We did not stay here. We delivered wedding flowers on August 15, 2026 and I want to complement the staff on their exemplary service. The front desk lady was so gracious and accommodating, the valet service was so helpful with helping us unload and load in. The hospitality manager also was so gracious and accommodating. When we were leaving an additional valet employee opened the door for my wife! I believe people in the hospitality industry should be hospitable and these employees were amazing. read more

It was fine, the staff were friendly and the rooms were comfortable. The layout of the rooms was a bit odd and inefficient, with a lot of bathroom space in front of the sink and down a hallway for the separate shower stall and toilet stall. The small couch in the main bedroom was a statement piece, but not exactly inviting. But overall the rooms were interesting. Breakfast didn't seem to be very popular when we were there as there weren't many guests at it, and they didn't deliver the cash box timely so paying with cash was an ordeal. The rooftop bar was a nice place to sit and quiet enough to have a conversation. The view over the city was nice to have, although not especially exciting. Valet parking was quick and easy, and the only option. It was conveniently located downtown with a bunch of food options around, including coffee shops. I wish I'd gotten a receipt as I left rather than waiting for an email because the email hadn't come by two days after, and the stay wasn't showing up in the app--not great, Marriott. When I called to get it I was on hold for quite a while--revising my review to lower from 4 stars for being adequate to good, to 3 stars because I had to wait in hold for over 16 minutes two days after my stay to get someone there on the phone to send me the bill for my stay, when it should have been sent immediately after I check out and automatically. I wanted to love it. I walked into the hotel and thought it was a beautiful building. The front desk guy was super sweet. I got to my room and at first glance it was super cute. However... The bed is hard as a rock. The mirrors were NOT clean. The toilet ran all night and flushed when it felt like flushing. The walls need some TLC. The QR codes for the restaurant menu don't work. If you want to see the menu just come to yelp for it. (Chicken and waffles was bomb tho.) Don't buy anything to drink from the little sundries shop because the front desk doesn't have a bottle opener and going back to the restaurant bar downstairs to get one will have you waiting forEVER. The moonshine bar on the roof or whatever it's called (sighs in disappointment) don't even bother. I went up there and smiled and said hello and no one even acknowledged me. Mind you? We went to Moonshine to celebrate. We were going to have food and drinks there and light her birthday cake so that we could have pretty scenery and pictures of Birmingham. As we walked in the door, found our spot a mob of staff came over to ID everyone and said that they saw someone that looked under age on their cameras. The only person that was young was my daughter who was 21 and had a birthday sash that said she's 21 so that was kind of weird. After everyone showed their IDs we asked if we could light the candles for her birthday cake and the bartender/staff said no that there had been a gas leak and that we were not allowed to have lighters and that we could not do that. So we decided to take the cake downstairs to the room. No birthday cake with candles and 21st birthday wishes or pictures to capture the moment and the memory. A little while later we returned back to Moonshine ordered food and drinks. One of the girls in our group of 7 (All individual tickets ) food was not brought out after 10 minutes of everyone else receiving theirs. We got up to check and they said that they thought it was already out, she finally received her order & eventually by that time everyone was already finished with their food and beverages. The next day checking out, the staff member at the front desk, asked how was everything and I had told her what it happened the night before with the incident upstairs at Moonshine. She raised her eye and nodded her head back-and-forth and said there has been no gas leak and if there was they would not be serving food much less have the hotel open for safety precaution. She said that that did not sound right at all. She said probably because it was a group of girls the bartender/staff maybe was just being rude because she said that she was aware that plenty of parties that would include cake and candles have been hosted upstairs plenty of times. The whole story about the gas leak is what really had me questioning what was going on? Was the girl just being ugly to us? Was there really a gas leak? All I know is that the cake that I purchased was useless and my daughter did not get to blow out her candles for her 21st birthday Noor capture the candid moments of doing so at this beautiful hotel for her special occasion. Well, I will say this, the concierge and everyone downstairs at the desk were very nice throughout the time there that we stayed and apologized for what it happened the night before. It's almost as if from the beginning, the bartender/staff came up to us and asked for our IDs, that denied using a lighter to light candles, and then the mixup with the order of our food seemed very intentional. I even began to question why they would be watching us on camera and single out one of the girls in our group who definitely doesn't look under age, but yet they did not have the problem with the actual 21-year-old birthday girl, but asked for all of our ID's and I'm 48 if that gives you any insight, the ladies that were with us, they were not children. These are grown women. The whole thing just ruined a special moment that my daughter will not be able to have again. You only turned 21 once. Spending money on a luxury hotel, food and beverage at Moonshine, ordering room service the next morning plus the purchase of the cake that we did not get to life at candles too seems to be a waste. Not a bad stay at all. It's an old bank and still has some of the old stuff incorporated into the design. It's a cool building on the outside too. Nice remodel into a hotel and very creative as well. I peaked into the rooms being serviced while I was leaving and none looked the same as mine in the inside. My room had a cool mail chute built into the wall. There is also the old directory in the lobby that listed the branch managers and workers that were on each floor. The inside interior design is very well done. The lobby area is so pretty. I love the graduating wall paint. Incredibly cool. My room had some strange nooks and crannies in it that really made it even cooler. There were windows tucked into tiny corners. Tons of uniqueness. The room was clean, well stocked, coffee maker worked, hot waster came fast, and the bed was super comfy. So much in fact, I thought I was home when I woke up to use the restroom in the night. My only gripe is the it's a bit rough around it. Not much you can do about that. The homeless people that are around are sad to see, and there were quite a few. I wish more could be done to help them. It's tough to sleep in a $250/night room and know people are asleep on the ground outside. Not shaming these fine folks, but it is what it is. I'd return. When I stay in Bham, I enjoy the Elyton. The ambiance is nice, it is an elevated experience. Some room are much bigger and impressive than others but they all have the same accommodations and decor. There is a cute restaurant downstairs and a rooftop bar with a nice view. I usually order in for breakfast and the food comes quickly and as ordered. The fitness room is the biggest problem for me. It is small. Even if it had the same equipment in a bigger space, that would be an upgrade. Although, more equipment would be ideal. The elevators are the other issue. They are very slow. Though, I appreciate the vintage touch. I am an elite member and was told that my late checkout could be at noon... a regular customer would be able to stay that late. On a Wednesday in Bham? I found it to be a little bit disingenuous. Other than that, I will be back. read more

