any old picture, I'll edit my review to amend. I highly recommend Dr. Walcott and Hillandale Smiles. I was not pleased with their billing process. I always pay my bills. I recently received a debt collections from Global Credit Network located in Gaithersburg, MD. The company through a formal written notice stated that I owed a balance of $235.22. This bill was due nearly a year ago. I never received a mailed bill, calls, or emails from the dental practice. When I called Hillandale Smiles, I was informed that they sent me a bill which never happened. The woman at the dental office that I spoke to was very vague and not polite. Pros: N/A Cons: I was scheduled for a free consultation for orthodontics and oral surgery. I confirmed three separate times that the consultation would be free. I was baffled to see an unauthorized charge for the consultation to my dental insurance company. I spoke to two very rude office staff about the unauthorized charge, but both said the practice had a right to charge for the office visit. However, the consultation was verified three times to be free. I filed a a complaint with my dental insurance company since the practice was unwilling to reverse the consultation fee. read more

I had filling at this place November 2020, and it was horrible; I went again because it was hurting too much, and the dentist said she fixed it but the pain was there I went again, and same thing happen it is over a year now and I can't eat in that side of my mouth because it still hurt. My daughter had been away from home for years, and had not been to a Dentist during that time. She suffers from extreme anxiety. Dr Walcott and his staff are wonderful, patient, and understanding. When we first started to have her teeth worked on, she was so scared we need to use gas. I went to Dr. Wolcott as a child and--after years of moving around and having dentists that seemed like they might be incompetent or trying to rip me off--I returned to his practice as an adult. I am very happy with this decision! He is both highly competent and trustworthy. Awesome service - clean, professional, wonderful environment!! This was my second visit - as a new patient. Dr. Alan is humorous while educational with what is going on with your teeth. His assistant, Ayalnesh, was just as sweet and helpful in keeping me calm with my procedure (had an extraction). She was attentive and made me feel absolutely at home. The Front Desk staff are quick with the check in's and check out's and just as pleasant. This place has a great team. This practice has more than one name - Hillandale Smiles & Dental Health Associates. I use a Medicaid insurer, and my old dentist isn't covered. Dr. Wolcott takes Medicaid, and was well reviewed on Yelp, so I made an appointment for a dental cleaning, x-rays, and exam. When I got there, they said Dr. Wolcott wasn't there. I let them hand me off to another dentist. They required me to pay $5 extra for a viral rinse which hadn't been mentioned on the phone. They said an ordinary cleaning wasn't enough, that I would need a full mouth debridement at another appointment, but went ahead with the x-rays and exam. She said I needed $1277 in work, including the debridement, 2 cavities and an onlay, none of which would be covered by my Medicaid insurer, and that I probably needed additional work that she would diagnose after the debridement. I called my insurer, was told that all of those might be covered, but that the dentist hadn't asked for authorization. I asked the dentist office for copies of the results of the exam and x-rays; they said there would be a lot of paperwork, that I would have to pay $25 for the x-rays, and that the other diagnosis were "proprietary". My old dentist said they would do if for a few hundred dollars less, including complete new exam and x-rays. When I got there, she said I did not need a full mouth debridement; a normal cleaning would be adequate; I had no cavities - but that an onlay wouldn't hold the tooth together, that a crown would be better (which they would do at the same price), and that no additional work was needed. She said many dentists ask for the full mouth debridement for new patients, so they can see all the work that has been done. Perhaps the misdiagnosis occurred because the first dentist hadn't cleaned my teeth. All in all, I saved at least $382 by paying out of pocket to my old dentist. Had my old dentist been covered by my insurer, they would possibly have covered everything - $1284 less. So: dentist switch, the extra fees and services, failure to ask my insurance company and misstated policies, mis-diagnosis, high prices. I give them Dental Health Associates/Hillandale Smiles 1 star. After over 10 years of being a patron of Hillandale Smiles, I've had it. The key reason I patron this facility has always been the convenience and the phenomenal Dental Hygienist (Michele). The front staff lacks miserably proper bedside manner. The thing that tip the scale was when I went for my cleaning, the front desk clerk proceeded to tell me that I had an outstanding balance, I asked what it was for and she indicated it was for a nightguard, I asked if the request was submitted to my insurance and she said that it was denied. Now I had already checked with my insurance to confirm that it was covered, also, the dental office financial person (Chris) said he also checked and confirmed that it was covered. After being denied service until the outstanding balance was paid, I left and called my insurance company, to my surprise they indicated that a request for payment was not received for the appliance. I then called the dental office and shared this information with them, I also told them I didn't appreciate being strong-armed to pay a bill without giving me an opportunity to resolve the problem with the insurance company. So a couple of months later, again I arrived for cleaning and again the front desk clerk told me that I had an outstanding balance, again for the same appliance. I told her I don't understand, there is obviously a breakdown in communication, and asked that we call the insurance company together to help resolve the problem, she said that wouldn't be possible and again refused service until the bill was paid. Again I left and called my insurance company and to my surprise, they told me that a request for payment was not received. After the front desk clerk told me that the request was submitted July 27th and the response was received on August 24th, my appointment was October 4th, I asked myself why didn't I receive a bill for the outstanding balance earlier and why did the dental office wait until I arrived for service to tell me about the outstanding balance only to refuse service... I asked the front desk clerk why nothing was communicated to me earlier, the office called me twice to confirm my appointment, why couldn't something have been said at that time... because their model is "for the good of the office" and therefore the policy is to strong-arm the patients to collect payment and avoid dealing with the insurance companies. To that end, the insurance company offered to call the dental office directly to try to resolve the problem, she spoke to the front desk clerk and explained what she understood the problem was, she asked the clerk to submit the request for payment to the insurance company for payment, the insurance rep indicated that the front desk clerk gave her a hard time about it, but felt that she would and would keep me posted. I shared my experience with the insurance rep so she had some background, she was obviously appalled by this. No one regardless of status, race or ethnicity should be treated with such disregard. State of the art equipment and competent, friendly professionals make sure you get the best treatment. I most recently broke a tooth in half (biting on a peppercorn, would you believe!), and I was very appreciative they where able to schedule me in within hours. Positive remarks for the hygienist, she did a good job cleaning my teeth. Doctor is more eager to treat your hidden cavities detected by a laser diagnostic tool than adopting a "wait and see" approach. I went to another dentist for a second opinion and was told I didn't need to do anything coz, guess what, that laser tool will always pick some "hidden" cavities up. So I'm neutral toward the doctor. The big negative about this clinic is the irresponsible way they handle insurance and billing. I went in for a routine teeth cleaning. After cleaning I put down 20% deposit for a tooth filling (as I mentioned earlier I got a 2nd opinion and canceled my tooth filling). When I called them to cancel, they said oh yeah your insurance company didn't cover your tooth cleaning so your tooth filling deposit "was used to cover the outstanding balance". They probably never called my insurance company to figure out coz my insurance covers 2 cleanings per year. They also didn't bother to call me to tell me about this and took it upon themselves to use my deposit (for another procedure) and apply it to the outstanding balance on tooth cleaning. I called my insurance company and they said they didn't receive any claim in the past few months! I'm appalled by the way they will use your money at will, without ever thinking of calling or notifying me in advance. If this isn't fraudulent business practice, I don't know what is. read more

