Parking--valet only. Stayed for 2 weeks. Tipped at first, but stopped when they started parking my car 100 ft away and pointing me to my vehicle. The smell of skunk in my car smh! Ice ---no ice Machines on ANY floor. You must go to the downstairs Bistro for ice, which is never staffed. Bistro--- never seen anyone in it. I don't think it's even open. There was an electrical fire in our room at 445 AM. Went down to the front desk as we could not remove the lamp that caused the fire cause it was zip tied to a power strip. The gentleman working removed the lamp promptly. Decided to check out early and spoke with management that morning who was COMPLETELY UNAWARE of the incident. Additionally, we asked to switch rooms right after the incident but was told there were no rooms available but in the morning the manager said that she could offer us a room at a different hotel. Courtyard by Marriott - Norfolk Downtown is a great place for a short stay. Don't get it confused by the Marriot a few blocks down. Unfortunately they only offer valet parking for $20 a night. There are cheaper parking garages that surrounds the area. I would have to say that location is key here. You're right by the heart of downtown and good restaurants, along with shopping and nightlife. Great customer service overall! The rooms are clean and well kept, a bit outdated but still doable. I got a great price on an express deal on Priceline but they put me by the elevator. Also, above me was some sort of storage or laundry room. It got loud on the morning. My room shook every time someone closed the doors. For the price I paid, I felt like it fit what I was looking for -- just for a one night stay. read more

This hotel is a scam. No parking is included so you can either park across the street and pay at the parking garage or you can pay them $25 to valet car. Figured with how much we were spending that we would have parking included. Shower doesn't drain and despite calling the front desk three different times, no one ever answered. Paid over $450 for 1 adult, 2 nights although really I was only there from 1am Saturday morning - 4am Sunday morning and no additional amenities were included. Had to pay an extra $9/day & $19/night for parking and breakfast was "a la carte" meaning you could go to the lobby for a $5+ small coffee from the hotel's Starbucks cafe, or $12+ for a two egg omelette, etc. Ridiculous. The woman that did my check-in was too busy on FaceTime to answer any questions for me without making me feel like a nuisance. The room was clean but uncomfortably muggy and humid inside. I had to keep the AC running all night just to make it easier to breathe. I'll be sure to stay far away from this hotel with future visits to the Downtown Norfolk area. read more

As a Marriott Platinum Preferred Elite (the top of the top tier), I think that I've finally found a property that recognizes that status. From the warm greeting when I arrived, the gent who checked me in said that they were comping my parking (sweet!) and then he wrote out four breakfast vouchers (sweet!) and then putting me in a room on the top floor (super sweet!). The room was laid out the same as other Courtyard properties have been - a bed, work desk, small fridge, coffee service and flat panel television. No, there's no microwave. That's not how Courtyard generally rolls. Breakfast in the lobby is not free. That's also the Courtyard way. Free wifi worked well. Review #4700. I love round numbers! read more

A rather disappointing experience all around. Had business in the city and had this hotel recommend by a co-worker. I requested an early check-in since I'm a Marriott Rewards member. At 11am, I arrived, checked in and got my key with the intent of dropping my bags off in the room and then heading to a meeting. I was quite surprised to find housekeeping cleaning my room when I arrived. I told the lady I would drop my bags in the closet and she could continue. After the business day, I went to dinner with colleagues and returned around 8p. When I checked the closet for my bags, you can imagine my surprise to discover they were gone. I called the front desk and was told they would get their bell captain right on it. About 3 minutes later he showed up with my bags and no explanation why they were in a different room. read more

Stayed at the Courtyard Hotel while my wife attended a meeting. It is located in downtown Norfolk, easy walking distance from the Waterside District and Granby Street. This Marriott property is well maintained. Our check-in was quick and without problems as was check-out. Our room was clean and nicely appointed. Our bed was comfortable and had ample pillows. The table lamps had 120v outlets which were convenient for charging electronic devices. The bathroom was clean and supplied with ample soft towels. Everything worked as I would expect - drapes closed without problems, sink stopper held water in the sink, the sink drained rapidly, the lights all worked, etc. The staff we encountered were all very friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and would expect that anyone else who stays at this hotel would also. One thing to note: There is no free guest parking provided by the hotel. The only parking available is valet parking at $19/day. read more

