Front desk lady was amazing. The hotel and whoever is running it. Is not. Marriott should remove there name from this place. It's dirty and not well maintained. I don't know what's worse. The burn pits in Iraq or staying the one night in this dump. On top of this Marriott customer service wouldn't move my reservation to another hotel. So instead of moving to another Marriott property I'm now going to stay in a IHG property. Marriott is going down hill. It's a shame

The bed skirt was disgusting. Looked like poop or mud.

The pictures you see on line, looks nothing like the hotel room. I was leaving to go on a cruise the next day. The hotel was sold out. I could not leave, all hotel was sold out. They also need customer service training for the night shift. Very unprofessional! There is no way the is a Marriott property. I have stayed at numbers of Marriott properties. This is by far the WORST!! The manager sent me a email and dismissed it!

As a Marriott Platinum Preferred Elite (the top of the top tier), I think that I've finally found a property that recognizes that status. From the warm greeting when I arrived, the gent who checked me in said that they were comping my parking (sweet!) and then he wrote out four breakfast vouchers (sweet!) and then putting me in a room on the top floor (super sweet!). The room was laid out the same as other Courtyard properties have been - a bed, work desk, small fridge, coffee service and flat panel television. No, there's no microwave. That's not how Courtyard generally rolls. Breakfast in the lobby is not free. That's also the Courtyard way. Free wifi worked well. Review #4700. I love round numbers!

A rather disappointing experience all around. Had business in the city and had this hotel recommend by a co-worker. I requested an early check-in since I'm a Marriott Rewards member. At 11am, I arrived, checked in and got my key with the intent of dropping my bags off in the room and then heading to a meeting. I was quite surprised to find housekeeping cleaning my room when I arrived. I told the lady I would drop my bags in the closet and she could continue. After the business day, I went to dinner with colleagues and returned around 8p. When I checked the closet for my bags, you can imagine my surprise to discover they were gone. I called the front desk and was told they would get their bell captain right on it. About 3 minutes later he showed up with my bags and no explanation why they were in a different room.

Stayed at the Courtyard Hotel while my wife attended a meeting. It is located in downtown Norfolk, easy walking distance from the Waterside District and Granby Street. This Marriott property is well maintained. Our check-in was quick and without problems as was check-out. Our room was clean and nicely appointed. Our bed was comfortable and had ample pillows. The table lamps had 120v outlets which were convenient for charging electronic devices. The bathroom was clean and supplied with ample soft towels. Everything worked as I would expect - drapes closed without problems, sink stopper held water in the sink, the sink drained rapidly, the lights all worked, etc. The staff we encountered were all very friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and would expect that anyone else who stays at this hotel would also. One thing to note: There is no free guest parking provided by the hotel. The only parking available is valet parking at $19/day.

This property is nothing like the pictures on line. I was hoping for a nice fancy weekend out of town and instead received bedbugs, ants on the bed and inconvenience. I had to keep all of my belongings in the car in fear of transporting bugs back home with me. I booked a conjoining room and was moved to a different floor which defeated the point of booking that room. The room setup/decor was not impressive and would never return to stay here.

Left over and used wash cloth from the previous guest.

I understand COVID has changed alot of things in the service industry, but my issues are basic cleanliness. We checked into and the staff was great! I parked the car and walking to the room I instantly noticed the large full trash can in the hallway in front of our door. Once in the room I went to plug in my phone charger and noticed the mold surrounding the outlet. Then I jumped in the shower and saw the left over rag hanging from the shower bar. Nothing like a strangers used wash cloth hanging in the bathroom. All in all the decor says Marriott, but the cleaniness screams Motel 6... It will take me some really solid deals and convincing to stay here again

    Wtf is this??

I'm being nice with this review. They deserve a 2 star at most. We checked in on a Saturday evening. The cost wasn't that bad per night. It is located right across from Macarthur mall in downtown Norfolk. The Waterside is close by as well as other restaurants. The parking was $13 nightly & there was no valet parking. We were on the 6th floor but had to park on the 3rd floor. There was a door from the 3rd floor garage that didn't work going into the hotel, but it worked coming out. So, we had to take the stairs to the first floor just to take the elevator inside back up to the 6th floor. Senseless!!! I was so exhausted that night & just wanted to go to bed. The room was somewhat outdated and dirty. Hair was everywhere in the bathroom & it had that mildew odor. I woke up the next day to a stain or something caked onto the white comforter. I don't want to even imagine what that was. The way I pulled the comforter back, it's clear how I missed that. I was so disgusted just by the looks of it. On top of that, I left something in the room & just called the hotel (1 day after checkout) to ask if they had it in their lost/found. I had to call 5x just for them to answer. Finally, Barbara answered & immediately placed me on a silent hold. I held on 20 long minutes in silence to tell her what was left in the room. She took my info & said she will have the executive housekeeper check into it. I have no faith in getting a call back. Once they found it yesterday, they should've called then.

