Had my brother's wedding here and the staff was very welcoming, and professional. Not everything went according to plan but unless you knew the plan you wouldn't know because everyone was flexible and on top of making sure the big night was a success. The western aesthetic is charming and quaint so I can imagine a lot of good times had there. Docked one star for a particular flag that was super prominently displayed in the front lobby that wasn't the most welcoming for some of the patrons. Honestly it was my first time visiting hilltop n its definitely gonna be my last. Night started off good was having a great time until I went to the bar to get a drink. Shalon the supposed general manager was rude. First of all I asked for shots she gave me one the she practically slammed the bucket we ordered at us. So I ask how much she said 76.00 where in the hell do people charge 56.00 a bucket so I asked around n other bartender said buckets were 36.00 n other guest there so basically this girl overcharged me but whatever u need the cash more than me koo keep it. But then I order another shot n get charged 20.00 im sorry but for the experience I have never dropped 100 on a bucket n 2 shots anywhere in high desert n then doesn't have the decency to open the bottles or give us a bottle opener. Any bartender knows u have to open any bottles or can ordered regardless. So I did put a complaint about this women to another worker n she was surprised as well. We had a great time there watching Led Zeppagian. It sounded pretty good. Excellent lighting and rock and roll atmosphere. We purchased a table front row. We love these seats and have seen several shows from this spot without issues. However during this show, the dance floor spilled over right in front of all the tables. So we had a great view of everyone dancing in front of the stage. Lots of people were very drunk and almost tripped over our table, spilling drinks and bumping into us. Maybe because there were no food options offered. I believe there was a vendor problem. People got especially festive. I did not see security up front at all. They changed the seating arrangement so there is a dance floor between the tables but I don't think it is working. You're view eventually gets obstructed. Which I dont believe is right. Especially when you have to pay top dollar to sit up front. Just pay a cover charge and move to the stage , same view and a lot cheaper. I know concerts can get wild but it is a safety issue not to have someone up front minding the stage. Please try to keep your patrons safer. We will be back, Hilltop is an amazing venue. We always have great time. We'll just sit a little further back at the next show. \m/ read more

We recently hosted a reception Quinceañera Celebration at Hilltop, and I'm so glad we chose this place. Shalon, the venue manager, was awesome--super kind, always there to help. The venue is gorgeous with a cozy, rustic vibe that our guests couldn't stop talking about. It is really beautiful! Really fun, clean, charming place with lots of atmosphere. The views are terrific with an awesome sunset view. Staff is super welcoming and friendly. Shalon made sure everything went off without a hitch, and she worked well with our caterer. The atmosphere was perfect, the drinks were great, and the reception that meant so much to my family and all my guests was perfect. was not impressed years ago when I did a wedding there, but I was informed recently that the new owners had cleaned up the place and were more in line with professional standards that being said, I'm not sure if the new chef is still there I've heard both ways and I'm going to go look for myself soon, but I believe his name was Chris. We bought tickets to watch an Eagles cover band. Table 31 seats 3,4,5,6,7,8 facing the stage. When we arrived two other people had taken two of our seats. The seats at the venue were not numbered. The claimed to have purchased the same seats we had. They name dropped the owners and refused to move. We decided not to fight it. We flipped our chairs around and spent the night with people standing in front of us. It was the first time I've ever had people dancing in front of me stepping on my toes. I won't be back and I certainly wouldn't buy a reserved seat. They need to fix this. read more

I had a phenomenal time at the Hilltop. It was my first time going despite living most of my life in the HD. The parking was really easy showing up. The bar area was cute, although the bartender lady was a little grumpy. A few fire spots to warm up were awesome. I don't like huge crowds, so there were a few outdoor places to check out the incredible desert moon. The drinks were a bit pricey but I really enjoyed my vodka soda for $8. The indoor bar provides more options. I was impressed that they had free ice water, which the security guard continually refilled. Loved the easy going vibe and felt welcomed being a single lady at a bar for a concert. 10/10 will be hellraising here again. read more

