The Westin Birmingham is centralized in the Uptown District. When I attend events in the area, I park in a nearby parking deck and use skywalk to get over to the hotel. The hotel is always clean and quiet anytime I am there. The restrooms are clean and spacious. This is a great hotel to visit if you are in the area. We stayed here for about 12 hours on our way to FL. The breakfast voucher was nice until you go down to breakfast. It feels very thrown together. I ordered the Avocado Toast and it came on bread that was barely toasted, butter and half an avocado that was sliced. (Pic attached). My daughters pancakes were cold and my husbands omelette came about 15 minutes after our food. The omelette tastes like fish. We left the food on the table since 2 of the 3 were free and left $10 for the server. We then left and went to Santos Coffee shop. It appeared others were doing the same thing we did. The options were better but when we tried to put it on our room we were told they were not associated with the hotel and needed to pay. The hotel in general seems to be in a good spot right across from UAB Stadium and some food options. The hotel itself is very run down. We would not come back. read more

Stayed for about 4 nights. The area was nice and quiet. Here's the summary- Had the buffet breakfast there a couple mornings. They ran out coffee at 0950 even tho breakfast is over at 10. No late checkout even tho we're platinum elite members. We asked to change rooms but they said no, they could Only downgrade us. (We booked a corner room which was supposed to be an upgrade but it didn't seem to be) It was just corner room regular windows. Not friendly feeling from the front desk girls. Place is dark. Bar was closed during our entire stay. Sheraton was cheaper and more lively and open and bright We should've booked there. But we did have friends that stayed there and they weren't impressed. But their bar was open and lively. You could easily hear the Noise outside. Small gym Breakfast buffet was blah for $30?? Not worth it but there was not much around to walk to for breakfast. Carpets rippled and dirty. Way too expensive over Sheraton which is a lesser brand. Lack of storage for two No housekeeping credit Light peeps through curtain Workers don't greet. Would NOT stay here again! But to be fair, I have never stayed in the area and don't have comparisons over other hotels. read more

The Westin is a mess. Should have stayed at the Elyton or Grand Bohemian. Anyway, here's a recap of what I experienced in my 3 night stay. Cons: -$28 self parking and for 2 nights didn't work which meant I just sit there and wait for a LAZ parking employee who hassles you and gets all your info or go all the way back to the hotel (5-7 min walk and ditch your car) -self park is far away, valet $38 a night -the front desk has NEVER answered the phone. Tip: valet answers so just call them but they will say I don't know and then put you on hold to go ask the front desk who doesn't answer -breakfast at Casey's was free with status but a pain in the booty. They won't let you get coffee - you have to be waited on. Food is okay. -the room hallway carpets are filthy. Like, the dirtiest carpet you've even seen. Holy hell- we are tracking that into the rooms. -I booked this place because of the pool and hot tub. Guess what - they are broken. No one mentioned this at check in even though I said how excited I was and asked the hours, etc. there isn't even I sign up saying it! So you change and go down there and it's half full! -rooftop parties during the week until after 10pm. -all doors slam so you can't be quiet or courteous to your neighbors coming into the room -no fan in bathroom -bathroom door is huge and bathroom is tiny so really hard to maneuver in there. Fine if you're alone but not with 2 people -curtains are 10 feet in room but don't cover edges so light comes in- hard to have a dark room Pros: -bed is comfy -elevator is fast -street parking free and easy to find - towels are fluffy -mini fridge in room (but not plugged in when you arrive) Westin needs to do some work here. The Weston was disappointing. We reserved two queen beds because they were out of King Beds. This was a Porsche Parade where over 2,000 guests were going to stay at this location . When we got to the room we found two double beds. My husband is 6'3 and with both of us in the bed it was cramped and small. Apparently hotels advertise queen beds and fill them with double beds. In addition there was one restaurant in the building that recently changed ownership. We went there for breakfast and we waited 45 minutes to receive our food. They asked if we minded having coffee in styrofoam cups because all the ceramic cups were dirty. It took 2 hours before we received our breakfast. It is unfortunate that this place is prolly the best Bham has to offer. The restaurant inside the hotel is shitty and gets 1.7 of 5 rating. the staff cleans your room every other day and they don't tell you that until you complain. the fixtures and carpets are old, broken and or outdated. Showers smelled like mildew and had mildew growing on the grout, bed comforters had stains, carpets were stained, and the carpets in the hallways are stained and have giant ripples making it very difficult to roll any luggage. We had 2 rooms and both were just as bad. Valet was nowhere to be found when it was time to checkout and it took about 20 mins to get our car... and we were the only ones there. I travel a lot and stay in many Marriott hotels regularly because of their consistency and this hotel fell way below the Marriott standard. Definitely not Westin or Marriott worthy. read more

