Though friendly, accessible and affordable, this small vineyard has some rough edges to smooth out. (Long One) Seating. Superb. You have front porch seating, an inside area with high tops and a few couches, and a large back patio over looking the vines. Wine tasting. Done well. Personally didn't like 90% of the offerings. Later settled on a berry wine that was 5%. Note: if someone doesn't like their one ounce pour, they remind you that regulations say it has to go down the drain. No biggie. We went to the shop for snacks and a bottle. They can start a tab, plus. They didn't have carafes to keep you bottle cold at your table. Negative. They offered to put it in their cooler with our name on it. Pass Asked why no carafes? The other workers took them to a wine festival. She mentioned a trough that communally people place their bottles in and leave their seats to pour from. Food. Close to nothing. Two cheese and cracker boxes to choose from. My friend sprung for the larger. Pickles. Olives. Chips. Nuts and other assorted items. Some novelty candy is offered and the only chocolate was a Lindy one piece at a time for a dollar at the register. Didn't count it against them for not having a full bodied dry red. An absolutely amazing winery just off the path of 95 All of their wines are fruit forward and sweet, including their ports, but their price points cannot be matched. I think their most expensive bottle was like $20 They have wine tasting and a full novelty shop. They have indoor and outdoor seating with rocking chairs and tables. The customer service/ staff is all very sweet and knowledgeable. They have events and community happenings. They have live music at times. This is a terrific place that I will absolutely visit anytime I am driving through the area and need to take a pit stop off 95. read more

I have had Hinnant Family Vineyards wines before at a NC wine festival, but have never made it out to the winery until recently. The grounds are beautiful and they have a large patio to enjoy the wine looking out onto the vineyards. We ordered four different flights to share between three of us - you get four wines for each flight. White Wines: *Carolina Wildflower - White muscadine wine sweetened with honey. It was very good, light in honey flavor. *Gimme Some Sugar - White muscadine bursting with floral notes and a sweet finish. This was very good! *Scuppernong - Traditional muscadine. The one was just okay. Blush Wines: *Southern Pink - Light muscadine with a mix of red and white grapes. This one was just okay, it was just so light in flavor. Red Wines: *Tarheel Red - Traditional red muscadine with a sweet jammy taste. This one was good. *Gimme Some Sugar - Sweet muscadine wine bursting with fruit flavor notes and a light finish. This one was okay, liked the white version better. *Southern Twang - Unique muscadine blend with a fruit tart finish. This one was okay, and my least favorite of the reds. It was light in flavor compared to the others. Wine Candy: *Berrybliss - Combination of blackberry, blueberry, cranberry, raspberry, and strawberry. This was strong on the cranberry flavor, but it was still good. *Citrusbliss - Burst of grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, and tangerine citrus flavors. This one was too lemon for me, did not care for it at all. *Fruitbliss - Fruit punch flavor with cherry, peaches, pears, plums, and watermelon. Good, but definitely like a fruit punch, not necessarily a wine that I want. *Tropicbliss - Tropic combination of guava, kiwi, mango, passionfruit, and pineapple. This one was very good! Whole Fruit Wines: *Strawberry - Just okay. *Blackberry - Good. *Peach - Just okay. *Blueberry - Did not like at all. Holiday Wines: *Holiday Classic - Their favorite holiday wine to enjoy fireside. This one was very good and one of my favorites of the day! Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Hinnant as it was a quiet setting when we went. I wouldn't say Hinnant is up there with my favorite NC wineries, but they had a couple of wines that we really enjoyed. We ultimately left with a bottle of the Holiday Classic. When I needed a quick day trip, I found this winery while shopping at the Carolina Premium Outlets one Spring day. The staff is great with taking care of customers and allowing you to take portable flights that can be enjoyed wherever it's comfortable for you. The wines are the classic ones we all grew up on, as Hinnant has been around for as long as I can remember. I love the semisweet, and I'm more of a dry fan. This patio overlooking the vineyard provided the much-needed peace I sought after a long work week. I'm thankful for the experience here and always love the wine. This place was nice. There were little round tables in the front where you purchase your tickets, wine, snacks. And they have an outdoor patio that has plenty of seating that overlooks the winery. They had live music. The musician that was there was so nice he even played itsy bitsy spider for my daughter. She loved it. We were only allowed to do the flights because my daughter was not allowed to be at the other side of the bar. I will say the design of the flights isn't the greatest and I felt like they could just fall out of if I tilted it the wrong way. They have food trucks that come, and Chirba Chirba dumplings was there. I have not had them before but we enjoyed the soup dumplings over the spicy chicken dumplings we ordered. read more