I am new to the area and went to this dental office based upon a local recommendation. They were able to work with my work schedule in setting up a cleaning appointment. The office was clean, easy to find, and there was plenty of parking. There were patients ranging from kids to elderly. The office staff was quick and efficient in my check in, and I was seen within 10 minutes of arriving. The dental hygienist was also quick and efficient. I have sensitive gums, but she was very good about not roughly scraping my teeth or squirting ice cold water into my mouth. I saw Dr. Alan Wolcott- he was nice and informative regarding things I need to be mindful of relating to my teeth as I age. He tried to sell me on specific machines and procedures that his office could perform. It was more cosmetic things that I did not want, but he was not too pushy in his marketing pitch. I had to return for a cavity filling, and I saw Dr. Cécile Poupard. She was excellent (and super nice). I get very nervous with the drilling and filling-but she was great about calming me down while working fast and efficiently. I will continue to use this practice, and I highly recommend Dr. Poupard. First of all my dental phobia is an understatement. About two years ago I went to Dental Health Associates for a cleaning. Dr. Wilcot was very respectful and personable. I'm extremely thankful I found this wonderful practice, unfortunately I made a complaint:/ (which was TOTALLY unnecessary ) Dr. Wilcot did an excellent job on my crown that needed to be replaced, he provided me all the information I needed as far as crowns go (never knew someone could have a porcelain crown) you can tell he enjoys his work and is able to ensure you're in good hands. I moved to Montgomery village and have been to two dentists that I don't seem to enjoy. I'm willing to commute for better service but now I'm a little worried the staff will find me difficult, since I think I left a bad taste in their mouth (fingers crossed). read more

