I was quite disappointed with my current stay at this hotel because last time I was here everything was wonderful. My bathtub had quite a few hairs from different cultures in it and I had to rinse and wash the walls and the tub before taking a shower, The screws around the toilet don't have covers and the trashcan in the bathroom is dirty and scuffed. When the sun hit the room, I realized how dirty the flooring is. To top it all off the hotel had our checkout time mistakenly for 6:15 AM instead of 6:15 PM and they were calling the room and banging on the door, which woke me up. Front desk was very apologetic and I certainly appreciate their apology and the mistakes happen but the condition of the room and how dirty the floors are was disappointing.

My colleagues and I were convinced this was a lower brand hotel that had rebranded as a Hilton and as I came here to review it, it turns out we were correct. It used to be a DoubleTree. First the good... The front desk staff are welcoming, friendly, and responsive. Looking at you Darrell, Ty, and Tamara! The lower level has updated meeting space that can accompany groups for business meetings or other gatherings. There's also a Starbucks in the lobby and Blazer's Grill downstairs available for dinner and drinks. Now for the bad: There's a systemic issue with maintenance in the hotel. So many of us had toilets that would keep running unless you manually manipulated the handle, or lifted the lid, or toilets that had no water at all. Outlets aren't flush against the walls. I had splatters on various windows and walls and floors that I thought was poor cleaning but it turns out someone had repaired something and didn't do a proper clean-up ie plaster splatters from a ceiling repair on wallpaper, paint or caulk splatters on the corner of a mirror or shower stall. In addition there was something left to be desired with cleaning - hairs that weren't mine on the floor, debris under the bathroom counter, hard water stains in the toilet. I slid a small side table over a foot or two and the under rim was sticky. Because so many people in my group had these issues it didnt seem worth it to try to move rooms. This is apparently just the experience for most at this hotel. Then in the meeting rooms one day it was hot like a sauna and the overhead lights flickered (maintenance came to fix the lights). The next day the meeting room was cold like a meat locker. I expect a lot more from a Hilton property. My guess is being close to the University and the airport with University-related travelers and flight crews staying there, there isn't incentive to do better.

We checked in tired after a long drive and found both bedside lamps dead and half the outlets useless. A maintenance tech finally showed up (he was friendly, to be fair). He slid the nightstand away and an entire ecosystem of dust and crumbs spilled out. Then he sat on the floor and took the lamps apart piece by piece while we all just hovered there in awkward silence. He hauled the guts off to "rewire" them and came back later with the lights working but the plugs still didn't. The bathroom was worse: brown-red smears on the trash can, mildew creeping up the shower frame, and random pubic hairs stuck in the corners. I kept my shoes on the whole time. By 10 p.m., after more back-and-forth, they moved us to another room that was at least clean, but it was the same basic category-no upgrade, no real apology, just more hassle while our kids tried not to fall asleep standing up. She offered me 5,000 points and two breakfast vouchers-never mind that there are four of us. I declined. Hilton's "Make It Right" promise? Not here. Unsafe wiring, filthy surfaces, and a token offer that didn't even cover breakfast for the family. I've stayed in motels that cared more. Skip this place.

Bathroom shower - best shower head for a chain hotel

Hilton Birmingham is a nice! The rooms seem to be newly renovated. Prime location for access to UAB. The decor is very aesthetically appealing. The linen was crisp and pristine. The shower is best shower head for a chain hotel. I enjoyed the contactless check-in. My only con was the digital pass did not work for the parking garage so I had to call for help each time I was entering and exiting.

half empty cup by the bed with a sticky spill

This hotel is in a great location close to the UAB and various hospitals, however, my room was not clean at all! There was a half-empty cup that had spilled over by one of the beds, and major lime buildup on the shower pole. In addition, the power went out for over half of the day, and when it finally came on, only one elevator worked with no television services. I called the first desk numerous times to get the TV service restored, at which time I was told that they would send someone up to fix it right away, but never did. I woke up the next morning, and the television service was still not restored. They have a small refrigerator in the room but no microwave; instead, it's in the lobby. Honestly, there are other hotels next door and close by. I would suggest you go there instead, especially for the price. I am not only an extremely disappointed travel agent but also a traveler who will never book my clients here going forward.

I liked the hotel though our card key did not work and we had to go downstairs to get it working again. Also, our coffee maker did not work so we waited 35 minutes and 3 phone calls later for someeone to bring us a new one. The front desk was a little rude to me when I called back and seemed annoyed. I'm not sure why as I needed my coffee! The sleeping arrangements were good and the beds are comfortable as well. I notice now that in the bathrooms they have large plastic bottles of shampoo and more. It is located in the heart of downtown, Hilton Birmingham at UAB puts you within walking distance to the Five Points area and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Navigating the city is easy with MAX Connect and our complimentary shuttle within two miles from the hotel, as well as to the airport and train. You are just blocks away from Region's Park, home of the Birmingham Barons, Uptown, Lakeside and the BJCC Convention Center Complex. The hotel also features a six level parking facility with direct guest room access. The guest rooms with UAB-themed décor boast floor-to-ceiling windows and offer oversized workspace with ergonomic chair, refrigerator, safe and individually controlled air conditioning. You can select a large suite or executive room for a higher floor location, extra amenities, and Executive Lounge access with complimentary breakfast and refreshments throughout the day. We had breakfast in the LAB Market Café. I did not use room service available, 6:00am - 11:00pm. We also did not lounge by the outdoor swimming pool or make use of the fitness center, equipped with cardio machines and free weights. I know there is an outdoor terrace with fire pits and seating space...which we did not use either. We were with a group so we were on the go so much that many of these things were not part of our stay.

