If you are curious, I would honestly suggest scheduling a visit. We toured several schools before deciding to go here, and I have to say that there was definitely something special about this place. The staff and teachers approach their job with a level of professionalism and organization that I didn't see at the other preschools I toured. It's very "buttoned-up", well-kept, and bright, and that all sets a tone that education is important. It's also a FUN place to learn. You couldn't ask for a better playground, and tables outside are set up with Brio blocks and various hands-on toys. The best part about Bethany is how the students are taught about God. The teachers there all care very much about communicating to students, in age-appropriate stories and concepts, about how much God loves them. My daughter's class, for instance, focuses on a different fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc.) each month. I like that this genuine desire for kids to know Jesus, seems to infuse every aspect of the day, rather than it feeling cheesy or obligatory. We live nearby, but I noticed in the student directory, there are families as far away as Oxnard and Malibu who drive out to Thousand Oaks to send their children to Bethany, and I can see why. What a warm, inviting, special place to get to be a student!

Constant staff turnover - Currently the principal, treasurer, and athletic director tenured their resignations for the end of the school year and there are no replacements lined up to fill the vacancies. The teacher lined up to be the new science instructor decided not to take the job so a volunteer parent will continue teaching the class for the third year. This is par for the course since the soccer, baseball, and track teams are all coached by parents and not the athletic director. 2. The school only hires Adventist teachers so even if the most qualified candidate is a devout Christian they are barred from working at the school because they are not of the Adventist faith. 3. The state of the building is in disrepair. Ventura County Health Dept reports show constant rodent and feces infestations. (I have linked the health inspection reports below) Even worse is the staff housing located directly behind Home Depot. The homes are in such poor condition the health department was forced to perform a surprise inspection last summer due to an open sewer running out of one of the homes carrying urine and feces into the front yard. If you are considering the Academy I encourage you to tour the staff housing behind Home Depot. 4. The school is often used as a "dumping ground" for troubled students expelled from other public and private schools. In 2026, a student called in violent threats against staff and students necessitating police intervention. Below is the e-mail to parents from the principal about the threat. "Dear NPAA Families, I learned early this morning that several parents have heard via police scanner about a student who has threatened NPAA's physical plant. This threat therefore involves student and staff safety. Of course, this incident is alarming, and their concern is understandable. However, since rumors fly quickly -- and change in shape and detail and intensity as they travel -- I want to inform the NPAA community what is happening so as to prevent the rumors from worsening. First of all, and most important for the safety of students and staff, I asked the student's parents to keep their student at home until further notice. They have agreed to do so, starting today. In the mean time, I have stayed in touch with local law enforcement. Yesterday afternoon I sat with deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. I have a case number that I can use to update authorities on developments. NPAA administration have notified the school's governing body, the Southern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, of these developments, and we are in constant contact with officials there. Again, the student's family will keep the student home until further notice. The family will continue their work with a team of professionals who follow the student's progress daily. Excellent individual attention in a Christian environment. Kids are kind and accepting and lift each other up. They gave us a tour of the school and talked about all the great activities that happen there. I thought, if my kid could have a fraction of that presence, then he would be well served. The results of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School were on display with radiance. The teachers here care about the students. They are experts who love their craft and endeavor to continuously improve upon it. They are passionate and compassionate mentors. When you stand there afflicted they tell you they have never had this happen. Its clearly false. They say "I know that family so they must be right". Them and theirs can do no wrong. This school should be held accountable but I do not believe they ever will be. Its an absolutely terrible place. If you don't bow down to them no matter what, you will be rode out the door based on lies, rumors, gossip, slander, favoritism. The people they have compassion for are the people they "know" or people with money. They pick on the weak, trust me, they will leave you speechless, unable to stand up for yourself or your kid, and will not use proper context when they create a file. Terrible ungodly place. Fake Christians. Judgmental and dishonest. My son like every kid is not perfect. But he was not discipled or cared for. Our family's experience at St. John Baptist de La Salle was deeply disappointing and, ultimately,…read moreleft us feeling unheard, unsupported, and frustrated. As a parent, I often felt that concerns raised with school administration, including Mrs. Monaco and Mrs. Tin, were not addressed in a constructive or supportive manner. In my opinion, communication with our family was frequently difficult, and I did not feel that our concerns regarding our children were given the attention they deserved. Rather than feeling like partners in our children's education, we often felt dismissed when legitimate concerns were brought forward. Over several years, we attended multiple meetings seeking assistance and resolution. We also met with our parish priest on three separate occasions. He was compassionate, understanding, and supportive of our son. Unfortunately, despite those meetings, we did not see meaningful improvements in the issues that prompted us to seek help. We made every effort to resolve concerns through the appropriate channels before reaching the point of sharing our experience publicly. Another major concern for our family was the academic preparation provided by the school. My daughter was an Honor Roll student throughout her time at St. John Baptist de La Salle, yet when it came time to prepare for high school entrance exams, she felt completely unprepared in math. We ultimately had to hire a private tutor to help her learn material that we believed should have been covered more thoroughly in the classroom. As a parent, it was frustrating to see an Honor Roll student struggle with entrance exam preparation despite years of private school tuition. In our experience, there was a significant gap between the grades students received and their actual readiness for more rigorous academic programs. Based on our experience and conversations with other families, I have concerns about whether students are being adequately prepared for competitive high school admissions. The final year was especially difficult. During a time when families were already dealing with serious concerns involving student safety and an ongoing investigation, the school's focus seemed to be on discipline rather than compassion. My son was required to serve a detention during Junior Olympics, one of the final graduation activities. Even after completing the detention, he was not allowed to participate in the remaining event and was forced to sit and watch while his classmates continued. Watching him be excluded from one of the last experiences of his middle school years was heartbreaking. In addition, despite repeated requests made both in person and through email, I was unable to obtain copies of my son's disciplinary records and student file. As a parent, I believe I should have access to information regarding my child's disciplinary history, especially when decisions affecting graduation activities were being made. A school should be a place where children feel supported, parents feel heard, and academics prepare students for future success. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. My hope is that the school, its administration, and the Archdiocese take a serious look at the concerns being raised by families and work toward improving transparency, communication, accountability, student support, and academic standards. After several difficult years, I am relieved that this chapter is behind us and that my family has moved on. I would like to bring to your attention the malicious behavior I received from your staff while…read moreattending the 7:30am mass on 1/24/24.   I've been a Parishioner here for over 38 years and am also married at this parish.  I am concerned about how I was treated when having handicapp access to handicapp parking spaces.  I parked in the designated handicapp spot next to the office, when I was abruptly and rudely intruded by a short Asian woman from the office and a Caucasian woman who ambushed me saying I couldn't park there because children were present when the parking lot was completely empty and there were no children in sight.  I expressed that I was parking legally in a designated handicapped space and I was going to be late for mass from there ambush.  To deescalate the situation I moved my car to opposite side in another handicapp parking spot where the Caucasian and Asian woman were satisfied and I proceeded into the church to attend mass rushing and limping to the entrance.      When I came out of mass at around 8:30am I see a African-American security personnel standing next to my car, and I as approach him he informed me that the two ladies from earlier told him that I wouldn't move my car and had him wait there for me till I came out of mass to tell me that I can never parking there again.  This harassment and malicious act I received from these two women represents our parish which is unacceptable and won't go unnoticed. This was a direct and deliberate willful act of mercilessness of noncharity against another disabled Parishioner which goes against our faith.    Let me reiterate that I am capable of elevating this matter to the pertinent legal authorities if I don't get an apology or if this happens to me again or another parishioner in the future.
