We stayed here for two weeks. What a nice hotel. Front desk personnel are nice. Restaurant workers are nice. Service personnel are nice. We enjoyed the pool. We enjoyed the Empyrean lounge. We enjoyed every restaurant. Parking was convenient and only $18.00 a day. All the restaurants had great food and good Happy Hour specials. The river view we had was nice. The location is convenient as well. There are also some great restaurants and bars nearby. We attended a concert at NORVA and that was about a three minute walk. I would love to stay a couple more weeks but I couldn't get the govt per diem rate anymore. Some additional pros: Clean hotel, not stingy with waters, $15.00 daily credit (30 for a couple), lite breakfast in lounge, amenities for Empyrean rooms, happy hour specials in lounge, lite dinner in lounge, free pool table at Grain, awesome bartenders who give good recommendations. The Main was a Christmas fairyland when we walked in for Thanksgiving dinner at one of their restaurants. Even though I normally think Christmas decorations & music belong after Thanksgiving, the beauty of The Main made me feel quite differently. The Main is a Hilton property located as named, on Main Street in downtown Norfolk, it's in easy walking distance to the Norfolk Harbor, Waterside, Nauticus, Half Moone Cruise Terminal, Battleship USS Wisconsin & the Spirit of Norfolk. In addition to the wonderful restaurants in the hotel, you'll find restaurant & theater row on Granby Street. The Norfolk Tide light rail line will take you to much more. The most convenient parking is Valet, which they do extremely well. When you exit the vehicle your attendant points out a different path to pick up your car. A checkout desk offers the ability to do add your tip to the charge. This eliminates a last minute scrambling for cash. The experience couldn't have been smoother. I'm a Hilton person. This property is Hilton at its finest. read more

Surprisingly, a much better experience than last year at one of Norfolk's premier roof tops. We returned because of the convenience of parking Downtown Norfolk. This location is surrounded by parking meters and paid parking garages and yes that wonderful view of Hampton Roads. We met outside around the fire pit around 5pm, we laughed, cracked jokes, and watched the sunset. Then we moved inside for dinner. We were served very quickly. This place boast of imported beer from all over the world. Great drink menu, I prefer the tangy red sangria. I ordered the fresh Aha tuna poke bowl for dinner, served raw with Sriracha Aioli, seasoned avocado, crispy cucumbers, kimchi, crunchy wonton, Seaweed Salad, Edamame, sweet firm sushi rice, and Black Sesame Seeds, which was absolutely as good as it sounds. Seriously, I should have ordered one to take with me. Lots of singing that night. Karaoke is available (wink). read more

This hotel is a pit. Stay anywhere else. Questionable plumbing in the room, mattresses crushed down and lumpy, rude bartenders, and paper thin walls. Still looks as if some actual hotel chain had a decent property with amenities, staff, and facilities but abandoned the place overnight one winter's night to the elements. *** One bright spot oddly enough is the breakfast downstairs in the bar area every morning. Location is great, it's by everything you could ask for. My four complaints about the hotel are 1. It takes the elevator forever and a day to stop on the second floor where you check in. I'm not joking when I say it took 5 minutes waiting for it. 2. The rooms are very basic and blah. Nothing really special about them and they are dated. 3. The noise level is pretty high if you are by the road. I was on the 19th floor and could hear cars going by ALL night long, it directly affected my ability to get a good nights sleep. 4. The TV channels are severely lacking, I think there was maybe 20 channels to choose from and it was hard to find anything to watch (I like to watch tv and relax before I go to bed). Overall it's a great location and the hotel is nice when you arrive in the lobby, but inside your room it leaves a lot to improve. read more

Great Downtown Norfolk location near outdoor sights and local restaurants. Parking garage in in the building so park on level 3 to walk into the lobby. The front desk lobby is very pretty with some "cool" artwork. The elevators to the room are quite slow and rarely not crowded. The executive lounge is very nice. Great food and drinks with a complimentary breakfast. The rooms are pretty quiet but need some TLC. Our furniture was pretty banged up and the toilet was very slow to fill after flushing. I still can't figure out why they would put a TV in the bathroom mirror that only faced the door. Wr also had a mini fridge in the closed that was too big and prevented the closet doors from opening more that 5 inches. (Room 2115) The main room TV worked well and the bed was very comfortable. Our room stayed cold all night. The room had very large floor to ceiling windows with some great views of the marinated and harbor. I highly recommend the restaurant, Saltine, attached to the hotel for a great seafood happy hour. Overall, I really liked this hotel and would stay here again. read more

