If you are getting a crown, go elsewhere! Although it may seem nice that this practice makes crowns inhouse instead of sending out to a lab, making the crown also depends on the skill of the dentist. I've never had issues in the past with lab made crowns. This is the first time I've ever had a Cerec crown, and I have had pain for over two months. Also, I can FEEL this Cerec crown in my mouth constantly - it is as if there is something stuck against my cheek or on the tooth. It is causing me to bite the inside of my check. Plus, it is painful to try to chew even soft foods on it, the tooth/root hurts if I touch it with anything (tongue, finger, etc). Going through this pain, I did some online research on Cerec crowns, and there are a lot of issues with these type of crowns (most of which has to do with the skills of the dentist). The Cerec crown being too "bulky" so that feels like something stuck to your tooth or cheek is a complaint that people have had, which has to do with dentist not being skilled enough to fit it correctly. If you research Cerec crowns, you have to also be careful not to just read "advertisements" disguised as articles written by dental practices that purchased an expensive Cerec machine and want to recoup their investment! Since getting the new crown, I went back to Dr. Anolik's office three times because of the pain. The third time, Dr. Steven Anolik referred me to an endodontist, Dr. Jason Fields - who apparently is Anolik's go-to endodontist for referrals. He said the whole reason for the pain is that I am grinding my teeth. This didn't make sense to me - I might grind a little or clench a little, but I had gotten another crown on the same side years ago and never had this kind of pain. So, I switched to a different dental practice. My new dentist said that don't have a Cerec machine because of the problems with Cerec crowns. She tried doing a bite adjustment (grinding the crown down a little because it was hitting the top teeth to hard). She also referred me to an endodontist, and said to go if I am still having pain in a couple of weeks. The pain continued, so I saw the new endodontist, who recommended a root canal. He did the root canal, and when he got in there, he said the nerves were very inflammed (from all trauma of the crown) and some of the nerve was dead, and it was infected. That was the reason I was having this pain. Now the infection is getting treated, then he will finish the root canal. Then I'll go back to the new dentist and see about replacing or fixing the ill-fitting crown. I am writing this long review because I totally regret having walked into this dental practice in the first place. If Dr. Steven Anolik had told me BEFORE recommending the crown that they are using an inhouse Cerec machine to make it, instead of sending it out to a lab, I would have had a chance to research it before the appointment. But I did not know until I was in the chair for the appointment to get the crown. Would I have researched it and decided against it? I don't know for certain. But I believe patients should have the choice and have all the facts. Thus, I am writing this review for anyone who happens to see it, who happens to go to this practice and they tell you that you need a crown. At least you would have the choice to do some research on your own and decide if you want to risk having the dentist make it inhouse. Another thing I learned through this experience. The endodontist looked at all the x-rays and intraoral photos of that one tooth. It had a crack on both sides, which is why a crown was necessary. But he said that he would have done the root canal first, and then do the crown. There was a big risk of the trauma to the nerves, the inflammation, and a deeper crack that could not be detected. So doing the root canal first would have saved me all of this pain and multiple appointments and multiple painful shots in the mouth. read more

I raised my kids (now in their mid-thirties) going to see Dr. Steven Anolik (Dr. Corey was not yet practicing). So, I've known and worked with him quite a long time and in the years since, he and I have moved - he to another location in Gaithersburg and me 1 1/2 hrs. away near the Blue Ridge Mountains. He and Dr. Corey are still our dentists, and I can tell you why I drive 1 1/2 hrs. to see them. Totally Smiles consistently treats me like family - with respect, professionalism, and genuine concern to provide state-of-the-art dental care. The staff is well trained with great chair-side manner and they go out of their way to accommodate. I have had them send an Rx for antibiotics while on vacation in CA until I could get back to have a root canal dealt with (that included calling Dr. A on Thanksgiving and getting a return call!). Nothing but great things to say about this business. I'm a huge yelper so I found them on Yelp because my son is a patient at an orthodontist in the area. I have always been petrified of the dentist. As an adult I know I completely dropped the ball with having my teeth checked. However Totally Smiles feels like home for sure. The office is super easy to find. I love that parking is simple and accessible. The waiting room and office is super clean and organized. The front desk staff are super friendly and welcoming. Catherine & the other young lady (my mind is drawing a blank) she has amazing blonde hair that's shoulder length. She helped me schedule an appointment and she worked around my schedule. Really appreciated her for that. The dental hygienist Svetlana was great. She really helped me understand the mistakes I've been making with my teeth. She took time to get to know me and that really took some stress away. And she has amazing eyelashes! Dr. Corey is beyond AMAZING. He reassured me that I was in good hands and we came up with a great plan for my dental work in the near future and I'm super excited about it. He's super funny and I love that he immediately made me feel welcome and safe. This place is definitely a five star. I have severe dentist anxiety because I know I dropped the ball with taking care of my teeth but this place completely took all of my stress away. I recently had some tooth pain in my upper rear jaw. I was quite worried, as it had been 8 years since my last dental visit. I did some yelp searches, found these guys within walking distance of my house, and made an emergency appointment. Dr Corey was enthusiastic and reassuring when he checked me out. What I thought was going to be a very expensive root canal or extraction, turned out to be the grinding of the molar tip. A few adjustments, and it was fixed. I then had a full cleaning (someone else canceled), and they hygienist was very polite, skilled, and kind...especially for someone who hadn't been in 8 years! Dr Corey did my Invisalign treatment and I am more than happy with the results as well as the level of service that the entire office staff provided during my treatment term. Everyone is exceptionally