I had the worst breakfast ever at Sunrise Country Grill!!! I ordered a catfish plate which i was told it came with 2 fish but only got one which was fried soft no seasoning. It came with grits again no seasoning the cheese eggs which was the only good thing on the plate. The plate cost $19.00 last time at Country Sunrise i would done better going to McDonald's!!! read more

We flew in from Idaho and started our trek to Duck NC. It was nearing dinner time and Duck was still a few hours away. My wife started looking for restaurants in Tarboro that had good ratings. She chose the Country Sunrise Grill. It did not disappoint, wow! The food was scrumptious and the service fantastic. You know you've picked a good spot when locals had returned for their meals. I had the Pulled Pork plate, fries, Mac-n-cheese, and Texas toast! My wife had the Bbq chicken, Mac-n-cheese, Hush puppies, and fried Okra, Mom had the pulled pork sandwich! Highly recommend if you're needing close to the freeway and some home cooking meal. Hometown feeling! Don't get us wrong about feeling a little "hillbilly" now since we're from Idaho! This was my first, and last. Visit to this restaurant. I had high hopes since it is a locally owned place. This is definitely a cafe/diner experience. Staff was friendly. I was brought the menu which had no prices listed for ANY of their food items. I asked how I was to know the price and my waitress just told me to let her know which item I am interested in and she will Tell me the price. First red flag ignored. As price really wasn't an issue, I ordered their breakfast steak and eggs. I ordered the steak med rare and eggs over medium. I was nearly done with what I could manage to eat when my waitress came back to check on me. Note, I was only one of three tables there. The steak came out warm but definitely rare. My waitress offered to take it back and throw it on the grill but since it was a small chewy piece of meat I declined. The eggs on the other hand were overcooked. The hash browns that came with the meal left a weird film in my mouth. After my complaint about the steak, my waitress didn't come back to check on me. For those interested in knowing, the 4 Oz steak and eggs with hash browns and toast was the daily 'special' , and cost $14. I have never been happier that I didn't have my whole Family with me for this experience. I like to frequent local restaurants but I was extremely disappointed in this one. read more

Husband ordered the roast beef special with mashed potatoes. The roast beef was premade and warmed on a flat top grill and doused in gravy. Mashed potatoes were instant. He did not eat it. I ordered the bbq. It was pulled pork that had been warmed on a flat top and covered in a vinegar sauce was saturated with red pepper flakes. It was dry and too hot. Save your time and money. I actually met someone who said they would come to Tarboro specifically to eat here. Why? The food is poorly prepared, you have to ask to have your table cleaned after walking into an empty cafe (it's not a restaurant) and silverware is dirty. For the quantity and quality of the food, they are overpriced. At last 2 other locally owned places with better everything... Food, service, and price. Met folks for breakfast meeting and we were the only four in the place. Nothing like a cool over easy fried egg and barely warm French toast. And they don't have milk! Really? Not even at breakfast. My husband and I ate lunch here a few weeks ago. It is right off of Highway 64 in Tarboro. The food was amazing. I had pork barbecue and fried chicken with fried okra. The serving was bountiful. I needed a box for leftovers. He had a hamburger steak with onion rings and mashed potatoes. The folks are courteous and kind. The food is home style and delicious and prepared in a timely fashion. Stopped here on our way back from Nags Head: cold and rainy day. Has the beef soup and grilled cheese looking for simple comfort food.... WoW!!! The soup was the best beef soup ever: tasty, full of veggies and beef. The beef had been cooked with a savory rub which permeated the soup... the grilled cheese was buttery enough and the cheese totally melted. And then there was dessert.... Save room. Food was cold but good. Service was slow for only three tables. We got our food and drinks and finished before waitress came back.

I enjoy coming to this Restaurant to eat.. it's very quiet and laid back... staff very friendly and food also tasty, well at least what I ordered lol. Over all 5/5 most definitely one of my favorite breakfast spots. Try them out you'll make it one of your favorite places too read more

This restaurant is AMAZING! During my recent weekend stay in Tarboro, I had the pleasure of dinning here for dinner and breakfast on the last night and morning of my visit. I left wishing that I had discovered this on day one. First I visited for dinner and met the owners husband, Ellwood. His presence was the epitome of "southern hospitality"! He walked me through the menu and offered great recommendations to my family and I. We ended up with with fried tilapia, buffalo wings, and cheese burgers. I would recommend all of these dishes. The food was fresh, tasty and filling. Also the sides of potato salad, collard greens, cabbage, fries, corn sticks and hush puppies confirmed the time and love put into these dishes. The food was so good, I invited the other 10 members of my traveling family for breakfast the next morning. This is not a large restaurant but they seated and fed my entire family with ease. They made recommendations, split our checks and managed the rest of the establishment well. I heard rave reviews about the pancakes, grits, sausage (the pork sausage being my FAVORITE), eggs and toast (the buttered Texas toast was yummy). The entire menu was available during breakfast so I even got the pork BBQ and buffalo wings to go. This little cafe is my aunt's favorite breakfast place in Tarboro. So when we went to visit her a few weeks ago, we decided to take her for breakfast. It's basically like a bigger version of someone's kitchen at home. Clean and spacious, nothing fancy. But it's well kept, and you can tell all the customers are regulars. Their breakfast specials are cheap! Like $5. I got pancakes (2) and grits and bacon and I think it was around $5. The pancakes are HUGE and tasted like they were made from scratch. Buttermilk maybe? Some of the best pancakes I've ever had. The bacon was nice and crispy, the grits were ok. The gals who run the place came over to greet my aunt while we were there, and we had a nice little chat. Tarboro is a small little community, but it's clear that the folks running this place really do their best to provide quality and care to every customer. They also checked in on my aunt after my uncle passed away earlier this year. This used to be the place they'd go for breakfast every Friday morning. They made sure she ate enough and was taken care of. It's clear they are more friends than just customer/restaurant owners. There aren't really many places like this that I've found in LA. It's nice to see a smaller home town place where community comes together. read more

If you are looking for exotic, or an upscale urban environment, this is probably not it. But then again you are not likely to find that in most small towns. We have been there consistently through the years, and the food is made with care, with heart, and with pride in the finished product. They have some outstanding dishes, including their barbecue chicken which is sometimes on the menu, and their chicken pastry which shows up on Wednesdays, among our favorites. Family owned and operated, I can tell you that the owners know many of their patrons by name, and actually care about them. Stopped here on my way to the airport from the outerbanks. This place was small and surrounded by fast food. Since I like to support small local businesses over chains we stopped. The omelets were really good and my uncle had stuffed hash browns and really enjoyed them. The portion sizes were huge compared to how much each meal cost. Try the steak and eggs. Southern country style meals are as they should be with a choice of meals like country fried steak. If you don't order the fried green tomatoes and the onion rings you are missing a treat. The tomatoes are seasoned just perfect and the onion rings are lightly battered thinly sliced onions that are crisp and crunchy. The hamburger steak was perfect, tender and delicious, and best of all, the gravy was not overly salty. The trout tasted like it had been caught that morning and everything else was just incredible. The staff was extremely nice and cordial; they almost make you feel like you are family that has stopped in for a visit.