I understand COVID has changed alot of things in the service industry, but my issues are basic cleanliness. We checked into and the staff was great! I parked the car and walking to the room I instantly noticed the large full trash can in the hallway in front of our door. Once in the room I went to plug in my phone charger and noticed the mold surrounding the outlet. Then I jumped in the shower and saw the left over rag hanging from the shower bar. Nothing like a strangers used wash cloth hanging in the bathroom. All in all the decor says Marriott, but the cleaniness screams Motel 6... I'm being nice with this review. They deserve a 2 star at most. We checked in on a Saturday evening. The cost wasn't that bad per night. It is located right across from Macarthur mall in downtown Norfolk. The Waterside is close by as well as other restaurants. The parking was $13 nightly & there was no valet parking. We were on the 6th floor but had to park on the 3rd floor. There was a door from the 3rd floor garage that didn't work going into the hotel, but it worked coming out. So, we had to take the stairs to the first floor just to take the elevator inside back up to the 6th floor. Senseless!!! I was so exhausted that night & just wanted to go to bed. The room was somewhat outdated and dirty. Hair was everywhere in the bathroom & it had that mildew odor. I woke up the next day to a stain or something caked onto the white comforter. I don't want to even imagine what that was. The way I pulled the comforter back, it's clear how I missed that. I was so disgusted just by the looks of it. On top of that, I left something in the room & just called the hotel (1 day after checkout) to ask if they had it in their lost/found. I had to call 5x just for them to answer. Finally, Barbara answered & immediately placed me on a silent hold. I held on 20 long minutes in silence to tell her what was left in the room. She took my info & said she will have the executive housekeeper check into it. I have no faith in getting a call back. Once they found it yesterday, they should've called then. read more

My hair is completely black. Fine it's a hotel. Whatever. 2ND, They charge $25/a day for parking at the hotel. It's "Valet Parking Only." Lol. Go to the corner right down pass the building next to it and street park at the meter. You can park after 6pm overnight until 9am free and pay up to 2 hours at a time to park on an app using the zone for $6...Now 3RD What REALLY threw my partner and I off tonight is stepping out of the room to see somebody on the floor shaking like they were overdosing or on drugs in front of us. Were in total disbelief. We closed our door and called downstairs for somebody to help the person. It was really off putting. We ended up going downstairs to explain how we never seen this from a Marriott since we tend to book with Marriott only. The lady at the desk said "I'm surprised you're shocked! It's Norfolk." So is this a not safe area?????? This hotel is in downtown. Literally downtown Norfolk...It's sad how they run this Marriott. No compensations. No apologies. They didn't seem to care as if this occurs here a lot. Honestly if we weren't in that room and stepped out at that time he may have DIED. NO cameras in sight in the corner room. Scary. Sad. Stayed here for two nights. The staff was amazing. They are Valet only but the attendants were really great and prompt when bringing out your car. The front desk was understaffed but the lady working was handling everything like superwoman. The night we checked in, it was 15 mins before the bistro closed at so I brought the luggage to the room and came back down right at 10:00 and they had already turned off their machines. The lady saw my pregnant belly and made me something anyway! In the morning we were given free breakfast vouchers which allows for a free entree and Starbucks drink at the Bistro. The room itself was clean and pretty standard for Marriott. I love pumping up the AC in hotels and usually I noticed some hotels limit how low or high you can make the AC but not here! Each week I have to leave my family in NJ and head to Virginia. Normally I'd be in a sad state but like clockwork, Ebonee greets me when I check in and opens up her hotel to me. My family and I stayed here for 2 nights. There were yellow stains on our toilet seat, which we assumed was stained pee. My brother slept on the pull out bed, and when he pulled it out, there were crumbs on the mattress and no cover, no pillow and no blanket for the mattress in his room. When he got a pillow, it smelled like a wet dog and could not sleep on it. The breakfast was very expensive with very little portions. The AC would not stay on the setting we put it on, and as a result, we woke up drenched in sweat. Also, the TV was not working for a while. We had to fix it ourselves. There were black specs on our beds, but they WERE NOT bedbugs, but the fact that we had to make sure they weren't is the problem. We will never stay here again. This place is filthy. The walls had visible dust bunnies on them. There was a dead centipede hanging from the sprinkler in my room. The toilet seat was attached with only 1 screw and kept slipping to the side. The shower curtain was about 18 inches too short and didn't cover the entire width of the opening. If you like an extra firm mattress, this is the place for you. I understand things have changed with dining, but the coffee shop isn't even open during the limited hours that are posted in the lobby. For as much as I love the Marriott brand I am sorry say I will not coming back to this location. This was my second week in a row staying for work. I was able to easily able to book ahead using the spg website. I received great prices. The second week was almost double the first but there is the MEAC championship going on right now. The staff is unbelievably friendly and willing to help I must say so thank you! My issues are as follows: Week one: I had to complain about the water because I was in the shower and the knob was loose. When I tried to turn the water from hot to cold the knob would go from top to bottom without assistance and go from cold to scalding hot. When I let them know they were very apologetic and had it fixed by the time I got back that evening. I had a bit of trouble getting into my room at times. The key would turn the light on the door green to enter but the door would not unlock. It often took 3-4 tries to get in to my room. Week two: The entire week the water in the tub had been leaking. Even when I tried to pull it tight to see if I could stop it, continued to leak. I came back night one and I had fresh towels, water, etc but no one made my bed.‍ Day two - it looked like someone had just pulled the covers up to the pillows but still didn't make the bed. The pillow was still the way I left it when I left the room. Day 3 they left me one wash cloth. The check out process was easy. read more