I came here on a Saturday night because I was staying next-door at the Fairfield hotel. It was literally around the corner. We had several different drinks, including a margarita, a lemon drop martini, and some beer We have the margarita, pizza and the charcuterie board There was definitely a different crowd there ranging probably from the 20s to your 60s. The music was definitely not for the crowd. It was more like rap music. I think some 80s tunes probably would've been better. They definitely need to read the crowd. Definitely beautiful views of downtown Birmingham. It was a very casual environment. The bartenders were pretty attentive. Hopefully, they read this and rethink the music they play. Every part of our evening at the Moonshine Bar on top of Elyton Hotel was picturesque. We were greeted at the entrance of the hotel and escorted to the elevator. The elevator put us out at the bar entrance. We were encouraged to order at the bar and receive our drinks before sitting on the rooftop. We did this, but there were many staff who checked on us and served us drinks to our seat for the remainder of the evening. Of note, the cocktails were made to order and range from $10-$20. Although the view towards the west, sunset, is obscured from most of the rooftop, the weather permitted and made for a beautiful, breezy, moonlit night. The staff were very friendly, and the room was decent, though it could use some updates. Unfortunately, I'm leaving a 1-star review due to what happened after our stay. We had to cut our trip short in mid-March because of a dangerous tornado outbreak. Our support case (where we attempted to get some refund for the days we had to skip) was closed without any notice, so we had to ask for it to be reopened. After weeks of no communication, we finally received a simple "no" response with no explanation or reasoning provided. Not the type of service I'd expect from a respectable establishment. read more

I hadn't been to Birmingham in several years, so I was looking for a new Marriott property to stay at. The Elyton Hotel is a Marriott Autograph boutique hotel located downtown. It opened in 2017 and features 111 rooms. When we entered the lobby, you can tell they had an amazing interior designer at work. Beautiful furniture, lighting and artwork. Instead of walking to a counter, you sit at a desk for your check-in. I had read many reviews on the Marriott website about the hotel that made me somewhat uncertain whether this was the right pick. Guests were complaining about air conditioning, street noise, hot water in the shower, lack of room service, cleanliness, etc. We experienced none of these issues in our two-night stay. In fact, there was a bottle of Prosecco in our room because it was my birthday. If you are wowed by the lobby, the rooms are equally stylish. Being a historic property, I knew the rooms weren't going to be large, and they're not. A lot of space was wasted in the entrance and hallway. The bathroom sink is beautifully lit by a cool looking mirror, but there simply isn't enough light, especially for women and makeup. There are numerous high-end restaurants within walking distance, including Helen and Café Dupont. Downtown was pretty empty on a weekend. Other than the room size and bathroom lighting, the $300+ rate seemed steep. read more