I enjoyed everything about my stay at Hilton Norfolk The Main. The check in process was both friendly and pleasant. We arrived at lunchtime and were looking to drop off our bags with the front desk but to our surprise the rooms were ready and the keys were provided. This was several hours early so I was impressed! I find that most hotels will enforce the check in time. I had a lovely waterfront room that was comfortable and plenty spacious. Housekeeping was excellent and even left me with extra water and towels as requested. The best part about the hotel is probably the availability of onsite restaurants. There were several and we enjoyed a couple of them. Saltine has an excellent happy hour that we took advantage of. Grain has a lovely rooftop bar that would be great during nice weather. Due to the cold, we sat inside but still had great water views. Breakfast was not included but there was a cafe type place attached to the hotel that I didn't get to. Would have been nice had a breakfast buffet been included but minor detail. The parking was also not included but that seems par for the course in a downtown location. All in all, a great experience! The location is unbeaten with plenty of local eateries and shops within close walking distance. This will be my regular spot during business travel to the area. read more

I booked a room here because it was recommended by a friend and although the staff was very friendly and the common areas of the hotel were great, the room itself was a bit lacking. The moment my husband and I stepped it, we noticed it felt....too moist? Not humid exactly, but it was cold and it felt like there was a layer of moisture on the bed and floor. I had to change my socks out before I left the room for the day too. It was the first time I experienced a room that felt like that. I mean, it was clean and looked nice, it just felt...off because of the moisture level. We stayed in room 1806. For that, I had to knock off 2 stars because it was not cheap. However, I loved the lobby, the cafe, and just the overall atmosphere of the hotel. I've never actually stayed in one as large as this one with escalators like that. Parking is about $20/day. You need to tell the front desk that you will be parking in the garage and they will print out your own in and out QR code on a piece of paper. Then you can just throw away the other parking pass you got at the garage entrance. I recommend parking on the 2nd floor because it's closer to the lobby. read more

Hubby and I stayed here this past weekend again for a marriage conference. We were here setting up at 10 am on a Friday and stayed until Sunday at 4 pm. When we arrived early Friday, the young man at the counter was super nice. Our desired room was not ready, so he said he would make sure I received a text when it was, which was about 1 pm. I checked us in around this time, and he also gave us a $10 coupon for Varia, which was perfect since we had a reservation here Saturday evening. Our room was very clean and stocked. The view was gorgeous. I can't say enough how impressed I am with The Main's consistent service, attitude, and value they strive for. This was our first time staying the weekend and we had such a wonderful time. We even had dinner at Varia and that experience was wonderful as well! Very much a fan!! read more

My experience at the Hilton Norfolk The Main started off amazing. Oysters at Saltine. Ease of mobile check in. Sweet lil view of the water. Drinks at The Grain roof top bar. Unfortunately, everything went down hill when we were scared awake by loud banging on the door, and security demanding that we open the door and vacate the room. We were mistaken for what they believed was fraud, although my name and account were connected to the reservation. After my Wife opened the door and verified our identity, they gave a brief apology for their mistake, due to the mobile check in and offered us points. WOW. This is actually a really nice Hilton location. From the moment you enter the lobby you quickly get the feeling of an upscale location with a lot of options to offer. There are three different dining establishes in the building, and they all seem to be very well managed. We did have a chance to eat at the Saltine which is the main seafood restaurant, and service and food was outstanding. One of the highlights for me. Is the artwork spread throughout the building. Not sure who is curating the art, but it definitely has a extremely diverse and eclectic taste that was very impressive. The pictures I sm sharing only represent a fraction of the total artwork in the building. Our room was really nice with a beautiful view overlooking the city. Staff was really helpful as I checked in late and was promptly checked into my room. And even when we had some problems, connecting the Wi-Fi there wasn't any issues getting that corrected. I will definitely be staying here on a regular basis as I come back-and-forth to the Norfolk area. read more

Fantastic conference facilities and service! I'm an exhibitor, among 20 other tables, and the coffee service in the exhibitor room was fantastic, with all the accoutrements. Spotless restrooms. Lunch buffet is among the best I've seen. Salmon and pork tenderloin were also options, along with this tender chicken breast. Super tasty mixed roasted veg, and 2 salad options as well. Desserts were a Panna Cotta and a delicious apple/pear Tart. Is this really banquet food?!? :-) Highly recommend booking an event here! read more

A very comfortable hotel in an ideal location in downtown Norfolk. Our room featured two Queen beds and was very spacious. On the 16th floor one had a view over the city. The lobby and front desk are on the second floor. Arriving by car one had the option of valet parking or self-parking in the garage. Note that you park on Level 3 of the garage to access the lobby. We had dinner at Saltine and breakfast at Varia, all within the hotel. The two egg breakfast was excellent! A coffee bar is located on the first floor. We spent a week here in a suite. Spending $4000. We stayed here a few years ago and the hotel has definitely gone downhill. Rooms are rundown now. Dirty furniture. Carpet pulled up. Construction going on during our stay and it was so loud. They took our robes the 3rd day and didn't replace them. Staff is nice though. Parking is a little tricky. read more

