Showed up after reserving rooms for 10 people. Didn't have rooms half our group when their manager already approved them through emails. Instead of making it right, they told us to come back two days later. The hotel manager told us she would check her email tomorrow and verify if we were telling the truth or not. Breakfast: not much of a selection. the only hot items are those that you prepare yourself. mostly pre-packaged items like yogurt, avocado slices, and hard boiled eggs. the rest is bread or waffles that you put in the toaster. Room: had bed bugs. did not notice it until a day later. not worth calling the hotel over it. just won't be staying there again. customer service: front desk lady was short with me. couldn't blame her since it was 11:30 pm at night and she was the only one there. location: the only positive thing i can say is that it's across from the naval base. read more

It's decent, I've been here 3 days and it's already making me want to go home sooner. Staff isn't very reliable with information especially regarding the fact I had asked about the washer and dryer. Guy upfront says cash only, there is a change dispenser upstairs. I go to the bank and back come to find out there is no change dispenser and wasn't informed we could use Apple Pay lol. Nobody has come to tidy my room or provide any customer service. Breakfast is okay, bagels are like biting into drywall but we ball I guess. Stayed here for 10 weeks and had a comfortable visit. Front desk staff is amazing - helped me with everything I needed. Breakfast was great and the mini exchange in the lodge was nice to have. The gym is small and only has cardio equipment but there are two gyms at the base across the street. Room was clean, internet was reliable and the staff assisted me with everything I needed. I would stay here again if I had work to do on the bases nearby. read more

I accompanied my daughter and family to her husband 's graduation ceremony this weekend. He retired from the service 4years ago and took advantage of the GI bill to further his education. Although they have moved from Virginia Beach to Pennsylvania, he finished his course work online. His proud family wanted him to participate in the graduation ceremony so they drove here for a long weekend. They stopped in Richmond (my hometown) to pick me up to accompany them. My daughter had originally made reservations on the base in Virginia Beach but was notified that they had to be changed to the Naval Base a few miles away . The lodge had already made the switch so we found the details all worked out when we arrived. The facility was modern, nice and clean. Stayed at this lodge quite a bit in 2011 and throughout 2012. Rooms were always clean and staff was always helpful. Liked having a small NEX in the building to grab last minute things. We spent a lot of time at the playground out back and it was nice being minutes from base. I prefer the lodge at the little creek base, especially when traveling with kids as it is more family friendly with plenty of playgrounds, water park and places to walk away from busy roads but I liked staying here when the kid wasn't in tow. The breakfast is pretty good as far as selection goes. A few types of cereals, juice, bottled water, hard boiled eggs, danishes, muffins, and other things I can't remember off hand. This was a great "first home" when we PCS'ed to Virginia in 2012. They let us have our dog with us which was a must. We were on the pet floor, but we didn't hear any barking except when we would walk down the hall. This location was clean and the staff was very helpful. The price was great too! read more

I've stayed at this location twice. The first time, everything was fine from check in/out. Rooms were in good shape and no complaints. our second stay was a different experience. The moment we opened the door to our room, we were hit with an awful smell. The warm temperature and a smell of something i could not identify made me feel nauseous. We checked in rather late, at about 2:30am and the lodge was fully booked, so even if we wanted to switch rooms or change hotels, we couldn't or it would be a waste of energy and time (to look for another hotel). We opened the window and left the hotel door open while we settled in, but unfortunately, the smell wouldn't go away. I went up to the front desk to let them know, but unfortunately there was nothing they could do. I asked if they had a fan so i could let the air circulate, but nothing either. My friend speculated that since they allow pets at this location, that could be the cause and the room was not cleaned properly. If I could, I would go somewhere else. Technically, there is wifi here but functionally, there is no internet. I have to do work at the Starbucks down the road. I don't watch much television but even the cable picture is bad. Also, where is PBS? There is no PBS. There is no central heating/cooling. There is an A/C near the window but it either stays on or off; there isn't a temperature sensor on it to shut off when the room gets too cold. The staff is very nice and professional. My biggest qualm is lack of internet connectivity. Its 2018 and the Navy Lodge internet is stuck in 1997. read more

Navy Lodge will always be a step up from NGIS, but this location in particular has been nothing but a slew of problems. I've been TAD here for a month and every week there's been an occurrence of power-outages, loss of hot water, or spotty WiFi. As I write this on my phone, we're experiencing another "emergency" power outage that's scheduled for 17 hours--on the day I'm supposed to work out of my room. On top of this, the washers and dryers here absolutely suck. When they aren't broken, it takes three drying cycles (and only quarters) to dry my clothes (small load, too) because the washer over-saturates everything. I've been taking my laundry to a cleaner up the street as a result. In this case, you're better off at the NGIS on base. read more

