The Westin is a mess. Should have stayed at the Elyton or Grand Bohemian. Anyway, here's a recap of what I experienced in my 3 night stay. Cons: -$28 self parking and for 2 nights didn't work which meant I just sit there and wait for a LAZ parking employee who hassles you and gets all your info or go all the way back to the hotel (5-7 min walk and ditch your car) -self park is far away, valet $38 a night -the front desk has NEVER answered the phone. Tip: valet answers so just call them but they will say I don't know and then put you on hold to go ask the front desk who doesn't answer -breakfast at Casey's was free with status but a pain in the booty. They won't let you get coffee - you have to be waited on. Food is okay. -the room hallway carpets are filthy. Like, the dirtiest carpet you've even seen. Holy hell- we are tracking that into the rooms. -I booked this place because of the pool and hot tub. Guess what - they are broken. No one mentioned this at check in even though I said how excited I was and asked the hours, etc. there isn't even I sign up saying it! So you change and go down there and it's half full! -rooftop parties during the week until after 10pm. -all doors slam so you can't be quiet or courteous to your neighbors coming into the room -no fan in bathroom -bathroom door is huge and bathroom is tiny so really hard to maneuver in there. Fine if you're alone but not with 2 people -curtains are 10 feet in room but don't cover edges so light comes in- hard to have a dark room Pros: -bed is comfy -elevator is fast -street parking free and easy to find - towels are fluffy -mini fridge in room (but not plugged in when you arrive) Westin needs to do some work here. Would only stay here again if it was free.

Westin Birmingham - I will never recommend your property to anyone, will never use your business again and will be filling a complaint to the local BBB about your practices. Apparently it is ok for you to "overbook" you property to ensure your profits, and in the meantime, the people that made a "reservation" 6 months in advance get the shaft because your billion dollar system and business model allows reservations to be disregarded. Westin Mgt - one of the supposed "managers" at you establishment needs to be educated on professionalism... Deidre Johnson - your check in manager (2022.02.11) is not a professional. After driving several hours and arriving at your property I was immediately told the the reservation I made 6 months in advance was no longer available. (Family of 4, 2 beds) After voicing my frustration I reluctantly accepted anything still available (1 king). Deidre asked my for my ID and I frustratedly tossed my ID on the counter after which Ms Johnson indicated she was not going to be disrespected by my tossing my ID and refused to check me in... She indicated she did nothing wrong so why was I giving her a hard time.. I then explained to her that it WAS HER JOB, AS AN EMPLOYEE/CUSTOMER MANAGER to be the messenger for her employer and be ready to handle customers that were going to clearly be upset due to the purposeful actions of her company. She refused to work with me further, purposefully made a scene and caused more friction with OTHER bystanders that were also being actively shafted (had their reservations changed or lost their rooms entirely, etc) Wesley Sage - Sr Ops Mgr for Westin Birmingham And... I just called the number(s) on the business card I was given - one was disconnected, the other went to some random person. And, this is the second year in a row I've had issue with this property... And, In the 24hrs I've been here I've heard countless others explaining similar situations. So apparently what happened to a small few is not an isolated incident, I've heard from dozens now and more new stories from the next morning, to include random people I've observed in the lobby... This is an "accepted business practice" by this property and it will be reported...

Below is a photo of the cockroach in our bathroom. The manager basically said too bad and hung up on me after I reported it.

Staying at the Westin on a work layover. It's a little outside of downtown but has a pub and a Texas de Brazil near by. It walking distance to downtown (30 minutes) There is a Wmca within walking distance to workout. The rooms are clean and comfortable and they include a small refrigerator. The front desk was very nice and had me checked in very quickly. There is a breakfast shop called Santos uptown a few minutes away. Great overall stay and would come back again Ed @soflo_bjj

First time staying at a Westin. I was here just for one night as a mini staycation and overall enjoyed my time here. There were just a few odd occurances, which I'll detail below. Checking in was a bit strange - the man at the front desk informed me that I had two rooms booked under my name when I had only made one reservation. Looking into it, it seems a room upgrade request was fufilled but my previous room was not properly cancelled. That was swiftly taken care of though, and in the end I was upgraded to a corner king room, which I was very happy about. There was a slight problem when I was asked for my ID. Turns out I had left it at home and I was freaked out because I didn't know what to do. The manager was called over and she brought a security officer with her, which struck me as a bit confrontational and set an aggressive tone. I was able to show her a photo of my passport I had as a substitute, but I did feel that the security officer was a bit much. The accomodation itself was fantastic - it was very spacious and having a corner room with windows facing two different directions was something new for me. I had a great view of the sports complex being construed across the street, Texas de Brazil, and Uptown. There was a minor problem with some of the lights in the room initially flickering and not working, but I managed to get them functional with a bit of tinkering. Unfortunately, most of the hotel's services are discontinued due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, understandably so. I suspect I'll have to stay here again in the future to get the full Westin experience, but as far as hotels go, I had a very good time staying here and enjoyed having Uptown within walking distance.