My boyfriend and I visited this winery yesterday afternoon with our dog. It was our first time here and I was excited to try some of their wines. We took advantage of the $5 for $10 Yelp deal too. I was very disappointed to see that none of the staff were wearing masks, and it was very crowded when I entered the lobby. There was zero social distancing happening during COVID. I ordered (2) flights for my boyfriend and I to try. We sat outside and I was happy to see that at least the chairs and tables were about 6-feet apart. The view of the vineyard was gorgeous and we began to sample the wines and relax. Our favorite wine was the Cabernet Sauvignon and we ended up ordering a bottle to share. Several buzzed patrons stopped by our table to pet our dog, not wearing masks of course, and got very close to us. It was very uncomfortable. This is a beautiful winery and we're trying to support local businesses, but we won't return until after the pandemic. read more

This was a lovely establishment. The employees seemed a bit stand offish at first but quickly warmed up and ended up being super gracious and helpful. We arrived as they were preparing for their Black Friday event so only flights and not tastings were available. The flight was $12 for a decent of four wines of your choice. I'm a sweet gal so the Holiday Classic and Scuppernog or something like that were my favorite. Santa Baby was the worst IMO. The view was lovely and peaceful. The gift shop seemed to have cute odds and ends although I didn't really browse. They also had a grape juice for my little one that he downed and I very much appreciated. We have stopped here for years on our way to the beach. The wine is sweet and delicious. There is a cute gift shop in the main building. Today when we stopped, the staff was just rude to us. Loved this place. Deducted a star because the people who work here don't wear masks (is that even legal?) though there are hand sanitizers everywhere and no indoor seating allowed. You pay at the cash desk for wine flights (no more tasting) and your can either take it to the front or back porch. It's 4 wines for $12. The back porch had many seating options available, well distanced. There were also large industrial fans on to general better air flow which was appreciated. This is family owned, everyone is very nice and knowledgeable. Would recommend the electric pelican and moondance. I personally enjoy sweet wines but the ones labeled sweet are sweet even for me! I would say they're around 12-15% sugar if that means anything to you. Def get a balanced spread if that's not your thing. After drinking, we went next door to pick grapes. You pay $1 for entry and get a bucket. It's $1.50/pound which is SO SO REASONABLE. Bring cash, not sure they take card. You can try the grapes as you pick them off the vines. There are both red and green variants. The bar closes at 4pm and grape picking ends around 5/5:30pm so def plan accordingly. read more

Drove in today to enjoy a different local winery. They expanded in past few months and the new editions just beautiful. New tasting room is wide open with small gift shop. There's glass doors leading out to a covered shaded patio overlooking the vineyard and it's a great place grab a glass of wine sit and enjoy view. It was really hot today so only went out to take pictures. I got to taste 10 wines for $10 and keep the glass. They have other options too but I'm kinda picky about NCIS wines. I enjoy sweet or semi sweet. They have port wines as well made with bourbon . Did not get into that today but I really enjoyed my visit. No restaurant on site but they have muffins and salads and few sandwiches already made for sale. It was a good day trip if your into local wines. read more

This was my second time heading here and this time it was prom theme for those who never been to their prom or want to relive it. One of the best things they have is the wine slushes and they had a food truck outside with great food. The dj was really good and kept the dance floor packed. Decided to get out of Fayetteville for the day and check out Hinnant Family Vineyards. As I pulled up from the road I was welcomed by the beauty of a warm sun and rolling hills filled with vines. I entered their main tasting room and was greeted by Barbie who helped me decided on a few wines to add to taste. Due to COVID-19 they are not doing individual tastings, but offering flights of four 2 oz wines for $12. I picked up two white wines (Southern White and Moondance Magnolia), the Loggerhead Red, and a pomegranate fruit wine. I decided to get a block of local cheese and I was on my way to their back patio. Walking around the building passing a rows of Vines the back opened up to the patio and a large field. The field was filled with even more vines and was just beautiful especially since the weather was warm, but had a cool breeze with tons of dotted clouds that seem to lightly touch the vines in the back. All of the Hinnant wines I were super delicious and refreshing. My favorites were the Loggerhead red and Moondance Magnolia. I am not a huge sweet wine drinker, so I stuck with the semi-sweet, but they had just enough dryness and fruit that made me want to keep drinking. A couple of ladies I met let me try their Carolina Wildflower, which was considered sweet, but was a very subtle sweet with lots of fruit backing. I like that Hinnant had a great mix of sweet, dry, and semi-sweet, so there was definitely something there for everyone. Lastly I love their great prices and they offer a military discount, which is so nice! read more