Such an awful experience. The manager lady, Shalon, was extremely, purposely RUDE. This is how it went: I received a text that my room was ready, when I arrived I was planning on laying in the sun to even out my tan, I live in hermosa and got a funky red face burn, so my objective was to stay at the Inn to get an all over body tan. And book another night, paying cash. That way, I would have the full day to lay in the desert sun. When I arrived, Me: I called the number I received the text from Manager lady, Shalon: 'Hilltop Inn' Me: (Standing on the back patio, looking at all the chairs) Hello, do y'all have any lounge chairs... Shalon: we have plenty of chairs on the patio (just imagine the rudest tone you can imagine) Me: Yes, I see them, but are there any lounge chairs on property I can use... Shalon: We have plenty of chairs on the back patio. Me: Yes, but do you have any lounge chairs that I can lay on Shalon: NO Me: okay, (thinking to myself, why is she so angry rude) ( I step inside and ask about the internet) Can I get the internet code, I dont see one Shalon: IT'S ON THE TV. she then hangs up on me. Now remember, I was going to ask her if I could book another night with cash and that I forgot my hair dryer, if there was one I can use. I call back a couple of minutes later.. No answer. I had a Zoom meeting I had to attend, so I could not call back until 5:30. I call back, no answer. I call again, no answer. I get a text 'Can I help you'... I respond 'yes' and 'obviously' I call again, no answer. I send a text 'Whatever ill feelings you have towards me, you need to set aside, I am a guest at this Inn and I am a Hotels . Com gold member, your rudeness will be reported.' Shalon finally calls me back with a tone of angry rudeness.. Me: Hello Shalon: The office closes at 5 o'clock. What do you need. Me: well I called at 3:38 after you hung up on me before I was able to ask for an extra set of towels. Shalon: I did not get any such call, and you have all the towels that are aloted to you for the day, Deborah. Me: excuse me Shalon, I have proof that I called you a few minutes after you hung up on me and I always ask for an extra set of towels when I travel (I use the bath towels to lounge in the sun, so I always need an extra set for when I bathe, (I thought to myself, never has anyone got lippy with me, I have always been obliged in my request for extra towels when I travel). I then asked for a remote. Shalon: oh yah, the lamp was stolen out of that room, we must have overlooked the remote. I'll get you a remote, but I'm not at the office, and I'll get you a set of towels, even though we don't ever do that since you already have your alloted towels for the day Deborah. Shalon then hangs up....again. An hour later I call to see what's up with the towels and remote, no answer, of course. I was starving and wanted to know if the restaurant was open, as I was craving a steak. But, she once again refused to answer. I then took myself to Jess Ranch for dinner and Ulta to buy a hair dryer.. I receive a text that she put my towels and remote on the porch. I arrive back and find the towels on the nasty torn, with holes, dirty door mat. Yep, on the floor. And of course, the remote did not work for the TV, so I could not enjoy the movie I was going to watch. I want a refund. I have been to the Tavern many times to watch the live bands and each time. Shalon was short and kinda rude to me. I really never cared. But as, I paid good money to stay at the Inn, wanting to pay cash for another night and wanting to spend money on a good steak dinner, well it will never happen at the Hilltop Tavern and Inn. I packed up my stuff first thing in the morning and called Hotels . Com to find me a room with a pool. I ended up in Barstow. I am asking for a refund for the hoffible treatment I received. Oh, and bring ear plugs. The walls are paper thin. So, I got a response, Shalon's automated response. I did not break any policies, and the only guests I saw were the couple next door. I spoke to the woman briefly, who was super nice, friendly, and cool, as I myself am. And a gentleman leaving the same time, 8am, as me. I told him to have a blessed day, and he said,'Thank you, you too' SHAME ON THIS PLACE. And, I did email Ken, the owner, the evening of my stay, informing him how Shalon was treating me. I would advise to never consider to book your venue here. For starters, the owners overcharge for this venue and for the day of the event you get very little personnel assistance or service for your buck. My last client paid $10k for 5 hrs of event time without no food selection and got 2 bartenders and 1 clean up guy that only cleaned up the last 30 minutes of the event, the rest of the time he was busy flirting with the older bartender. Apparently my client had pre-purchased a $2000 tab for alcohol prior of the event for her guest for the day of the event and we caught the bartenders double charging the guests for alcohol purchases the day of. So we had to bring this up to the event coordinator's attention immediately to resolve the situation. Last but not least, the day you booked with this venue and put your deposit down and sign a contract, you will not receive any type of follow up communication, phone calls with the venue and it's almost impossible to get a hold of the venue or the on-site coordinator until possibly the day prior or the day of your event, and the owners are very little help with this. So next time for the price you're gonna spend, you're better off going to a nice five-star hotel, at least that's what our clients told us, definitely not worth the money. read more

The service here is awful! Came for a concert and dinner. Got there & was told they only have a burger buffet. Ok what ever tried to order a food ticket from girl at front she told me to go to the ticket girl to get them then the ticket girl told me to go get them from girl in front or the bartender. Just totally getting the run around from employe. Burger buffet was supposed to be ready at 7 its now 7:45 & no burgers. $15 for the food tickets & we get this garbage! Edited to add: near the end of the night after looking for the restroom & seeing a sign taped to the men's restroom that said women only I asked the bartender where I could use the restroom & was told I was free to use the desert outside. I added another side of BBQ Beans with apples in the beans. Oh my gosh, I could have eaten the whole tray. The best! Then we tried the Banana pudding, so good. Overall, great visit. view was amazing, so quiet and peaceful in the back yard areas. What a fabulous evening!! Was so exciting watching Chayce Beckham perform in front of all his biggest fans!! At the outside bar they post all the drinks available . You wait In Line to order and they advise anything posted at the outside bar is only available inside. I waited at the inside bar and they advised me anything listed at the outside bar is only available outside. So I never could order the irish red beer. No one in this bar seems to know where this can be purchased. So we paid $20 each for a Selena show. Got there at the second song. No chairs. I scoped out the inside dining area and found a bunch of chairs unused but was told the owner won't let them out of the room. I promised to bring them back but no dice. So now I stand with 4 fused discs and bad pain for a show we paid to sit and watch. If you're gonna throw a show and sell seats, make sure folks with disabilities have a place to sit not forbidden chairs inside we can see but can't use. read more