Dad and I were driving from Memphis to Atlanta to catch a flight but we both got sleepy in the process decided to stop by Doubletree and rest for exactly 3.5 hours. I read the reviews but noticed the ones about the nasty rooms were old so i didn't think anything of it. We checked in and the lady at the front desk wasn't the nicest but she always wasn't the worst. My Hilton Honors account has my maiden name but of course my DL has my married name. She gave me a small hard time but because my credit card has both names that turned around quickly. She tried to charge us for parking but we told her would pay per hour since it's cheaper and we were only staying a few hours. That was also a uphill battle. The first room (yes you read that right the First room) hadn't been clean. The bed was unmade and towels were on the bathroom floor. So dad and I went back down to request a new room. The manager was there than we advised her on the issue and guess what, NO APOLOGY. Really?!?! You place me in a dirty room and you can't at least apologize. The new room was on the same floor and thank goodness it was clean. We rested for 2.5 hours and was up and gone to catch our flight.

I wonder why there's no name listed on the door...

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a Hotels.com Gold member and to say that this is absolutely the worst hotel experience I have had is saying A LOT. First of all, they could not find my reservation and stated when they did, the room would not be ready at the 4pm check-in listed. When I voiced my displeasure, Bryan, the acting 'manager', didn't seem to comprehend what "customer service" means because he not only took this personally, he took joy in refusing to check me in because of what must be a massive ego. Furthermore, he provided no assistance in processing the pre-paid refund. I had to go directly to hotels.com which also wasn't a pleasant experience but I digress. I ended up staying at a Red Roof due to the Marathon weekend and hotels being full. But to be honest, I'm not sure it wasn't better than the shabbiness of the UAB Hilton. People don't make an effort to go to Birmingham often, and my only reason was for the marathon. I appreciate Bryan justifying the current Yelp rating of 2.5 stars, as well as a long string of other guests' negative reviews recently.

I like this location. It is close to several great restaurants and feels quite safe. It has a large parking deck that normally has plenty of room. The staff has been friendly and helpful. We had a few issues with cleanliness, which is a huge point of contention for me. The first one was a huge plate of dirty dishes that sat outside in our hallway for over a day. The second one was pee on our comforter. It wasn't done by us, and it really grossed us out. I love the lotions and soaps they use. They have a decent fitness center and pool. The restaurant and breakfast is Ok, but several great restaurants are close by so we don't normally eat there. The price is fair for what you get.We will likely stat there again.

When we got to our room we were amazed on how big the space was. We all had plenty of room so there was no overlapping of space between 3 people and there was plenty of nearby restaurants that we were able to walk to and Railroad Park to enjoy a day in the sun. The breakfast was good considering it was the holidays and the mini store was reasonably priced. My wife said that she would love to make this our regular hotel whenever we come in town. Great job!

The main reason we chose this location was because of the excellent experience we previously had at the Home2 Suites location in Hoover, Alabama. That property was superb, so we expected the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the downtown Birmingham location fell far short of those expectations. Upon entering our room, it was clear that cleanliness was an issue. The bathroom sink had brown residue in it, the shower floor was dirty, and there was hair throughout the bathroom. I actually had to clean the bathroom myself before feeling comfortable using it. The couch in the room was also covered in visible stains, making it unusable for us during our stay. To make matters worse, the ironing board completely fell apart while we were trying to iron our clothes. As a result, we had to iron our clothing on the bed, which is far from ideal and does not provide the same results as using a properly functioning ironing board. This was another indication that the room furnishings and equipment were not being adequately maintained. I will say that the beds were comfortable, and the hotel's downtown location is very convenient. Being close to restaurants, entertainment, and other attractions was definitely a plus. Another major concern was the parking situation. Guests are required to pay for self-parking, yet there was rarely any available parking. To make matters worse, catering vehicles from Taziki's, a restaurant located across from the hotel, appeared to be occupying spaces in the hotel parking area. Those spaces should be reserved for paying hotel guests. While the location is excellent, that alone does not make up for poor cleanliness, poorly maintained furnishings, and a lack of attention to the overall guest experience. This stay was a stark contrast to the outstanding experience we had at the Hoover location. Because of that, we will not be returning to this particular property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests can have a better experience.

My flight to Birmingham was cancelled upon arrival in Chicago at 9:30p and I could not get another flight to Birmingham for 24 hours, too late to attend my meeting. We were upgraded due to our Diamond status and upon checking into our room it was absolutely disgusting. The bedsheets appeared dingy and the bathroom was gross. There was hair on the ground and a vomit stain on the tile. So vile! We called downstairs right away and were moved to another room that was not much better. However, we were there for a family function and has other guests arriving that we has suggested the hotel to. We did notify the manager on duty and he told us he would escalate our concerns. The next day, the hotel manager, Tonya was on sight and sat down and spoke to us regarding the issues. Also, despite our complaints and meeting with her, our room was never even serviced by house keeping our entire stay. Now over 1 month later after no follow-up call or email, we contacted her and at first she acted as if she has no idea what we were talking about. Then she stated she escalated the issue to corporate but was unauthorized to issue more than 20,000 points, which covers absolutely nothing. And stated there was not really anything for her to do! She totally and outright lied to us, after she had assured us in person and in an email that our entire points would be compensated. She even had the audacity to even yell at us on the phone.