We've been here at least 4 times or more. Every time family or friends would visit, we took them here to do the wine tasting. We've also done the muscadine grape picking twice. That's usually early September. You pay $1 and eat as many as you want and/ or you can pick them and pay by weight to take home. We always end up buying bottles to take home. I'm also a big fan of their wine slushies! I love the peach Bellini one. We also went here for an Air Force Dining Out Event. They catered and held the event in the hall. I've found a lot of gifts for people in their shop. Every time I go there I find something else I want to buy. read more

We did a tasting. Servers were friendly and the wines definitely weren't my style but everyone else seemed to like them, so cool, but They needed more people working. Is it a chronic thing that they're short staffed? I guess I'll never know since I'm not coming back. But on this off-season Saturday, they Absolutely needed 2 more people. We did a tasting for two of 8 1oz pours, which took over an hour. Come on. The tasting servers were also the cashiers, bartenders, and bussers. Get someone else to help! For their reach and billboard advertising, they certainly cater to the locals. The bar area was (not exaggerating) 30 people deep with visitors and tourists, while the bartenders focused on 6 regulars they knew. Big boards and verbal reminders of serving limits (4 glasses total!) were ignored for the local who was "wine crying, not sad crying" on her 7th drink. Regulars frequently cut the line to get refills. Which, cool, I get it. You build your business to your audience. But the repercussions are MEANIE-FACE YELP REVIEWS from out of towners who expected more. I'm painting a bad picture, but you're probably going here anyway. If it is available, get the groupon tasting. It's more comprehensive than the other tasting options, and you get to bring a bottle with you. read more

