Crafty was the first *truly* Alt-Friendly bar or beer-bottle shop in the Triangle; other places would carry CBD stuff or some of the "Euphorics" that don't really do anything, but Crafty has had a selection of D8 (Delta-8) cans since 2021. they carry Magnifico--far and away the best Alternative Beverage on the market (tho the other Groovewagon stuff is also great)--and have an entire menu of D8 Cocktails that are delicious. So last weekend, I was headed to a wine and design event with a friend. I forgot it was my turn to get the food and wine. Crafty happened to be right in front of where I parked. The staff was super helpful in selecting a Red Wine blend. While I was there I looked around a d definitely think this is a place I will come back to and bring the hubby. Although I have a deep affection for this neighborhood bar (with its elegant back patio, top notch staff, and a wide selection of glassware--I recommend the highly underrated 10oz glass), I do have one bone to pick. And that is with how they treat a little basil plant, who I affectionately call "Barry". Over the past few months, I've witnessed Barry transform from a wee seedling to a mature, yet slightly awkward, teenager. But here lies the problem. In this pivotal moment of plant adolescence, I saw Barry not receive the precious nutrients he needs to become fully self-sufficient and self-actualized. Thing got so bad just today, that I actually saw Barry try to make a run for it. One moment he was casually dying of thirst on a table, and then he made a dash for the tree to see if he could hop over the fence. Alas, he lacked the the legs and opposable thumbs to hurl himself over. Then I saw him try to hitch a ride on top of a patron's car. Wendy and Glen are the owners and absolutely delightful. We were invited to a retirement party held in the back room, specially reserved for us. The bartenders took great care of us. Lots of beers on tap, great wine selection (looking forward to coming in for their wine dinner), full bar, and craft beers to go. This neighborhood bar has a friendly crowd of locals that welcomed us at the door. We will be back. Yeah, but primarily if you live in the neighborhood. Is it an interesting spot? Well yeah, if you're into the preppy Five Points crowd. All in all, Crafty is not bad at all but only if I lived in the hood. There's just enough bottles, beer and interesting people to make it sorta worthwhile. And not only is their price per pint high ($7 - $8), it doesn't even cover tax. But If I have to drive to visit, there are plenty of other good options for less money. This is my favorite bottle shop and bar in Raleigh. They have reasonable prices, an excellent selection of beers and they are also a wonderful neighborhood bar in a great location: the center of Five Points. The place is moderately crowded on most nights of the week, the staff and friendly and approachable and the space is very nice. There is a bar area with couches and other seating, a back room and a pleasant outdoor patio. They also have wine, a liquor license and an interesting mixed drink list, but I cannot really comment on the quality of the drinks and wine as I stick to beer when I visit. read more

We walked in here by chance because it was across the street from Lilly's Pizza where we had lunch. It's a bottle shop/bar and we just wanted to see what local brews they might have since we were there. This would be a cool place to hang out for a bit if you were in the area. They have games, live music, and an indoor lounge area. You might want to check it out if that's your thing or just head there to browse and take home some local brews like we did. They had just opened for the afternoon when we got there. They have a good selection of local crafts and a decent selection of hard cider which is always harder to find. Stopped here after dinner on a Saturday night to have a beer at the bar and pick up some new bottles to take home. The thing about this beer shop that is different from others I've been to (Tasty, Beer Study, Bottle Revolution, etc) is that the bar area is much larger - it is the size of bar you'd see in a restaurant. That means that there is less room for racks of bottled beer for sale. The selection of bottled beer was nicely organized and had some great option for creating a sample pack, like I was doing. They had a local section with a good amount of local breweries. The place was packed to the brim with bottles - even a little room in the back. There weren't as many beers on tap as I had expected for a bar that size. We had the Duck Rabbit Hoppy Bunny since we hadn't tried it before. I think they had about 7 beers on tap and I wish they had had a few more. They also served wine. I might have ordered a second beer but they were $7 a piece! The bet part of this beer shop is the lounge area - couches and tables for people to sit. At 8pm on a Saturday night we were able to get a seat easily. We will definitely be back. read more

I liked this venue, but since making the move downtown, I will be more likely to pick venues downtown where I can walk. There was a really really drunk woman there- she kept spilling her beer and stumbling all over the place, and she wasn't making a lot of sense. So based on her behavior, I would have to say entertainment is provided here, as well as beer. read more

Came here for a birthday gathering at he back of the shop. We arrived early and sat in the comfy couch in the front of the store. No one came to greet us so I just figured it was a very casual place. They have root beer and gluten free beer. The cherry blossom hard apple cider was amazingly refreshing. Staff was attentive when we made purchases. The back of the shop has comfortable seating. I think Crafty is a welcomed addition to Five Points, especially if you live in the area. I visited with some friends who lived right up the street, and it was great to be able to walk over and grab a beer. It's conveniently located near Lilly's Pizza, so grab a 6pk and a pizza and you have the perfect night! Crafty is not huge, but decorated nicely. They have couches to lounge on, and a nice bar to sit at, which is a plus. Comparing it to my all time favorite bottle shop, Bottle Rev, this place doesn't come close to being as good. They have less of a selection and their pints are much more expensive. I'd frequent again if in the area with friends, but would never go to Crafty on my own accord. I'd recommend this place to anyone who lived in Five Points and were looking for convenience, but if you want to save a few dollars, it might be worth the drive to try someplace else. read more