For a Westin, this location is sub-par. They are not properly staffed for a weekend. Upon arrival (4 PM) my room was not ready. My room was finally ready at 5 PM after I said I was moving to the Hilton UB a few blocks away. I asked them to pay for my parking (maybe 1.25 hours) and the answer they gave me was - "We contract that out." And what does that have to do with the customer? I think this location has forgotten was what "take care of the customer, whatever it takes" really means. Why not say "Even though we contract the parking, we'll take care of it. We apologize for the customer experience you've had with us. In the future, we hope you'll give us another chance to earn your business"? Simple. I was not paying for the parking. I decided to stay and check-in. I asked the front desk person to ask the on-site manager to contact me (phone, stop by my room, or I could come downstairs) before she departs for the evening. After my initial review, more went wrong with my stay. As I was checking out, I let the young lady know I wanted to put my pantry charge ($6) on my personal Visa and leave the room charges/tax/parking on the AmEx. She separated the charges but charged my personal Visa for all of the charges. Really? WOW. I had to call corporate, leave a message for accounting and I spoke with Jaylan on 1/26 about the issue. He's supposed to leave a note for his boss to get with accounting so they can credit my personal Visa for the room charge/taxes/parking and charge my AmEx instead. The room was great, but everything thing else was not what I expected. The good thing, at this point - I received a call from Brian/Bryan and he's following up to make sure the room charge, taxes and valet parking charge are applied to my AmEx and credit for the same amount is sent to my personal Visa. He said to follow-up with him on Wednesday, January 29 to make sure both things were completed. The refund to my personal Visa was complete. And they charged my AmEx for the correct charges. If I decide to stay here again, and probably not, I hope the customer experience will be significantly better.

When we got to our room we were amazed on how big the space was. We all had plenty of room so there was no overlapping of space between 3 people and there was plenty of nearby restaurants that we were able to walk to and Railroad Park to enjoy a day in the sun. The breakfast was good considering it was the holidays and the mini store was reasonably priced. My wife said that she would love to make this our regular hotel whenever we come in town. Great job!

The main reason we chose this location was because of the excellent experience we previously had at the Home2 Suites location in Hoover, Alabama. That property was superb, so we expected the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the downtown Birmingham location fell far short of those expectations. Upon entering our room, it was clear that cleanliness was an issue. The bathroom sink had brown residue in it, the shower floor was dirty, and there was hair throughout the bathroom. I actually had to clean the bathroom myself before feeling comfortable using it. The couch in the room was also covered in visible stains, making it unusable for us during our stay. To make matters worse, the ironing board completely fell apart while we were trying to iron our clothes. As a result, we had to iron our clothing on the bed, which is far from ideal and does not provide the same results as using a properly functioning ironing board. This was another indication that the room furnishings and equipment were not being adequately maintained. I will say that the beds were comfortable, and the hotel's downtown location is very convenient. Being close to restaurants, entertainment, and other attractions was definitely a plus. Another major concern was the parking situation. Guests are required to pay for self-parking, yet there was rarely any available parking. To make matters worse, catering vehicles from Taziki's, a restaurant located across from the hotel, appeared to be occupying spaces in the hotel parking area. Those spaces should be reserved for paying hotel guests. While the location is excellent, that alone does not make up for poor cleanliness, poorly maintained furnishings, and a lack of attention to the overall guest experience. This stay was a stark contrast to the outstanding experience we had at the Hoover location. Because of that, we will not be returning to this particular property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests can have a better experience.

Not a bad stay at all…read more It's an old bank and still has some of the old stuff incorporated into the design. It's a cool building on the outside too. Nice remodel into a hotel and very creative as well. I peaked into the rooms being serviced while I was leaving and none looked the same as mine in the inside. My room had a cool mail chute built into the wall. There is also the old directory in the lobby that listed the branch managers and workers that were on each floor. The inside interior design is very well done. The lobby area is so pretty. I love the graduating wall paint. Incredibly cool. My room had some strange nooks and crannies in it that really made it even cooler. There were windows tucked into tiny corners. Tons of uniqueness. The room was clean, well stocked, coffee maker worked, hot waster came fast, and the bed was super comfy. So much in fact, I thought I was home when I woke up to use the restroom in the night. My only gripe is the it's a bit rough around it. Not much you can do about that. The homeless people that are around are sad to see, and there were quite a few. I wish more could be done to help them. It's tough to sleep in a $250/night room and know people are asleep on the ground outside. Not shaming these fine folks, but it is what it is. I'd return. For sure. '26 - 50