I brought my mother here and we had a blast. She had never been wine tasting before and truly enjoyed herself. The staff is very friendly. We had Hannah who was knowledgeable and had a sense of humor. I didn't realize they made so many different wines and their tasting menu changes every few weeks. We will definitely be back again. The ambiance is relaxing. Sitting outside and enjoying a glass of wine is definitely an enjoyable afternoon. There isn't a restaurant but they do have delicious snacks on hand. Ashe county cheeses and crackers just to name a few. Take a browse through the store. There are definitely many different tee shirts, signs, glasses and other items in the store you may want to bring home. If you have never been you should definitely stop in for a tasting. I gotta give ''em all 5 stars, on the taste alone - I've not been there, but plan to go as soon as I can make it (it's only a half hour away, but right now they're not doing tours due to COVID . They are doing tastings, however!) If you want to taste the muscadine grape in all its glory, with a lovely finish, Tar Heel Red is for you. I've been warned repeatedly that the strength of this wine is not to be smirked at: I just smile and agree. You can even pick your own grapes in the fall! Man, this wine tastes just like when your sucking the pulp off the seeds of a perfectly ripe muscadine - no lie. It even won a platinum medal at the 2011 San Diego wine competition. Such a fun winery to visit! My wife and I went to check them out, even though it was an hour away. It was well worth the drive! You can't beat the prices they have. Visited the day after a major holiday (Christmas) so I was surprised they were open for tastings. There were quite a few walk ins as well, which makes me think the locals frequent to pick up their favorites. Only one very nice lady running the place this day: she was attentive to those ready to taste, while pausing to ring up customers purchasing wine and other items from the little gift shop. On to the wine - its very clear these are sweet wines so if you are a dry wine person, just be prepared. I enjoy almost all varieties so knowing what I was in for, I actually enjoyed most the offerings, with only 1 or 2 unbearably sweet for my taste. They were featuring some exclusive Ava Gardner wines of which Barefoot Beach Beauty was my favorite. Bought a bottle with a friend. Overall, nice way to spend some time with friends. I ended up here because of a bachelorette who loves muscadine grapes, which I learned gets used often for sweeter wines. I was a little nervous about getting the sweet wine headaches I'm all too familiar with, but with plenty of hydration, I survived the Groupon wine tasting - which dives into both white and red vs. having to pay for 2 tastings (white and red) if you just walked in. The staff was so lively and fun, but the place was pretty empty on a long 4th of July weekend, but there were always customers stopping in either for a glass of wine or to purchase a few bottles. They seem to always be running a deal on 3+ bottles purchased, and they have a military discount on 3+ bottles. The place is clean with lots of cute and nifty gifts to browse and maybe buy as a present. They have plenty insulated reusable wine cups that would keep a wine chilled without melted ice - perfect to gift your fellow wine enthusiasts/lovers. I was too caught up in trying to pick a bottle to take home with us courtesy of the Groupon to peruse the entire place though. It's tiny, but there were so many things to look at. We were guided through our wine tasting professionally and had excellent conversations. We were asked to post our rating scale and rate the wine tastings as we went along. It was such an enjoyable, casual experience because the wine production and tasting notes were explained, and our bartender was just so friendly and fun. What an awesome place to take the kids and the family for a fun time of grape picking. It's a beautiful location and a great way to spend an hour and half outdoors. Best of all you pick what you want and enjoy it for the rest of the week (or at least until you run out) The grapes were delicious and sweet and endless. So many grapes that I wonder what happens to them when the season ends. We also bought the white grape juice that they sold in the shop and its DELICIOUS. Great signage lured us off the highway to give Hinnant a visit. However, once we turned onto the first road, signage disappeared. We had an "adventure" leading us well past the location until we finally asked "Siri" to direct us there. If this is your experience, too, just start with navigation support as soon as you leave the highway! Our server, Hannah, was über friendly and helpful with walking us through the tastings. We were pretty curious, having moved from California, and holding pretty high expectations regarding wineries. In our new home state, South Carolina, we have limited ability to grow grapes like we did previously. In North Carolina, the climate creates similar conditions to South Carolina, but allows for slightly expanded varietals. The winery also imports the juice of wine grapes from the western US, then ferments and bottles wines for about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the line up of options offered. This allows Hinnant to bring a mix of wine options to local consumers. Hinnant is a friendly family winery. You're not going to see a sophisticated, designer tasting room or drink any dense, velvety reds. You ARE going to enjoy a fun experience, with an array of tasting options. One of my faves was their blush syrah--where the imported juice was fermented without the skins that give traditional syrah the characteristic deep red. Years ago, Meridian (located in Paso Robles, CA) was one of the first wineries to offer commercially produced red wine grapes fermented without the skins. Their's was a cabernet grape, and the resulting blush wine was called "cabernet blanc." This generates a fabulous, light summer wine hinting at red wine flavors. If you're traveling Hwy 95 and see the Hinnant signs, take the detour. If you aren't in the area, check them out online--they do ship. We thought this a worthy stop. read more

This is what I LOVE about road trips - finding places like this. It's adorable- nice gift shop and the people are super friendly. We did the deal on YELP - five dollars for 10 and decided on doing two flights because we could pick whatever wines we wanted. We selected 8 different wines - all dry with one semi dry. I have to say there wasn't a bad one in the bunch which surprised me. We ended up buying a bottle of the Pinot Gris, Rose and the Noble and couldn't leave without two bottles of Torche IPA. Wine is reasonably priced and the place is dog friendly. What more could you ask for?? Can't wait to stop on our way back from Florida. read more

Very cool experience here. My family had fun picking the grapes and we had a contest to find the biggest grape. We also ate so many grapes as we were picking them that we felt so full and a lil queazy haha. My parents liked the gift shop and tasted the wine and they ended up buying lots of grape juice. The establishment is a short 45 minute drive from Raleigh, NC. Upon entering the doors at the vineyard the vibrant staff did not hesitate in greeting both me and my friend. After noticing we were winery "first timers" they made it their business to explain all that Hinnant had to offer. It's the friendly and caring customer service for me‼ ** ** After seeing the signage for the wine slushies, there was no turning back. We opted to purchase the LARGE slushies (which comes with a Hinnant souvenir cup) for $15 each. The refills were half off with the purchase of this cup, so it was wise to get it!!! Lastly, if you bring the souvenir cup on your next visit to the winery you will only pay $7!!! All in all I highly recommend visiting this winery. I surely will be coming back! read more