A welcome addition to the neighborhood! We've already been 4 times in the past two weeks. Fantastic selection of beers, but what really sets this place apart from other craft beer stores is their huge bar with rotating taps. They have 8 well curated beers on tap that are constantly changing. They're always happy to give you a taste. Pours come in 10oz and 16oz options. They don't always sell the bottle version of what they have on draft, so that can be a bit disappointing, but they will point you towards similar brews they have in stock. All the more reason to drink the beer in the store! They've done a great job filling out the space of an old antique shop and they offer free wi-fi to those who would like to work while they drink. Good music. Good atmosphere. Friendly people behind the bar. They also just started serving wines... Since this place is so new, I can't wait to see what else they have planned. I love this little craft beer shop in 5 Points. I've been keeping my eye on Crafty for awhile, watching everyone sitting outside enjoying their beers. I finally had an opportunity to check them out while waiting for a table at Hayes Barton across the street. This place gets busy fast but the bartender had no problem keeping up. I had a couple of samples before I decided to order the Unknown brewery wheat beer. The beer was delicious and I had the chance to check out a brewery that I never heard of before. They had around 6 or 8 taps to chooses from and had Double Barley's Black IPA on tap - this already made me a fan. The store is smaller then some of the other craft beer stores in town but it's cozy and a great neighborhood spot. There are a few tables to sit outside and enjoy the sidewalk and people watch, but you can also head inside and sit at the bar or on one of the comfy leather couches. Plenty of cold bottled beers to choose fun and they also offer wine for those non beer drinkers. I saw a few snacks you can order at the bar too I believe they had some cheese and crackers and stuff. I felt really comfortable here and can't wait to come back again. I could see myself hanging here all day for Sunday Funday! read more

If I lived in Five Points, I might live at Crafty. It's a pretty chill spot with a nice bar and also a patio out back. You can park behind the building, though be careful entering because it's a one-way driveway. I've stopped by Crafty a few times to build my own 6-pack. I've almost always been disappointed by the price. Compared to other Raleigh bottle shops, I feel like I'm spending at least $1-2 more per bottle. The price is not a big deal, but it adds up and doesn't make me feel good about this place. Other than that, it's fine. Located off of Glenwood and Fairview in the Five Points location of Raleigh, the Crafty Beer Shop is a recent addition to a retail niche for beer merchants. Prior trailblazers to this particular model in the City of Oaks includes Ridgewood Beer & Wine Co. off of Wade Ave and Bottle Revolution off of Lake Boone Trail. The concept? Drink here, and then take some home. It's a sensible model. Opened in July of 2013, the shop is still finding its way into the consciousness of locals, but my two visits have been overwhelmingly positive, and considering that I'm enjoying their products even as I type this (a Tank 7 from my hometwon Boulevard Brewery in Kansas City), I felt obligated to answer some of your burning questions on whether or not a visit is worth your time. Do you like beer? YOU DO, and it's a good thing. That's the preeminent prerequisite for visiting the CBS. As far as I can tell, beer is 95% of the appeal. There's a limited wine selection and some artisanal cheese straws, but it's like I tell 14-year-old kids, "No matter what you hear, you don't go to a strip club for the lunch buffet." Do you know anyone who likes beer? Stop traffic, because YOU DO! Well, feel free to make their day by purchasing them any one of the 500+ craft beers on site (this is the claimed number from a WRAL business review. I'd be surprised if they matched that number, but it's a grand selection none the less). Do you like spending a little time drinking in public and then going home and drinking more of the thing you were drinking in public? Great news if YOU DO, because that's exactly what this store is all about. When describing your favorite aftertaste in a beer, do the words "pretentious", "particular", "local", or "refined" ever escape your mouth? They DO NOT, and that's okay, because a totally regular guy can enjoy the beer here. The bartenders on both my visits were informative and helpful, sure, but they were mostly friendly and communal, a must for any local purveyor of craft beer. I love craft beer. That is about all I should put in this review. I almost get farklempt thinking about this culturally beer diverse town! I don't know what I did without craft beer before. Enough about me! This is an easy going little bottle store. When we went in it seemed to cater to a more mature crown. I liked that. I heard some good conversations and a lot of learning about beer. They had a good variety on tap. They had two gathering tables, a spacious bar and some outdoor seating. After tasting a couple of the beers on tap Lindy and I decided on a porter. We decided to walk around to get a lay of the crafty land. The first thing I noticed was the floor space was a little cramped. There is a main room which houses the bar , some book cases with bottles and a fridge that has the cold brews and some regional cheeses. Then there is a room that holds more of the good stuff. I was not a fan of their organization system. I felt like I needed the Dewey decimal system to find my favorite brew. I could not figure out exactly how it was organized. I think by brewery. Having lived in Five Points for several years and just moving out to Durham in 2012, Crafty Beer is only disappointing in that I wish it was there 4-5 years ago. Their selection is quite good and they organize everything well. The tap selection also has good variety. However, what I've noticed most of all is the service there. The bartender is always available to help you select something or give you his thoughts on a beer, and even will top you off if the pour gets a little too "heady" at the top. While I've seen some reviews that compare it to Tasty Bev or Bottle Rev, I feel this is a bit of a different format. Both of those focus on more of a bottle shop mindset, with a small bar to try. This, on the other hand, goes for a bar mindset (including tables inside and outside), with racks of beer should you decide to take home what you just drank. Every time I go into one of the others, I feel like I'm just not cool or beer-savvy enough to be in there. Particularly if you're in the neighborhood (i.e. going to get some Lilly's), I recommend stopping by and trying it out. read more