There is minimal if any security presence at this hotel, you should avoid it all costs. I have seen vagrants wandering the halls at night, and my car was stolen from their lot never to be recovered. With the police, we observed on the surveillance camera footage that the front desk clerk unlocked the valet key box then walked away leaving it unlocked and a person then opened it and took my keys and stole my car. Even though the hotel's negligence was clearly captured on video they have refused to take responsibility for the incident. Do not stay here, there are many better hotels in Birmingham. read more

The toilets are industrial and flush loud! Rooftop bar is kind of dark and not enticing despite the view. New bartender was sweet but the drinks were lacking. Worst part is the people that work there were just not there. The front desk guy was sweet as was the waitress for a mediocre breakfast (I wouldn't eat there unless I was desperate). the rest of the people that worked there were on another astral plane. No hospitality or even acknowledgement that another human was there. this hotel is gorgeous but unfortunately it stops there.. we arrived late around 11:30 and since the valet was gone for the day, the front desk clerk assured us we could leave our key with her and she would make sure she gave it to them at 6 a.m. When we went to pick up our vehicle to leave, we discovered she never did and they had lost our key!!! After much scrambling and panicking they finally found it in a random drawer. We were almost late to our event due to this mishap. the AC in our room didn't work, so we had a very hot and stuffy room but it was midnight and we were exhausted, and we hoped maybe it would just take a little bit to cool down. it only got hotter in the room as the night went on so we got hardly any sleep! and the icing on the cake, we paid extra for a "breakfast package" that was supposed to include a credit for breakfast for $60. once we got the receipt I realized they charged us for our breakfast in addition to the extra we had paid for that package... and we are still waiting on a refund! I requested to have it escalated to a manager but I have not yet heard from one. i would never again pay $350+ a night for this kind of experience that was supposed to be a quick relaxing getaway for my husband and I. read more

Pretty cool hotel in an old restored building. What one would might call bougie. Pretty nice decor but the rooms are small. They didn't have a business center which was a negative. The hall to the restaurant smelled of sewer and the bath on the 11th floor also has a distinct odor which was not pleasant. The roof top bar has awesome views but they were out of most liquors which doesn't make sense. I sat there for about an hour listening to the bartender explain why he couldn't make drinks on the menu because they didn't have the basic ingredients. Let's not get into the overpriced drinks with mediocre pizza which is the only thing they make. Not impressed at all. I hate giving negative reviews but come on Marriott..... you can do better than this. 2 stars based on the view and you are lucky to get that. I stay 75 nights a year with Marriott and I will not be back to this property. read more

just like mr.daviss from texas we were traveling through to miami last october 2024 - same thing happened to us our 150k performance truck trx was stolen - no report from the valet etc - nevertheless we carried on got a nice rental and had a great rest of our trip - we are marriott rewards but never got a response from anyone about the issue - no help would not even give us a ride to the rental car - the valet did respond with an email telling us they were not responsible - surprise !! lol the most interesting part is why i am writing this now - our truck was found on a stop in jackson ms 3 days ago - the officer told me there is a definite ring of thieves linked from this town to his town jackson ms of course the truck goes to the insurance company as we bought a new one - we are just fortunate an grateful to the officer in jackson ms that the thieves no longer have our truck to drive - thank you officer jm !! god be with you read more