Stayed here 5 times in two years. It is a decent hotel but has some funky service issues. The valet department is chronically under staffed. Seldom can you find a valet. Room Service: On Friday night at 9:10 PM we called for room service only to be told that room service went home for the night...What?!! This supposed to be a 4 star hotel. 4 Star Hotels don't stop room service at 9 PM! Good news is that Guest Services put me in touch with a REALLY nice person from the Saltine restaurant who went out of her way to bring us decaf coffee and a pitcher of ice water. I don't know who she is but her service and attitude were great. Thank You! Hotel Management is just odd here. The Varia restaurant is the main hotel restaurant. The tables and chairs were designed by some over educated neophyte who values style over function. The chairs are low rise couches with either extra low tables OR tall tables. Either way a grown man can't sit down to eat or drink without being uncomfortable. Terrible decor. Varia food is good and staff have been great. Just a strange place. read more

Most of the staff I encountered deserve 5 stars. The room was clean. Everything else was far below minimum which is why I gave a 2 star rating. There is a lounge on the property that plays music outdoors until 2 am. The lounge is on the 5th floor; I was on the 11th floor and my family tossed and turned until falling asleep after 1am. So much for trying to get a peaceful night's rest. I called the front desk multiple times; I had to call back because they never followed up with me to let me know the solution. Apparently Hilton has no control over the lounge on their property. The lounge did not turn down the music or move the music indoors. The sad thing is this is the side of the hotel with the view. So guests will pay a premium for inconvenience and a restless night. Unless you are ok going to bed after 2 am. SKIP THIS HOTEL. I was offered 15k Hilton points and an extra 90 minutes to stay in the room for the inconvenience. Apparently this same hotel costs 60k points each night. read more

Stayed here for the Junior League conference and it was great. When checking in the staff was courteous and helpful. When walking into the room we had a gorgeous view of the water and ships. Beds were a little hard for my taste which affected my back and the pillows were small. Since when did hotels start placing smaller pillows on the bed for sleeping. Shower head was newer and had ok water pressure. Only 2 of the 3 elevators worked which made it lengthy to get to our rooms. Plenty of restaurant options. On floors with weren't rooms, plenty of bathroom stalls for women. It's walking distance to many attractions in Norfolk. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE--FILTHY CONDITIONS & RUDE MANAGEMENT This hotel is absolutely disgusting. Filthy, poorly maintained, and hazardous. Our room had: * Oil leaking from the damaged door * Peeling headboards * A mattress with no support--bed springs completely worn out * Trash left behind, dirty washcloths in the bed, and floors that hadn't been vacuumed The valet left our car out front and took the keys on a lunch break, making us late for a family viewing. To make things worse, the manager is rude and dismissive, refusing to take any responsibility for the horrible conditions. Honestly, he should be managing a fast-food restaurant, not a hotel. They care more about making the lobby look nice than maintaining clean, safe rooms for guests. Avoid this place at all costs. You've been warned. read more

The Hilton is in a great location, however, it's geared toward convention/conference patrons and not tourists. Our room couldn't be serviced because we got a late start, which I think was unjustified considering the high price. The room decor is sterile, but the public spaces do have some interesting art. There's plenty of security. Room service menu is quite odd, and while it's certainly possible to walk to get takeout or order thru a food delivery app, I don't think I've ever stayed in a high end hotel with such weird choices and no standard fare. We did eat at two of the in-house restaurants during our stay. While food was good, atmosphere was ruined by lack of air conditioning control. It was explained to us that the a/c controls are actually outside the hotel. Bottom line, service is lacking and I felt discouraged by the inattention. Come on Hilton, you can do better. read more