friendly, helpful, and responsive. Dr Corey also has a great sense of humor so the visits were very pleasant (not what you typically would associate with dentist visits). Lastly, I had a friend concurrently on Invisalign with a different provider. It was clear during our conversations that Dr Corey is really an expert in this area bc I was fully aware of my treatment objectives and how to get there (whereas my friend was not presented with similar options to optimize the results). I think I owe Drs. Anolik a direct review. Here is what I told a story of my dental visit with Drs. Anolik about 1.5 years ago. "I was recommended by a friend to see Dr. Kokkeo at an emergency situation when one of my molar teeth totally unexpectedly cracked shortly after a root canal procedure was done by another dental specialist. While my general dentist ascertained that it was a 100% that extraction of the tooth was the only option I could have, Dr. Kokkeo as an oral surgeon patiently listened to me and went far and beyond to thoroughly assess my tooth for a possibility to avoid extraction of the tooth. There was so much he did for me when I called his office and visited him on such a short notice, which I would not enumerate here. At the end, he referred me to Drs. Anolik for further evaluation and treatment, who eventually saved my cracked molar tooth with top-notch skills and state of the art technology! I was so happy not only because my molar tooth was saved and restored, but I avoided all the hassles and major financial consequences which would follow if I had to go by the tooth extraction option (which initially was said to be the only option to my desperation). I've been a patient of both Dr. Steven and Dr. Corey for many years. During that time i have gone from a patient who needed quite a large amount of work done on a regular basis to a patient who needs minimal work done outside of regular exams, cleanings and x rays. I have 6 and a half crowns and multiple fillings. The results of a botched root canal in college and some less than stellar care of my teeth in my 20's. Dr. Steve and Dr. Corey's goal when I became their patient was to stabilize the rapid decline of my dental health, and then hopefully gain the upper hand. They did that and then some. The doctors are always 100% honest and upfront with me about expectations and results, opting for the minimally invasive procedures first and then resorting to more extensive procedures only when necessary. As far as chair side manner, both doctors are aces! Dr. Corey finds his own jokes extremely funny (as do I) which is funny in its own right, but it also help to alleviate any stress or worry that could be associated with going to the dentist. And the Novocain "wand" that the doctors use to administer numbing medication is fantastic. I never feel any pain during my now infrequent fillings. I like going to see Dr. Steven and Dr. Corey, but I LOVE the fact that I don't have to see them as often as I use to. read more

I did a review on this company around August of last year, but I have since deleted it as I no longer feel that they run a professional practice. Totally Smiles is great when it comes to getting your money and reeling you in as though they're best dental office in the area. They are "Totally Smiles" as the names says but looks and even first visits can be deceiving. Their phone presence was less than warm after day 1 and the person in billing doesn't answer or is always conveniently unavailable. This office has overcharged my insurance on two separate occasions and also charged me $100 out of pocket for a service that would've cost me $0 with my insurance had they explained my options...lesson learned here, but again, best practice and good ethics clearly aren't the goal here. We HAD an appointment this Friday and after not one, but TWO calls to confirm, they cancelled on us! On their second call to me to confirm our appointment, I informed the office that it would be our last visit since we have just been notified of a family friend who has an office in the area. Two hours later I get a call saying the dentist who works with children has a MEETING?!?! Are you kidding me...? Total joke and insult to my intelligence. How after two calls to confirm, and after we made this appointment at least two weeks in advance does he have a meeting, not an emergency but "unfortunately" a meeting? Unfortunate, mam I think not. I believe it was a total blessing that they cancelled with us. I can't even imagine what might have happened in there this time. --and to think I tried to keep good on our last appointment and be the professional person that I am and let them know in advance that we'd be seeking the services of another office. I would not recommend this office due to multiple horrible experiences. Should you choose to visit anyway, check your insurance statements! ...and when you realize it was a mistake, do your cancelling of services in person and AFTER any final appointments. Word of mouth referrals is paramount when it comes to medical and dental procedures, the seven coworkers I'd referred here earlier on, will no longer seek this company's services. I have been of patient of Dr Steven and Dr Corey since 2007. They are amazing! They make you feel comfortable while providing entertainment (for free! haha). I have had some issues with my teeth over the years and each time I go back everyone from the front desk to the people who clean my teeth to the actual Dentist are so nice and caring. It really doesn't feel like you are in a dentist office (well until you hear the drill). Seriously, please check them out. You won't be sorry! Great place! I'm not a fan of any kind of doctor. I practically avoid anyone in a white coat. This past January, I experienced a toothache. Began by initially going to someone else. The x-ray part alone was uncomfortable as the assistant was very heavy handed. A rescheduling of an appointment at the last minute drove me to talk to a friend who recommended Dr. Anolik's office. I'm really glad I came to Dr. Anolik. Everyone is very friendly. It started with a great secretary. Kind secretaries over the phone are kind of rare these days, but not at this office. I came in for a cleaning and one thing that really stuck out to me was how they explained why and what they were doing to me before they did it. In the past, dentists I have had simply start going to work. Not a lot of conversation and no explanation. Here, the hygienist took the time to explain each step, the x-ray went well, was uncomfortable, but not painful like at the other office, and she patiently answered every question I asked. I mentioned to her I had trouble flossing the upper back part of my mouth and she asked me to show her how I hold the floss then showed me a better way to hold it. For once, I felt like I was not being judged for being scared or being judged for not taking care of my teeth as well as I could have. Great office! read more