There was a small misunderstanding with my room booking, but Miss Doll at the front desk was amazing and handled it quickly. The historic aspect, age, and decor are pretty cool. This is my experience: no toilet paper in room, anywhere. Sink is clogged. Body wash and shampoo dispensers are empty. Plenty of conditioner. Curtains are jammed and won't close all the way. Probably the worst thing is how I can hear EVERYTHING in the room next to me. I can hear everything the gentleman next to me is saying on the phone. I can hear the Tv like it's in my room. I can hear bare feet walking on the floor tile. Deep breaths and sighs. Seriously everything. It wakes me up in the AM and it's keeping me awake right now. Spent two nights here on my last business trip which might be the last for some time (stay safe!). I probably spend 25 nights a year at hotel while traveling on business and the Elyton is one of the better ones. A nicely rehabbed historic hotel with just the right amount of funkiness in the room. Reminds me of the Kimpton in Downtown Denver. Room was long and skinny, but nicely laid out. Furnishings were good quality and the bed was comfortable. The thing that really stood out was the speed of the in-room wifi. Most hotels have "fast enough" included wifi (5-6 Mbps), but I tested the Elyton's and it rang up at 150 Mbps. The speed difference was noticeable which is what triggered me to test. I did not have a chance to try the restaurant or bar, but the front desk and valet were friendly and efficient. Really awful stay at this hotel July 21/22, 2024. From the beginning it was a disaster with feckless management (Tiffany Williams) and an obnoxiuos mix of attitude and miscommunication on the part of the night clerk Zenneta, clearly standing around trying to do as little as possible to help arriving guests. Though I had booked a reservation in advance I was not allowed to park my car containing valuables in their two secure parking lots after the Valet subcontracting company unrelated to the hotel, had closed them for the night. Feckless management hadn't considered or made available any parking pass to the alternative of public parking on the street. Not even a simple paper pass was available. For a $300 a night hotel that is inexcusable. Marriot Reservations was, at least in my case, very nearly completely unhelpful. I had to ask another property from Hilton located nearby for permission to park there for the night and haul my belongings the 3/4 mile back to the Elyton at 1:00 am in the morning through downtown Birmingham - quite unsafe at night. Instead of resolving the matter satisfactorily management and front desk played further games in the morning by refusing to meet with me or taking responsibility for such deplorable service. They failed at honesty, availability and did not take the initiative to call my phone either to be respectful. The hotel itself is not great, claustrophobic and dark, the lighting in guest rooms is poor, the hotel is not new feeling except for the lobby and public spaces, nor especially clean, nor are guest services really a priority at all. Skip this hotel and go elsewhere, this is less than a quality stay and not worth the price and bad/rude service, no appreciation for guests nor proper redress for simple issues. read more

We enjoyed our recent weekend stay at the Elyton. We chose a corner king room and were on a lower floor. The room was great and we utilized the available k-cup coffee service for lazy start mornings. The bath area was a great setup - roomy shower and private toliet area. Makeup mirror came in handy. The valet was prompt and courteous - we had all meals offsite. We met the general manager as we were leaving and he went out of his way to help us load our car! There was Friday night street noise but it did eventually quiet down - clearly no fault of a hotel in an urban setting. The noise was not an issue on Saturday evening. I was promised a refund on my hotel stay due to the state of emergency in Alabama from bad weather and tornados but then the general manager said no refund. I did have a non refundable rate but due to the circumstances and being told I would get a refund from the kind hotel receptionist, I thought that's great, especially since we haven't stayed here before. We were staying for a dance competition but our studio canceled due to safety concerns and wanted families to travel back home safely. Our state was also under a state of emergency so I was just wanting to get back home quickly. I've been a customer of Marriott for many years and this was very poor customer service, will never recommend anyone to stay here!! read more

Not for me! The room was tiny for the two of us. The shower water hardly warmed and when I advised the staff, the reply was "we've had that problem." Staff was nice and pleasant but not well trained. The conditioner and liquid soap were empty when I showered in the morning. I politely advised staff to replenish and the next day, still empty. The view is great. Yet they are out of most standard alcohol because their GM "forgot" to place the liquor order. You should have Tito's and other basic liquor for this price hotel. This is a really lovely hotel to stay in when visiting the Downtown Birmingham area in Alabama. The hotel is located on a corner property at what's known as "the heaviest corner on Earth". It's a great spot amidst what appears to be a Birmingham revival. There is a gourmet chocolate shop around the block, and several cafes and restaurants are within walking distance, as well as a charming used book store. It's nice to have these nearby because it is mostly a driving town regardless of the massive sidewalk infrastructure of downtown Birmingham. The hotel is narrow and tall and gets an A+ for effort in all domains. The style integration into its architectural stunning environment is very impressive. It sits amidst a massive collection of magnificent buildings that have mostly been shuttered and it is a privilege to be able to stay there and gaze at these buildings and imagine their glorious heydays. The lobby retains marble and stairwell that appears to be from the 1920's perhaps (this is only a guess and not checked for accuracy. The elevators are headed with dial floor indicators. The lobby is filled with gigantic benches that are extremely long or very high backed and are a pleasure to sit in and look at. There is complimentary aromatic morning coffee on the lobby credenza. The mood is cheery and simple and although the Yard restaurant is not necessarily Vegan friendly, the salad and veggies were delicious and the chef and wait staff really wanted to help. There is a great rooftop bar and has great views of the city from its outside deck. Our room was very comfortable felt like a luxurious apartment. There are wrap around windows. The bathroom was on the small and awkward side but modern and wonderful, with yellow glass doors. read more

