There is also a weight room on the main floor where high school kids come to train and workout for their winter sports training. Nice to grab a lunch and get away for awhile. Mature trees make for good shade to eat at any of the picnic tables. Plenty of play ground equipment, basket ball and tennis court are available. There is a slight trail around the property and tree row allowing running, jogging, and long boarding; however, it's not currently connected to any of the larger metro trails which provide much better access across the city.

This is a nice little neighborhood park behind HyVee on Center and next to the Elmwood Post Office…read more It has some playground equipment, benches, picnic tables, tennis courts, and a short, paved trail that bisects the park. Hickory Street off of 51st dead ends in a little cul-de-sac where people park to take dogs for walks or eat in their cars. It's good for walking dogs because you can choose cross country on the grass or stick with the pavement. Doggy duty clean up bags are available at a dispenser. This park was once two small, separate parks named for the prominent citizens who donated the land. While I loved the pirate decorations, and there were a couple of unique obstacles (like shooting your ball out of a cannon inside a pirate ship), the course isn't one where you can get many holes-in-one (which is one of the most fun and rewarding objectives of mini golf in my opinion). Most of the holes are in decent shape, though there are a few spots where the carpeting is coming loose and could use some maintenance. In my quest to find the best mini golf course in America (Iowa is the 28th state I've mini-golfed in), I would give this course a B.

We're happy they put some here! With some of the rain we get here, it gets challenging to have fields that are always in great shape. They stay extremely well kept all the time and the smoothness of the fields are great for ball control. And so many games and tournaments can now be held in the area with all the extra fields.

There's also NO trash cans - there's literally around 4 in the entire complex of fields. Lastly, we've played FOUR tournaments here this year (2025) and the grass is NEVER mowed - it's extremely long and very wet in mornings - makes pulling carts, putting up tents or just sitting irritating with the grass / weeds scratching your ankles and bugs crawling up, etc! How hard is it to mow the grass on a Thurs or Friday before??!! I mean it's so long I seriously think they only mow every-other week!

There have been so many changes in recent years due to the new addition to Westgate Elementary School next door. The parking lot coming in off Hascall is completely different. The park itself had some construction in recent years. The scary and probably dangerous tunnel has been leveled and replaced as has the sidewalks, stairs, and pathways around it. There's all new playground furniture. The dense tree line separating the park from the mortuary next door is gone. There is still a lot of open land to walk my dogs. I always feel pretty safe here, especially now, though there are always some randos sitting alone in their cars but I suspect that's all parks.
