We were in town and usually try to find a Chinese buffet to try so we can get multiple things. The ratings on yelp are what led me to this place.. and almost wish we hadn't. Buffet selection was small, more "odd" choices vs some standard items you'd see on a Chinese buffet. Quality of food was also eh, had maybe one or two things that I can say I truly enjoyed and the rest was tolerable. I see now that pricing for what is offered was brought up... definitely an issue. Three people and two sodas was slightly over $70! We could have went to a great restaurant for that cost. It was a bit dark and outdated inside. I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door. I hadn't been here before, so I wasn't sure was I was seeing. I was seated by a young man, I apologize I don't remember your name, and he quickly took my drink order. He knew what beers he had available, and basic information about the beer. I'm guessing he was not old enough to drink. But he was spot on. When he returned to take my order I informed him that I hadn't been there before, and he quickly filled me in. I could order specific meals or dishes, or enjoy the buffet. And I did enjoy it. I tried everything but the soups and salad bar. There was only one dish that I didn't enjoy, but it was personal preference, it looked delicious. The price was very fair, for the buffet, as I took 4 plates! And a bowl of ice cream. My family has eaten here for years. The food can be very well prepared. However, from the buffet, they are hit and miss. About half the time the fried items on the bar are bitter, due to them not using fresh fryer oil. At $20 a head, that is too much of a risk. When you arrive, check the fried green beans. The buffet isn't all that large and the stuff on there was just okay. Too much sauce and not enough protein. My favorite spot when I'm in the area! The best egg drop soup! If you are eating at dinner time you get warm hand towels to clean your hands! Pretty comfortable environment and everyone is always nice! Oh yeaaa the duck sauce(which you have to go request for) is the bombbbb, it kind reminds me of applesauce but I love it with my Spring Rolls! I've been eating at Hing Ta for over twenty years and this is the first time I've been completely dissatisfied. The last time we ate here a few months ago the spring rolls and crab Rangoon tasted like they were burnt or cooked in old oil but everything else was fine. This time everything was horrible. Hing Ta makes my favorite hot and sour soup but this time I could only stomach a couple of spoonfuls, the fried green beans tasted like they were made hours ago, I tried all my usual dishes and they were either overly salty, overcooked or tasted like they were lunch leftovers. I chose to come unto Hing Ta for my birthday dinner. Sadly I am totally disappointed. The service was fine but the food was a total letdown. I think their buffet is great! Very fresh and constantly being restocked. I love the salad part of the buffet too. It's always so fresh. The staff is wonderful. And, I have to say that the Blue Hawaiian was to die for. I think the prices are fair, considering the current economy. I don't want Chinese fast food. Hing Ta is probably my favorite Chinese take-out restaurant ever. They have a great buffet if you're looking to eat in, but I really love eating Chinese at home and snuggled up on the couch. My favorite is the orange chicken. It is so light and flavorful. The sauce is fresh and tastes just like orange; nothing artificial about it! The chicken is juicy, white meat chicken and the breading is delicate and doesn't overwhelm the tender, juiciness of the chicken. I also love their spring rolls! The filling is full of flavor and not just stuffed with soggy cabbage. It's easy to find parking and quick to run in and grab your to-go order. The interior of the restaurant is full of Asian charm. The BEST Chinese buffet we've had since we moved to North Carolina!!!!! This is a quiet little buffet but the food tastes amazing. I ate so much I couldn't eat anymore food. Their homemade duck sauce is to die for. The kids and my husband loved it too. The service was quick and great! As soon as the cup was empty or almost empty she filled it. We found the food to be extremely greasy. It's a very popular place just not to our liking.

Order off-menu and challenge their chef... he has skills. We skipped the buffet as it was drawing close to closing time and ordered from the menu. As we were awaiting our order; the owner approached our table and asked if we'd like to try some tempura green beans freshly prepared by her chef as her dinner. I'm so glad we said yes as they were very, very tasty and fresh! She then suggested that any time we were in the area and stopping in that we should order anything whether it be on the menu or not. She bragged of her chef's creative skills and I can see why. We'll definitely make this place a regular stop on the way to/from the coast. read more

When we discovered this restaurant a few years ago we were so excited! Half way between DC and where we stop overnight in SC on our way to FL. Sure, it's a few miles off 95, but the buffet food was so tasty! This time was different. It was a Sunday and the place was mobbed! We thought they were giving away the food. It pains me to have to leave this review. As a Rocky Mount native, I have been going to this restaurant since I was a small child. I am now thirty-four years of age, and I think tonight was my last time dining here. There are many issues to address. I will begin by addressing the attitude of the young woman who acts as manager when the Owner isn't in the restaurant. There are words I'd rather use, but I will say she is EXTREMELY unkind, unprofessional, and arrogant. On many occasions, I have been treated disrespectfully by her both over the phone and in person. I have even gone out of my way to warn a family member of her attitude before going to retrieve a call-in order, only to have my fear of his mistreatment by this young woman validated thoroughly. The owner's attitude is a polar opposite. She is warm and kind. It feels like she cares about me and my family when I'm in the restaurant. Nothing is too much of a request to her. She goes above and beyond with professionalism. How the rude young manager has been allowed to run the show in the owner's stead for this long, is well beyond my understanding. The next issue I'll focus on is the buffet, for which this restaurant is known. I walked into the restaurant at 8:20 on a night that the restaurant is open until 10:00. When I walked in, the buffet was skimpy, to put it lightly. There was hardly anything in any of the trays. It felt like they had already been well into the process of closing the restaurant. I get it, times are hard in 2023 and they aren't going to fill up the trays for the last 90 minutes of the night. But the amount of food in those trays was downright depressing. I almost walked out but the waiter roped me in and I didn't want to be a jerk. After all, I've been a patron at the restaurant for almost thirty years. I picked what I could, and made a decent plate, even though I didn't have a couple of my favorite items because the trays they were supposed to be in were completely empty. When I took my first bite and bit into a fried chicken wing, it was fully cooked, and the flavor was good, but it was as cold as if it had been sitting on the table I was dining at for a couple hours. Red flag. Almost every item I had on my plate followed suit. I swear it was as if they had turned the steam table off already or something. It was a hard thing to put out of mind while I was eating. Nothing on the hot part of the buffet was fresh. Nothing. And I've seen it like that once or twice before, but thought it was just an "off" night. It wasn't. That's how they run the restaurant now. Last, and most important: I got the buffet for one, with an iced tea. $24 and some change. Pre tax. I walked out feeling victimized. I used to love this place. I'm still fond of the owner. I just don't think I'll go back to pay that much money for what I had to choose from...very depressing. 1 star. read more

We came in at 8 o'clock after seeing here on the app they are open until 10pm. I was unaware that as we came in that they would no longer be restocking the buffet with fresh food. I had to eat mainly vegetables because there was hardly anything left. I already felt bothersome because I had asked for some sesame chicken that they refilled with literally one portion size for the whole buffet just for us to share 4 pieces, Food was really good, just not enough variety or enough for a buffet. This restaurant had very delicious food. It was slightly different than the average Chinese buffet with what they offered. The ribeye with onion was my fave thing on the buffet. Our waitress was super helpful and made sure our glasses never went below half of a glass. Unfortunately I didn't grab any photos of the food because I gobbled it right up!