First, let me start with the positive. The hotel staff is very nice and the rooms were clean. The bed was very comfortable. The negatives are that the room service food was bad. The thermostat on the wall was so bright at night, that it lit up the whole room and was very annoying. They didn't have a room service menu and they told us room service wasn't available but we complained enough so they did it. The worst part of the whole experience was at night. We didn't get any sleep because people were drag racing outside the hotel and blasting their music so loud it felt like it was in our room 6 floors up. This continued all night long. The Elyton Hotel is the first of Marriot's specially curated "Autograph Collection" Hotels I've stayed in and, to be blunt, it's my favorite hotel in the city. It's also a rather expensive place to stay in and I've only been here twice - once through a free award and another time through the cheapest rate I could find of $180 a night. That said, I believe I have enough to say about my experience here to write a proper review. One of my favorite things to do with unique hotels like this is look into the history of it all, TL;DR at the bottom. The hotel is actually developed over the historic Empire Building, built in 1906, and has seen many businesses and services located within its many floors. In 1964, City National Bank purchased and renovated the building for its operations. In 1984, the building was added to the National Registrar of Historic Places, but it seemingly become abandoned in the early 21st century. That changed in 2012, when John Tampa of Georgia-based Ascent Hospitality purchased the building. Within the next few years, he collaborated with others to renovate the building into what it is today, as well as a nearby Fairfield Inn and The Yard - a restaurant located within the hotel. The entrance alone says "boutique hotel" - a grand chandelier, white marble everywhere, and a deliberately pleasant aroma from a diffuser entices you to turn the corner and check in. The lobby is full of interesting art pieces and decorations that make it almost feel like a museum exhibit. Checking in has always been a great experience for me and the staff are very helpful in answering any and all questions. The rooms themselves vary a fair bit due to the nature of building - for standard rooms, you'll either have what essentially looks like a suite or a long hallway. Despite the age of the building, everything from the appliances to the decor in the rooms are modern and up-to-date. However, in both of my stays here, I have had to call someone from the front desk to help me with something. The first time it was a dirty and broken shower, and the second time it was a lack of shampoo and conditioner (worth mentioning - they use a fancy brand and keep it locked up in bottles, no individual amenities to take home). Generally speaking, the Elyton is a fantastic choice if you want to really make your stay in Birmingham memorable. The hotel itself is a historic building dating back over 100 years, it has a rooftop bar on the 16th floor that serves refreshing cocktails and amazing views of the city, it offers a full-service upscale restaurant in which I've had many delicious meals, and overall it has a charm few hotels possess, hence the Autograph Collection moniker it touts. TL;DR The Elyton Hotel is a unique gem of a hotel located in the heart of Birmingham. The staff offers incredibly refined service and strive to make your stay unforgettable; however, the hotel does have a bit of a consistancy problem with housekeeping and you may have to call someone up to your room to get something cleaned or restocked. read more

First off, this place is stunning. I love this collection of hotels soo much. That said, a few opportunities here. The signage outside is almost impossible to see unless you have an idea of what you're looking for. They have no dedicated driveway but one shared at the Fairfield next door. The valet had some not so nice folks working there and at least one of them went through my girlfriends console, not cool. My check in experience was also not so great. The agent was far from friendly or welcoming and acted as if I interrupted her conversation with another employee. I'd probably stay again but not for the going rates. read more

I am very disappointed in this hotel. Second time staying here. You may want to self park since it's $30 for valet. But that is not the poor experience. The rooftop bar has couches that are full of disgusting stains and was not impressed with my $15 glass of wine served in a small white wine glass. They seemed understaffed and inexperienced. However, the bar food was not bad. Due to location I was kept up all night with loud noises and garbage trucks etc. When I couldn't sleep I went to make some coffee in the kuerig (which had mole I wiped out) but after all that the machine was broken. I called downstairs and room service doesn't start untIl 6:30am. Good luck! read more