I booked my room via Priceline so I got a massive discount! We live in Virginia Beach but have a very early appointment for a kiddo at the children's hospital and this is close. I have to say the staff has been great to us and very understanding that I'm 1 parent with 5 kids. They have been very patient and helpful with everything from unloading my van, bags & stroller to making sure we had a playpen. Usually people see me coming with 3 kids and toddler triplets and they pretend to be busy. The staff has been great answering all my kids goofy questions & reminding me for the 3rd time what floor the pool is on. Thanks to them for making the night of an already stressed out mom who's trying to keep 5 kids in check while dad is deployed so so much easier! I don't understand why we have to go to the lobby to warm up our food. The beds are really firm so if you like a hard bed Go for it but if you want to be comfortable DO NOT. I stayed here for one night for an early flight out from Norfolk airport in the morning. The check in lady was friendly. However, the young valet guy asked where I was from. When I told him where I was from, he said, "no where are you really from, like what ethnicity?" And then he started speaking in random words in another language. I felt very uncomfortable. The so called grab and go breakfast was a sparse joke for the mount of money they charged per weekend night. I showed my ICU visitor pass and was told they couldn't help me discount the rate. The excuse was I reserved third party. Lame excuse. The general manager was less than cordial when it came to all of the amenities that weren't available. The staff did not wear masks though they required quests to do so. If you count an old granola bar and a 4 oz container of apple juice a breakfast I bet you weigh a lot less than me. I told them I was handicapped and had a placard for the handicap spot but was still given a room as far away from the elevator as possible. Would I recommend this hotel to a loved one? This is the worst Courtyard By Marriot hotel the customer has ever witnessed. The customer suspects this is the worst Courtyard by Marriot in the country. The air conditioning unit does not work within the room. The front desk has a constant busy tone when the customer attempts to contact the front desk for service. There is an odor in many rooms. On this particular stay the customer had to try 3 different rooms to get to a bearable level of odor. Due to travel constraints the customer could not go to a different hotel. The hotel does not have free parking and makes the valet service mandatory to use their garage. 20$ a night for parking and no access to your personal vehicle unless it's through the valet service - very inconvenient.