Westin Birmingham - I will never recommend your property to anyone, will never use your business again and will be filling a complaint to the local BBB about your practices. Apparently it is ok for you to "overbook" you property to ensure your profits, and in the meantime, the people that made a "reservation" 6 months in advance get the shaft because your billion dollar system and business model allows reservations to be disregarded. Westin Mgt - one of the supposed "managers" at you establishment needs to be educated on professionalism... Deidre Johnson - your check in manager (2022.02.11) is not a professional. After driving several hours and arriving at your property I was immediately told the the reservation I made 6 months in advance was no longer available. (Family of 4, 2 beds) After voicing my frustration I reluctantly accepted anything still available (1 king). Deidre asked my for my ID and I frustratedly tossed my ID on the counter after which Ms Johnson indicated she was not going to be disrespected by my tossing my ID and refused to check me in... She indicated she did nothing wrong so why was I giving her a hard time.. I then explained to her that it WAS HER JOB, AS AN EMPLOYEE/CUSTOMER MANAGER to be the messenger for her employer and be ready to handle customers that were going to clearly be upset due to the purposeful actions of her company. She refused to work with me further, purposefully made a scene and caused more friction with OTHER bystanders that were also being actively shafted (had their reservations changed or lost their rooms entirely, etc) Wesley Sage - Sr Ops Mgr for Westin Birmingham And... I just called the number(s) on the business card I was given - one was disconnected, the other went to some random person. And, this is the second year in a row I've had issue with this property... And, In the 24hrs I've been here I've heard countless others explaining similar situations. So apparently what happened to a small few is not an isolated incident, I've heard from dozens now and more new stories from the next morning, to include random people I've observed in the lobby... It walking distance to downtown (30 minutes) There is a Wmca within walking distance to workout. The rooms are clean and comfortable and they include a small refrigerator. Excellent location for our visit to Legacy Arena at BJCC. This hotel is central to Protective Stadium, BJCC and the whole Uptown area. The room provided plenty of room, with bed, sitting chairs, large TV, and plenty of room to move around. Bathroom was also large, with a dual shower head and plenty of hot water. Good view of the city if you overlook the parking garage and highway. Pricing is a bit high, but not obnoxiously so. The only challenge was check-in, where I waited in line for over 20 minutes, as there was only one employee working (5 pm). I passed by the front desk again at around 10 pm, and she was still there working alone. Overall, and excellent stay. read more

First time staying at a Westin. I was here just for one night as a mini staycation and overall enjoyed my time here. There were just a few odd occurances, which I'll detail below. Checking in was a bit strange - the man at the front desk informed me that I had two rooms booked under my name when I had only made one reservation. Looking into it, it seems a room upgrade request was fufilled but my previous room was not properly cancelled. That was swiftly taken care of though, and in the end I was upgraded to a corner king room, which I was very happy about. There was a slight problem when I was asked for my ID. Turns out I had left it at home and I was freaked out because I didn't know what to do. The manager was called over and she brought a security officer with her, which struck me as a bit confrontational and set an aggressive tone. I was able to show her a photo of my passport I had as a substitute, but I did feel that the security officer was a bit much. The accomodation itself was fantastic - it was very spacious and having a corner room with windows facing two different directions was something new for me. I had a great view of the sports complex being construed across the street, Texas de Brazil, and Uptown. There was a minor problem with some of the lights in the room initially flickering and not working, but I managed to get them functional with a bit of tinkering. Unfortunately, most of the hotel's services are discontinued due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, understandably so. I suspect I'll have to stay here again in the future to get the full Westin experience, but as far as hotels go, I had a very good time staying here and enjoyed having Uptown within walking distance. read more

Obvious discrimination. They refuse to give me credits for the nights I stayed in even after I spend money at their property. They give who they want the credits for nights and /or points in a group when paid by an employer. I've asked multiple coworkers if they receive their nights and the only ones who do are Caucasian. They refuse to provide me credits for my nights I stayed in their bed because I'm in a group when others are getting the credits for their nights stayed in my same group. read more

