I cannot begin to express my gratitude for Shawn and the entire team at Hillside Canine. We were in a tough spot and had to quickly find a place to board our dog the night before Thanksgiving. Shawn answered and immediately assured us that his staff would standby to take in our pup. As stressed out pet parents after a 7 hour drive, the whole thing was a bit hectic trying to find a safe and reliable boarder on such short notice, but that staff was calming and friendly. Intake was smooth and gave us a lot of relief. After a couple days, we called and asked for an update. To our surprise, they sent a full report card with pictures and videos to reassure us that he was having a great time at daycare. I appreciated the detail and attention they gave our little guy. When we picked him up it was clear that he was very well cared for. Thanks to Anya, Auntie Em, the chill guy who checked us in, and the awesome kennel tech to checked us out. 10/10 would recommend. read more

We recently visited the Verde Valley, AZ area in order to ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad and needed a place to drop off our pup for the afternoon. The staff on the phone were very friendly and clear about their practice and made me feel comfortable right away. When we arrived, we were greeted with friendly staff and our pup, Tucker, immediately seemed at home and relaxed, which of course put me at ease as well, especially since as a rescue he has some separation anxiety. They were great at sending us some updates, including some videos, along the way where I could see that Tucker was enjoying himself along with a couple of other small dogs his size. When we picked him up, he was relaxed and not the least bit anxious but at the same time happy to see us. Overall, a very good experience and we would not hesitate to leave him there again, perhaps even overnight if needed. Highly recommend the Camp Verde location (that's the only one we've visited so far)! read more

Where do I begin? We were searching for a doggy care while we did some activities and came across Hillside Canine Resort & Spa. We knew our lab was going to be nervous and scared as we have not taken him anywhere else back home and new environment in different state can be frightening. They were so welcoming and accommodating. We booked just a play time and decided to add in grooming. They did fantastic job. I was nervous leaving him there for a few hours, but everyone seemed to show more than compassion for animals and that left me at ease. Cost is very reasonable we paid $25 from 10am-5pm. Took my Maltese/Terrier mix, Flippy, for grooming. To say Fliipy is difficult is an understatement. Flippy is a rescue and highly timid, maybe aggressive and does not trust many people. They did a fantastic job! Her grooming was complete in under 2 hours, she looked beautiful and did not appear to be stressed from her visit. UNSAFE, UNSANITARY, potentially criminal activity, not an option for pet-sitting: "...he (the owner) feared a dog would ultimately die in his care." I visited this location to judge the property for my dog Sam, and to discuss helping at the pet spa. After speaking with the owner for only a couple of minutes, he informed me that the dogs aren't fed properly, or on schedule. He informed me that medicating the dogs correctly and on schedule is a huge failure for the business, and that as it grows, it's getting out of control. He feared a dog would ultimately die in his care. The location is filled with pests, and the scent of urine. While I was there, the owner literally rifled through my private client data, stole some of my work information related to previous consulting, profits, etc., and now I'm having a heck of a time getting it back, having to go through law enforcement, courts, etc., likely not to be resolved for more than a year. All of this was the result of chatting with the owner, and being friendly to my neighborhood locals. It was all very surprising because Mr. Tucker's an experienced firefighter, who doesn't run a real profitable business, but runs a local business with local clientele nonetheless. To see so much arguably criminal activity on-site from someone connected to a formal fire background, caught me greatly off guard. Once I get my property back, no more Hillside for me. Shawn is such an amazing trainer. He trained my 2 Cane Corsos puppies and has them focused and a joy to be around. It use to feel like being at a WWE match with their playtime around the house not anymore. He took his time to teach us all the commands and put us in different situations to ensure we were prepared to continue the training at home. read more

What a saving Grace this doggy spa was for us. They took fabulous care of our little baby pooch while we enjoyed the day at out of Africa. I have encountered the exact same situation as one of the more recent reviewers. I took my dog for obedience training in January. When my guy was there Tami was the glue that kept me connected. She sent videos, pictures, and texts. I paid for 2-4 week obedience training and 4 handler sessions. After the initial 4 week training was completed, I tried to schedule a handler session. I attempted for 4 weeks to schedule but each time it got cancelled due to weather, trainer not being available, etc. I asked for a refund of the $410 fee because at the time, I was moving out of the area. I worked with the owner (who is also the trainer) for another 2 months while he struggled to understand what happened, needed time to research, didn't follow through with dates and times for call backs he committed to. Same pattern as no availability for scheduled classes! Plus, somewhere along the way the staff had a rapid turnover and Tami wasn't there anymore. Eventually he agreed to a refund and set his office manager up to get the funds back to me. This was where it really got fun. Apparently he hired his ex wife to manage his office/business. She shut the whole refund down telling me what I was charged was a package. Maybe that's true now but when I was charged in January I was told by staff I was paying for one service of boarding and training and another service of handler training. Each had its own price. They don't publicly share their pricing so they can say anything and no one would ever know the difference. This guy might have been a good trainer at some point in time but it seems now he's just greedy. He doesn't want to do the work, he charges for all services upfront as a "package", then will only offer credit even he can't provide his own services. No where in America do you get to keep money for services you did not provide. Steer clear of this shade tree business. read more