Posting for a friend. Email account is Christylee6578@gmail.com…read more She will be contacting corporate. Had a bad experience while staying there. I rented a room for my daughter's 21st birthday. We went to Moonshine to celebrate. We were going to have food and drinks there and light her birthday cake so that we could have pretty scenery and pictures of Birmingham. As we walked in the door, found our spot a mob of staff came over to ID everyone and said that they saw someone that looked under age on their cameras. The only person that was young was my daughter who was 21 and had a birthday sash that said she's 21 so that was kind of weird. After everyone showed their IDs we asked if we could light the candles for her birthday cake and the bartender/staff said no that there had been a gas leak and that we were not allowed to have lighters and that we could not do that. So we decided to take the cake downstairs to the room. No birthday cake with candles and 21st birthday wishes or pictures to capture the moment and the memory. A little while later we returned back to Moonshine ordered food and drinks. One of the girls in our group of 7 (All individual tickets ) food was not brought out after 10 minutes of everyone else receiving theirs. We got up to check and they said that they thought it was already out, she finally received her order & eventually by that time everyone was already finished with their food and beverages. The next day checking out, the staff member at the front desk, asked how was everything and I had told her what it happened the night before with the incident upstairs at Moonshine. She raised her eye and nodded her head back-and-forth and said there has been no gas leak and if there was they would not be serving food much less have the hotel open for safety precaution. She said that that did not sound right at all. She said probably because it was a group of girls the bartender/staff maybe was just being rude because she said that she was aware that plenty of parties that would include cake and candles have been hosted upstairs plenty of times. The whole story about the gas leak is what really had me questioning what was going on? Was the girl just being ugly to us? Was there really a gas leak? All I know is that the cake that I purchased was useless and my daughter did not get to blow out her candles for her 21st birthday Noor capture the candid moments of doing so at this beautiful hotel for her special occasion. Well, I will say this, the concierge and everyone downstairs at the desk were very nice throughout the time there that we stayed and apologized for what it happened the night before. It's almost as if from the beginning, the bartender/staff came up to us and asked for our IDs, that denied using a lighter to light candles, and then the mixup with the order of our food seemed very intentional. I even began to question why they would be watching us on camera and single out one of the girls in our group who definitely doesn't look under age, but yet they did not have the problem with the actual 21-year-old birthday girl, but asked for all of our ID's and I'm 48 if that gives you any insight, the ladies that were with us, they were not children. These are grown women. The whole thing just ruined a special moment that my daughter will not be able to have again. You only turned 21 once. Spending money on a luxury hotel, food and beverage at Moonshine, ordering room service the next morning plus the purchase of the cake that we did not get to life at candles too seems to be a waste. Beautiful hotel, but definitely would not recommend to anyone that wanted to have a celebration. God forbid you light a candle.

I would rate this Hilton property 0 stars if we could. We are loyal Hilton Diamond members and have stayed at multiple Hilton properties around the world. This was one of the worst properties we have ever stayed at. We stayed here in February and from the time we attempted to check in, it was disappointing. We were upgraded due to our Diamond status and upon checking into our room it was absolutely disgusting. The bedsheets appeared dingy and the bathroom was gross. There was hair on the ground and a vomit stain on the tile. So vile! We called downstairs right away and were moved to another room that was not much better. However, we were there for a family function and has other guests arriving that we has suggested the hotel to. We did notify the manager on duty and he told us he would escalate our concerns. The next day, the hotel manager, Tonya was on sight and sat down and spoke to us regarding the issues. She agreed that our experience was 100% unacceptable and promised to compensate our Hilton Honors points for our entire stay. She assured us that she would make this happen. Also, despite our complaints and meeting with her, our room was never even serviced by house keeping our entire stay. Now over 1 month later after no follow-up call or email, we contacted her and at first she acted as if she has no idea what we were talking about. Then she stated she escalated the issue to corporate but was unauthorized to issue more than 20,000 points, which covers absolutely nothing. And stated there was not really anything for her to do! She totally and outright lied to us, after she had assured us in person and in an email that our entire points would be compensated. She even had the audacity to even yell at us on the phone. This is not the type of experience I expect as a loyal Hilton Diamond Member. In conclusion avoid this disgusting and poor quality Hilton property at all costs.

The hotel has parking, but there is also parking across the street for a fraction of the cost. It was about ten dollars for twelve hours or twenty dollars for twenty four hours, so that is worth knowing if you are trying to save a little money. The location is another major plus. It is very central and walkable. I used Yelp to find several restaurants nearby and was able to walk downtown to different spots without any problem. That convenience really adds value to the stay. I even stopped by the bar and they were kind enough to give me ice and help me out there too. Honestly, the staff here are so nice that it really pushes the experience up for me. In my head this is about four and a half stars, and on Yelp I am happy to round that up to 5 stars.