Nice place. Had a few issues checking in because everyone showed up at the same time. That Manager handled the situation very well. They accommodated everyone as fast as possible. Stayed here for the Birmingham Bowl. The hotel is nice, but absolutely NO staff in the restaurant for breakfast before the game. And I mean ZERO staff. One lady running the restaurant. Made a reservation through Westin's website a few weeks ago. I went to check in yesterday and they gave our reservation away. Not just us, several groups, Including pilots and people who paid with credit card like myself. I called early in the day to verify my room since we wouldn't be checking in at exact check in time. She gave me an attitude and snapped on me despite my fake HR de-escalation. Rather than help us the front desk pushed me aside to check in other people behind me. I was with my child at night. Every time I asked for a status he was "getting his manager", I understand he may have been overwhelmed or whatever. But the laughing tone when we're all waiting for a room, families with babies etc is just wrong. The group of pilots told me they were waiting an hour and the couches were full of people waiting to get rooms. The level of incompetence at something so basic is one thing, but the idea that employees here are so rude is just icing on the cake. I read the reviews and thought maybe it wouldn't be my experience but it was. And it was for ALOT of people. This place is absolutely trash. It's the nicest place in all of Birmingham. I will not be back in this city. Consider a different option after reading these reviews. read more

For a Westin, this location is sub-par. They are not properly staffed for a weekend. Upon arrival (4 PM) my room was not ready. My room was finally ready at 5 PM after I said I was moving to the Hilton UB a few blocks away. I asked them to pay for my parking (maybe 1.25 hours) and the answer they gave me was - "We contract that out." And what does that have to do with the customer? I think this location has forgotten was what "take care of the customer, whatever it takes" really means. Why not say "Even though we contract the parking, we'll take care of it. We apologize for the customer experience you've had with us. In the future, we hope you'll give us another chance to earn your business"? Simple. I was not paying for the parking. I decided to stay and check-in. I asked the front desk person to ask the on-site manager to contact me (phone, stop by my room, or I could come downstairs) before she departs for the evening. After my initial review, more went wrong with my stay. As I was checking out, I let the young lady know I wanted to put my pantry charge ($6) on my personal Visa and leave the room charges/tax/parking on the AmEx. She separated the charges but charged my personal Visa for all of the charges. Really? WOW. I had to call corporate, leave a message for accounting and I spoke with Jaylan on 1/26 about the issue. He's supposed to leave a note for his boss to get with accounting so they can credit my personal Visa for the room charge/taxes/parking and charge my AmEx instead. The room was great, but everything thing else was not what I expected. The good thing, at this point - I received a call from Brian/Bryan and he's following up to make sure the room charge, taxes and valet parking charge are applied to my AmEx and credit for the same amount is sent to my personal Visa. He said to follow-up with him on Wednesday, January 29 to make sure both things were completed. The refund to my personal Visa was complete. And they charged my AmEx for the correct charges. If I decide to stay here again, and probably not, I hope the customer experience will be significantly better. read more

With The Westin, you usually know what you're going to get: the decadent green tea/aloe signature scent wafting through the lobby and into the bath products (though at some Westins you might get shower gel, this one only gives you the bar soap), a spacious room with a large window, a Heavenly bed, a decent workout facility and friendly/accommodating staff (late checkouts! Woo!) What the Westin Birmingham has that the others do typically do not: a pool. After my first stay, I vowed to bring a swimsuit and on my second, most recent, visit I did. Aaaand, I still didn't use the pool. Damn me! There's also a really nice deck area where you can lounge, perhaps with a decent beverage and a good book or a couple of friends? Oh, they also offer yoga out there. Pretty dang special. I didn't have time to do any of this, but it's nice to know it's there. I also appreciate the better than decent Octane coffee bar attached to the hotel (it's not affiliated, however, so you cannot charge coffee to your room). This coffee bar magically transforms into a cocktail bar after 5pm. I didn't indulge this time, but note for next time: I have a feeling I'd get a better glass of wine than I did at the hotel bar (they were changing their seasonal list, so perhaps a better selection is coming). All the stuff I mention in paragraph one met my expectations. Oddly they don't stock your mini bar here, but if you're hangry at any given time, there's a snack kiosk in the lobby. There's also the Todd English Pub, which doesn't appeal to me at all, but if pub food is your thing, have at it. I'd give this Westin 5 stars but the Pub also provides their room service, so you don't get the healthy options that other Westins give you (for example the Westin Memphis Beale St. now has a great smoothie menu). There seems to be literally not a single vegan option on there, not even a side of breakfast potatoes. Now for that pool...third time's the charm? Or it'll probably be too cold by my next visit. Outstanding staff that represent Birmingham and Southern Hospitality! You can see and feel the pride they feel for their city and their hotel. Shout out to Richard at the lobby bar for an outstanding Martini and excellent conversation. Also a shout out to Eugene and Mr. J who drove the shuttle and are the friendliest folks in Alabama; they went out of their way to drop us in the city off of the usual route. Great location for visiting nearby UAB. The hotel is in a convention center surrounded by numerous dining options including a Brazilian Churrascaria, an English Pub, burger place, Mexican restaurant and more. Westin quality amenities including modern design features, Heavenly beds and bedding plus that excellent Westin relaxing feel. Rooftop pool was awesome for our summer visit to cut through the humidity. Parking is adequate but there is a daily charge; you are better off using shuttle to hotel and using taxi to explore Birmingham. Overall great Westin property and staff. Cheers! read more