Every time I stay here I am amazed at how friendly the staff is .. Being a Diamond member I generally stay at about 40/50 locations a year and this is one of the best Hilton properties!! One big treat is they actually opened their Executive Lounge back up after Covid . Whereas so many Hilton properties STILL HAVE YET TO RE OPEN THEIR Exc Lounged back up(which is so annoying) .. Amber in particular in the executive lounge deserves big Kudos !! Not only did we walk in 10 minutes before close last night but there was no one left in the lounge. That did not matter to Amber she greeted us w/ big smile and took care of all our needs w/ food and cocktails ... Very sweet of her & she did not rush us AT ALL !! Checked up on us multiple times and made it a great experience for us .. My next shout out has to go to HR department for Hilton Main for hiring a great and friendly staff from restaurants to front desk ... Thank you all for always making my stay here a good memory . Beautiful hotel!! The welcome was pleasant and atmosphere beautiful!! Art sculptures in the lobby were stunning. The reception area and employees were very friendly and prompt. Room was very clean and beautiful view of the Elizabeth River and the Navy Ships, waterfront area of Norfolk. The fitness center and pool were well maintained and clean, of course beautiful too. This seems to be the happening spot for locals in downtown. Great 5th-floor restaurant with an outdoor patio overlooking the river. The room views are fantastic, especially those facing the river. Great size TV, however there is no channel guide. You can download the StayConnect app for free but have to pay $.99 to get a guide. Friendly and helpful staff. King bed is comfy with 4 pillows. Ice machine is behind a secure door, and that reduces the sound for rooms nearby. Really nice size fitness center with good machines and a somewhat decent view. Since it's COVID times the rooms aren't being cleaned. read more

Beautiful hotel! They offer valet parking but I found parking fairly easy in the connected parking garage. P3 offers direct access to the registration/hotel lobby. (Keep your parking ticket on you.) Check-in was easy. My room was beautiful and clean. I slept SO GOOD. The hotel overlooks the water and is accessible to so much! I was going to drive to the mall until I saw it was within walking distance. There are restaurants + bars in the hotel and PLENTY within walking distance too. The staff are awesome + friendly. Hilton Norfolk The Main I've stayed at many high end hotels over the years, but this was hands down the worst experience I've ever had- and shockingly, it was at a Hilton. From the moment we arrived, the staff seemed disinterested and unhelpful. The situation escalated when I visited "Town Center Coffee" at 9:05 am on Saturday, May 31st. The barista got my coffee order completely wrong. When I politely asked for it to be corrected, she flat out refused. Things took a bizarre and unacceptable turn when the medium fresh brew breakfast blend with added sweetened vanilla almond (3x vanilla almond 2x sugar) I ordered was given to me as a plain black coffee. The barista refused to replace the incorrect coffee order saying that's what I ordered. When I asked for the Manager, the barista said she didn't have one. Because I was in a hurry (my daughter was waiting at the curb outside to pick me up with her newborn baby) I decided the only choice I had was to throw away the coffee. At this point, the barista exploded- yelling, screaming, using profanity, and even calling for security. Her behavior was completely unprofessional, aggressive, and disturbing. At this point everyone including the 2nd barista was staring uncomfortably. No one from management stepped in to de-escalate or address the situation properly. I proceeded to walk out of the hotel only to be stopped by a man dressed in a Valet jacket who told me to "wait here since there are two sides to every story." It was humiliating and surreal to be treated this way, especially at a Hilton property where you expect a high standard of service. This experience has completely destroyed my trust in the Hilton brand. We will never return- to the Norfolk location and likely not to any Hilton. Absolutely unacceptable after spending over $550 for a 1 night stay, dinner and coffee that was thrown away. I sincerely hope the Management team deals with this employee (who was not wearing a name tag) before she ruins another customers experience. read more

I have stayed here several times in the past few years, and all have been great experiences, EXCEPT this most recent experience. The quality of service has gone extremely downhill and I will not stay at this property again. *Service: Slow, absent, employees don't seem to want to be there.* Upon check-in, I was checking in with a training staff member. All of that is fine as I recognize everyone has to train at a new job. However, it took an inordinate amount of time for him to check me in. For breakfast, there was *no one* at the Varia for a good 15 minutes. Everyone in line, including me, just sat down. For a business hotel, to keep people waiting for what should be a quick breakfast seems sub-par. *Exec lounge perks: serious issues* The breakfast at Empyrean has gone way downhill. I've stayed here before and it was much better in previous years. Don't like it? You won't get a complimentary breakfast at Varia! If you take any hot food item, it's automatically a "full breakfast buffet" charge. I have never ever had that happen at any other Hilton except for this one. Moreover, I was traveling with my Mom who bit into a cashew at the Empyrean lounge and saw a LIVE moving insect that had burrowed into it. We showed the attendant who promptly threw away the canister, but RIP to anyone else who was eating it before we made the discovery. Makes me feel like the food was expired. Just shows poor attention to detail. I called the front desk to get a resolution on some of these issues and the person who picked up had a hot mic moment and literally said "kill me." Not exactly the attitude of a person I want to talk to when I'm already displeased with service. I asked to have a receipt sent and the employee mockingly said "OK I'll send it AGAIN." Seriously? I finally called Hilton's customer service (not part of the hotel) and managed to get a resolution. I refuse to stay here again and I would not recommend it to anyone. read more