Overall not bad, not great. The room was clean and the cleaning staff was amazing. My room was made everyday, restocked, and my personal items were left untouched. The coffee maker inside the room was easy to use and Seattle Best coffee was very good. Where I had issue was the front desk staff and the wifi. When checking in, the staff was very short, dismissive, and passive aggressive. I did not catch the name of the front desk staff but it was a younger female and an older female... There was one older woman that worked the night shift and was very polite. The wifi connection for the building did not reach my room and I had to sit in the lobby to complete homework. I called the IT line and they asked for information that I could not provide. Seemed to excessive to restore wifi connection. Other than what was previously mentioned, there is a NEX (Naval Exchange) inside the building that is very convenient and has all the toiletries you could need for a trip. This is also a pet friendly place in which I did not know this until we arrived here. I thought, allergies, hair, dogs barking etc. To our surprise, no hair, nor barking. Guest were very quiet for a Friday evening. There is a small Nex that is here if you need something quick. You have a choice of paying for WIFI or using their free WIFI. Pros: Comfortable beds, clean linens, good room temperature control, infinite flow of coffee at all hours in the lobby. Cons: Housekeeping service is a bit lacking in the daily cleaning. The bed making is great, but I expected the entire toilet and bathtub to be scoured, as well as the room vacuumed daily. Apparently, this is only done when the room has changed occupancy. When a stay for a week (even a day), the place needs to be cleaned! The continental breakfast was lacking. A few months ago I was at the NL in Pensacola and their breakfast was Cadillac compared to this Datsun. Not one hot breakfast item! Not one piece of fresh fruit! How about purchasing a big electric pot to house the oatmeal and offer sides of raisins, walnuts and brown sugar? A waffle maker? Please find out what the Pensacola NL has for breakfast and subscribe to their menu. The shower head had seriously low water pressure thus making the water dribble down instead of across the bathtub as it should. Perhaps housekeeping could identify this and report it. The coffee pot was disgusting. It needed a deep cleaning and maybe an occasional vinegar and water bath for the white calcium residue on the inside, and a subsequent cleaning after each guest. The coffee pot in my room was dusty and you could tell it had not been used recently. I ended up not using it because my gag reflux couldn't get past it. Additionally, I went to three different floors for the laundry facility and finally decided to go to an outside laundromat. Every laundry room I visited had filthy equipment and overall was unkept. The compartment to put the detergent in EVERY washer was slimy and disgusting. To the check-in desk personnel: please have a higher standard with your uniforms! The blue shirts/blouses that are wrinkled look really bad and appear that you and your employer (and you) have a low standard. This was my first impression, and you know the old saying, "Your first impression is your last impression"? Had all these cons been addressed then of course this would be a five star review. Something to shoot for! No doubt I'll be back again someday and have faith in a future five star rating. read more

We stayed here February 2016 in the two room suite with the two queen beds for five days. It was a great stay! The service was fantastic, free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, an area to exercise and a laundry area that only cost a 1.00 to do your clothes. If we needed something, like an extra towel, we called the front desk and someone showed up within 5 minutes. This lodge is not on base, but it is a short drive to the base and NEX. However, there is a little mini NEX inside the hotel for set hours which is helpful. They are pet friendly for a small fee. Can't beat it! read more

So I read through some of the previous reviews....did these folks pay more than the $78 a night that I did for a large room with 2 queen beds and a mini-kitchen? This place is nicer than most middle-tier hotels, and at that price, it's truly a great value. Not a complaint, but some precautions: this Navy Lodge isn't on base, so anybody can access the area, and for whatever reason when I got back from dinner at 10 PM, there was a sketchy dude walking around the parking lot (wouldn't be surprised if he was looking for unlocked vehicles). Also, upon check-in, absolutely nothing was explained...essentially, here's your key and room number, not even it's on the 4th floor, etc. And to save yourself some time, the Navy makes things more complicated than it has to be. Room 1411 means 1st wing, 4th floor, 11th room. Why can't 4th floor rooms start with 4000? read more

I really enjoyed my stay here. The breakfast was amazing, the lobby is really nice and fully updated as are the rooms. But to get to those rooms you have to walk through long eerie hallways and try to tune out the sound of dead twin girls and Danny riding his tricycle muttering REDRUM. Also, the a/c units are from the Cretaceous period. The beds are super comfy and there are both soft and firm pillows available. They have a not-so-mini mart available with tons of snack options. The kitchenettes in the rooms are fully stocked with anything you'll need to make a nice meal unless you're Julia Child and require advanced utensils. The bathrooms are very nice and updated. Pets are allowed and I was so happy to see smiling dogs everywhere. The rooms have a lovely view of the parking lot so you can watch the sunset over your Jeep. And there are washers/dryers available! And a functional coin machine!! The Tide ate my coins though so go for the Cheer. read more

This review is for cleanliness. The room seemed very clean despite a few dog kibble a underneath the bed. I was pretty disappointed we were given a pet friendly room when we had no pets. No matter what pet dander/hair etc isn't completely cleaned to 100%, hence finding dog food kibble. Other than that, great price. Continental breakfast did not have fresh fruit, it was like canned fruit. Baby lodge could step it up big time! It doesn't take a lot to make breakfast nicer. And our veterans and families deserve that, I'm sure $10 extra on the room charge wouldn't bother most for a nicer breakfast. read more

I am a fan of Navy Lodges everywhere, and this one is up there with the best. The rooms are clean, the staff is super nice, the location is great in conjunction to base, NEX, downtown Norfolk, AND they are pet friendly, which is a plus in my book! The rooms are spacious, comfy, and quiet. The linens leave something to be desired, though, with itchy sheets and polyester comforter which I find less than comforting. But as a bonus, they offer continental breakfast every morning. For the price, this place really can't be beat! read more