Heavy construction begins early in the morning...so don't expect to sleep-in. Perhaps a room on the opposite side of the building will be quieter. Got off to a bad start. Checked in at 4:30 pm and was told that we'd have to wait 30 to possibly 60 minutes for a room to be ready...AS CHECK IN IS AT 3 I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE. We politely pointed that out to them, a manager was called in, and we were given an upgraded room which was ready (should've been offered in the 1st place). Manager also threw in a complimentary breakfast for 2 but neglected to actually give us the vouchers- not to worry, we ultimately got them. Other than that, the room was adequate. There are 2 glaring problems though: 1. The cleaning supplies left in the bathroom, and, 2. Their encouragement to be environmentally friendly and reuse towels but has only 1 hook to hang the towels for later reuse. As others have mentioned, the location is great, the staff friendly, lots of street parking for our too tall vehicle which doesn't fit in parking garages (+). read more

This Westin is not a 4 Star experience and they should lower their rating and pricing immediately. The Heavenly bed and bath trademarks do not exist at this location. The only thing that remains is the signature white tea aroma in the lobby. After an 8 hour drive to Birmingham from St. Louis I really wanted a shower and to go to bed. I quickly discovered my bed was not completely made up missing the fitted sheet and pillowcases. I notified the front desk and was told housekeeping would address this quickly. 30 minutes later I decided to take a shower. I found no Bliss toiletries. I decided to pop over to Target hoping that housekeeping would make my bed while I was out. I return and could not park in the parking deck. After trying several times with the pass there was no response. I go inside to the front desk and was met by Nick the night manager. He was rude dismissive. He cut me off and told me there was nothing he could do to help me. He never checked if I was a guest or in trouble or anything. Another couple walked up and he ignored me to address their questions. I asked for a manager, he told me he was the manager for the weekend and I would have to wait until Monday. It's near midnight and I ended up parking on the street. I was exhausted and in tears. Housekeeping had not been to my room. I called Marriotts customer service line. Only then did I get any movement. The two stars are for the valet guy who walked with me down the street after Nick did nothing. And the desk staff that refunded my parking charges. Yes they charged me for parking. We checked in as a last minute decision due to having a terrible migraine hit mid drive home from vacation. I've stayed at this hotel a few years back and it was good so we thought it would be fine. No! The hotel smelled of old smoke, perfumes and just felt old and dirty. I brushed it off and we checked into our room (told they didn't have a two bed room at the moment that was clean so they gave us a king bed ‍, not the end of the world but annoying with two small children and being told we were ready to be checked in for our requested room). After arriving I went straight to lay down and my family went to get food. A little while later I went to the bathroom to shower and try to relieve my migraine some. Stray hairs in my sink, pile of stray hairs on the floor beside the shower and hairs in the shower. As well as mildew/mold in all corners of the shower. Needless to say NOT acceptable to normal standards but made me question even more when they preach extensive cleaning above their normal for Covid concerns- I have little faith in that here. I utilized the chat in the app to get in contact with someone about the issue in hopes to change rooms or have housekeeping come- no one responding in two hours, and the chat was working as I got the replies stating it was received and sorry for prolonged wait etc. I contacted via phone and it just rang and no one answered multiple attempts. I then contacted the corporate number and they failed to be able to get anyone to answer either. At this point at two hours of waiting I went to the front desk to try to find anyone that works in the hotel despite struggling to even function with my migraine. I found a lady and told her I wanted to just cancel the reservation or check out immediately and explained why, zero apology, zero care or remorse or attempt to offer a room Change or cleaning, just said "is everyone out because when I check you out the key won't work anymore". At that point I stopped bothering at all. I asked if she would be removing the charge as I spent my Two hours at the room trying to fix the issue with no resolve and leaving due to their failure to help, she said she can't do anything to help and I have to call corporate. Even though the receptionist unawarely bellowed out to an entire lobby full of people while on the phone, "I got to call you back. There's this Asian boy walking towards me, and he's cuuuttteeee," I had a pleasant stay at this Westin. And if you find yourself