I just picked up my baby girl and I couldn't be any happier! She had the full bath (ear cleaning, nail trimming, gland expression, and a bath) and they did a wonderful job! We left Mulligan in day care for three days firing the day while we explored Sedona. Wonderful friendly staff. By the third day Mulligan was anxious to leave the RV and go play with his new friends. Also had him bathed the last day. I would return again if in the area. In addition, rates were extremely reasonable. read more

We were visiting from California for a few days and we decided to bring our dog because the boarding near home was either way too expensive or didn't have proper services (some boarding included only three 20 minute play sessions per day. But we have a husky mix so it wouldn't suit his energy levels) We found hillside canine and I asked about the schedule and they told me someone came at 5:30 am to take the dogs potty, then at 11 am they were outside playing with each other basically the rest of the day with a few breaks in between because they had many workers coming in at different times of the day. When I got my dog back, he was happy and looked like he had fun there. It was only $30 a night and completely worth it. read more

We can't recommend Hillside and the Hillside family enough. I never thought I would have another service dog after loosing my first one Frost on super bowl Sunday this year. We had purchased Onyx but she was only 16 weeks old when he passed. Hillside listened to our needs and today I have my second service dog home and working for me. If you value your pet do not take them here for boarding. I arranged for boarding over 4th of July weekend so we could visit family out of state. When I arrived at the prearranged time to drop off my dog, there was no one around and there was a lock on the gate. This worried me because their ad states someone is on site 24/7/365. After many phone calls and a long wait 1.5 hours someone finally showed up. They were very disorganized and no one seems to know what was going on. I unfortunately decided to leave my dog with them. They did text and say all was well late that night so I felt a bit better. When I arrived to pick up my dog, she was so filthy caked with mud and feces and was very lethargic. None the less I paid my bill and took her home. Put her directly into a bath and offered food, she would not eat or drink. The next 2 days were spent at the vet trying to keep her alive. Finally after 3 weeks of love and medication she is back to her happy self. I spoke with the management several time over first few days and they assured me my fees would be refunded ( 3 weeks later no refund) and there was an offer to possibly pay the vet bill (over $800) but when they found out how much, all communication has ceased. Today was the first time I ever left my dog at Doggy Daycare anywhere. Hillside was awesome! Jennifer and the staff are so nice and friendly and my Sweetie had a good day. I had a lot of errands to tend to today and I didn't worry about Sweetie because I knew she was in good hands. In addition to daycare she was groomed as well. Worst place I have ever boarded my dogs! I showed up unexpected to find my two small, inside dogs left in a outside cage. It was 49° outside and had rained the night before. The floor inside the cage was dirt or should I say mud, they had absolutely no dry spot or blanket of any kind to lay on. They had no food or water and judging by there shivering had been there some time! The staff was uninformed and had no idea what to charge me and didn't have any paperwork of any kind on my dogs. Jennifer the owner could not be reached by phone so by the time I left there I had three different price quotes of my charges. After reluctantly leaving my credit card number I was charged a completely different amount the next day, a amount that was almost double what I was originally quoted or charged the previous time. Ever since I've picked up my dogs they have had a cough so who knows what this will cost me at the vet today, hope and pray it's not kennel cough! In conclusion this is absolutely the worst boarding facility I've ever dealt with and would highly recommend you look elsewhere!!! read more

We brought our dog here for training. He had serious behavioral issues. After six training sessions, he was a different dog, much more mellow and less reactive. The trainer, Victoria, was very knowledgeable and taught us how to get his behavior under control. Dog training at Hillside Canine is well worth the investment of your time and money. Overpriced for this place, training price is not worth the service. I brought one dog in for training then couple months later their price went up even higher. They don't tell u that when u go in, so when I went to pay for the 2nd dog it was a different price which is way higher than I expected. the owner is not very nice. Worse groom ever on my Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier... I called in advance to make sure the groomer knew how to groom a Wheaten.. Oh Yea she says.. I even had the owner pull up the website which has in great detail how to groom.. The groomer, said my dog moved his head.. Really in 5 years I have never had a groomer tell me that... So now he has no fall & he's bald... So go elsewhere if you what a modified show cut.. She does not know how to do it... read more

Warm and friendly customer service. They were very accommodating with our dog who needed some extra attention with feeding. She did what was best for both our dogs in their 10 day stay. We couldn't ask for a better outfit to watch our furry babies while we are away. After seeking dog boarding in Flagstaff, Hillside was the perfect alternative as we drove down to Phoenix to catch our flight (located conveniently off the Cottonwood exit on I-17). The owners are warm, friendly and passionate about their care for the dogs. Our dog has aggression challenges and we knew he would be handled due to their professional dog training abilities. Also, they made our dog extra comfy by putting him on an elevated bed in his kennel. Our dog stayed for a week and we will definitely be returning! read more

We went to Hillside for dog training with trainer Victoria. She is an excellent trainer, who explains to us fur baby parents her methods and why they are successful. Today we had a service person in our home and our girls went to Place, and stayed there the entire time. The other skills we have utilized also work very well.