I am surprised by some of the reviews giving crafty 3 stars...I loved it. I was there with a group of girl friends Friday night, and despite being girls' night I had to go cruise the aisles for a while because they have such an INTERESTING selection of beer. I will say that not every brewery is represented, and they have a rather small selection of random beers from some of the craft breweries around, and the pricing structure seems a bit random (some things were very expensive while some were way less than I've seen in other bottle shops). However, if you do a little digging, you can come up with a top-notch 6-pack, 4-pack, or a few bombers for under $20. I'm always appreciative to see a bottle shop organized by brewery, because I am more of a brewery drinker than a "style" drinker. Terrific selection from Dogfishhead, Boulevard, and Evil Twin...they had tons of beers from those breweries, and I'm really regretting not purchasing Evil Twin's "Even More Jesus" while I was there. They have some really unique brews that are up and coming, like some featured Brett ales. They also have a sizeable NC section that especially features local breweries (I picked up Double Barley's Wilma's Wandering Eye-PA, which I haven't even been able to get at the brewery). The atmosphere was super laid back, and the bartenders (esp. the male owner) were super nice and had no hint of hipster beer snobbery. Went here on a whim after I couldn't get into one of the other Five Points joints. The people/bartenders are cool and great conversationalists. The beer selection on tap/in store was a little less expected, but I don't think that was a bad thing. Too often bars become overwhelmed with "XXX hundreds of beers on tap" and can't keep up with the offering which hurts the tasting/learning experience of new brews (if that is what you are in to). The staff here is definitely knowledgeable and all of the beers came as described/recommended. Sure you get some of the Five Points/prep crowd, but you did come to Five Points in the first place... This is the perfect brew stop for a our little family living in Five Points. We went shortly after they opened and were pleasantly surprised at how friendly the owners and staff are. There's nothing pretentious about this place. The owners greeted us immediately and after getting us a few beers to taste they were genuinely interested in knowing more about us. Any business owner who is legitimately interested in getting to know their customers is gold in my book. The atmosphere is always laid back and comfortable. Sit at the bar and drink or take your brew to the lounge area and enjoy free WI-FI. Craft is also kid-friendly. We typically head there with our toddler in tow and nobody gives us a second look about it. We're always welcomed with a smile. This has been a wonderful addition to Five Points! read more

This bottle ship has a great selection for those of us who can't drink gluten filled beer. It is located in on a side street and parking can be a mess. I was happy for the selection of gluten free booze. I will say though if you are going to have a drink and it's in a bottle and not on draft, there is a fee to open it. Give them a try. read more

Ok so they are new and hopefully will get better......Owner does not know a whole heck of alot about beer. They have 8 beers on tap and I asked what the Aviator High Voltage was and he said.." I am not really sure but its not my type of thing"..! HS! not a good first imprssion and kinda set the tone for the night....Place is convenient to all those that live in 5 Points area as we were really lacking a quality draught beer selection besides the usual Bud, Coors selections served at all the other crappy bars in this area. Crafty also has a well stocked refrigerator with single beers to choose from......just dont drink it in store or he they will charge you $2 extra dollars for your selection. ( take it outside than open to avoid extra cost) Draft prices are HIGH! $7 for a Pint of $5 for a 10oz pour.......Owner said this was to keep the younger cheap beer drinkers away..............well it might keep a few seasoned Hop Heads away too as we can always go to Big Boss at the other end of Whitaker Mill. Crafty is currently my favorite local hangout in Raleigh. I first went in alone to pick up beer, and decided to stay for one since the place doubles (triples?) as a craft beer bar, takeaway liquor store (beer and wine only) and wine bar. The beer menu is electronic and changes weekly, and sometimes daily. It's the kind of bar where the bartender recommends beers, gives you a taste, and then eagerly awaits your opinion. Pretty fun. The owner Glenn was there and bought me one when I mentioned I was new to town, and then had time to chat with me for 20 minutes. I also went to a wine tasting there which had a generous pour and was a ton of fun. Definately check it out. read more