in Birmingham - like for a national corn hole tournament - this is the probably one of the best hotel options in the area. Things to know: ***** I. ROOM: I asked for a queen bed, and that's what they gave me. My room resided on the third floor facing the parking deck. The entire room was spacious, with plush carpeting, blackout curtains, excellent AC, and a nice desk. II. BED: The queen-sized bed fell on the firmer side (which I liked) and made for a great night of sleep. The white sheets were pristine and soft, too. No qualms here. III. BATHROOM: It was gigantic, covered with beautiful long white tiles and intimate lights. I really like the large mirror above the sink that glowed. In addition, the dramatic shower head shot decent pressure. Unfortunately, the shower "door" was a half-pane of glass and nothing else. Water just leaks all over the ground. IV. SERVICE: Aside from very flattering comments from the receptionist, everyone I encountered was really nice and accommodated every need I had (although, I didn't have many). V. OTHER TIDBITS: - I don't recall them serving any complimentary breakfast and a couple of the outlets did not work in my room. - The hotel may be close to railroad tracks, because at night I felt vibrations on the ground. Hmm, or maybe it was from cars driving around in the parking garage (which would make more sense). Or maybe it's because I got loaded on bushwhacker one of the nights. Hmm. - The Westin has two businesses connected to it. One of them is Octane Coffee (which is fantastic). - If you stumble in late at night, the person vacuuming will totally stink eye the hell out of you for uncontrollably tumbling into the elevator. Priceline really hooked me up hotel wise when I decided to sign up last minute for the Mercedes Benz Half Marathon! SO happy. And.. I got a solid rate for it. :D (much cheaper than usual) They have valet and self parking. I personally don't like random people driving my car, so I parked my car myself. They do have a parking deck. But uh... it is very weirdly built. The turns onto every level are sharp. If you have a big car, I would drive very slowly and carefully. How to get into the Westin Lobby to check in - Park on Level 3 and you'll be on the level right above the Lobby area. Once you get into the hotel, there are elevators inside the hotel. Elevators will take you to the Lobby level. Westin is a Host Hotel for the Mercedes Benz race. They had a ton of people stay here so... late check out was granted. I think I had till 12:30 to leave, which was more than enough time! The room & bathroom were pretty big! I was pleased... even though we only stayed 1 night. The beds were very comfy. I like firm beds so I slept like a baby. Our window faced another building, so it was very quiet. The only weird thing - when I turned on the bath faucet, dirt like water was showing. We just ran the water for like 10-15 mins and it was fine. I assumed the cleaners used a different cleaning item and wasn't washed properly. Small note: no iHomes in the room. read more

We all like shiny, clean and new stuff...except perhaps a raccoon that's effortlessly digging through last nights pile of garbage purely out of enjoyment. The Westin is new, well furnished and slightly disappointing in terms of upgrade. Being a platinum member, I was a bit surprised they couldn't get me an upgrade on a night when the hotel was nearly empty and I know for a fact that they had suites available both on the app and when I spoke to the agent on the phone. On top of it, I gave a very generous tip to the concierge, yet it resulted in nothing and no upgrade. Treat your platinum guests better please. I know it might be a bit selfish to complain about not getting an upgrade, but I've gone out of my way to stay at Starwood Properties this year and earn the top status with the chain, so please deliver on the promise of a space available room upgrade when I know that upgraded rooms are available. The room was tastefully decorated, but the bath robes were dirty. Had to request new ones and on the upside, they were brought very quickly. Breakfast credit is awesome and they let you pick anything on the menu if you have status, so that did compensate for the above. I'll conclude on the note that this is a good Westin property and I would probably stay here again. It's new, generally clean and although I do wish they treated Platinum guests a bit better, it was overall still a good experience. read more

Maybe this place was nice at time, but I will not waste my money in the future. The lady who checked us in was hostile and rude for no reason. The valet was closed. No water in the room. No help with luggage. Parking in their deck is a huge pain. They are using Covid as an excuse to understaff and underserve the hotel. I have truly gotten better service and friendlier staff at a holiday inn express. Update: My check out experience was much better. The staff was much more friendly. The night clerk was unprofessional and scary. I seriously worried my car was going to be jacked the next morning.... do not check in late at night. read more