I usually only review restaurants but I couldn't pass up reviewing Dr Wolcott and his amazing associates and staff. I've had the chance to interact with ALL the dentists at Hillandale Smiles, Drs. Wolcott, Centty, Poupard, Velamakanni and they are literally the best group of dental professionals you will ever meet. VERY professional but fun-loving at the same time. Not only are the dentists great, the hygienists Michelle and Amanda are super friendly, lively, HONEST and down to Earth. I had my cleaning done by Michelle and it was the best cleaning I have had in my life. It is truly a dental home. Every person I have encountered in the office was friendly, helpful and caring. Everyone takes their time with you and really get to know you, remembering small details about a family vacation discussed at the last visit 6 months ago or a special occasion celebrated. This is what makes you love going to the dentist! It's not just about having a cleaning done (...by the best hygienists) or a filling done (...by the best dentist), it's the positive atmosphere you feel every time you walk into the office. They explain in detail everything being done, what needs to be done, the rate and estimate amount insurance covers. Obviously, insurance coverage is a contract between the patient and the insurance company so it is the patient's responsibility to know their own coverage but the front office helps as best as they can. It is a peaceful atmosphere where ALL the employees work together. Also VERY Clean! Something I always look for when going to any medical office. DON"T GO THERE!!! They will tell you that you need a lot of expensive work that you don't need. They won't fill routine cavities unless you let them do the expensive stuff first. At my last check-up, they told me that I needed 6 or 7 crowns plus I had "several" cavities (they wouldn't tell me the actual number). I had 2 of the crowns put on, but then I had to move to another state. My new dentist says that I need 1 crown, not the 4 or 5 that DHA claimed I needed, and that I have NO cavities!!! My previous dentist had warned me not to deal with large clinics or chains, and I guess he was correct. Dental Health Associates is the most unethical group of medical practitioners that I have ever encountered. read more

I contacted Dr. Wolcott via email in order to inquire about receiving my services at his practice. He responded promptly on the next business day and I was able to schedule an appointment with Dr. Poupard-Toner that same morning. I am beyond pleased with Dr. Poupard-Toner. She does exceptional work. I required an onlay (a laboratory fabricated prosthetic), at least six fillings and an extraction of my wisdom tooth. She made sure that I was informed about my procedure and explained everything. Dr. Poupard-Toner is very patient and I did not experience any pain. Dr. Poupard-Toner has a beautiful spirit and she made sure that I was comfortable. She even called me on my cell-phone several hours after my extraction, in order to make sure that I was doing okay. Her work is IMPECCABLE! My fillings are beautiful and they blend in perfectly with my natural tooth. Dr. Poupard-Toner educated me about my dental hygiene; which included changing my diet (reducing my sugar intake), and a she taught me a more effective way to brush hard to reach areas in my mouth. A++ Awesome dental office. Being in the dental profession I have tried this place after having a 2 time horrible experience at Aspen Hill Dental office and my experience at Dental Health Associates was really great. They used this dental caries detector to ensure they had removed all of the decay from my tooth and then the used an air abrasion unit that helps create a better surface to bond to. These are things taught in dental school but never seen in practice! Great service from the staff and the Doctors. I left there filling confident that my fillings were going to last a lot longer then the average because I know they got out all of the decay! By the way they had awesome massage chairs that help relax me before the treatment began. I took my entire family in, and found a new dental Practice that I can trust. read more

I went there for my annual check up,cleaning, and filling. The hygienist did a good job, and I came back the next day for a filling, then I was sent to the receptionist named angel for the checkout; I was surprised that she is talking personal call while I was waiting to be checked out. I tried to be patient and finally asked her if she is working on it. After I waited for a while; she said she couldn't do it, and the bill will be sent to me. I was disappointed that she was giving me attitude, and didn't even ask excuse.but I want to mention All the receptionists were very professional except the lady named angel. read more

The Dentist was VERY nice and friendly. However, ended up doing work to my daughter I wasn't explained or expected to pay for! I was never notified of additional work even though I was sitting in the room the whole time! And when I go pay I was billed a higher rate of what was given to me on the estimate. I was given an estimate of $93 for extra filling but ended up paying $158! I spoke to two employee of which neither could explain the estimate and bill difference to me. Called for a week to try to speak to the office manager, which is who I was referred to by the two employees and finally got a call back to receive attitude when I told her their estimate didn't mean crap! When I even explained to her that I wasn't even questioning the additional filling that was done without even telling me but instead the difference in rates! She is very unprofessional and rude! Definitely lacking customer service! She emailed me the actual insurance claim form which again, didn't match the rates provide at the time of estimate. So NO, I will not be taking my daughter back here. read more