Stayed 1 night. Good customer service, clean hotel. Room was decent. Stayed on the 7th floor and had an okay view. Water was nice & hot. Only problem I had was the bathroom sink wouldn't drain whatsoever. Other than that, good experience.

I would love to stay a couple more weeks but I couldn't get the govt per diem rate anymore. Some additional pros: Clean hotel, not stingy with waters, $15.00 daily credit (30 for a couple), lite breakfast in lounge, amenities for Empyrean rooms, happy hour specials in lounge, lite dinner in lounge, free pool table at Grain, awesome bartenders who give good recommendations. The king bed was comfortable if a bit soft and the duvet is a bit thin. Sometimes we were cold. The bathroom was clean, but the window in the bathroom doesn't have a room darkening shade, and the bathroom door is frosted glass, so there is a lot of light shiny through. The omelette at the breakfast restaurant was good. There is a delightful free museum of glass adjacent. Gym: had one non- working treadmill and 3 working. It has bikes and a few weights too. Water cups are plastic. This should be changed to something biodegradable Problems : There was not one day that didn't have a significant issue. The least of these was rude or incomplete service, likely based in either poor training or ignorance or both The greatest issues concerned housekeeping. A lack of TOWELS --yes, that's right--meant every day we either had to beg for towels or not shower. The shower leaked onto the floor ( door seal insufficient) so keeping a towel for more than one day wasn't an option as the puddle needed sopping up so the sink could be accessed Gregg, a manager, tried very hard to fix issues. Even with him promising, we still had issues. Because of Gregg's efforts this review is a 2 star instead of a 1 star. Look at my reviews and you will see I very rarely give low ratings Compliments to Adrienne ( front desk who was friendly and helpful with some printing jobs) and Gregg for good service

The location is truly incredible, right in downtown Norfolk with easy access to the waterfront and so much within walking distance. That said, I was a bit disappointed with the vibe on my last visit this past weekend. I was expecting more of a true refresh or "facelift," but it still feels like the property needs additional updates to fully match its potential and prime location. During my stay, there were also noticeable maintenance issues, including an escalator that wasn't working, peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, doors not locking, sheets with makeup stains, and areas that felt generally dated. As for parking I suggest using the paid lots, though they do offer valet. Overall, it's still a solid hotel in an unbeatable location, staff was friendly, check in was a breeze. I would stay again for the convenience and nostalgia alone, but I'd really love to see a more thoughtful, comprehensive remodel to truly bring it up to its full potential.

At around $300 per night, I expected a much higher level of quality and comfort. When we first entered the room, there was a very strong and unpleasant odor. Maintenance had to come and spray Lysol and ZEP to try to eliminate the smell. We ended up opening the windows and the door to air the room out, which eventually helped, but that is not something guests should have to do upon arrival. There were also several maintenance and cleanliness issues in the room. The closet door would not slide properly, the carpet had visible stains, and the bed sheets had a noticeable stain and were wrinkled. The comforters also appeared worn and not very clean, and the sofa looked old and stained as well. While the kitchen area appeared to be cleaned, the rest of the room definitely needed more attention. Another inconvenience was that only one elevator was working. A gentleman who stays there often mentioned that the second elevator had reportedly been out of service for about two months. The breakfast was mediocre at best -- nothing particularly impressive. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and the lobby and hallways were nice and clean, which made the condition of the rooms even more disappointing. Overall, I expected much more from a Marriott property at this price point. The hotel has potential, but the guest rooms need significantly more attention to cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep.

Hampton Inn always has the features we like and this one in Norfolk is no exception. Upon check-in, we were given a room at the end of the hall on the 2nd floor. It turns out the hotel wasn't too full and we were upgraded to a large junior suite! Our very comfortable suite was easily 600-700 sq ft vs a regular 250-300 sq ft room and was long enough to have two windows facing the street. There is a wet bar area by the entrance with sink, refrigerator, coffee machine & microwave. Behind that was a large closet and a separate bathroom sink area outside of the shower/bathtub/toilet room. A king-size bed, 52" HDTV, desk and pull-out sleeper couch filled up the rest of the room. There are plenty of outlets & USB ports conveniently located on the desk and nightstands to charge all your phones, earpods, watches, ipads and laptops. The TV was even mounted on a swing-out mount so that you can see it properly from either the couch or in bed. The WiFi was adequate but you had to sometimes reenter your info to login. Breakfast served from 6am-10am everyday was adequate, though other Hamptons have better spreads. The one chafing tray with 3 compartments usually had scrambled eggs or omelet, sausage or bacon and home fried potatoes or biscuits and gravy. Get some toast or a bagel with fresh fruit, juice and you're all set for the day. The all-day coffee carafes are located in the lobby by the elevators though, not in the breakfast area. You can also enjoy a hot, fresh made Belgian Waffle from the DIY waffle irons, with a full size and a 4 mini iron. If you're on the run, the staff sets out quick grab-n-go breakfast sacks by the front door with bagel & spreads, fruit & yogurt. We didn't get to use the indoor pool, but we did use the gym once, even though it was small with only 3 machines. The gym opens at 6am though.