My fiancé and I set up a site tour for a wedding here with coordinator Stacey on August 11th and she picked Aug 23 at 1pm. We said great. I asked if it was ok to being my SO's 3.5 year old as we were coming from a couple hours away and weren't sure if grandparents could watch him. She said no problem. I waited the two weeks until our tour and we left our home at 11am to give us plenty of time to get up there. While I'm driving, she texts me at 12:01 to tell me "I'm sorry, I have to move your appointment to 4. Is that ok?" For one, I'm driving and using my phone for nav so I can't just hand my phone off to have my fiancé text her while I'm driving. We were about 30 minutes away and already through the Cajon Pass by this time, and for all she knew we had a 3.5 year old with us on a 100° day. For two, for the love of professionalism, CALL WHEN YOU HAVE TO RESCHEDULE SOMEONE! My fiancé tried to text her back for a few moments but I needed my directions as I was getting off the freeway. She still hadnt responded. I tried to call, left a voicemail. She texted back 5 minutes later saying there was a staffing problem, if I can't do 4, she can try to do 2. "Please confirm". At this point it's 12:45 and I'm 5 minutes from parking on the site. So I texted her back then and told her we had just parked, hoping maybe she'd at least take a moment to come apologize or do or say something to us in person. We waited 15 minutes in 100° weather two hours from home. We had another appointment an hour away that I had carefully planned to give us an hour and a half to check out the venue. But 2 wouldn't give time. My fiancé texts her saying we waited 15 more minutes for a response and we will be leaving, will not use their venue, and will not recommend. Her only response was " Ok thank you have a great rest of your day and best wishes!" which was the "friendliest" message I had received in all our correspondence. We are terribly disappointed in their complete lack of professionalism, and I would never want to leave my wedding in her hands. We felt this could have been handled much better and we wouldn't be as upset, but she lacked any care in the world. Btw, I'm the "too kind for my own good" type, and my fiancé would not have been as kind as I was in my review Whatever event was going on, we saw no other masks, but we also refused to wander further than our vehicle since we just wanted to stretch our legs after a very long, very hot drive. read more

I don't like writing just bad reviews so read the whole Thing. Last night we went and it wasn't crowded. Thursday night 6pm service was great, food was delicious. No issues. We went for a concert last weekend Dave stamey. It was a great time. Got there early to get food. Took forever. Some burgers came out in 30 minutes. Others took an hour and a half. Burgers under cooked and slapped together. We went to the inside bar and one bartender working. Owner was behind the bar and asked the bartender for his beer but he could have got it himself or grabbed us ours. Kind of weird. When people ask me how the hilltop is I tell them hit or miss. Which is true. They are undedstaffed in the kitchen and bar. Guarantee the kitchen is undersized for the big events. We will go back but just hope it's a hit instead of a miss. read more

If you go during an off time you will probably enjoy you service and wings. The wings are good. I prefer them dry.. but tried a few sauces and they were good.. If you go during during peak times you should be prepared for waiting and very unorganized service with somewhat impatient, rude, and mumbling management who passively talk crap about people to themselves as they walk away. If the tall dude with the gray hair don't like his job or people then It's time to find a new occupation. Saturday night I was here for dinner. Could not get a table even though tables wer available. 15 min to just get someone's attention. Plus there was literally a line of 15 people at the bar waiting to order a drink. i gather that since my original review they have made some major investments in the outside stage, the open patio and the smaller pergola/altar area. The investments appear to include a larger pergola for events with some configurable walls and sun shading. The ambiance varies drastically between rather quiet and sedate and huge crowds of partying animalia. The difference is whether you go there for a scheduled event or a relatively "quiet" day. My tastes vary so I appreciate both kinds of situations. They have a lot of surrounding space, and are offset from Kiowa (the main road) and have plenty of room for vehicle parking and outside seating, etc., as weather tends to permit. And the sunsets from the patio are part of why I live in the desert in the first place. There are over 200 photos of the place already on yelp. I have noted some as "helpful" where they especially capture some of the venue space itself and the quite good food menu to be found there. read more

Ok, so I started this review as not being really impressed. My ghost pepper burger ended up being a jalapeño burger with fries instead of a ghost burger with onion rings. BUT, the staff and bartenders were awesome and I can't NOT mention meeting Sterling and his German Shepard Stella as well as the sweet couple with the chihuahua that were at the restaurant. This alone makes it a five star restaurant for me. This turned out to be a wonderful experience that included a thunder storm with a great view, good food although it wasn't what I ordered and meeting people in my community it's that I would have never met. read more
